Based on the announced roster, going to predict the starting XI we might see after the camp:

---------------Rimando------------------
Evans-------Omar------Besler-Harrington
-------------Mix--------Beckerman---------
--Zusi-----------Donovan--------------EJ--
--------------Wondo------------------------

Here's what I'd like to see v South Korea...if things go well in camp:

----------------Rimando-----------------
Yedlin--------Omar------Besler----Sinovic
Zusi-----------Mix-------Feilhaber--Magee
------------Donovan------EJ----------------

Subs: Harrington, Goodson, Beckerman, Gil & Wondo

Can't wait for tomorrow's game. Here is my lineup that I hope to see.

Nick
Parkhurst Goodson Besler Yedlin

Beckerman Mix

Donovan Feihaber Zusi

EJ

I don't know if we need to see Evan back there, have to say Cameron is really doing well at Stokes at the present time, so that why I want to see Parkhurst back there because he can be cover for both FB and CD.

As for putting Yedlin on the other side, is to use him in a more attacking player, by cutting in and taking shots at goal. We seem to lack that from the flank play, that is cutting in and taking it to the defenders. Plus I think that Beaz gave and did an admirable job last summer, but I don't think he'll has the tools anymore against teams outside the concacaf.... I do hope he is in the 23 for Brazil for what he did for us last year. Plus with Zusi on that side the interplay would be interesting, more attacking taking into the box than just crossing it into the box.

For me since JK been at the helm, Beckerman and Mix combination at the gold cup last summer, was the best double pivot play that we have, the way the two can interchange their responsibilities was smooth, and thus made for more dangerous attacks over the course of the games.

For me I think Gonzo just makes too many mistakes back there would like to look at other players.

I feel that EJ may be more suited for international play than Magee, don't watch a lot of MLS, but from his stats was last year a one off? He is 29 and 5'9".

I would say tomorrow is a big game for about six or so players. Can't wait.

South America with a pretty good luck at South Korea and their coach Hong Myung Bo. As you can see they have a home based team for this match too (none of their Japan based players included.)

And as the link notes,

Just four players on South Korea's U.S. tour started in the final World Cup qualifier against Iran: Suwon Bluewings goalie Jung Sung-Ryong (who played in 14 qualifiers), Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors defender Kim Ki-Hee, Pohang Steelers midfielder Lee Myeong-Joo and Ulsan Hyundai forward Kim Shin-Wook.

Although to be fair that last World Cup qualifying match was with their previous coach, with Hong Myung Bo now in charge there obviously will be some changes.

Check this out:

Jurgen Klinsmann helicopter pilot!

How Klinsmann commutes to US training camp at the Home Depot Center (or whatever its new corporate name is now.) Can't you see him as the evil protagonist in a James Bond film? :D

Gaffer, my welcome to this message board. Glad to have you join our discussions. An interesting proposed lineup you have given for tomorrow's game. Yedlin at left back. Don't think he has ever played there before so I doubt if he will play there tomorrow. If anybody other than Harrington plays there my guess is it would be Parkhurst.

As for Goodson playing instead of Gonzalez, well that is possible, right now Goodson has a good chance to make the Brazil squad, along with Besler and Gonzalez so it would not be out of the question to have Klinsmann look at different centerback options in a game like this.

Welcome to Gaffer...hope you enjoy the forum, as much as we enjoy your input.

Can't wait for the game tomorrow...will be there with the AO..but, first, tonite is the pre-game party in downtown LA ;)

I wouldn't be surprised to see Parkhurst get the start at RB or, even, LB. I really hope we see Magee start but EJ will probably get the start...as long as Magee gets a solid look, it'll be fine.

Korea got crushed by Mexico on Wed, 4-0...not saying that this is a must-win for the USA & it will be our 1st game, while Korea will be playing their 3rd game together. But would be nice to get a really good result!

That was actually where I was leaning last February. :o I'm glad the last ten months of results have talked me off the ledge. :D

A lot of good stuff there, Gaffer, and welcome! I agree with you about Beckerman/Mix being a good, complementary pair. And while I also agree with your reservations about Omar Gonzalez, I've never been much of a Goodson guy. Out of this roster, at this juncture, Besler-Gonzalez is what I expect and probably for the best. I may not love it, but I'm more OK with tinkering elsewhere. If these are the starting CBs in Brasil, so be it.

I'm with raconteur on the likely LB situation for tomorrow night, but, yeah, DMB starting the Ghana game sounds scary. I was rather hoping Klute would knock Klinsmann's socks off. (Assuming he wears any.)

Magee's an interesting case. An MVP season was certainly an outlier from the rest of his career, but yet it wasn't completely flukey, either. He's a very intelligent player who is quite good in possession. And he can finish. He's not big or fast or super-quick, but he brings some things to the table.

AF10, have a great, safe time and root the boys to victory!

Another day in June, we'll pick eleven for football

JK should have couple of the players take some lessons in flying the helicopter, love the comment about helping to keep one's focus and concentration... a mad scientist type.

With the Yedlin on the left side is because the trend to put attacking wide players on the other side of their natural side, thus they can use their dominate foot to pepper the goal.

United States 2-0 Korea

Chris Wondolowski with both goals, one in each half. A pair of poacher's goals. A good skill set to have. Steve Goff at the Washington Post with what I think is a pretty good analysis of the game and the players who made an impression.

His comments on Wondlowski are I think right on target, his paoching ability keeps him in contention for a roster slot.

Eddie Johnson had a slight injury which is why Wondo started instead while Mike Magee sadly did not play because of food poisoning. A lost opportunity for the current MLS MVP.

The US starting team and subs:

Rimando; Evans (Yedlin 74th), Gonzalez, Besler (Goodson 62nd), Parkhurst; Beckerman, Diskerud (Feilhaber 62nd); Zusi (Alexander 81st), Donovan, Davis (Gil 75th); Wondolowski (Johnson 62nd).

I thought that was better than most first friendlies of the year the US has played in January/February. Korea's home based team was not great competition (they got crushed 4-0 by Mexico last Wednesday) but they work hard and gave the US a pretty good test. Like Yogi I thought Steve Goff's analysis of the players was pretty good.

Evans was the one regular/semi-regular who I thought was pretty weak in this game but he ahs shown his worth in other matches. Parkhurst did play on the left and was OK there, not really somewhere you'd like to see him playing in Brazil but his versatility is helpful.

I thought Zusi was the one US player who looked consistently dangerous when on the ball. His development is going to push Klinsmann into a difficult decision but maybe he, Donovan and Dempsey can all play behind a central striker like Altidore?

Wondolowski is a predator and a guy like that is useful on a tournament roster. As Goff notes, Wondolowski's play gives JK another dilemma in competition with Gomez and Boyd for the likely last forward spot on the team.
