From memory (so check on this), but it is on NBC Sports at 230pm EST. Wonder why it is not on ESPN?

ESPN is showing the far more important, and interesting, World Cup playoff between Sweden and Portugal. Check the TV Coverage thread in the General Discussion section for a listing of today's games on TV.

Meh. If the US hadn't been wrongly denied a goal in the 17th minute, perhaps it would have been a different game. Austria got a well-earned goal 15 minutes later. Both teams had maybe two chances later on, including one each in stoppage time, but that's about all the game had to offer.

I don't think any US player "on the cusp" did anything to improve their chances. Not sure anyone, with the possible exception of Brooks in the first half, did anything to hurt their chances either. If I had to pick a bright spot for the US, it'd probably be Cameron's play at right back.

Went to a sports bar in Studio City, CA to watch the game & was not overly impressed with the USMNT. If anything, it proves how much Donovan & Dempsey mean to the team IMO. Yes, Bradley is the engine that drives the team but Donovan & Dempsey bring so much offensive skill & creativity...that just can't be replaced.

The good thing about today was meeting hobbes...though, we didn't get "officially" introduced :P ...and finding out he's an LA Kings fan, like me.

Hope you enjoyed the win v TB and hope we win v NJ on Thursday...have a safe trip back to Vancouver on Friday & see you on the forum here ;)

Ok, two blah, ho-hum games to close out the year, although this one was a bit more inspired than the one the other day.

Maybe these guys are all simply tired from club play, and can't help but let down for meaningless friendlies, but some of these dudes should have been going 110% no matter what, trying to earn a roster spot.

As Shel mentioned, none really stood out, with one exception. But I wouldn't say it was as much Brooks as Johannssen, though Brooks was steady and confident on D. That kid (Jo) has the potential to be a special player for the US and even though we only saw flashes, it was enough to see he could be an elite player if he continues to get better.

Also thought a couple of people tended to play themselves out of the roster picture. If JK has not seen enough of Brek Shea, then he needs a new pair of eyeballs. Boyd was mostly invisible, Diskerud spotty as usual, Lichaj disappointing and Bedoya promising.

(edit:wasn't Brooks mostly responsible for the Austrian goal?)

Finally, it would not be a fair game report, however brief, if I didn't comment on how the officials pretty much robbed a tie, if not a win, from the US on two non-calls.
The US first goal, not called, cried out for goal line technology to prevent miscarriages of justice like this, but they should not have needed it to see that ball was well over the line in the keepers hands.
Later, an obviously controlling hand ball blunted another US great chance, if not likely goal, and that call should be a PK call 100% of the time. Just reportin' the facts, men. Officials can and do negatively influence results and they certainly did last night. Thank goodness it was only a friendly. :(

It was nice meeting you too AF10. Sorry we didn't get more of a chance to talk. I should have introduced myself properly too. Sorry about that.

I'm a Caps supporter, but I'm actually not from Vancouver. I'm from Saskatchewan.:)

I had a great time at the Kings game, but Staples confiscated my Sask flag (wanted to show some love for Regehr, Stoll, King & Vey), but other than that it was everything I could have hoped for.

I have nothing of substance to add since I watched the UEFA matches, but I think this is an ideal time to have a couple of middling performances. Make some decisions now and start building in the spring.

cheers,
hobbes

Great day yesterday flipping around the satellite watching the final days of WCQ. The wife had the best insight of the day, asking, "When is Canada going to hire Bradley to take over their National team?" hobbes, you interested?

The Yanks played decently, but were not decisive in the Final Third.Jones is great with his attitude. I am sure he knew all the Austrians and he did not put up with any crap.

Shea really needs to become a true professional. He is getting chances and opportunities many others do not because he has potential. I suspect we are seeing on the pitch what his club teams see every day in training. If he fails to make the WC squad, he has no one to blame. Without making the WC roster, his career may begin to fade. He really must make an impact with his club team in the next six months.

I was more impressed with Austria than I was with Scotland.

Pretty fantastic year for the National team even though it ended on a pair of snoozers.
