Good points, particularly Shel's and alabastergremlin's about national team managers. As Tony noted on the CONCACAF board, the US has had 3 managers in 13 years while Mexico has had four this year. And the three we have had have all been rock solid contributors to the program. But things are never quite as bad as they seem in down times nor as wonderful as it might seem in peak times. It is absolutely terrific to have run through the HEX with our best ever showing in qualifying, but it will be forgotten pretty quickly if we don't advance out of group in Brasil. And Mexico will be back with a vengeance at some point, maybe in Brasil if they make it, they simply have too much talent to stay down for a long period. But it is crystal clear that to obtain positive consistency in a national team program, you need far sighted, knowledgable, steady consistency in its management. The US has certainly been blessed with that. |
