The USSF does not plan to finalize the second of two proposed friendlies in Europe in November until the UEFA World Cup qualifiers are settled next month. A Nov. 15 match against Scotland in Glasgow was announced last week. The second game would come four days later against Austria in Vienna. However, the Austrians remain in the hunt for Group C’s playoff berth in November — three points behind Sweden with two matchdays remaining. They will visit the Swedes on Oct. 11, and with a victory, would extend the race to Oct. 15, when Austria visits the last-place Faroe Islands and Sweden hosts first-place Germany. Chances are, Austria will not win in Sweden, clearing the date with the United States. However, until the group is settled, an announcement will have to wait. Update on 2nd US match in November. |

Anyone heading to this one? I got "permission" to go from the domestic boss, but I cannot find a cheap flight in any way, shape or form. I would love to be there for the atmosphere alone, but it is only a friendly....may be a snoozer. |

FWIW, my advice is save your money and save it for a trip to Brazil in June! Besides wouldn't you'd rather go to Rio in June than Glasgow in November?

Actually, doubt I will go to the WC. Little interest in getting mugged in Brazil. Never been to South America, hower...so you never know. I actually like Scotland alot, but I can't seemed to wiggle out a cheap flight. I will try again later this week, but it looks like I will be watching it on TV. The more you go to these matches, the more you realize that it is the actually qualifiers and matches with something on the line that are the best in the stadium. Still, I am sure I would have a dang great time with some fairly awesome brews in Scotland anytime of the year. I wanna get a hundred caps before I kick the bucket...so I keep pushing on. |

Going to see Canada in Scotland is still one of the best matches I've ever been to. I hope you can make it. I will be in Los Angeles when this match is played. Anyone have any recommendations on places to watch/is anyone going to gather to watch? I'm not positive I'm going to watch it, but it could be fun. cheers, hobbes |

That is my Los Angeles soccer viewing locale and I will be there for that match and all the playoff games around the globe. Depending on your luck you could also run into enganche, Sergio, pique and americafutbol10 too. |

My schedule is still taking shape and I wasn't really thinking about the fact that this was the World Cup playoff date (not really sure why I didn't think about that). So yeah I think it will be fun to go watch some of the matches. Thanks for the pub suggestion. cheers, hobbes |

Wish I could join you guys there but the Fox & Hounds is a good place to watch games, especially when multiple matches are going on simultaneously. Bunch of characters there too! Going to be curious to see if Klinsmann sticks to the usual starters against Scotland or tries, as he often has been required to do in qualifying, use multiple players who typically would be considered second choice. I guess that raises the question though, are they really 2nd choice if they receive so much playing time? |

Here is the roster JK has called up, according to US Soccer: GOALKEEPERS (3) : Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Tim Howard (Everton), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire) DEFENDERS (7) : DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Eric Lichaj (Nottingham Forest), Michael Orozco (Puebla) MIDFIELDERS (7) : Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley (Roma), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Jermaine Jones (Schalke), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Brek Shea (Stoke City) FORWARDS (6) : Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders FC), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes) No Castillo, Donovan, Goodson or Guzan...because of injuries. Like that Eric Lichaj & John Brooks got called in but not so sure about Wondo. -----------------Howard------------------- Evans-----Omar-------Brooks-------DMB -----------Bradley----Jones--------------- --Bedoya-----Dempsey-----F. Johnson-- --------------Altidore---------------------- Subs: Lichaj, Cameron, Kljestan, Shea, Johannsson & Boyd. |

Happy to see Lichaj brought back in, actually for the first time under Klinsmann. Still no Timothy Chandler who starts for Nurnberg. Me thinks there is something more to his non selection. A pretty competitive team, note no player still active in the MLS playoffs was selected, making the 2 week break in the playoffs even more curiouser. |

Yes there has to be something to Klinsmann not selecting Chandler anymore. That is too bad as I think he should be the US' starting right back now. I do like that Lichaj is getting a look though, he looked promising while Bob Bradley was the coach and receives regular playing time at Nottingham Forest. |

Certainly agree with both of you about Chandler's omission. JK is all about 'commitment' and Chandler's ambivalence about air travel (or whatever) seems to have rubbed Klinsmann the wrong way to the extent that a guy who would appear to be a strong candidate to start (at least based on CV) can't even get a call-up for a friendly in Europe. The other name (besides Lichaj) that jumps out is Shea. He has been someone JK has been high on, but gee, it's been over a year since he's played regularly anywhere, right? I both confess that he's far from my favorite Nat (an athletic freak but not particularly skilled at football) while acknowledging that he brings speed/width, two items the US pool does not have in abundance. So I'm OK with including him for a friendly, but unless he can get on the field at Stoke (or wherever) I have a hard time seeing him make the final 23 for Brasil. |

The Chandler situation puzzles me. Is it a reluctance to fly? Does he feel more German than American? Did he do something to piss off JK -- obviously not responding to call-ups but something else? Whatever, he's passing up a golden opportunity to start in a World Cup. If he thinks he can suddenly make nice next spring, I'm not sure JK is the kind of coach who is going to have open arms at that point. |
