I am thinking we will see something like this as the US lineup:

Howard-Evans, Cameron, Besler, Beasley- Beckerman, Jones- Zusi, Donovan, E. Johnson-Altidore

With Johansson, Bedoya, Kljestan and Diskerud in contention to be 3 of the subs used.

Yet on second thought maybe Klinsmann will use this game to give players like Diskerud, Kljestan, Johansson and Boyd their chance to show what they can do in a US shirt?

Totally agree with your lineup & sub choices, Rufus T.

If nothing else, should be very interesting to see what kind of chemistry this team shows.

I just read Howard was named captain in Dempsey's absence so that is a damn good indication he will be starting on Friday.

Although I would like to see either Guzan or Rimando get a chance to play in Panama. They each deserve the chance.

Eddie Johnson is out with an injury and will miss both games. Late call ins after playing last night in MLS- Wondolowski (will they spell his name right on his shirt, this time?), Brad Davis and Clarence Goodson. Each played last night in key league matches and now are freed up. It is doubtful with their late arrival though that any of the three will start tomorrow.

But with E. Johnson out, who plays on the left? Other than that doubt I do think Rufus' speculated lineup could be what we see.

This writer predicts it will be Bedoya coming in for the injured Eddie Johnson but there also is the possibility that Aron Johannsson could get his first significant minutes with the US.

Jamaica have called in for the first time likely MLS rookie of the year Deshorn Brown of Colorado.

I agree with Rufus T....would've loved to see Guzan get a start, especially in the USA, to show what he can do! I love Howard & still have faith in him but his game has slipped a bit & now IMO would be a great time to give Guzan a WCQ.

DAMN...now, we lose EJ to injury? WTH is going on? <_<

-------------------Howard------------------
Evans----Cameron-----Besler-------DMB
-----------Beckerman---Jones------------
Zusi--------------Landon----------Bedoya
---------------Altidore----------------------

Subs: Any trio of Johannsson, Goodson, Kljestan, Davis, Orozco or Wondo.

Starting Bedoya makes as much sense as anything, but, if that's the case, don't be surprised if he starts on the right and Zusi moves over to the left. He sometimes plays on the left for SKC. Also, I'd think it's a possibility that Castillo starts on the left.

That sounds reasonable shel, Bedoya has worked his way into the US team and is doing fairly well with Nantes in France. Actually he has moved ahead of Joe Corona, who was not picked for these two matches, in Klinsmann's pecking order. And as shel writes, Zusi is the type of player who can operate on either wing. But do not be surprised to see Brad Davis available off the bench to sub in for either Bedoya or Zusi.

The US will have to be careful of Jamaica's speed.

A big yawn for 75 minutes. Neither team, but particularly the US, showed much of anything. JK's subs made a huge difference for the US in the second half.

A sellout and lively crowd, but actually below what SKC would draw for an MLS game because there was almost no standing room crowd.

I had the chance to get together with johnbuildr, his wife and oldest son at their RV before the game. That was the highlight of the day, only matched by Zusi's goal. Thanks, John.

I was mostly watching Argentina's game against Peru but kept an eye on the US match. What was up with Donovan and getting pulled off at halftime? He deserved to be subbed out as he did nothing while on the field. Surprising coming from him, and not what the US needed while missing Bradley, Dempsey and both Johnsons. But credit his sub Zusi for helping lift the US out of the doldrums.

I had fun, for sure, got to meet John and his family as well (pic of me and John below) see Sporting Park, got a free commemorative scarf at the gate, watched my beloved Nats live...but that first 70 minutes was dire. Donovan was so poor, the sub didn't bother me that much, but then he had company: a litany of poor first-touches, ill-advised passes, being easily dispossessed, combined with a general lack of energy seemed to afflict most of the team in the first half. Even Johannson, though not combining all that well with Altidore, got himself in some good positions only to send the shot/final ball off target. It was ugly. (Though the back line was good. I do like the Cameron-Beseler pairing a *lot*.)

As noted, once again Klinsmann rolled three sevens with his subs, which saved the day. I hope on Tuesday he gives them (or others) starts. Despite the sell-out, there were a few hundred empty seats it looked like, and the crowd didn't always have tons to cheer about, but a fine atmosphere, I thought. Anyway, as joked with John, after ten [?] years of talking soccer, proof I actually exist in three-dimensional form! [On the internet, no-one knows you're a dog.] It was great meeting you, John!

Ah, I am jealous. Not because I missed the game, but because I missed the tailgate!

Sounds like John's tailgate was the place to be. Sorry I missed the game...and the tailgate. So which one in the picture is Roosevelt and which one John?

As for the game, I am in agreement with the other commentators here, a sloppy 70 minutes enlived by the substitutions of Zusi, Castillo and Kljestan. Wow, who would have thought Castillo and Kljestan would have been two of the US' sparks?

Although Altidore scored I am thinking his move to Sunderland may prove to be a mistake, he simply does not look as sharp as he did in May & June.

Besides Altidore, disappointing games in my eyes from Donovan, Beasley and Johannsson for me.

I did like how Evans played at right back and thought Cameron-Besler looked pretty comfortable playing together, then again this was Jamaica, the weakest team in the Hexagonal.

Kinda of natural to have a little bit of a letdown after assuring qualifying, I think that partly explains the US' lackluster play. But missing Bradley, Dempsey, both Fabian and Eddie Johnson and having a subpar game from Donovan also contributed.

I do think Klinsmann got a positive response from both Cameron at centerback and Evans at right back. And as Yogi wrote, Castillo and Kljestan helped keep themselves in the roster picture with their play off the bench. I bet both start versus Panama.

I think in Kljestan's case, anyway, at least part of his success last night was due to Klinsmann's decision to deploy him centrally, rather than stick him out wide. He's a good player, but he's no winger.

As far as Yogi's question, I'm the Ludovic Giuly sized one. :D
