Well we do not yet know the severity of the hamstring injury yet so it is still possible Altidore could be able to play by next Friday in Costa Rica or at least by Sept 10 in Columbus. But if he cannot play then as af10 says the responsibility will fall on Eddie Johnson and Aron Johannsson. I really have not yet seen Johannsson so will reserve judgment on him but he is off to a good start with AZ in Holland. As for Johnson, he can do all right up top and adds a different dimension with his speed and mobility. Plus you have to think he and Dempsey are starting to develop an onfield understanding from playing together at Seattle.

If Altidore cannot play in these qualifiers, maybe Juan Agudelo should be considered to replace him? Agudelo after a few down seasons is now, as a 20 year old starting to play much better and live up to the potential he showed just 2 years ago.

I caved in and booked a flight. Now I have to get a match ticket. Shouldn't be a problem...

I hope you turn up at the right stadium Vince! ;)

Enjoy the game and we all look forward to reading your account of your visit.

Klinsmann, like every national team coach around the world, of course will be anxiously awaiting this weekend's matches and hoping nobody else besides Altidore picks up an injury. But like the Gold Cup showed, the US' depth is improving. If Altidore cannot play then I think the US would be adequately covered at forward with E.Johnson and Johannsson. Considering this is an away match, a counter attacking approach will likely be used and that is where both Johnson and Johannsson, with their speed, could be effective. Maybe even more so than Altidore. Naturally Jozy would be missed with his scoring ability and strength both on the ball and in the air but Johnson and Johannsson canI think each step in and do well, especially on the counter.

Guess this means that Cameron will start at RB v CR and Mexico! Hoping for the best regarding Jozy.

With Evans and, possibly, Altidore out for the WCQ, here's what I'm guessing we could go with:

-----------------------Howard-----------------
Cameron------Omar-------Besler---Beasley
--Donovan---Bradley---Mix----F. Johnson--
--------------Dempsey-------EJ---------------

Subs: Orozco, Zusi & Johannsson.

I really wouldn't worry about Cameron at RB, since that's where he plays for Stoke City anyway. And putting Dempsey & EJ together up top could work well IMO :)

Jermaine Jones will start for the US af10. We all know how much Klinsmann values him. Jones will be paired alongside Bradley in midfield.

Costa Rica's roster for the next two matches:

Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas (Levante; Spain), Patrick Pemberton (Alajuelense).

Defenders: Michael Umana (Saprissa), Junior Diaz (Mainz; Germany), Geancarlos Gonzalez (Valerenga; Norway), Bryan Oviedo (Everton; England), Jhonny Acosta (Alajuelense), Cristian Gamboa (Rosenborg; Norway), Carlos Johnson (Cartagines), Oscar Duarte (Club Brugge; Belgium).

Midfielders: Celso Borges (AIK; Sweden), Michael Barrantes (Aalesund; Norway), Christian Bolanos (Copenhagen; Denmark), Jose Miguel Cubero (Herediano), Yeltsin Tejada (Saprissa), Esteban Granados (Herediano), Mauricio Castillo (Saprissa), Diego Calvo (Valerenga; Norway).

Forwards: Alvaro Saborio (Real Salt Lake; MLS), Bryan Ruiz (Fulham; England), Randall Brenes (Cartagines), Joel Campbell (Olympiakos; Greece), Victor Nunez (Herediano), Yendrick Ruiz (Herediano).

I know, autogol...just wishful thinking! Seems like JK will go with Jones, even if he costs us a WCQ, unfortunately!

Well, things were simply going far too well on the injury front, now weren't they? :(

Ham string injuries can run the chart from minor and short lived to nagging and endless, so only time will tell.....but of all players, I hate to lose our arguably most imposing and threatening player of the last several matches!

Good job Vince, have a ball and be careful! We will all be awaiting for your reports!

That is great news, but they need to watch him closely and am sure they will. Hammies are easy to re-pull once tweaked.

Very true John but I am sure the trainers will be watching him closely. So Johnson and Johannsson (a very alliterative pairing) should still play an important role in the coming week.

I am curious to see what role Zusi will play now that Donovan is back and Klinsmann confirms he views Fabian Johnson more as a left winger than left back.

US can qualify Friday?

It is disputed in the comments but I have a 5 year old crawling on me and can't take the time to figure it up myself.

The USMNT must win, Mexico draw with Honduras & Panama draw/lose to Jamaica...just don't see it all happening.

To be honest, I'm not 110% confident that we will win in San Jose...if we tie, I'd be ESTASTIC! Hope the boys make me eat my words...really do.
