Let's get this discussion started. Zusi will be back, Jones' status is still uncertain but Beasley will be suspended. shelsoccer made some lineup suggestions for this match in the US-Panama discussion and I agree with what he offered, move Fabian J back to left back, switch Eddie J from right to left midfield and use Zusi on the right side of midfield. I assume he would make no additional changes to the team which played versus Panama. That would mean keeping Cameron at defensive midfield in place of Jones. After being concussed I would not rush Jones back, especially with how well Cameron played in midfield. |

Yes I can see those lineup moves shelsoccer and raconteur proposed. I am a little concerned about Brad Evans trying to defend against Honduras' speed on the wings. Panama made it a point to attack him the other day, Honduras will likely do the same. But there are not any real alternatives to him unless Cameron is moved back to the right. After the way he played in midfield on Tuesday I want to see more of Cameron in the US midfield. |

Exactly Yogi and as I mentioned in the Panama game thread, Evans is just a stop gap until Cherundolo and Chandler return. But give Cameron the time in midfield where he can actually help the US down the road rather than using him as a stop gap at right back. Zusi will return and should be able to provide some defensive cover for Evans on the flank as should Cameron from midfield. Too bad Beasley will miss this game as Honduras is just the right matchup for him but like others Fabian Johnson seems like the natural replacement for him. But does Eddie Johnson or Brad Davis then come in at left midfield? Davis is better on the ball and at crossing, Johnson quicker and better going at defenses. I'd pick Johnson with Davis as an option off the bench. |

Based on who's available & suspended, here's my starters: ---------------------Howard------------------- Evans--------Omar------Besler--F. Johnson --------------Cameron-----Bradley---------- --Zusi-------------Dempsey----E. Johnson-- ------------------Altidore---------------------- Subs: Parkhurst, Corona & Boyd Agree with everyone...bit concerned about Evans' ability to deal with Honduras attack on the left flank but hoping the week between Panama & Honduras will allow him to recover, so fatigue is not a major issue! Having Zusi back is huge & think EJ has "earned" a shot at LM...plus, think he's a better option than Davis! Also, believe that Fabian Johnson can hold down the LB spot well...perhaps, even a bit better than Beasley (though, love the job DMB has done)! Honduras is similar to Panama in overall speed, though better technically IMO & should pose a stiffer test but believe we'll be ready & the atmosphere, while not what Seattle was, should be pretty great in its own right! |

<<,.....Also, believe that Fabian Johnson can hold down the LB spot well...perhaps, even a bit better than Beasley (though, love the job DMB has done)!....>> Concur here with af10. FJ may be the better answer at left back than DMB in the long run. That's not how JK sees it now, but it wouldn't surprise me if it comes to pass. That's why I will be very interested in his play at that position against a very good los Catrachos team on the wing attack. |

Some news about Honduras, Honduran national team shorthanded heading into USMNT qualifier, Standouts Oscar Boniek Garcia and Maynor Figueroa are injured, stalwart centerback Victor Bernardez and starting midfielder Luis Garrido are suspended, and forward Jerry Bengtson, who scored the game-winning goal against the U.S. last February, has reportedly left the Honduran camp out of frustration with not being used in the team’s win vs. Jamaica. Throw in apparent injuries to Osman Chavez and Jerry Palacios, and you have a Honduran camp in rough shape heading to Salt Lake City for Tuesday’s showdown vs. the United States. In fact, only 15 players were available to train when the Honduran team convened for a training camp in San Jose, California on Thursday. Those are some significant absences for Honduras. They have called Vancouver's centerback Jonny Leveron to help cover the absences of Bernardez and Figueroa in central defense. But Bengston's petulant response to being bench likely means he won't be back anytime soon with the national team, at least not while Luis Suarez is coaching the team. |

http://www.ussoccer.com/news/mens-national...mnt-roster.aspx Wonder if this opens the door for Bradley-Beckerman at DM & Cameron at RB? Not sure which of the two "evils" I'm more concerned with...Evans at RB or Beckerman at DM? Leaning toward Beckerman at DM...concerning me more <_< |

I think Beckerman was called in as a stop gap in case needed. I would not expect him to start, he has not trained with this team for the past 3 weeks like the others. But he is a veteran and plays locally in Salt Lake. I expect it will be Cameron remaining in midfield, where he deserves more time to show the Panama game was not a fluke, and that Evans will be at right back. |

As this article notes, another option tomorrow is to keep Fabian Johnson at left midfield and play Edgar Castillo. But if I were to guess I'd go with what others have offered here, move F. Johnson back to defense and use Eddie Johnson as a left wing. |

Yes Rufus, Castillo at left back is another option but I think Klinsmann will go with Fabian Johnson at left back and move Eddie Johnson to left midfield. That gives the team good attacking options. Plus Castillo has not exactly set the world on fire when playing for the US this last few weeks. Apparently Jermaine Jones has been given the all clear to play tonight. Raises additional options for Klinsmann. We all know the coach likes having jones on the field, and who is to argue with Jones overall success in midfield even with his tendency to pick up cards, but the way Cameron played versus Panama I would keep him at midfield. The problem of course is that option leaves Evans as the right back going against the quickness of Honduras but I think that is a risk worth taking in order to give Cameron the opportunity in midfield his play deserves. The US cannot underestimate Honduras, even with their absences, this remains a dangerous team and one with a pretty good record against the US. |

Grant Wahl reports the US starting lineup as: Howard; Evans, González, Besler, F. Johnson; Bradley, Jones; Zusi, Dempsey, E. Johnson; Altidore. So Jones comes back and Cameron sits. |

Tough break for Cameron who played so impressively against Panama but Klinsmann clearly sees Jones and Bradley as his starting central midfielders. Of all the US opponents in CONCACAF the one I most enjoy watching is Honduras, I just like the way they usually play. So needless to say I am looking forward to this game at Riot Into Stadium as I recall garbaggio hilariously referring to the stadium some time ago. |

Halftime score: 0-0 Honduras defending well, closing the US down and looking to counter. The US has been its best when Fabian Johnson attacks down the left. But the defense has been giving the ball away. Overall a somewhat sloppy game. Ex Sporting KC midfielder Roger Espinoza looks to me like the best player on the field. If the US scores in this game I am thinking it will come from a set piece. |

Final score: 1-0 United States It was not easy but a deserved win for the US with a Jozy Altidore goal midway through the half. Zusi worked it out wide to Fabian Johnson who cut it back for Altidore to finish as the US best 3 players on the night combined on the goal. And I was wrong it did not come from a set piece play but rather a nice buildup. Honduras were tough to break down but you could see the US started to impose themselves on the game leading to the goal. The defense gave a few balls away in the first half but settled down in the 2nd. Without Bengston there was not much punch to Honduras' attack but they are not a bad team, my guess is they become the 4th place team and go into the playoff against New Zealand. A wonderful June for the US, 3 wins out of 3 in qualifying as the US practically assures a top three finish in qualifying. The team is not there yet but is coming together. I'd like to see Chandler and/or Cherundolo play with this team and then is there room for Donovan? I suppose so if he finds his form at LA but right now Eddie Johnson and Graham Zusi are each doing a pretty good job as the wide midfielders/attackers. |
