I will agree with the thought of there being no need to rush Jones back, give Cameron more time to develop at the position internationally. Evans is at best just a stap gap measure while Cherundolo and Chandler are out. The Gold Cup should give us another option or two (Beltran and Beitashour?) as well. I like the Besler-Gonzalez pairing and like that each are getting the chance to develop that understanding in these qualifiers. That is how a good partnership is formed. Gonzalez lapses in concentration are part of his learning curve but you do see the progress he is making. |

Getting the straight three points in these matches allows us to keep creating depth. We need a full 23 man contingent for international tournaments. I am still on the fence as to whether the team is winning because of Klinsmann or in spite of him. I do not sense any great cohesion. Worry about Dempsey? Seven goals in last seven US international games? OK, so he is on a quiet two game piece here.... He is money. We need more speed. Panama, as others have pointed out, are the success story of CONCACAF for the last decade. Unfortunately, they just have no depth. Like Jamaica, however, they can really wreck someone's WC dreams in the games remaining. It will be interesting. |

As the Panamanian fan her I agree with Vince, the canaleros lack depth. Missing Blas Prez, a focal point of the attack really hurt the team but other than some wing work by Quintero, Panama's midfield play was pretty weak. The team are well organized and not easy to break down but the US, led by Altidore, Fabian Johnson, Dempsey, Eddie Johnson, Bradley and Cameron were able to create openings. That was impressive because I do not think Panama will concede 2 goals in many games. I liked how the US moved the ball with their possession game and also how they pressured Panama. Playing Belgium and Germany helped this team come together. Now they will face Honduras which probably will be their toughest qualifying game this month. I am intrigued by how the US will respond in that game and how the team will be reorganized with Beasley missing but Zusi coming back. |
