First and foremost...AMAZING JOB BY THE CROWD AND THE OUTLAWS. That was a great atmosphere and people outside of soccer took notice. It didn't hurt that game three of the NBA finals was a bore. Hard to complain about the game tonight... I won't complain. We took the lead in the Hex and that is a long way from where a lot of feared we would be just a few LONG months ago. Some ESPN stat guy said this gives us a 98.8 percent chance of being in Brazil. Mathematically, does a win next week lock it? Maybe at least the playoff? |

Excellent crowd, the worries about the field turned out to be without reason and the US played a pretty good game. Altidore, Eddie Johnson and Cameron were the three most impressive performers but the US will return to Seattle, that stadium was rocking like no US stadium I have ever seen before. |

A 2-0 win over Panama, goals by Altidore and Eddie Johnson. The field did not seem to be problematic at all. The US turned in its best performance in this round of qualifying in my opinion. Great work by Altidore, he now has 3 goals in as many games and is starting to become the striker many of us hoped he'd become. Eddie Johnspn, who started in place of Zusi, scored the 2nd, with a classy finish. First of all Geoff Cameron fed him a perfect ball, Johnson did well to control the ball then calmly finished to put the result beyond doubt. Cameron looked like a natural at defensive midfield (is there a position he cannot play?), Bradley was his usual self, but this time the entire defensive backline played a strong game and led to the US shutout. I know we like to analyze and find faults at time but I did not see any in this win. As gremlin wrote, this US team, now in first place, are exceeding expectations and are looking very good right now in their quest to qualify for Brazil. |

Not sure, agremlin, but last time in the HEX it worked out that it took 16 points to assure a team would at least make the playoff. with 5 games left, that would take two more wins or a win and three ties, etc., the way it looks. It ain't over yet. Would have been terrific if Beasley had scored on the mad, screaming run right into the box wouldn't it? When have we ever seen more offensive creativity from more different players on a US team? Was I seeing a different player or wasn't Bradley often on the ball in the central defense area, playing out of the back line? When you can't see the numbers, one bald head looks like another... The crowd showed us what a true home game atmosphere should be like. Pretty sweet. It's good in Columbus, but with these numbers of fans present, it was great. Nice to be leading the HEX. Mexico certainly looked clueless in the first game, but i am sure they will figure it out in time to be their usual troublesome selves for the US. |

Impressive on the field and in the stands. Superb support in Seattle which is why the USSF is willing to compromise on the field. Although to be honest it did not seem to be a factor last night. As for the game, Altidore's goal was the result of wonderful buildup, Bradley cutting through the middle, opening up play to Fabian Johnson out wide, Dempsey clearing space for everybody by dragging defenders , Johnson's perfectly placed low cross to the far post then Altidore's finish. Textbook buildup and finish! Then goal two with Cameron's pass finding Eddie Johnson cutting past the defense, his excellent control and fine finish. A world class goal. This was the best I have seen the US play in the Hexagonal, Zusi has been good but I liked what Eddie Johnson brought in supporting Altidore in attack, Dempsey was active, Fabian Johnson gives the US a threat down the left, Bradley is unquestionably the centerpiece of the team in midfield, Cameron was surprisingly good in defensive midfield, the central defenders snuffed out any Panamanian attack, Evans did his job quietly but efficiently, Beasley almost scored an incredible goal and is growing as a left back although he picked up a suspension for next week's game while Howard was not seriously tested by the Blas Perez less Panama attack. Panama can be an awkward opponent, a physical, fast and well drilled team but they did not have the attacking prowess to trouble the US. But credit Klinsmann for getting this team playing some pretty good soccer, solid defensively and with options now in midfield and attack. An excellent win. There is still a long road to go, we are only at the halfway point now but the team are progressing nicely. |

Yes, a comprehensive win, the offense looked a lot more fluid, there is growong understanding between Dempsey and Altidore, between OG and Besler, and yeah, Bradley is great. I mentioned in the Jamaica postgame thread how I was pleased to see Cameron put in a position to succeed, and I think it showed. The other thing I like about that is that it gives a positive answer to the question, 'Who do you trust to start next to Bradley if Jones is unavailable?' But honestly, and no offense to Panama, that's the kind of WCQ home qualifying effort and result I expect against a Panama. So while I agree with John, qualifying is not assured, things are really looking much improved at the moment. And a wonderful atmosphere, indeed. I'd be forsaking my role as eternal pessimist if I couldn't come up with least a couple of quibbles and one is of more mild concern, namely that Omar Gonzalez has (at least) one major concentration lapse per game, and he needs to work on that. But I''m sure he will. The other, scratched record, apologies, Evans has played his heart out, truly, but he's barely hanging on against 2nd-tier opponents. I don't think he could be more than an emergency RB at the WC level. But obviously I'm very pleased, a much happier camper than I have been. One final note, DMB's late yellow means he'll miss Honduras. Altidore, Besler, Bradley, Davis, Dempsey, F Johnson and Geoff Cameron are carrying yellows. Something to factor in as the team moves forward. |

Liked the Cameron-Bradley pairing at DM & thought they had A LOT to do with our best overall defensive performance in quite some time!! Three goals in three straight games? No need for more MIA posters regarding Jozy Altidore...and what a great goal by EJ Nice to see the USMNT dominate a WCQ like they did last night...doesn't happen enough...hope it continues v Honduras next week. Sucks that we won't have Beasley available (yellow card suspension) but, maybe, this opens the door for Corona or Holden! Funny how life is...not too long ago, I had given up on Altidore, EJ, and, even, Bradley! Now, they are MAJOR contributors to the team!! GREAT win, boys...and Seattle was a fantastic host! SOOO jealous that I couldn't be there & hope USSF schedules another WCQ there in the near future

Don't forget Cameron's pass that setup the goal. Also it was a great run by EJ. Man I really hope fulham go down two divisions for their treatment of EJ. The guy has the skills, but IMHO fulcrap didn't bring EJ up the correct way & in the process hurt the development of EJ. Good move of his to come back to the MLS. |

One thing to add: this was not a bad effort by the Canaleros. They were just outplayed. It appears that JK has found Cameron's best position. Roosevelt makes a very good point about Gonzalez's concentration lapses. And Evans had enough trouble to make it clear that he's still a backup over there. The next time there's a qualie in Seattle, I hope I can go. That sounded like a lot of fun. |

IMHO Panama has been the most improved nation for the FC in the past 10 years. I was worried before the match & Panama has beaten The Yanks in recent memories. I believe in the last Copa de Oro. Then don't forget they played El Tri to a draw last Friday. I think it will be a dog fight between Panama & Los Catrachos for that 4 spot. |

I'm with Roos and Winslow about Evans and Gonzalez. I'm not overly worried about Omar. He has plenty of room for growth. Evans, as dogged as he was last night, just isn't up to snuff at the top level. We'll need Cherundolo or Chandler. I also think Dempsey has been pretty quiet the last two games. I think that's due to the attention the opposition has put on him. With Altidore finally producing, I think Dempsey could explode vs. Honduras. I also assume that F. Johnson will slide back to left back vs. Honduras, and we'll see E. Johnson on the left and Zusi on the right next week. My nitpicking aside, a very good performance from the US last night. We're definitely in control of the Hex, particularly with Mexico looking unexpectedly clueless. |

Like everybody else I was impressed with the US' overall play even if beating Panama at home was expected. Altidore, the two Johnsons, Bradley, Beasley, Besler and Cameron were the ones who really caught the eye. Gonzalez may still have an occasional lapse in concentration but he and Besler are I think developing a pretty decent understanding together. As for Cameron, well we may have pre match questioned using him in midfield but lets not forget where he started playing for Houston, it was in midfield! So the position is not unfamiliar to him. Actually I really liked how he played in midfield, he protected the backline well, broke up plays and initiated attacks pretty well. It was Cameron passing to Bradley which started the sequence leading to the first goal and then we all saw his defense opening pass to Eddie Johnson for goal #2. I know Jones is the regular there but I find it hard to top what Cameron did last night. |

I had forgotten about that about Cameron (where is Merlin our resident Houston fan to remind us of those things?) He was nearly flawless in midfield the other night, playing exactly the way I like to see it done at defensive midfield. Plus his play freed Bradley up to me more adventurous going forward. I'd like to see this Bradley-Cameron tandem get more playing time together. If Jones was concussed then do not rush him back. Let him take the rest of the summer off. Cameron not only can handle the position but deserves the chance to build an understanding with Bradley. |

Couldn't agree more with Yogi...would rather see Bradley-Cameron in DM than Bradley-Jones, at least for the WCQs Plus, no need to rush back Jones from his concussion...actually, I always preferred Bradley-Edu
