Wish I could but a Tuesday night on the other side of the country makes it hard for me. I hope Altidore will be OK to play as he left last night grabbing his hamstring. Zusi will be suspended and Jones suffered a concussion and probably will not play either. Wow suddenly central midfield, thought to be a US strength, is not looking so good now. Who is there to play alongside Bradley? Or wide right for Zusi? Kljestan perhaps at either position but with Torres, Edu and Beckerman not here, central midfield looks a little thin right now. |

True, there are a lot of questions in midfield now without Jones and Zusi. Kljestan seems the top candidate now either in the center or out on the right. Maybe Corona can also play where Zusi has been on the right. But the options are somewhat limited now. Williams and Holden are each on the roster but are either ready after long injury layoffs? |

I think Altidore started holding his hamstring when the ref told him to hurry up and get off the field. He was wasting time (I hope). Cameron may be slotted in the midfield somewhere is my guess. |

I read that Panama's Blas Perez will miss the game because of a gastrointestinal problem. That is a big loss for Panama, he is the focal point of Panama's attack. |

I think Vince is likely correct, Cameron may play central midfield with Kljestan moving in to play in Zusi's place. Bottom line is the team's depth especially in midfield is not very good. The expected US strength appears anything but at the present time. Panama missing Blas Perez, who is a real handful to defend is a big loss. The US need to take advantage of that absence. |

Either Kljestan or Corona should be the candidates to play on the right. Using Cameron a defender to play defensive midfield at home? Sounds conservative to me but not many other options available to Klinsmann. Panama have yet to lose in qualifying with 3 draws and a win (over Honduras) it does not take a genius to think the team will look to sit back and defend and seek to counter attack. Losing Perez is a blow but would be more of a loss at home than on the road. I expect Rolando Blackburn to come in for him and team with Luis Tejada to give Panama speed on the counter. This could be Panama's team to play the US: Penedo; Parrish, Baloy, Torres, Rodriguez; Gomez, Sanchez, A. Henríquez, L. Henríquez; Blackburn, Tejada Armando Cooper and Nelson Barahona are two likely subs off the bench but one thing about Julio Dely Valdes since he became Panama's coach is he does like to make some surprising substitutions so this is no guarantee of what panama will use tomorrow night. |

Thanks for the preview on Panama autogol. Maybe Grant Wahl is reading your posts, because in this preview of the game he thinks Panama's lineup will be exactly as autogol stated it. Wahl also surmises, as autogol does, that Cameron and either Corona or Kljestan will be the substitutes for the unavailable Jones and Zusi. Also note in that preview where the grass laid over the fake turf in Seattle apparently is not in that good of condition. Finally, Herculez Gomez, still bothered by a knee injury, has been sent home from this camp too and will not play either this match or next week vs Honduras. At some point shouldn't Klinsmann call in a replacement or two for all of these absentees? Jermaine Jones, although he will miss the Panama game should be available for Honduras. |

I am with you Yogi, since the US called these players together, these players have had to leave due to injury-Edu, Shea, Williams and Gomez and now both Jones and Zusi will be unavailable to play Panama. Even with each ready to play next week against Honduras, the US appears to be going into these games short handed. Why do that? Bring in a veteran or two to help bolster the team, especially in midfield. Is Holden ready to go or is Jk using his presence as an extended preseason for the long inactive player? Not bad to do so but if he cannot play don't have him taking a roster spot, use it on somebody who could play, like Feilhaber, Beckerman or dare I say it, Donovan! The potentially bad field conditions could help Panama's more direct style of play. I am concerned about that. |

Yes RTF, there is plenty to be concerned about for tonight's match, except that it is being played on our home turf. (As I mentioned in the CONCACAF thread, it is beyond ironic to be playing on a crap home field after all the years of playing on pure crap fields in Central America for WCQ's.) Panama is in the thick of things and need a win or tie to stay there. And they have been playing lights out. Better kick it up a notch, US! Another challenge for the US: Putting two decent games together in a row?! Last time we did that was when, the CONFED Cup two years ago? |

John, the Confederations Cup was four years ago. I've forgotten was that the last time the US played two good matches back to back? And does the Jamaica win, while a good result, count as a good game by the US? If the temporary grass field plays slow then that will play into Panama's hands and will help negate the skill of players like Bradley, Dempsey, Altidore and Fabian Johnson. Something to watch tonight. |

Four years? wow. In any case, I can't remember the last two good games in a row for the US MNT without going back and looking at the record. Maybe it was the CONFED Cup! Any away win in WCQ is good enough for me to call a good game, after what we have seen over the years I guess. But it sure wasn't an all around good game Martin, that is true. It will be a shame if the playing surface plays a noticeable factor in the game. If it is a negative for the US, then the USSF will have outsmarted itself in the venue selection, that's for sure. |

Just to chip in an impressionistic two cents, but despite the shortcomings of the last match, a boost of confidence is what the team needed (maybe I'm projecting, but the Jamaica outcome has calmed me down a lot!). I expect a win, but there's cushion now. And Bradley is still there. I hope the field conditions are not as dire as it appears they will be, because I do think the team was/is looking forward to playing in the city with the best MLS support. (Not saying the execution was acceptable, but I appreciate the nod to fan culture.) |
