Supporters tickets on sale today. No time listed for this Saturday match. USCIS may have to open an office next to the visitors locker room. Great day to call up Osvaldo Alonso. I think he has citizenship now and FIFA has some weird "out" clause for players who defect (I think). |

MY starting XI: ------------------Rimando----------------- Beltran---Goodson----Gooch-------DMB ------------------Diskerud----------------- --Corona---------Holden--------Torres-- -----------Landon---------Gomez-------- Subs: Shea, Bedoya & McInerney Parkhurst hasn't overwhelmed me at RB, so would like to see Beltran get a chance. Think Holden is ready to start & play more minutes & know that Wondo is on a roll but want to see how Gomez & Donovan play together...plus, want to see Jack Mac get a shot, as a sub. Prediction: USA 3-0 with goals by Gomez, Donovan & Corona

USMNT 4-1 Cuba FT...wasn't pretty & the ref SUCKED but on our way to the QFs The first half was very tentative & lethargic...Shea was HORRIBLE & Holden just didn't have it going today...but JK's three subs worked out beautifully, especially Wondo!! Two more goals for Wondo, as a sub, & Corona scored his first goal for the USMNT...even, Castillo had a very solid game IMO!! Outside of the Cuba goal, I thought the backline was pretty good & the midfield opened up with Diskerud coming in as a sub. Beckerman, Beltran & Rimando were all good IMO...no surprise, as they were playing at their home stadium. Wondo, Corona & Donovan were my three stars and thought Castillo helped himself. Shea just isn't USMNT material IMO & Holden needs more playing time & the right MF partner IMO! Needless to say, there are many issues to work on but like this team's resiliency & chemistry...BRING ON THE TICOS

The ref was horrible. Does that guy do MLS matches because I've never heard of him. Sorry about that... I thought the U.S. was pretty dismal. I mean Canada at home beat those guys 3-0 and we took 37 shots against them. I know the U.S. is not at full strength, but we're not good right now and I thought quite a few American players were not good at all. That being said Wondolowski is playing well and I don't see him often, but Castillo has been quite good every time I have seen him. They did enough and will hopefully build, but if they play like that they may lose their next two matches and bow out early.... I'm sure they will rise to the level of their opponent as they always do. cheers, hobbes |

Yeah a pretty mediocre game but sometimes as we see with other national teams it is not easy to play clearly inferior opponents. Having said that give Cuba credit for a pretty good first half and they scored a wonderful goal. The US reacted all right in the 2nd half with their changes and Wondolowski is reminding me a bit of Pipo Inzaghi with his ability to get into scoring position and finish off chances with barely a touch of the ball. 10 goals in 2 games but now the tournament really starts for the US as beginning with Costa Rica now they will be facing much more competitive teams than Belize and Cuba. Onyewu is I think going to have trouble finding a new club, he just does not look good, slow and clumsy, IMO he was fortunate he was not whistled for a penalty and better teams in this tournament could expose his frailities more than Cuba did. Shea also disappointed me as I was hoping he could provide a good wing display but the US play improved when Torres and Diskerud entered the game in the second half. Tuesday we will start to find out what this group of players is capable of. I expect we will see more of Torres and Diskerud and less of Shea and maybe Holden. |

Yes, Gooch is not ready for prime time, no doubt about it. As my son first said right before Whinenalda mentioned the same thing, if you are an up and comer hopeful for the national team and you can't shine in a game against an opponent like Cuba, you are toast, really burnt toast. Consequently, no idea about what JK thinks, but I have seen all I need to see of Gooch, Shea, Parkhurst, and even Torres for a long time. And that isn't based on only this one game. You have to wonder how this US team will do against the tougher opponents in the tourney. It is usually not very helpful for the later rounds to start out having easy games. |

The US reacted all right in the 2nd half with their changes and Wondolowski is reminding me a bit of Pipo Inzaghi with his ability to get into scoring position and finish off chances with barely a touch of the ball. Haha, leave it to a Milan fan to make the Inzaghi comparison with Wondolowski! Actually that is not a abd comparison as Wondolowski is showing himself in these last few US matches to be a classic goal poacher. he is running into space at the right time and getting on the end of any crosses into the box. If any US player in these first two games is making a case for himself for future national team duty, well with the possible exception of Donovan who we all expected to rebound here, it has been Wondolowski. |
