I have been trying to access both atdhe.net and rojadirecta the two websites I use to access online streams of matches but neither is online. My worst fear is somehow the copyrights holders have blocked those sites much as they did with iraqgoals.net.

Anybody else having any problems accessing these sites?

raconteur, I was having the same problem today too so I did a search and found this website,

ATDHE.net was taken down for copyright infringement

The US Department of Homeland Security apparently were the ones who carried this out. It does not look good for those of us who are looking to view games online.

An update I just went to atdhe.net and received this message,

Bookmark http://88.80.11.29 for now

And their twitter page says the following,

ATDHE.NET will be availabe here http://88.80.11.29/ starting from tomorow untill we set a new domain Hoping for your support . ATDHE

I am assuming they are setting something up with a server outside the US.

My take is that it is a very half-hearted response to a judicial imperative by low level bureaucrats.

All of the sites will move to mirrors outside the US.

The legal impetus behind the seizures appears to have been led by various organisations that sell Mixed Martial Arts "bouts" on pay per view, with the NBA and Premier League tagging along.

There is a bill in Canada that is being debated that would charge users per amount they're online. The idea is to combat the rise of people canceling cable and not paying for movies. There's a huge backlash starting, but I think the situation adthe is in mat be the way of the future.

I never knew you could watch movies online, I just watch futbol matches and even then only when not available thru my TV, I much prefer watching it on my TV screen than a computer screen.

Thanks to Sporting and robdog for some alternate sites in case the sites I normally use remain shut down.

Thanks to everyone for the answers, now I know I was not alone in not reaching those sites. rosarino, the reason why hobbes wrote that they are considering charging for online time is people watch movies/sports online and then hook up their computers to their televisions so they can see a much larger picture. There are some who do that for soccer/football games too although I stick to viewing them on my laptop which is why, like rosarino, if given a choice I would opt for watching via TV.

Sounds as if atdhe and rojadirecta have taken tips from Julian Assange on how to have backup systems available when the government tries and shut their primary system down. ;)

Yesterday I tried visiting atdhenet.tv supposedly the new site, the font was identical to the old atdhe.net but the site tried downloading some malware on my computer! Fortunately my security blocked it but I am not visiting there again anytime soon.

Thanks for the warning SuperEagle, I really liked atdhe.net because they often had obscure games and during the recent Asian Nations Cup it was a great place to go for links to those matches.

I usually Yahoo or Google Justin TV Soccer or Justin TV Futbol and you can get a lot of channels from that service which are safe.

An article written from the UFC's perspective on sports leagues and organizations fight to take down internet streaming of their events:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-02-24/s...n-internet.html

Quote:

To slow that growth, sports leagues, like media companies also tormented by digital pirates, are fighting back any way they can. They’ve teamed up in an industry coalition, they’ve filed lawsuits and they’re lobbying for more aggressive copyright legislation. On Jan. 24, in a move reminiscent of Viacom Inc.’s unsuccessful 2007 lawsuit against YouTube, Zuffa, the Las Vegas-based owner of the UFC, sued Justin.tv in federal court in Nevada, alleging that the 4-year-old venture-capital- backed startup wasn’t doing enough to keep infringing material off its website.

A Justin.tv spokesman would not comment on the suit.

Most intellectual property experts say Justin.tv complies with the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which says website owners are protected if they move expeditiously to take down infringing content when notified by a copyright holder.

Maybe that has since been resolved because I used that site yesterday to view a couple of games online and had no troubles. In fact I read a few online reviews which cautioned about steering clear of other websites with the atdhenet name because they were fake ones, esp. those ending .fm or .me But the atdhenet.tv apparently is the successor to the one which the US government shut down and is one free of malware.
