I have been working on this list of international journeyman footballers:

http://southamerican-futbol.blogspot.com/2...footballer.html

Does anyone know of any players worthy of a place on the list. I'm sure there are hunders more of them out there.

Thanks

Fascinating list, before reading your list but after reading your post here, the players who first came to my mind were Sebastian Abreu and Nii Lamptey but you have already named them. I had never heard of the German goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel but take a look at his Wikipedia page,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutz_Pfannenstiel

he's played for 25 clubs and on 6 continents! He must have some list of passport stamps! But look at the clubs he's played for, the very few which are recognizable to an international audience- Wimbledon, Nottingham Forest, Wacker Burghausen, Vancouver Whitecaps, he barely played for. Most of his clubs have been obscure ones in football outposts, including his current one where he apparently is a player/manager-Ramblers F.C. in Namibia!

Lutz Pfannenstiel is the ultimate football journeyman!

I thought Abreu, whose name was the first which came to my mind too would be near the top of the list of most traveled footballers but Pfannenstiel takes the cake!

I know of a lot of Cameroonian players who have made the rounds too, there are a lot more who have played in 6 countries but that is one less than your cut off standard so I have not included them but here are some others, in addition to the other Cameroonians who you have already listed (I've listed them with the number of clubs followed by the nations they've played in):

Nicolas Alnoudji 13/8
David Embe 8/8
Samuel Ipoua 10/7
Michel Pensee Billong 7/7
Bernard Tchoutang 8/8
Lucien Mettomo 8/7
Gustave Bahoken 10/7
Alain Nkong 11/7
Daniel Wansi 8/8

I used to write a column at camfoot.com about 5 years ago following expatriate Cameroonian players which is how I came about a lot of this information.

There also is a Canadian international of Cameroonian descent, Ali Gerba who is well travelled, he's played for 11 clubs in 7 countries.

One of the best of these well traveled players would be former Romanian international Gheorghe Popescu who played for 9 clubs in 7 different nations.

Welcome to the message board.

Ok here is another player to challenge George Weah and Gheorghe Popescu as the best player on this list of well traveled players:

Robert Prosinecki

Not only did he represent Yugoslavia at the 1990 World Cup and Croatia at the 1998 tournament after the disintegration of Yugoslavia, but Prosinecki played for clubs in a variety of other nations. He played for both Dinamo Zagreb and Red Star Belgrade when they were still part of the old Yugoslavia. He then played for Red Star as it became part of Serbia and he played for Croatia Zagreb, as Dinamo Zagreb were briefly known, in the independent state of Croatia. He played elsewhere in Europe too and even played some in Slovenia at the tail end of his career. Overall Prosinecki played for 11 clubs in 7 countries.

They should give the Lutz Pfannenstiel award out to whomever succeeds him as the most widely traveled player in the world!

I would imagine there will be other players like Prosinecki who played for either the former Yugslavia or ex Soviet Union then one or moreof its successor states, who could make Futbol3's list of players who have played in 6 or more different countries.

I did not see Denilson on your list, the one time most expensive player in the world has played for 11 clubs in 7 different countries, although at his last club Kavala in Greece, he was on the club's books but never played. The guy looked promising for Brasil at World Cup 1998 but he simply never lived up to his potential.

Colombian forward John Jairo Trellez also played for 7 clubs in 7 nations and like Denilson once played for Dallas in the US.

As for guys from the ex Soviet Union, how about Akhrik Tsveiba who represented the Soviet Union, CIS, Ukraine and Russia internationally? He played in the old Soviet Union then in Ukraine and Russia once they became independent republics. In total he played for 12 different clubs in 6 countries.

Igor Dobrovolski also played for 3 national teams-Soviet Union, CIS and Russia and played with 9 clubs in 8 nations, including the old Soviet Union, Russia and Moldova.

Cheers for your suggestions lads. I have added the ones that meet the criteria to the list. If you spot any more stick them here and I'll add them.

I keep coming across them myself, just added Argentine defender Héctor Almadoz who played for Vélez Sársfield in their 1994 Intercontinenal Cup win against AC Milan before becoming an international journeyman 16 (8).

Martin, futbolx3's list does include players who have played in 6 countries not 7, so there are a few more Cameroonians to add to this list then,

Joseph Desire Job 10 (6)
Geremi Njitap 9 (6)
