As a fan with no favorite in this one, I was particularly pleased with the level of skill and highly respectful tone that carried throughout the match by all the combatants. Very few stupid dangerous fouls, maybe only one.

This was mostly true, but I can't resist pointing out that Valencia was cruising for a booking from the get-go, with his late tackles and general argy-bargy on the ball. It was amazing that the very good Hungarian ref waited more than an hour before pulling his card out.

The nice thing about Messi now is there are no stains on his reputation--unlike the young Maradona for example, whose brilliance was offset by incidents like his red card in the '82 WC. And don't get me started on C. Ronaldo or Rooney.

All true enough, but even Valencia was on better behavior than usual, and the entire group on both sides played so differently than most of the lead-in games that I barely recognized them! :)

Not much to add to what has already been discussed, just to say that watching Barcelona is a pleasure, they remind me of the excellent teams Flamengo had in the late 70s and early 80s with their great passing game, and like this Barcelona team, that group had excellent collective play but also had an individual who could win a game on his own- Zico.

I guess we will have to wait till next August's Super Cup to see if Europa League champions and unbeaten league winners Porto are the only European team capable of giving Barcelona a run for their money.
