It goes from bad to worse for Ribery, he received a 3 game suspension for his red card in leg 1 against Lyon. So he will miss the Champions League Final. Seems too drastic to me. Lyon were like a souffle, in the end they just collapsed. They could not handle the pressure and played very nervously in both legs. It was almost as if once they reached the semifinals, their best ever Champions league showing, they were satisifed. Bayern showed a winning spirit, it was Bayern fighting for loose balls, it was Bayern doing more running and it was Bayern scoring the goals. Add me to those praising the work of Schweinsteiger and van Bommel, particularly Schweinsteiger, in midfield. They overwhelmed Makoun and Gonalons in the center of the park and that led to Bayern controlling the game. I think Barcelona would be wise to use Yaya Toure to give them some of that midfield drive tonight that Bayern received from van Bommel and Schweinsteiger. |

A very rigoristic penalty for Ribery, a red card and typical one game suspension would have been sufficient in my opinion. I do not have much to add to what has ben written about Lyon, they just did not appear last night while Bayern did and showed their stronger mental abilities. As for tonight, well Mourinho really is trying to play with Barcelona's heads, he gives a press confeence and says Barcelona's anti-madridism has made them obsessed with reaching the final at the Bernabeu and then to add to the morbo, I do not know how to translate that into English, he is having Luis Figo, who since retiring works for Inter, sit on Inter's bench at the Nou Camp! ![]() Cannot wait for tonight's match to begin. |

Slightly off-topic but Phil Ball wrote a book about Spanish football called just that: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Morbo-Spanish-Foot...l/dp/0954013468 I've seen morbo translated as an attraction for unpleasant things, but it's a difficult word to pin down. |

After a horrible match last week in Milan I think Dani Alves will bounce back and be much more influential in this game. Barcelona will need him too. And I agree with nkono, Yaya Toure should be playing in midfield instead of Busquets, Toure gives better projection forward to the team. |

You guys will get your wish about Toure he starts in midfield, and so does Busquets with Keita as he did in last season's final, playing left back. The starting teams tonight: Barcelona: 1-Victor Valdes; 2-Daniel Alves, 3-Gerard Pique, 18-Gabriel Milito, 15-Seydou Keita; 6-Xavi, 24-Yaya Toure, 16-Sergio Busquets; 17-Pedro, 9-Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 10-Lionel Messi Inter Milan: 12-Julio Cesar; 13-Maicon, 25-Walter Samuel, 6-Lucio, 4-Javier Zanetti; 19-Esteban Cambiasso, 8-Thiago Motta; 9-Samuel Eto’o, 10-Wesley Sneijder, 27-Goran Pandev; 22-Diego Milito So will it be Camp Nou or Camp Mou tonight?

Wednesday's second leg... . . . . . . . Barcelona 1, Inter Milan 0 (2-3 aggregate). The defending champs are out, and you can't say it was unjustified. Barca controlled about 75% of the ball but was amazingly tepid in attack, missing the goal repeatedly. Even playing with an extra man for more than an hour didn't cut it. (Thiago Motta was unjustly sent off midway through the first half. He merely put an arm out to create space at a 50-50 ball; his hand came to rest on Busquets' throat, and he dropped like a leaf, clutching his face.) Barca's best scoring chance in the first half (and only shot on goal) came shortly after the red card, when Messi's curling shot was brilliantly tipped around the post. There were more misses in the second half, none worse than Bojan Krkic's open header from six yards out that went one yard wide. The home team finally scored with seven minutes left in regular time, as Pique took a through ball, did a 360 to avoid the keeper and a tackler, then slid it into the open net. This led to a grandstand finish, and a goal by Krkic that was waved off--I think for handball, though the hand in question was right in front of a Barca player's stomach. If there's any justice in FIFA (ha!), Thiago Motta's red card will be wiped out and Busquets will be the one who gets suspended. |

Inter were better over the two legs and we now know that the concept of karmic retribution applies to refereeing in Champions League semifinals. No complaints. Best of luck to Inter in the final. |

It was not a pretty game and the expulsion of Motta, I too think it was unjustified, Busquets engages in a lot of theatrics every time I see him play, changed the game as Inter renounced attacking after that and sat back and defended. Great effort by Inter in closing Barcelona down. They followed Mourinho's tactical instructions perfectly and made Messi, Xavi and Dani Alves ineffective. A couple calls could have gone in Barca's favour as ursus implies but justice was done, Barcelona for all of their possession only placed 4 shots on target! So now Mourinho and Inter advance to the final where they will face Mourinho's coaching mentor Louis Van Gaal and Bayern Munich. Meanwhile Sneijder and Robben will have their reunion n the stadium where they once played. |

Are you referring to this act??? ![]() Like The Special One said, "ninos de Teatro will be up to their old tricks". At least Chelsea & Barca went out to a team that made it to the Finals

Full credit to Inter for the win, they basically parked the bus in front of goal and even Barcelona could not break through. I have never been a big fan of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, I am less so now. He just does not strike me as a big game player and it was games such as this one why Barcelona spent so much to acquire him, hoping his size and penalty area pesence could help break down a resolute defense. But Samuel and Lucio just ate him up while without room, Lionel Messi had too many feet to get past to get clear on goal. It was not the classic many were hoping for but a typically tight, tactical game and one where Inter's power and defensive discipline were too much for even Barcelona to break down. Mourinho is an asshole everybody knows that but he sure can coach and he has Inter in their first European Cup/Champions League Final since 1972! |

Maybe Pique should have started at forward instead of Ibrahimovic? Barcelona looked more dangerous with he at center forward than they did with the statue like Ibrahimovic. They made a grave mistake in selling Eto'o for Ibrahimovic. Toure's hand was against his body, in my eyes that is not a handball, Bojan's goal should have counted. But as ursus wrote, it may have been last season's semifinal karma coming abck at them! |

 Very true about Pique vs Ibrahimovic! While Eto'o was running his socks off on the other team essentially playing as another fullback, Ibra was immobile. But the guy who was really misse din both legs in my view was Andres Iniesta. His passing, movement and ability to pierce a defense were absent in both legs of this game. Inter once again controlled Xavi and messi very well, but having a third attacker like Iniesta out there would have made their defensive work even more difficult. Were my eyes deceiving me or did Barcelona tuen the spriklers on to stop Inter's onfield celebrations? Ribery's suspension was too much. |

My namesake was Barcelona's best attacker! Inter had the size, speed and strenth to go with their tactical discipline and that is what nullified Barcelona. Chelsea did the same last season in the semifinals until Iniesta rescued Barcelona but without Iniesta there were no late match heroics this year. I thnk many World Cup teams were watching to see how to contain Xavi and Messi. Xavi at least should get Iniesta back to help him in the World Cup but tonight without him, Barcelona just did not have the same magic. Yes, you can say I thought Iniesta was really missed. |

I think this is very true, Iniesta was missed as he is very good at finding holes in a defense, has the technical skills to exploit those holes, passes well and has a wonderful on field understanding with Xavi. Inter did a great job of getting defenders behind the ball and except on the goal I do not recall Xavi making any incisive through passes. Despite Inter's solid defense, Barcelona still had opportunities to win this game but did not take advantage of them, Bojan missed an open header from a nice pass by Messi, Bojan's later goal annuled by the referee even though it appeared as if any handball by Toure was involuntary, Messi's curling shot in the first half brilliantly tipped away by Julio Cesar. Sometimes you need luck and that was not on Barcelona's side in this series. So well done to Inter but they will have to attack more in a one game final against Bayern Munich. Should be a pretty evenly matched final. |
