That is an interesting fact and considering Brasil's history I am a little surprised there had not previously been any brothers in the same team for an official match. I guess Socrates was already retired by the time his brother Rai broke into the squad. |

It just might happen again in a couple of years time. In January Manchester United signed twin Brazilian full-backs, Fabio da Silva (right-back) and Rafael da Silva (left-back) from Fluminense. Both are adventurous full-backs in the Brazilian tradition and reds have been pretty excited by what we've seen so far of the 'Brazilian Nevilles'. Rafael can play right-back or right-wing and has already made his competitive debut for United, coming on as a sub on the opening day of this season against Newcastle. Equally impressive is his twin Fabio, with whom he plays in the Brazil Under-17 team. Fabio was second top-scorer in the South American Under-17 Championship and was Brazil's top-scorer in the Under-17 World Cup, all from left-back! These kids have players of the calibre of Brown, Neville and Evra (as well as Simpson, on loan at Blackburn) ahead of them in the pecking order, but they are squad numbers 20 and 21 in the first team and can expect to receive some playing time this season. Another pair of footballing relations! |

There is a possibility that down the road there can be another set of brothers playing for Brazil, Kaka and his younger brother Digao. The younger Digao, a central defender, was loaned by Milan this year to Standard Liege in Belgium to get some experience. I'm not so sure if Digao will ever be good enough to represent Brazil but it is an outside possibility. |

Here is a father-daughter combination for our list: Casey Nogueira was the two goal star of the University of North Carolina's victory over Notre Dame in the US women's collegiate championship game. Casey's father Victor Nogueira was the former goalkeeper for the San Diego Sockers of the NASL and their later incarnations in various indoor leagues. He was known as one of the best ever indoor goalkeepers. |

Gonzalo Arconada who was just fired as Almeria's coach in Spain is the brother of Luis Arconada the Real Sociedad goalkeeper wo played for Spain at Euros 80 and 84 and World Cup 82. Arconada was a good goalie and a star on a league winning Real Sociedad team but probably is best remembered for mistakes he made at both Espana 82 and in the final of Euro 84 when he allowed a French shot to squeeze underneath his body and into the net! |

A couple of other additions to our list, one a father-son combo, the other an uncle-nephew. The father-son are forward Carlos Maria Morales and the son is Juan Morales a midfielder both of whom currently play for Montevideo Wanderers in Uruguay. Several times this season father and son were able to play together with the father an established starter on the team and the son a teenage reserve. The uncle-nephew combo is uncle Philbert Jones who played on Trinidad & Tobago's national team which nearly qualified for the 1990 World Cup, losing to the US on Paul Caligiuri's goal. Philbert's nephew is Kenwyne Jones the current Sunderland and T&T international striker. |

Here is some sad news about a father-daughter combination we discussed earlier in the thread, Leo Clijsters the former Belgian international defender and the father of tennis great Kim Clijsters passed away this past weekend at age 52 after battling lung cancer. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news;_ylt=AnHO...ov=ap&type=lgns In addition to playing in two World Cups I had forgotten that Clijsters also was the captain of the Mechelen team which won the 1988 Cup Winners Cup, one of those unfashionable clubs which can now only dream of repeating that European glory from 2 decades ago. As the linked article states after retiring Clijsters managed his daughter's tennis career and considering how successful she became he probably made more money doing that than he did in his own playing career! Not to mention the pride he must have felt as not only was his daughter one of the world's best tennis players but was also known on the tour as being one of the nicest persons off the court. |

The tennis world is littered with greedy, obsesive patents. It's nice to hear about a dad that apparently got it right. |

Carlos Maria Morales just announced his retirement from football. He had a long and pretty successful career but I am sure the highlight for him was playing in a first division match with his son. Following that would be difficult so he picked a good time to retire. |

I will revive this thread because in the Mexico national team and league discussion threads we have been talking about Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, the 21 year old goalscoring sensation from Guadalajara who leads Mexico's league with 8 goals in 9 games and has scored 3 goals in 3 international appearances as he looks like a very strong possibility of making Mexico's World Cup roster. If he does he will become the third generation of his family to play in a World Cup for Mexico. Hernandez' grandfather is Tomas Balcazar, who played for Guadalajara's powerhouse teams in the early to mid 50's and was a forward for Mexico at the 1954 World Cup. Balcazar's daughter, Chicharito's mother, married Javier "Chicharo" Hernandez, a forward with primarily Tecos, who represented Mexico at World Cup 1986. Chicharo, which means green pea, got his nickname because of his green colored eyes. His son, Chicharito, translates as little green pea. I can not think of another 3 generational family of World Cup players so if Chicharito makes Mexico's team, which he almost certainly will, then some history could be made. |

Nor can I, good information Pique. But just wait for another 12 years or so when Paolo Maldini's son will play for the Azzurri, and the Maldinis can join the Hernandez Balcazars as a 3 generational World Cup family! |

One recent one: John Rooney, 19 year old brother of Wayne, has been training with the Seattle Sounders.] . John appears to be a footballer of more modest talents than his older bro. This one stretches the definition of 'famous' and 'sport' to the absolute breaking point, but but I can't resist, anyone knew that Herculez Gomez' brother, Ulysses is a successful Mixed Martial Arts competitor (flyweight, <125lbs, division)?!
