"Why, ...." or "after all"

What word do you propose for the preposition equivalent to Polish "przecież" or German "doch"? In English this corresponds to "why" used in a particular fashion, as well as the expression "after all" to a degree. I believe Czechs say "přesto" and Slovaks "predsa", though I'm not sure if the context is right. I know having the full context helps Google Translate a lot, so when I put in the full Polish sentence "Przecież jest już ósma!", I got the following results for the first part of the sentence, corresponding to the word "przecież":

EN: After all
BE: У рэшце рэшт
UK: Зрештою
RU: В конце концов
CZ: Koneckonců
SK: Koniec koncov
SL: Konec koncev
BCS: (Na) kraju krajeva, posle svega. uostalom
BG: В края на краищата
MK: Впрочем

It would seem that the variations of the expression "koniec koncov" are prevalent here. There is a variant of this in Polish too, though its use is not as prevalent as "przecież" or "wszak", though I think the meaning is pretty much the same. It's still a little bit more emphatic than just "przecież" though, which perhaps best corresponds to German "doch". What expression or variation should we go with?

This is more like "because" though. Similar, but not really the same meaning or usage. I wonder if we can make a word for this, might be somewhat difficult :P

This is a problem I've encountered myself as well. I agree that "konec koncev" is probably the best solution, but it's not the kind of thing you'd use three times on one page. In other cases I usually write "zatom" or something similar.

I uže ne zna sę čto je najvažniejšim.

Well, "zatom" is still not "doch". Maybe we should talk about this more :P
