Welcome ladies, gentleman, crews, and drivers for the Greater Los Angeles Lions Club Championships, at the historic Lions Drag strip in Wilmington, California, the inaugural 2017 Saturday Night Racing Association's Southern Fryed Drag Tour event. Most of us are enjoying the relief from the unrelenting winter in most of the country. The temps here are in the low 80's.

This is the 7th season of the Southern Fryed Drag Tour. For some reason we have a disappointing small field of only five cars. We have two past Southern Fryed Drag Tour championship teams competing this year. That would be the 2013 championship DIRT team who will be running the SVO Mustang II Turbo, driven by Barry. The other is the 2016 Championship team Historic Racing Associates running tonight's fast qualifier is Paul D. "Speed Merchant" Smith driving the "Little Feather" Junior Fuel Dragster.

It's time to get this season started. Our first run of the season will be a single car pass by Kevin Sassman driving his Dodge Red Ram hemi powered Fiat Topolino prepped by the Uncle Verde race team and sponsored by Hellion Speed Equipment.

Kevin takes a pass of 8.25 for an uneventful season starting pass.

Has a checkered past.

Stand on it....brakes only slow yoou down.

Our first pairing of the 2016 season will be tonight's fast qualifier, Paul D. "Speed Merchant" Smith VS newcomer Otto Varoom.

Speed id driving the 310 Cu. In. Aluminum Small Block "Chevy" powered, "Little Feather" Junior Fuel Dragster, prepared by last years champions, Historic Racing Associates.

Otto is driving the 425 C.I.blown Buick Nailhead, Alki powered "what The----Altered".

It's time to race. Both drivers stage. Otto takes off with a 0.87 second advantage. Speed charges after him and is able to beat him by a nose. Speed will move on to Round 2.

Has a checkered past.

Stand on it....brakes only slow yoou down.

Our last pair Dirttrack Dave and Barry Kuta are approaching the line.

Dirttrack Dave is driving a 1972 Nova SS-Pro stock/superstock powered by a 454 big block for DTD Motorsports and sponsored by Valvoline Oil (Slicko Salaski-rep).

Barry is driving the SVO Mustang II Trubo powered by 2,300cc's. Prepped by DIRT and sponsored by the Durango BBQ and grill and Jameson Irish Whiskey.

Dave takes off with a .7 second head start. Barry chases after him, but Dave hangs on for the win. Dave will move into Round 2.

That concludes Round 1. We’ll return for Round 2 after the break.

Has a checkered past.

Welcome back for Round 2 of the Greater Los Angeles Lions Club Championships, Lions Drag strip in Wilmington, California, the inaugural 2017 Saturday Night Racing Association's Southern Fryed Drag Tour event.

The weather is holding in the high 70's, 80% humidity, with only a few clouds.

Let's get started with our first paring, consisting of Kevn VS Speed.

Kevin is driving the Hellion Fiat Topolino VS Speed driving the "Little Feather" Junior Fuel Dragster.

Both drivers do massive burnouts and stage. Kevin takes off with .35 seconds in hand. Speed screams away but is unable to beat Kevin to the lights. Kevin is the first to advance into the final round.

Up next is Dirttrack Dave driving his Nova "the Old Poo"' Dave will be doing a single car run. He stages and goes. Dave will also be in our final round.

That concludes the semi-final round. Be sure to return in time to see the exciting final, after the mandatory break.

Welcome back to final round of the Greater Los Angeles Lions Club Championships at the historic Lions Dragstrip, in Wilmington, California. The opening event of the 2016 Southern Fryed Drag Tour.

The temp is going to be great for the final round between Kevin and Dirttrack Dave.

Kevin will be driving his Dodge Red Ram hemi powered Fiat Topolino prepped by the Uncle Verde race team and sponsored by Hellion Speed Equipment.

Both drivers go through their prep and stage. Dave roars off with a 3.2 second lead. Kevin waits patiently, then drops the hammer on the Fiat, but gets excessive wheel spin. He gathers it up, but can not recover and Dave hangs on to win the first 2017 Southern Fryed Drag Tour event of the year.

Thanks to all for what promises to be another closely fought season of elimination racing. For HRA third place is a good start, even if we were out-driven fair and square in the semi By Kevin's formidable Hellion Fiat altered. Despite its name, the DTD Old Poo was an immaculately prepared and driven machine which should be a strong competitor throughout the season. Congrats Dave on a well-judged first win!

As last year's overall winners HRA has decided to enter a, by now traditional, second car. One of our older machines, the No. 4 Tin Box Competition coupe, which we hope will provide some backup to the Little Feather in what is sure to be a tough and competitive series. Look for it at Firebird next week.
Keep on buildin'
