Local Knowledge, and Idea by Dad Propel the Little Lady to Front.
White Elephant 100, SNRA Late Model Race #9, The Iron Bowl, Birmingham, Ala., 3/8 mile medium banked dirt oval.

It was HOT in central Alabama at the dirt track jewel the SNRA played a large part in refurbishing. The track was dry slick and Emily Cudahy even spun on her qualifying lap. The two veteran top point men had trouble with their qualifying laps as Hondo and Charlie ended up starting 18th and 19th. Tim Freeman, one of the best qualifying drivers this year took the pole in his Grand Prix though, just ahead of the local ace Spud Loggins. Bulldog Carman, Kevin Sassman and Gordy Miller filled out the top five.

Native son Jeff Gordon, in town to sub for Junior in Nascar race the next day dropped the green over the field. Tim Freeman led the first eight laps, Spud took over for one, and then Porky Henley pushed ahead to lead the next 40. Meanwhile, the field behind was struggling with hot drivers, overheating cars and a track that in spite of additional pre-race watering was becoming even drier and slicker. Daddy Spud Loggins installed Chevy 327 engines into Canzady and Presley's Malibu's to make for cooler running and less chance of overpowering the track. This would have been a good move with his own car too, as he began to slip backward at the halfway point and Canzady and Presley were just cruising along on the cushion. Hondo followed Canzady, knowing a good move when he sees one, but for even him, fourth was going to be the best he could do. Frank the Crank Burval and Carl Brennecke both had very good race set ups and it was they that had taken the first two spots over Porky at the race's mid point.

Posted Image Portrait of a Pro, When will that win come?

The two veterans had a good dual for about 20 laps but Canzady sailed by on the 72nd lap and was not headed the rest of the way for a popular hometown win. Frank and Carl hung on to second and third ahead of Hondo and Porky Henley. The second half of the top 10 was made up of Mark Kelly's Buick, Chip Sears' Pick up which had a good outing, Gordy Miller, Tim Freeman and Presley Loggins. All of the crews were happy that they would not need to repair any damage after the caution free race and could get loaded up in various modes of trasportation for the long haul to the gravelly half mile of Greater Fairbanks Speedway next week.

:))) Congrats Canzady on the win great racing girl :))) .Things are looking good with the car and winning the pole gave the crew something to cheer about.Had some good racing all race long and racing Presley for that top 10 was all i could do to keep her behind me.She has this racing thing figured out now she just needs the results to match. It will be nice to get somewhere cool for next weeks race up in Greater Fairbanks Speedway and get away from this heat devil .So everyone stay safe and see you next week in Fairbanks. Dave another well done race report again this week will we need snow tires up north next week? r:r
