Welcome ladies, gentleman, crews, and drivers for race #8 of the 2016 Southern Fryed Drag Tour at Spring Thunder at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tennessee. We can't catch a break with the weather this year. Last year we were in the high 70's, this year in the 40's. At least it stopped raining this morning.

In our first seven races we have had six different winners. "ET" who lead all season has finally been passed by Kevin for the points lead. The points race is very tight, with only five points separating the first seven drivers. So, let's go racing and see who will be the Spring Thunder champion.

Our first pairing tonight is Rick, winner of Race #5, driving a 383 c.i. Hilborn injected small block Chevy powered 1941 Willys pick-up for the Johnson Racing and Whoopee Parlor team.

VS

Last weekís winner, Kevin "IAracefan" Sassman, driving his 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Funny Car for the Uncle Verde racing team.

Posted Image

Both drivers do their burnouts, trying to heat their tires, and stage. Rick roars of with a 1.8 second lead. Kevin hits a super light and gives chase. Kevin is able to catch the Wiiys in time. Kevin will go to Round 2.

Has a checkered past.

Stand on it....brakes only slow yoou down.

Both stage, after warming their tires. Ruth roars away with a full 2 second head start. Big Red thunders after her and is able to nip her for the win. Big Red will go to Round 2.

Up next is Emily, winner of Race #6, driving an ex-Landy Automotive Research, 440 powered, 1968 Dodge Dart GTS for her grandmother Agnus Cudahy.

Posted Image

VS

The winner of Races #1 and #2, L. Edward "ET" Foot, driving the gorgeous front engined dragster Dynamic Performance Special for the Historic Racing Associates team.

Posted Image

The drivers warm their tires and stage. Emily thunders off with a 2.6 second head start. "ET" cuts a good light, and roars after her and runs her down. "ET" is going into round 2.

Dave "Chargin Charlie" Bayer, winner of Race #3, driving the twin blown Olds powered, four wheel driven Corvair called Unsafe At Any Speed, for the AMB team.

Posted Image

Both drivers do their burnouts and stage. Bobby cuts a perfect light as he roars away with a 1.3 second advantage. Dave seems a little slow and does not catch Bobby in time. Bobby will move into round 2.

This brings up our last pair of Round 1. Paul D. "Speed Merchant" Smith driving his beautiful blown Hemi powered "Terrible Toppolino" Fiat Fuel Coupe for the Historic Racing Associates team.

After the smoke cleared, the drivers stage. Speed thunders away with a 1.5 second lead. Wisdonm waits for a light but is slow to react. Speed hangs on for the win. Speed is our last driver going into Round 2.

The win at Bristol comes as a welcome relief to the crew here at HRA. After ET's 2-in-a-row mini-streak at the beginning of the season I suspect we got a little too big for our collective boots. What followed was a seemingly endless string of early eliminations or near-misses for both our cars. Now if we can get L.Ed Foot to give Dr. Smith a few pointers on the art of elimination racing maybe we can get the Terrible Topolino to show its true potential. It's the second season for Speed and that PhD of his still doesn't count for much on either end of the strip! If he hadn't written such a great book on Top Fuel racing (High Peformance by Paul D. Smith), well...

Thanks to the whole SFDT traveling show for making competing in the Southern Fryed so much fun.
Keep on buildin'

What a beautiful pair or dragsters. rrr Way to put the Foot down, ET. fbr

Yep, I was slow and I think Titus (Lafontaine) just missed a bit on the set up. I try to help, but don't know a lot about this sort of car, and he's pretty young, but once in a while we hit it right and it gets pretty fun!!!! :)))
