Corvette Funny Car; Southern Fried Drag Series

For my 2016 Southern Fried Drag car I've had this crazy idea to stretch a '63 Corvette onto a funny
car frame. I've had an AMT kit for awhile, and since I built a stock version several years ago the second one is going to be turned into a drag car. Here is my inspiration photo, I hope to come up
with something close to this.

I found a frame on Ebay, it is from an Arnie Beswick Judge funny car. It was just the frame and
suspension, so I used wheels and slicks for my parts box. The Corvette kit comes with a big block
and blower set up so that will work perfectly. Once I had the frame complete, I was able to determine
the wheel base length and started chopping on the Vette. I ended up adding 5/8 inch of styrene to get
the right length.

The AMT kit also comes with 2 hoods, so I grafted them together for a longer hood. Once I had the
body sitting in the right place I was able to build new roll bars from styrene rod. Then it was on to lots
of putty and sanding. These photos are of round 3 of sanding, lots more to go to get it smoothed out.

Here is a comparison of the two bodies together, the stock Vette I built about 20 years ago,
Quite a different look between the two.
I originally thought I'd build a canopy over the driver like the inspiration photo, but I'm kinda
likin' the open look for the driver.

Really nice proportions. I didn't expect that lengthening it would look so nice. A canopy would look more finished but the open roll hoop looks more "mechanical". The tonneau cover is nice and crisp so either way will it look good.

Looking forward to more, more, more...
Keep on buildin'

After what seems like months of sanding and priming, then adding more putty and starting the sanding all over again I finally have the body reasonably smooth. There are a few imperfections
but this is as good as it's going to get.
I have a base coast of silver sprayed on the body, soon to be followed by Lime Green Metallic.
Thanks for looking!
