![]() RPM 200, SNRA Late Model Race #8, Rockford Speedway, Loves Park, Ill. July 11, 2015, 1/4 Mile high banked paved oval. A Long Deserved Win for that Other, Other Kevin! Historic Rockford Speedway. A Chicagoland and Northern Illinois Favorite. Playground of Shear, Lensing, O'Brion, Hanley, Trickle, Sauter, Detjens, Reffener, and Watson, not to mention Phillips, Senneker, Howe, Maier, Jusola. And the SNRA made its yearly trip there with its old veterans like Wasson, Loggins, Lynch, Ross, Bayer, Loggins and Desjardins as well as all the young guns. It was hot, the beer was flowing, the Barbeques smoking, and time trials turned out like this, with Rocky ford experience on the front row, and maybe trouble brewing on the 5th Row, lol?: Gordy was quickest in time trials and had a good day overall, too.Row 1 Gordon Miller 67 Chevelle #26 Dave Bayer 73 Dart Swinger #12 Row 2 Canzady Loggins 77 Camaro #51 Kevin Wasson 65 Fairlane #7 Row 3 Dylan Kelly 70 Chevelle #60 Marky Desjardins Jr. 70 GTO #52 Row 4 Dannyboy Lynch 69 Falcon #61 Dave Porky Henley 76 Dart Sport #43 Row 5 Serena Hytla 74 Charger #4H Bill Hytla 76 Malibu Laguna #0 Row 6 Carl Ross 70 Chevelle #27 Ricky Johnson 69 Torino #49 Row 7 Lee Spud Loggins 77 Camaro #96 Jim Hondo Mullis 64 GTO #2 Row 8 Don Wisdonm Mueller 64 Belevedere #3M Presley Loggins 77 Camaro #29 Row 9 Kevin Sassman 67 Nova #4K Terry Beckham Jr. 62 Chevy II #1 Row 10 Chris Bulldog Carmen 76 Dart Sport #4 Kevin Loggins 67 GTX #60K Row 11 Amy Girl Conn 76 Capri #9 Dr. Kerry Ingram, 65 Nova #3 Row 12 Trevor Kelley 76 Malibu Laguna #76 Brian Conn 70 Mustang #01 Row 13 JLog Loggins 69 Camaro #24 The race: Things began with a moment of silence for long time SNRA supporter and grand marshall for every Alabama race ever run in the SNRA, the great Kenny the Snake Stabler, QB of the Oakland Raiders who passed this week. The American and Canadian anthems played, Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler threw the green and things were underway. Gordy led the first 20 laps and looked sharp in the big Chevelle when he began a duel with Dave Charlie Bayer in his Dart Kit car which ultimately ended with Charlie ahead on lap 25 and Gordy clinging to his bumper. Rapidly moving forward were the Conn's as the Hytlas showed their respect for each other staying out of trouble. On the 56th lap Charlie was moving alongside to put a lap on LilSpud Kevin Loggins' GTX when his dry sump pump let go and the two ended up in the wall and out of commission for the day. Charlie was out of the Dart and up to Kenny's window as was Daddy Spud who stopped at the scene seconds later but the little guy was ok, it was just a horrible incident of bad luck for a rookie who has been very fast. LilSpud joined his dad's pit afterwards and some pretty good results were achieved. Dylan ran will all day and lead for a while. As the race continued after the yellow came back out and then the green on lap 60 Gordy was off and flying. A number of cars pitted however, including the 4 of Kevin Sassman and with 4 new tires and a wedge adjustment he was really flying! By the time the second tangle of the race occurred involving Serena, Marky, Bill Hytla, Wisdonm, and Canzady, eliminating those cars but with only bumps and bruises to the drivers, on lap 120 he was up to 5th. A few laps later when the green returned on lap 125, Dylan Kelly who had avoided the carnage began pressing Gordy and on lap 141 he got around on the inside and into the lead. Spud Loggins and Kevin Wasson eventually followed. On the 170th lap, the fans became aware of what the other Kevin, Sassman, already knew. He had the car to beat, and after an 8 lap run in which he passed Gordy on the top, Kevin Wasson on the bottom, Spud on the top and finally Dylan on the bottom he was into the lead. Dylan kept things well together to mount a charge in the last 5 laps but he could get no closer than two car lengths at the end, and Kevin Sassman who was clearly fast but suffered bad luck all year finally defeated it, and SNRA winner once again after a long drought. And our winner, the other other Kevin! Next week, its up to Maple Leaf land for the reopening of Marky Desjarins' home track, the legendary Checker Flag International Raceway. Feature finish: 1. #4K Kevin Sassman 67 Nova SS 2. #60 Dylan Kelly 70 Chevelle SS 3. #96 Spud Loggins 77 Camaro 4. #7 Kevin Wasson 65 Fairlane 500 5. #26 Gordon Miller 67 Chevelle SS 6. #61 The super fabulous Dannyboy Lynch 69 Falcon GT 7. #2 Jim Hondo Mullis 64 GTO 8. #9 Amy Girl Conn 76 Capri 9. #01 Brian Conn 70 Mustang Grande 10. #49 Ricky Johnson 69 Torino 11. #43 Dave Porky Henley 76 Dart Sport 12. #29 Presley Loggins 77 Camaro 13. #4T Trevor Kelley 76 Malibu Laguna 14. #1 Terry Beckham Jr. 62 Chevy II 15. #24 Jennifer JLog Loggins 69 Camaro Z28 16. #4 Chris Bulldog Carmen 76 Dart Sport 17. #3 Kerry Ingram 65 Nova 18. #27 Carl da Bugman Ross 70 Chevelle Deluxe 19. #4H Serena Hytla 74 Charger 20. #52 Marky Desjardins 70 GTO 21. #3M Wisdonm Mueller 64 Belvedere 22. #51 Canzady Loggins 77 Camaro 23. #0 Bill Hytla 76 Malibu Laguna 24. #12 Dave CC Bayer 73 Dart Swinger 25. #60K Kevin Lil Spud Loggins 67 GTX |

Congrats to Kevin and Kerry, sorry your experience at the place didn't turn out for you. Mine looked like it would pay off in qualifying, but hey, in the end it could hardly have been worse. That's racin. But its better than the NASCAR race was. We could win again next week, have bad luck again, or just miss the set-up or miss something in the engine and just run crappy. You are still very much in the running.Dave B. |

...First and foremost, congratulations to last weeks big winner Dave "Chargin Charlie" Bayer and this weeks champ Kevin Sassman!! I am still trying to get these asphalt tracks figured out as well as having to make pit stops....racing dirt tracks and not having to make pit stops , under normal conditions, is a huge difference from what I am doing now. I have been trying to stay behind and fallow Amy on the track the past couple of races. She has more experience with making pit stops under Green flag conditions from her road course days and we are trying to develop a strategy for later in the season where we can work together on the track and coordinate pit stops. We are continuing to make adjustments to both cars as far front and rear set ups go....different parts and pieces...figuring out what works and what doesn't. |

No worries Dave, I tried to use the figure eight to get in the lead but got cut off at the exit into turn one. That made me fall back in the pack and I just couldn't get the nudge to get ahead!!!! Rockford can be a bit tricky to get around!!! |

All right! The team is pumped up for our first win of the year. Hope this puts an end to the bad luck for a while. Thanks to our neighbors in Illinois for the hospitality, I always enjoy the trip across the Mississippi River from Iowa. I have to admit the start of the race had me worried with Jay Cutler throwing the green flag. Usually when he throws things they get intercepted.
