SNRA 2015 Race #4 Pelican 150, Louisiana State Fairgrounds Speedway, Shreveport, La. May 30, 2015.

Qualifying
There had been a lot of rain in the region lately and to say the newly paved track was in a green condition would be an understatement. It was slick through time trials and as a result, the properly geared and set up 6 cylinder Chevelle of Carl Ross took the pole position with ease. By the same token, rookie Serena Hytla was second in time in her heavy Dodge followed closely by Trevor Kelly's Laguna. The aberration was the small high powered Mustang of Brian Conn who posted the 4th quickest time with some great driving and a good set up. Canzady Loggins rounded out the top 5 with her red Camaro. On the back side of things, Dave Chargin Charlie Bayer came into turn 3 way to hot and spun on his lap, starting 23 with Presley Loggins alongside in shotgun, not able to fire the Camaro for time trials. Come race time the car did start and she was able to take the green but the motor quit on lap 5, victim of a broken timing chain.

As skies were again threatening the trophy dash for the evening was cancelled and the feature was flagged off at 6:30 by Grand Marshall, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees.
Carl led the first 5 laps at which time Trevor Kelley pushed his Laguna past on the outside, followed closely by Serena Hytla's Charger and he held the top spot until lap 45 when he spun and Serena took the lead after a brief 2 lap caution.

Posted Image Trevor was tough in the early going on the green track.

Soon the track started coming in though, and the last three cars to start on the inside began to move forward noticeably, Kevin Sassman leading the way for Gordy Mueller and Charlie. Famous and fabulous Canadian Frenchy racer Dannyboy Lynch also was making patient progress on the outside at this point from his 12th place staring position with last week's winner Hondo Mullis close behind. On lap 72 Danny boy took the lead from the impressive S. Hytla. By lap 90 however, Gordy Miller had brought his Chevelle up to the Falcon's bumper and on lap 101 he went by with Charlie coming along. Lap after lap Charlie tried to get inside Gordy, but the top grove had developed a good coat of rubber and Gordy had guessed the set up perfectly. On lap 120 Kevin Loggins who had done a great job keeping his Plymouth close to the top 5 had a tire suddenly go down and he and Hondo who had come up to 7th met and collected the wall. Neither driver was hurt nor did they do great damage but could not effect repairs in time to get back onto the track in the 20 laps that were left. Marky Desjardins who was again racing to the front ran over some debris and had to pit for new rubber on this caution.
On lap 128 the green was back out and Gordy continued to hold the upper hand over Charlie on the outside. Charlie eventually started to lose a little grip and as Gordy pulled out to about a 4 car cushion at the checkers, Dannyboy was able to edge back by for second at the line. Charlie's kit car was third, with Serena's Charger hanging on to fourth in one of the great drives of the day. Porky Henley with a newly rebuilt chassis rounded out the top 5 in his Kit car. The second 5 went to the also impressive Brian Conn who kept his Mustang near the top all day, Spud, daughter Canzady in their Camaros, ever steady Widsdonm in the Hemi Plymouth and Kevin Sassman in his Nova, starting to come back to form.

Posted Image Gordy Miller, long time enthusiastic SNRA racer brings home a long deserved and overdue win!

Gordy & DB came a long way to get up to the front.

How about that Serena..... top 5 car all night !! WTG

The right side of the old GTO may not be pretty for the next race, but we'll get it fixed up...... Got a few weeks to work on it.
