Raced one of those Chevy's last season, won one feature, but didn't feel right sitting behind the wheel of an off-brand. So this year the boys in the shop all decided to crawl through the junkyard and find a real racer. After some judicious searching we came across this '69 Torino body which should wrap nicely around that magic 427 laying in the backroom of the shop.
I am beginning with a junkyard build I picked up at a car show. So far I have some of the cage work done, have back-halved the stock chassis, which has been cross-braced on the underneath. I have also removed the MacPherson strut front suspension in favor of an A-arm assembly. Still have a lot of tubing to bend and plenty of interior sheetmetal work. I will be running a leaf-spring rear suspension, since that is the best rear axle I could find in the parts bin.

I am hoping to build this one for the paved tracks and another Ford body style for the dirt tracks; however that is all going to depend upon my ability to satisfy the "boss's" desire for fresh vegetables from the garden> PGUP
Either way these will be the tires I am going to use.

I sure am glad some of you boys are building Fords, it gives Curt something to aim at during the races with the MK VI Chevelle we are finishing up. Use plenty of armor plate, the Chevelle has it plus an oak loaded bumper for a little cushion. Curt is a Chevy guy, here is where he spent most of his time:

In response to YOUR benign blathering........Hanging out at the Chevy dealership doesn't make him a great driver anymore than me hanging out at city hall making me a great politician.......See the U.S.A today in your Chevrolet, but leave it home on race day.

Finally, someone that can talk a little racing B.S. LOL!!!!!!!!! I think you and I are going to have a GOOD time this season Brian! I never called Curt a driver, he's an AIMER. Or maybe I should say, Panzer Gunner.

No problem on the pics we discussed, whenever you find the time. By the way, do you know where the Chevy sign is located? Hint: South and East of Rolla.

Aiming and being able to catch it so you can hit it are two different things. maddr

Heck Rick, that aint no problem. Curt sometimes runs out of talent in the turns and ends up heading the wrong way. He will find you face to face on the next lap!! That is, if the Ford lasts another lap. r:r

Dodges? Mopars? You mean they still make those? I always thought DODGE meant Damaged Obstacles Don't Generate Excitement. You should get a Studebaker so you can at least run close to the front. sleepy

Pretty brave talk from a warmed over Fiat. Catching a Dodge is like catching a cold, It takes no effort, its always in your way, slowing you down and with the right shots in the rear, it goes away.

Got a little more done on this short track beastie:

Posted Image

I need to do some touch up paint on the cage: I added some pieces after I painted it and a couple of the joints came apart. sm2

Posted Image

Notice the shock mounting pegs on the bottom of the A-Arms.

Posted Image

Scratchbuilt shocks - they are fully adjustable; however that will not be so when I get the shafts painted, they will then be too tight to fit. So I will have to adjust them to fit the chassis, glue the shafts in place then paint them. mm1
Posted Image

My Scratchbuilt distributor: aluminum tubing, strapping wire and a short piece of shrink sleeve over the outside with some heat applied to r-o-l-l it over the top edge of the aluminum tubing. May not be a FAT distributor, but it will work on this build.

Hey Rick, if its not too late, try paper clip wire for the shock shafts. I use it when I scratch a shock because I don't have to paint it. I just paint the shock body and eye at top and I can adjust shock to the length I need when mounting. Check the shocks on the SNRA Nova build, I did them that way. I used evergreen .093 tube for shocks.

Thanks for the tip, but the tubing I am using is a bit too small for a paper clip. Although I do have some brass rod that will fit; maybe I could polish some of that.

With all the trash talking going on before the SNRA series ever starts, As the 1st SNRA champion I may just have to come out of retirement and get another Dodge out of the stable and join in the fun and show some of these "Newbies" how to get the job done. And Rick your build looks good too. A lot of true modeling skills going on there. :))) :))) :)))

Mike you guys are lucky that Dave keeps the beasts out of the series. I have a big block Chevy Camaro wedge on the bench now. Should be ready for the 2025 season at the speed I build r:r

1st SNRA Series Champ? What about the rest of them Speedy? Come on out and play, I am curious what a past Champ looks like with his door panel folded around his ears.
