It has been a long and difficult month and a half getting the finishing touches on this racer. I got the sheetmetal hung on the chassis and took it over to Sylvester at the paint shop. He said a couple of days, which turned into a couple of weeks. Seems he had forgot about the second honeymoon he had planned, and was gone for ten days. Finally got it back to my shop, did some more fabrication work and then hauled it down to my sign painter Beauregard Sherman (claims to be kin to that scoundrel General what came down here and burned Atlanta). Anyway, he said 4-5 days because of the extra graphics of my sponsor. I was pushing the start of the season but it had to be done. Got a call two days later from Flo, Beau's live-in girlfriend, telling me had gone back up north and no one knew where he was. Seems he had come home only to find Flo's Blue Persian cat having an afternoon snack with Beau's beloved twin goldfish Hilda and Matilda. When Flo got home the house was covered in blue cat hair, her cat was completely bald, and Beau was scratched to smithereens. Finally had to go to the Magistrates office and get them to go to Beau's shop and release my car. However, politics being the way they are, and I am not a member of the ruling party; it took almost a full week to get a judge to approve the order. By now I was already three weeks into racing season and pretty miffed. Finally got the car out, took it back to the shop for some final fabrication work and found another sign painter. He said he could do the job in 3-4 days but it would cost more ( hope I can win some features to cover his bill). By now I am four weeks into the season, but I do have my car ready to hit the track. Won't be racing for points, but I do hope to pull in some feature wins. Here she is.1969 Torino: Chassis by the Wood Brothers (Fred and George) a modified Torino chassis to resemble a modified Galaxy chassis 427 FE Ford Engine by Creeb - the most hardheaded FORD builder I know Owned by "Bad Dawg Racing" Driver - Ricky Johnson (owner and founder of BDR) Crew: Creeb Homer Odell (posthumously, sure do miss you) Little Tommy (although he is a MOPAR man, he can change a tire with the best of 'em) Sponsor: CHEERWINE a legend in the Carolinas ![]() ![]() Competition's most often seen view ![]() ![]() I'm going to haul her out to a local track tonight to give her a shakedown run. Then I will load up the crew and head out to Peoria, Ill for next weeks race. See y'all there! |

The new Ford looks really nice, Ricky I'm sure it'll be the best looking one at Peoria since the rest of us have already gotten our cars "broken in..." Hey, if you bring this ol' Carolina raised boy a couple cases of Cheerwine, we'll bring some extra Memphis BBQ for you....... (Yea, I know, Carolina BBQ is still the best) See you folks this weekend. |

Hondo, sounds like a plan. May have to stick it in the seat of the racer, the magistrate still hasn't released my hauler so I am going to have to use a Uhaul rent a trailer and the pickup bed is going to be full. And yeah, Carolina BBQ cannot be beat . Now before any of you Texans want to chime in, ketchup and Texas Pete does not constitute BBQ sauce. A real BBQ sauce begins with vinegar, some tomato sauce/juice, maybe some of Lynchburg's finest liquid, and other stuff which will remain secret. rrr I will be ready to get a few knocks and dings in this fresh paint - IF ANYONE CAN CATCH ME!!
