Thanks to DJ i have this project going for the jalopy build. I hope it's going in the right direction because i have never done one of these. I started by cutting the fenders off and glued the inner parts back into the body. Cut the floor off of the frame but still need to clean that up a little. Have the engine halves glued together. Not sure yet how i will cut up the hood? I would also like to thank Ron for the pictures because i would still not know where to start without them.

KEVIN..........

r2d2 one of the "things" that they "used to do" with those "little bit newer bodies" like the 1940 model cars, was to trim the hood "right under the trim line" all the way around, which made them MUCH LIGHTER and easier to take off........... (like CARL had mentioned).............

GONNA BE NEAT, I CAN JUST TELL!!!!!!!!!! rlr

Thanks for the help Carl & DJ. I cut it there then. The kit hood has the line on it in that area that will make it easier. Were the hoods cut back any from the front of the car .?. I thought about taking some off in that area also. Not sure if it would look better with the point of the hood left on or not.
Should have a cage in it sometime over the weekend. Got to go through my 4X4 kits to get a 5 gallon gas can for the gas tank. Going to use a 1/35 can from my military kits for the water overflow catch can. Will update soon.

Glad to be able to help, what you can do is cut the hood with the point left on if you dont like it you can always cut it off.

Most cars Ive seen had it cut off at the radiatior but do it how you like remember its your build and all these cars were built alittle different.
I know this is going to be a good looking race car

Carl i hope this was what you were talking about. I put on a flat red paint for the first color. Still designing the cage.

I don't know where the weekend went but it went fast. I just finished the drivers cage. I not sure how correct it is but it fits very well when the body is all the way down. Thanks guys for the support on this. It helps alot when you don't know what you are doing

ALL RIGHT KEVIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These "early generation" racecars used some RATHER SIMPLE cages (on the ones that "used them")........... GREAT JOB, LOOKS VERY "ERA CORRECT" !!!!!!! (That would even satisfy the "rivet counters"!!!!!!!) fbr fbr :))) :))) (Not that anyone's countin' rivets........heck, they didn't even USE rivets back then !!!!!!!!) rr21 rr21

GLAD TO SEE YOU ENJOYING THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (it's ALWAYS FUN to try building "something different"!!!!!!!!)

Thanks fellows .cc. . Added a few more bars to the chassis today. Still have to add the nerf bars yet. For those that know are the bars up front correct? I have been going to ron's pictures for when i get to the next step in the build. Seat mount was unclear as to how the mount the darn thing. If it is not right i can cut it out and start it over.

I am getting ready to start the motor now and have a question about the exhaust pipes. For the nonhotrod motor can i use a pipe for each cylinder or do i stay with all cylinders into one down pipe?

Kevin, The bars are looking good. Hoop in front of rad looks good. Might want to cut the bumper horns off and add a pc. of pipe for a front and rear bumper. Could use Channel Iron and attach it directly to the horns. Seat mount is right, you could add 1 more. Single pipes are good or 3 into 1. Both would be correct. I really like where this one is going. I have added a few pics of `40s to my early reference section.

Might want to check some bumpers there.
LOOKING GOOD Kevin! :))) :))) :)))

KEVIN.............

The rules for the "TRADITIONAL" JALOPY (on the exhaust) say : "ANY STYLE OF "PERIOD CORRECT" EXHAUST ALLOWED................

To "clearify".............Many tracks only ran the "stock manifolds" with "home-made" lead-off pipes, HOWEVER, there were probably JUST AS MANY that "allowed" some "home-brewed" exhaust. That would be the "single pipe per cylinder" that you see on MANY of the old cars of that era...........

They DID NOT have the "elaborate headers" of today's style, and were NOT a bunch of "fancy" headers with collectors, etc.

Look thru a "few of the pictures", find something you like, and GO FOR IT !!!!!! 12r 12r

Your bar work looks real good the only thing that I would do is add a cross bar about half way up in front of the radiator to give some protection other then that it looks good

Ok Ron, took the masters advice and did both things you said. Cut the horns back. I didn't attach the angle iron bumper box yet so if it is not right let me know. Added the second seat support and braced them together. I still need to clean it all up.

Carl, does that look any better or did i put the bar in the wrong spot?

On the motor i will stay to the stock manifold with one pipe going down but will take both pipes out to the left side of car.
