Hello Gator and all-- That is a beautiful Dieringer Fairlane, and your backdrop is very cool also! I thought you may be interested in a pretty rare pic of Darel on May 25, 1975 at the World 600. It was probably close to his last ride, if not his last. He was running pretty well but was overcome with exhaustion. Benny Parsons had dropped out with a blown engine earlier that day and relieved him to run that Laguna to a 12th place finish. The car was owned by my former employer at the time in the blue suit, Ken Friez and the young guy crouching is his son Brad. Unfortunately Mr. Friez died a few months ago. Another reason why this day is noteable in history as we beat Dale Earnhardt in his first Winston cup start driving an Ed Negre Dodge!Later---DAC |

Hi Gator, I really don't have much old NASCAR photography. I may have a few Poloriods from the 1974 Firecracker 400 as that was the first Cup race I ever attended. Here is a pic of the sister car of the #59 at the Daytona 500 in 1975. It was driven by Herschel McGriff. I sure wish it had not gotten water damaged in a move many years ago. We never got to another Cup race till '81 after that. |
