Here's where I'm starting this season at. Finnishing where I left off last. A local hero car/driver at Motor City Speedway in the early '50s. The Beste's #15 that won a record setting 119 wins with the same car !!!! I've had the opportunity to talk over the phone to both, the driver and builder (Ed Beste builder, Jack Goodwin driver). I'm hoping it comes out well enough to send then "Honorary Packages".

Do you think they used schedule 80 or 160 pipe back then?

Howdy all ! Well, we're making some progress (pics below). Just a few repairs, fab a hood, and tone it down with some dullcote, and add some dirt. The body and fram were from the AMT 1925 T-Rod kit. The grill shell is an upside down, laid back and extended '32. Everything else is either Eary Years Resin, Early Racing Classics or parts bin. My first attempt at heating sheet stock for the hood failed :( (really I just found a new way NOT to do it! I'm thinking of making a bondo plug, waxing it, and laying on some epoxy over nylon screen. r2d2 I'll let ya know if that works.
I tried to find some scale pipe used in railroading, but couldn't find the right size for the rollbar. I ended up using PVC. Probably would have been as safe !

WHEWHOO !!! I'm ready for a good nap ! The "Beste #15" is DONE. I have to say this was one model that taught me alot, and was very satisfying. I hope it's original builder ( 1:1 ) and driver like it. I still have to put packages together for them.As earlier I mentioned, I made a bondo plug for the hood. Rather than the epoxy I was going to experiment with, I used it as a form to heat form the plastic. It's amazing what a new haet gun can do ! fbr I wrapped the old one in newspaper when I through it out. I was that imbarrassed ! Not finding anything in my parts bin for the bubble, I fabbed one from fake finger nails r:r If you ever try this send a female to the store............... it reminded me of buying my first condoms, except the looks were even stranger !
I thought it deserved a decent photo shoot so Saturday between watching the paint dry I built a small dio too.
Hope ya'll enjoy it !!! I know I will !!!
