Hopefully I can see this through to completion, waiting on some parts to arrive for another project that I have to finish. Will give it a good go though.

I threw a frame together from 2mm plastic rod, found some old sprintcar parts and I have some body parts from an old AMT sprinter, plus some bits from an Edmunds kit. Engine is going to be from a Revell sprinter turned into a Ford using AMT Nascar heads, fuel injected. I have some resin wheels and tyres. Front end is old school early Ford, rear end is on torsion bars from the Revell spintcar. Hardest bit is going to be fabricating the body, top of the roof is Edmunds with the hole filled, nose is AMT spintcar, the rest will nearly all be plasticard.
Frame is painted since these photos, so I can carry on and get the engine and other mechanicals finished.

Now these (the build "something from nothin' ") type of projects are just SO INTERESTING!!!!!!!!!!! I love them, because, they involve the MOST CHALLENGE, and require the MOST THOUGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT START!!!!!!!!!!!! :))) :)))

Some progress, and a change in direction. The great thing about parts box builds is what you may find lurking in the depths of the box.
I was looking at some old modified photos and spotted a car running a Fiat Topolino body.............and guess what, I had a casting reject sitting doing nothing, and the flaw was in the bit I was going to cut out, so I am going with the Fiat body.

A bit of trimming on the body has got it fitting really well, just need to decide what to do at the rear, leave the fuel tank exposed, or make a cover.
The rear wheels are what I will be running, the fronts will be changed.
At the moment it looks like it is ready for the dragstrip, but not for much longer.

I played around with a few things for the rear of the body as a fuel tank cover and ended up with what is on the car now, the top acts as another wing, should help traction. I fabbed up a top wing, but it is splitting at the front, so will have to make another. I think the size and stance is about right.
Headers are underway, I am bringing them forward from the engine and around the body, will exit over the top of the rear wheels when they are finished.

Color will be Red or Yellow, depends on what number decals I can find, but that is a way off yet.

Quick update, not a lot more done. Headers are finished and I have sorted out some better front wheels and rubber.
Now to finish off the cockpit, fit a radiator, and start thinking about paint.

Fitted the seat, fabbed up a steering box and a radiator, front bumper is from the Edmunds kit, still have to make a rear bumper. Cut the body for access at the front and fitted the front wheels.
Now it is time to prep the body parts for paint, problem is, it is mid-winter down here, too cold and damp right at the moment to paint. I will just have to hope there is a fine patch next weekend.

Well amazingly our fickle weather changed from rain, wind, and cold to a very nice cloudless winters day with bright sunshine, temperature is still low, but warm enough to throw some primer on the body and then some paint a few hours later.
Just got to let the paint gas out, put on some graphics and assemble.

By the way, the screen I found in packs in a very well stocked Model Railway shop, along with lots of other neat little bits for detailing.

Well that was a kind of fun build that filled in some time while I waited for some parts to arrive.

Here it is ready to race.
