No, we are not talking Nascar here, think of a Jalopy racer from the fifties, add a lot more bumper work and you have what are called stockcars in New Zealand.

This is a replica of a real car that was originally built around 1957, the model is built as the car was in 1961.
Body is a Flintstone 36 Ford Flatback on a Revellogram 37 Ford truck chassis and running gear.

These are probably my favourite models to build, I have done four or five others and there are two new ones about to hit my workbench any day.

GREAT JOB GAVIN!!!!!!!!!!! I have ALWAYS LIKED the different racecars from "across the pond"!!!!!! Our guys may "think they know" what "rubbing" is all about, but the different cars that your folks raced, were some SERIOUS FULL-CONTACT racers!!!!!!!!!!!

ps----(dig out some more of these & POST THEM!!!!!!!!)

Thanks guys, yes these and jalopies can be real fun builds. Here are two more that I have photos of, both replicas of real cars that raced in the mid/late fifties.

Here are some stockcar models built by my mate Gary, all are replicas of cars that raced at one of our local tracks in the fifties. Gary built the models about 20 years ago.

Posted Image

These ones are models of a team of 8 New Zealand stockcars that raced in Australia in late 1958. The #6 car was driven by Gary's Dad, as was the yellow sedan at the back.

Posted Image

Now what is really cool is that not only has Gary built models of his Dad's cars, he also found and restored the real #6 car and races it with other historic cars about 6 times every summer. Gary's Dad was born in the USA and was a GI in the 2nd World War and stayed in NZ and married a NZ girl after the war, sadly he passed away about five years ago, but did get to have a drive in his old stockcar after it was restored.

I think I lost a lot of those photos when my computer crashed a couple of years ago, will see what I can dig out to post.

In the meantime here are a couple of photos of my mate Gary with his historic stockcar and his cabinet of models on display at our local Speedshow at the end of last year.

Looks like I had better put some photos of our NZ Historic Stockcars in the 1:1 forum for you all.

Here are some photos of another of my old NZ stockcar builds, this car was first built as a stockcar in 1954 and rebuilt to how I modelled it in 1957. Never saw it again after mid 1959, must have gone to the scrap man. 34 Ford 2 doors were rare in NZ, probably no more than a dozen ever came here, but it was worth nothing in 1954, today it would be worth close to $100,000 in original condition.

The model really needs a bit of a rebuild to make some of the bar work a bit more realistic, and some more detail adding to it.

That is just TOO NEAT!!!!!!! I've always had "an interest" in racecars from all over the world, and the cars from "your neck of the woods" were always facinating!!!!!!

You did a SPECTACULAR JOB on the build!!!!!!!!! :))) :)))
