Hey Paul, about the only thing that I can add is that this was obviously a deluxe model, note the beauty ring on the right front wheel. No matter what, it will be great build. By the way, the driver's name wasn't Bono was it? Karl

Just got a little bit of info on this car:

"David, I made that picture after U2 was destroyed in a flip in about 1954. We were in the process of taking off any parts that were not bent to build a new car. So far as I know that's the only photo of it. The car came originally from Pensacola Florida as M2. The driver was a navy pilot stationed there and the owner /mechanic lived here in Jackson Ms where the picture was made at his home. It was a 34 Ford and what made it unique was the way the passenger door was out to allow easier entry/exit. The roll bar was made of 4 inch angle iron and was only behind the driver seat. It was white with a blue number. It wrecked one night after the race had finished. A car stopped on the track and Gene did not see it in time to avoid it. He flipped twice and knocked off most of the front end including the radiator and bumpers. It never ran again. "

Mr Brown has sent me some more info that I would like to share on this car:

"As I told you in previous e-mail, my photo of U2 is the only one I know of. The car owner, Lee Capton, died some years ago, and his family no longer lives at the place the photo was taken. John Gorday (who is my cousin by the way) sent me a photo of the U2 model. Looks like you captured it pretty well, including the cut out door. Lee and Gene had another U2 before that one, a black '37 Ford. It was too heavy so they got the M2, with a couple of brush stokes, changed the number to U2 and were planning to make some other changes in it when it was destroyed. After that, they got another 34 Ford, which Gene made #13. He said his luck could not get any worse. There are a couple of photos of it on the website too. It was yellow and black, all brush painted by hand by Gene. It was later involved with a fatal accident of another driver and Lee and Gene quit racing altogether."

Those angle iron roll bars get me!!! They're very realistic!! There's a '37 Ford Sedan Stock Car from Long Is. that a guy brings to Airborne. He goes around in front of the mods as their pace car. That has angle iron bars. Also, my Dad's old racer had 'em too...Great looking car!!!!!!!!!! jsm Neal
