For this build I am working on a Rat Trap Vega. Got some painting done on Tuesday. Got the frame, front suspension, front bar, firewall, floor, and rear panel done. Paint didn't turn out real good, but then I figure these types of cars wouldn't have super slick paint jobs anyway. Kinda has a "we just shot some paint on it in the off season" look to it. Also tried to make some dents and dings in the front bar, will have to take a close up sometime. Thanks for looking!

And to keep them all together here is an initial mock up shot of the car:

Thanks Carl. No, the tires, wheels, and hubs are from J&S Resisns, his DT-01's, I think. I am going to try and use the wheel backs from an AMT Monte Carlo NASCAR, along with the disc brakes from that kit.

Well, I did manage to get a little bit more done last night, mainly some more painting. Looked at the rear leafs this morning, missed the seam in a couple of spots, so will have to work with them some more.

Here is a close up of the rear end. I kinda like the colors on there, but have no idea if they are close to prototypical or not:

And here are my first attempts at making the headers for this one. Need to work on shaping the collectors, but am fairly pleased overall. would definitely be easier if I had the chassis done and the motor and heads sitting in there. What I am considering from here is making the piece that bolts to the head, and drill out the holes into the head itself. That will allow me to leave the tubes a bit long for adjustments and mounting purposes. I know I could leave off the flange at the head, but I like the look. I am hoping to get them real close, then do some final adjusting once they are on the car. Thanks for looking.

Well, I got the rest of the roll bars painted today, along with the wheels and hubs. Used a cast aluminum paint for the hubs, and a chrome silver for the wheels. Not sure I like them, and when I mocked up this one for the picture I found that the paint was still way, way soft! :( And it had been several hours since I finished. Oh well, I can either paint it again, or if I decide to leave them this color I may go and paint the outer rim a different color.

There are a few blemishes, but I didn't want to mess with the other 3 after I handled this one. When they are good and dry I'll take pics. The blemishes almost look to me like they are used wheels, just cleaned and polished in the off season. Thanks for looking.

Well, I did a little work on the Vega today. I had decided against running brake lines, but then changed my mind. It would have definitely been easier to drill some of the holes and do some of the mounting before I assembled the chassis! Here are the results of my first attempt at running brake lines. The junction blocks seem too big to me, and am totally unsure about the front lines. But, overall I am satisfied with them. Thanks for looking.

Well, I think the chassis is finished for the most part. Got the brake lines ran, and the fuel line. Realized after I finished the fuel line that I did not add the electric pump I made! Junction blocks are most likely too big, but they'll do for this one.

Still waiting on the Hoosier transfers I ordered to come in. Starting to get a little concerned.

And the best part, I FINALLY got some paint on the body! Really, really pleased with how it went on. There is one hunk of snot on the driver's side, something floating around the bench was just magically attracted to it. Should hide under the number, and there is a dry spray area that should buff out. And somebody who got too impatient to look at it (o)(o) left a partial finger print on the roof! A big thanks to everyone for getting me to push myself and work on my painting. Am very pleased with the color. Now to wait a bit and attempt the stripe! Thanks for looking.

Thanks Chris! After mocking it up, I think I should have enalrged the rear openings just a bit. The body wants to rest on the tires. Not sure if I will try to lift the body some when it gets glued down, or move the tires out some. I don't really want to go back now and open the wheel wells up, but definitely will if I have to repaint it.
