I have a couple '40 Ford and he '36 Plymouth kits. Now, I knew VERY *little* about these cars. What are these chassis supposwed to be, or are they replicas of anything in particular?

The Plymouth I have built, but I would like some ideas on what to use on one of the Ford chassis. Give me some ideas!

TIA!

Not up on the 40 Ford but the plymouth should have a Tobias dirt car chassis that was one of the first if not the first chassis to be built for dirt oval racing, out of Pennsylvania

Thanks, Carl. As far as I can tell, the '40 Ford has exactly the same chassis. I know about Tobias, but wouldn't know how to ID one of his chassis! LOL!!

So.......... a build is coming up 1 April here for dirt track modifieds. Hmmmmmmm......... Any suggestions on a body to use on the chassis??

And, Ron R., are you lsitening?? I will need some wheels and tires for DIRT! rrr r:r /b/ .cc. .z.

OK, Ancient One! The kit you are talking about as Carl said Has a Tobias Chassis. As Jim said the whels are correct but if you want fronts to match the rears I can fix ya right up. The tires Really suck. I`ll look around in my stash and see what I can find. I seen one of those `40s somewhere that had a little of the deck lid bobbed off and it looked good.

I have a few of the Tobias chassied modifies, most are the '35 Chevy coach, plus one '37 Chevy coupe and one '40 Ford coupe. Two of the original issued kits from the '70's bit the dust (tossed out prior to various moves), a '65 Mustang that was never really started, and a Gremlin which failed to make the move from FL to NM. The survivor was the first one of these I found back around 1974-75 when these kits first started making their appearance was the '36 Plymouth...and is a box stock build with a couple of small additions...

With the window hog outs kind of hard to tell what body this is. Got started with my new toy at the time....a Dremel MotoTool. Also bobbed the tail. But this very loosely represented modifeds from my home town area back in the mid to late 1960's, though by the time I started attending races on a somewhat regular basis the frames used were basically sprint car (supermodified?) frames.
Have at least 3 non kit bodies I plan on using for the Tobias chassis...1933 and older....

Hi Brother Ron,

.cc.

Yes, I am building a dirt modified! 4rr If you can build a '62 Tin Indian, I guess I can branch out a bit, too..........

I would like a representative set of wheels and tires for this one. I am going to use the kit body on one and have the markings, etc., all set up.

This is new territory for me! As you know, I grew up at a dirt track, and we had a Dodge Coupe, but that was the mid '50s. /b/

Hi Doc!

Those all look great! rrr TU>

My problem is trying to build *non prototypical* race cars....... By that I mean I can easily build a replica of a real car (and I have built street customs in the past) but I can't wrap my head around a race car that I don't have all kinds of pictures, references, or I had something to do with myself! :(

We had a '39 Dodge Coupe that ran at the Southern States Fairgrounds, but I was more interested in the paint schemes of the other cars, and things like the Tobias chassis wasn't around yet. So this is all going to be a learning experience!

I will say, though, that other than attending the first couple of World 600s, and some Darlington and Rockingham NASCAR races in the '60s, the most FUN I ever had was at the dirt tracks. :)))

Hi Carl,

Several years ago, I picked up the Plymouth and did a *what if*. I have never really finished it....... (o)(o)

Ours was black (of course!) and #2. I did this one as a #2. I didn't really know what I was doing! :P rr21

To make the tires look like dirt tires, you can also get pairing knife hot, and cut the grooves in yourself...That's what I do...But I'm a yankee hick!! mpc Neal
