Hi Jim these pics are of Holden six powered mods . Holden is australias G.M. theses sixes were small in capacity , 1948-62 motor we call a gray motor as that was the color they were painted from factory 138 c.i. the boys would stroke them to nearly 200c.i..Next was 1963- 1980 our red motor c.i. started in the early sixties at 149 c.i. & by 80s was 202 c.i. these little engines were used in every form of motor sport , & even won Bathurst our biggest road race against for V8 powered falcons. dirt track in the early days the grays were doing allright against the Offy powered sprintcars that were coming from the states . later the reds took over & ran in most classes from dirt to asphalt. these engines have been modified in more ways than you could think of from crossflow to full overhead conversions i ran one on the salt out here for quite a few years in a 28 chevy roadster she ran at 157 mph was only 192 c.i. anyway heres some pics . paul ![]() ![]() ![]() |

thanks for the pics speeder, i know what you mean bout "doing" everything to theses 6's. when dad started raceing the 6's rules were 235ci stock then they started running 250 boarded .60 over and 292 ci destorked down to 270ci with 1- 2 bbl carb . what a great sound those 6's had!! i'v seen guy do just about everything to the heads like cross flo, doughn heads from downunder a even know of a few who took 2 350 heads cut them in half to make a 6 head with cross flo . dad used to make alot of his own intakes out of used pistons and beer cans .. lol to used a holly 4 bbl carb, there was none of this "call up the parts store "to get what you needed again thank you for the pics... they are really neat!!! i love them mind if i copy and save them ? |

Jim thats fine about the pics save what you like . thought this might interest you this little mod ran a Dodge flathead Six . 250 ci. motor , in the mid 50s due to cost we had these engines cast in England . the US motors previous were only 230 ci so when recast they increased to 250 ci. we have bored them out to 272 ci.for the lake . and they pull hard had problems with the heads warping so we would run cooling pipes on the head to keep water over the exhaust valves looked ugly put worked well . there was a few mods & rods running these motors over here . Cool stuff! Interesting to note the 2 flanges for the other Strombergs blocked off in that last photo. Outfits like Wayne and later Clifford were big in modifying the GM inline 6. Hot rod parts for these are available in scale from the Galaxy 48 Chevy kits. |

Richard If you don't crash once in a while, how do you know you're going as fast as you can? | |

Here is a photo of a Jimmy 6 powered old sprinter seeing some action at El Mirage Dry Lake these days.![]() Those engines were often used in sprints, drag racers, hot rods and lakes racers. The Ford flathead V8 fans had a saying tho'... "6-in-a-row don't go!" These days, the Jimmy 6s and Ford Flathead V8s and 4s are lumped into the same classes for lakes racing. |
