OK, hope this is the right spot for this one. Original Rislone Special. Dad started this one back when I was kid in the early 70's, it sat in the box for many years, then I pulled it out and finished it up. Windscreen has come off, but I still have it. Also have the box, instructions, and the Wheel Horse tractor that came with it. Not a great build, but a nice piece of history. Thanks for looking. Sully

Thanks for the good words yall. Richard, it's funny you mention that movie. I had never heard of it until about 4 months after I finished the model. Was channel surfing and caught the beginning. Quite surprised when I saw the car.

OH YEAH!!

Remember this one!
Built it back when it came out.....though mine did not look as nice as this one due to the fact it was built in my NON-painting days...
Not much of my build remains today.....but at least I know where that Turbo Offy went........About the time the AMT Grant King sprint car came out my Risoline Indy car ended up on the "hit" list.....
This is the result:

A little tweaking to get things to fit and this was the result

Remember seeing the movie "Winning" in theaters when it was released, and a couple of months or so ago it was on TCM and managed to watch it from the beginning. IIRC didn't the movie version of this car have more of a hawk peaked nose cone? And a few cameos from Johnny Rutherford, Bobby Unser, and I think even a shot or two of A.J. Foyt....

I'm getting older so sometimes things clash in the old brain but if I remember right the one in the movie is the one that Bobby Unser won the Indy 500 with. Eagle nose or no Eagle nose it is still a very cool model. ;;) Richard

IIRC, The Eagle in Winning is the 67 car with whiich Bobby Unser was a contender, but not a winner. The MPC model is a very accurate model of the 68 Indy winner 68 Eagle Turbo Offy driven by Bobby Unser. The 67 Eagle has a very much more pronounced "Eagle Beak" nose and a higher cowl. The other version of this kit is the one which AMT-Ertl re-released in the 90s and was the small-block Ford V8 68 Eagle of 2nd Place Dan Gurney, or the 3rd place 68 Eagle DOHC Ford V8 of teammate Denny Hulme.

Thanks for the info. I always thought all these years that they used the car from the 68 race. It was still fun to watch the movie. Had not watched it for a few years. *-*

Here is a link to a finished build of the Ford powered version raced by Dan Gurney to 2nd behind the Rislone car in the 68 500.

And the link to the build.

Great build with a lot of scratch building done by Ismael Gonzalez.

In my original post on this thread, I stated that in my recollection of the movie, the Rislone Eagle was a '67, not the '68 which won the race in '68 with Bobby Unser at the wheel. This was stated off the top of my head, but even though nobody questioned or argued with my statement, I wanted to be sure, not some fool who can't remember straight spouting off inaccuracies. So, I've done some research, and all of the stills from the movie I could find show the Rislone paint job on a '67 Eagle. While the nose, which is the most distinguishable feature defining one from the other, is not visible in any of the pictures, the vintage of the car is recognizable from the taller, more rounded tub with the more rounded engine cover and the thinner windscreen, and an NACA scoop at the upper rear edge of the nose to cool the cockpit. Each of these features in itself would identify the car as a '67. I suspect they used a backup car for filming. Bobby Unser finished well in '67 in a '67 Eagle, but this was with the striking black and yellow checkered Bardahl colors on the car.

It's great to see an old build that is still holding up!

I just got all the parts to convert the Olsonite Eagle kit to the Rislone version. 1969 was a significant year for me! .cc.
