Welcome ladies, gentleman, crews, and drivers for the Greater Los Angeles Lions Club Championships, Lions Drag strip in Wilmington, California, the inaugural 2018 Saturday Night Racing Association's Southern Fryed Drag Tour event. Most of us are enjoying the relief from the unrelenting winter in most of the country. . The temps are in the low 60s.

This is the 8th season of the Souther Fryed Drag Tour and the entry field is a full bracket of 16 entries for tonight's event. We have the last two year's SFDT champions, Otto Varoom and L. Edward "ET" Foot, competing with us tonight.

Tonight's fast qualifier is Podunkville's own Emily Cudahy.

It's time to get this season started. Our first pair are in the staging area. That would be fast qualifier, Emily Cudahy VS Paul D. "Speed Merchant" Smith.

Emily is driving her rear engine top fuel digger, powered by a Keith Black Hemi 426 Hemi, and owned by Agnus Cudahy.

Speed id driving his Nova Express Altered Wheelbase Funny Car, powered by a 427 Cu. In. Big Block Chevy "Semi-Hemi", and entered by Historic Racing Associates.

Welcome back for the third and semi-final round of the Greater Los Angeles Lions Club Championships, Lions Drag strip in Wilmington, California, the inaugural 2018 Saturday Night Racing Association's Southern Fryed Drag Tour event.
The weather has changed with th wind mow blowing in off the ocean. There is some fog starting to form on the far end of the track. We have a lot of new drivers with us this year that have never run here at Lion's before. At the drivers meeting, one of the veteran drivers, Tom Mcewen, explained the ins and out of driving this track during foggy conditions.

"At the very end of the track, there was a red light on the fence," McEwen said. The Mongoose enjoyed sharing his knowledge and empirical insight throughout the discussion. "At night when it got foggy, all you could see was the little red light. If the front tire started bouncing, it meant you were in the gravel, so you needed to move over toward the center line."

So let's start our semi-final round, before conditions worsen.

The first pair is Emily, driving her top fuel digger, VS Otto and his "what The----Altered".

Posted Image
Posted Image

Otto got a good start with a 2.7 second handicap. However Emily in her rail had a very good run and ran him down, before the lights. Emily is moving on to final round.

The last pair in round three is Butch in his Pro Comp Eliminator rail VS Larry in his '63 Chevy.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Larry once again cuts a good light and along with his 6 second head start he is able to hold off a hard charging Butch. Larry will meet Emily in the final round.

That concludes our semi-final round. Be sure to return in time to see the final, after the mandatory break.

Welcome back to the fifth and final round of the Greater Los Angeles Lions Club Championships - Lions Dragstrip, Wilmington, California. The opening round of the 2018 Southern Fryed Drag Tour.

The fog is going to hold off for the final round between fast qualifier, Emily and her top fuel digger VS slowest qualifier, Larry and his Chevy Biscayne. Who ever thought the final race would come down to the fastest VS the slowest?

Posted Image
Posted Image

Both drivers carefully prep their tires and stage.

Larry launches with a full 6 second advantage. Emily took chase in her beautiful rail, but failed to catch him in time. Larry is the winner of the first race of the 2018 Southern Fryed Drag Tour.

Congrats to Larry and a good job by Miss Emily. Titus was having convulsions because we lost in the first round, and I told him "Look, that's the way drag racing is, .?. it's not like late models, and we're in pretty good company in this series!" Next week could be totally better.

Congratulations Larry on the win.....Amy and myself will get this lack of traction issue figured out....I figured with all of that tire making contact with the surface that getting a decent bite off of the line would not be this much of an issue. .?.
