DragonAge: Origins; Don't bother

My roomate bought Dragon Age: Origins a month ago and I decided to give it a whirl. That was over a month and a half ago and I still cannot be bothered to finish it as it is just too methodical and dull to hold my interest.
The game follows a very basic, formulaic 'open the door, kill something. open another door, kill more things' pattern, and most dungeons are rather linear and uninteresting. The story is somewhat intriguing, but gets buried in quests that follow the same go-through-a-larger-than-real-dungeon-and-kill-endless-waves-of-un-challenging-monsters, which fills too much game time to be fun. The fights are lame, rather poorly thought out, and never once did I find them difficult.
Most side quests and even some main quests are mainly boring fetch quests and the go talk to so-and-so tasks.
One good point is the game is quite pretty to watch, but that's pretty much the only captivating feature. The good graphics cannot hold together the rest of the poorly thought out combat, and inventory systems.
Bottom line: If you like mindless grinding through monsters for hours, buy this game - otherwise avoid it and go buy something more interesting from Bioware, like Mass Effect2

i'd never really considered getting this game, but if it's a grind game, then I really will forget about it :P

Hmm...

Sounds almost like Oblivion.

Finished both it, and the Awakening expansion. I didn't play it for the gameplay. I did for the epic tale behind it though.

I will also add however, that I play Mass Effect for the story as well. Because its the same formula. You just have a gun instead of a sword.

If Dragon Age plays like Mass Effect I may have to at least try it now.

Same here. I also pre-ordered Dragon Age 2.

That said, I admit my taste in games is different than most people. If I can beat the main story in under 12 hours of non-stop play I refuse to waste money on it.

I loved Dragon Age. Looking forward to 2. But like I said, what got me is how people said that they love Mass Effect but hate Dragon Age. The gameplay style really is pretty much the same. Just different fighting style.

What it more likely means is they just don't like the storyline. Which is understandable.

I was referring to Mass Effect 2. ME1 had a lot of problems, and doesn't really compare. I dunno, ME just didn't seem as much of a grind game than DA:O. Plus I like sci-fi stuff :)

Speaking of Mass Effect, I need to make some time for that game, either in the summer or now.

Me too. I want to have an exportable male and female Shepard ready for the release of Mass Effect 3.

I'll be honest. I've enjoyed EVERY game Bioware has made. I've played pretty much all of their games since their D&D computer games, so I may be a bit too much of a fanboy to judge their games accurately, but I am fiending for Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3, as I have beat the previous games 3+ times for each.

If i had a PS3 Id have gotten dragon age for it, but alas, it were too expensive, and I was still debating between that and the wii, with its plethora of excellent virtual console games

I need to get a super nintendo, some games for it, and fix my old Nintendo to play NES games and I'll be set in that regard.
