People keep saying the PSN sucks but I haven't heard many people actually complain about it.

Sense makes not?

To many this does not, but no...it's brilliant.

Seriously though, I meant the PSN seems to be a running gag on some other community sites I visit but I've not met anyone who actually has complained about the PSN.

That better?

I kinda understood you the first time, so meh.

In response, generally the only people who bitch about the PSN being useless are those who have Xbox's. In my experience, from owning a PS3 and playing plenty of Xbox at mates houses, the PSN has a few advantages -

1. The match connection seems to be more reliable, as games get disconnected less and it lags less. Part of this may be just that I've got good broadband though. However, the number of games ending prematurely is due to whoever is hosting the game not just me, so I'd say the PSN is definitely more reliable connection wise.

2. The match quality, particularly on COD, is better in my experience. My guess is that this is because the 360's earlier release and cheaper price meant that more n00b's and younger players (not that their necessarily bad at the game, just immature and annoying, as well as less likely to play tactically) purchased/had purchased for them by their parents, while the PS3 was bought primarily by people willing to pay more and wait for what they considered a better machine.

3. It's free.

According to friends the Xbox community aspect for keeping in contact with friends etc is better, but as most of my mates have the 360 and I've got a PS3 that's always been a moot point for me.

Any help?

1. That's probably it, I thought I had a good connection but somethings tell me otherwise. Like Red Dead's hatred of me playing public games, or their servers suck.

2. Also seems very true, also xbox live has more people, so you're more likely to get the bottom of the barrel people.

3. You get what you pay for with the PSN then.

Seemed helpful.

1. I should say however that the difference in connection quality isn't enough to make buying a PS3 as well/in replacement worth it.

2. Nah, if it was a question of number of users then there'd be no difference. Sales figures are 40mil/36mil so there's not a significant gap for one thing. Plus the logic for that doesn't make much sense, as total number of players won't effect the ratio of good/bad. Sure the may be more bad people on the 360 (say 400,000 if we assume 10% of users are 'bad') there'll be a proportionately comparable number of good people.

3. Yup. A more reliable system with better players, for less money.

I can't help but notice that everyone who bought an Xbox at the launch (for $400) and later criticized the PS3 for being expensive (at $600) has now spent more on their Xbox, assuming they wanted to play mulitplayer and thus forked out for Xbox Live Gold (at $50 a year) having spent $650 in comparison to the PS3's $600.

1. Yeah.

2. Has the PS3 caught up that much already? I'm surprised.

3. Perhaps, at least they finally fixed their backwards capability problem... That was my biggest turn-off to the PS3, bad backwards compatibility, no backwards compatibility, until recently when it finally fixed that.

If you've had your xbox for 4 years so far, then after november 22, of this year, you will have officially spent more on that xbox for xbox live than a PS3 at launch date. So yes.

At the time the PS3 came out, it was actually the best deal for a blu-ray player, because you get both a game system and blu-ray player for $600 compared to $1000 for just a blu-ray player at the time.

Also, if you look at expense, then the Wii would probably be the most expensive, because, you have to buy 4 Wii-motes (this is to have for 4 players mind you), and the attachment(s), and the batteries/recharge packs.

The PS3 would probably be cheapest in that respect, because you can recharge them with a cable that came with the system. My only thought is, once that battery dies inside the controller of the PS3, then what?

As far as I'm aware the battery simply doesn't die.

Yes, there is.

The original release models are backwards compatible with the PS2. Later models, both original and slim PS3, are not. All are compatible with the PS1.

Well, when they did have it, it didn't work very well. Like some games the sound didn't work, the graphics messed up, etc etc.

So I guess they said, screw it, and threw it out. From what I read on the PS3 website it said that the games I had worked on the PS3. So either the older models actually fixed the problem via updates, the slim actually plays the games, or someone screwed up somewhere.

But nope, it says on their current models, "Due to the availability of an extensive line-up of PS3™ system titles, the 250GB PS3™ system is not backwards compatible with PlayStation®2 titles, but does maintain backwards compatibility for some original PlayStation® titles."

This saddens me...

thats retarded, one of the advantages the ps3 had, in my mind, anyway, over the xbox was backwards compatibility (with games id want to play)

Agreed. If they had basically made it a replacement for the PS2 instead of the next step up, in my eyes that would've saved the system. Much like the PS2 was to the PS1. If the PS3 would done that for the PS2 that would've, in my eyes been a great idea, in fact that's the reason I bought a PS2, to be able to play the older PS1 games as well as have access to the newer games. I had never bought a PS1 before so this was great for me.

I mean the xbox tried to do that, but so far hasn't done it too well, well enough, but not enough to make me want to sell my old xbox, there's still Timesplitters: Future Perfect, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and Burnout revenge for the original xbox that I still pop-in every once and awhile but the 360 won't play them... :(

Unless they've fixed that recently...

At least the Wii was basically a replacement for the gamecube... So I guess in terms of backwards compatibility the Wii wins in this case...

One thing that I particularly enjoy about the PSN is that PS3 game companies seem more willing to host the game servers. Case in point: in Halo, your system is the server so if you time out, or the others time out, it fucks up your game. People leaving can kill the game and whatnot. Or in TF2, a friend of a friend likes to "final smash" where he sets up his XBOX as the server and then does some kinda reset that leaves everyone else in the match frozen for a couple of seconds.

PS3? Either Valve or Sony hosts the TF2 servers. If there's lag, it's my fault, but at least it doesn't dick over the game. Inversely, if someone else is lagging, they have to deal with it, not me. And entering/leaving games is a hell of a lot easier.

BTW, just an FYI if no one has mentioned this, but RDD is glitchy as all hell.

Well duh. It's a free roaming game made by Rockstar. It would be almost disappointing if it didn't glitch.

Yeah, but GTA4 wasn't half this bad.
