1. Yeah. 2. Has the PS3 caught up that much already? I'm surprised. 3. Perhaps, at least they finally fixed their backwards capability problem... That was my biggest turn-off to the PS3, bad backwards compatibility, no backwards compatibility, until recently when it finally fixed that. If you've had your xbox for 4 years so far, then after november 22, of this year, you will have officially spent more on that xbox for xbox live than a PS3 at launch date. So yes. At the time the PS3 came out, it was actually the best deal for a blu-ray player, because you get both a game system and blu-ray player for $600 compared to $1000 for just a blu-ray player at the time. Also, if you look at expense, then the Wii would probably be the most expensive, because, you have to buy 4 Wii-motes (this is to have for 4 players mind you), and the attachment(s), and the batteries/recharge packs. The PS3 would probably be cheapest in that respect, because you can recharge them with a cable that came with the system. My only thought is, once that battery dies inside the controller of the PS3, then what? |

2. The PS3 has caught up. The Xbox's dreadful sale figures in Japan have been a big help. 3. *does not have any backwards compatibility* As far as I'm aware the battery simply doesn't die. |

Yes, there is. The original release models are backwards compatible with the PS2. Later models, both original and slim PS3, are not. All are compatible with the PS1. |

I meant, like eventually you'll recharge and use the battery to the point where it will wear out, I assume anyway. I thought it did have backwards compatibility... That bumped it down a notch in book then... ![]() Unless I buy an older model... Oh well... |

is it really that hard to make your own hardware compatible with your own hardware??? good christ, its not liek they switched from cartridge to cd, why are there so many fuckups on that list?? also, not compatible with star ocean: till the end of time is a poitn against them. i played the original star ocean, and it was good, i cant imagine they got much worse |

Well, when they did have it, it didn't work very well. Like some games the sound didn't work, the graphics messed up, etc etc. So I guess they said, screw it, and threw it out. From what I read on the PS3 website it said that the games I had worked on the PS3. So either the older models actually fixed the problem via updates, the slim actually plays the games, or someone screwed up somewhere. But nope, it says on their current models, "Due to the availability of an extensive line-up of PS3™ system titles, the 250GB PS3™ system is not backwards compatible with PlayStation®2 titles, but does maintain backwards compatibility for some original PlayStation® titles." This saddens me... |

thats retarded, one of the advantages the ps3 had, in my mind, anyway, over the xbox was backwards compatibility (with games id want to play) |

Agreed. If they had basically made it a replacement for the PS2 instead of the next step up, in my eyes that would've saved the system. Much like the PS2 was to the PS1. If the PS3 would done that for the PS2 that would've, in my eyes been a great idea, in fact that's the reason I bought a PS2, to be able to play the older PS1 games as well as have access to the newer games. I had never bought a PS1 before so this was great for me. I mean the xbox tried to do that, but so far hasn't done it too well, well enough, but not enough to make me want to sell my old xbox, there's still Timesplitters: Future Perfect, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and Burnout revenge for the original xbox that I still pop-in every once and awhile but the 360 won't play them... Unless they've fixed that recently... At least the Wii was basically a replacement for the gamecube... So I guess in terms of backwards compatibility the Wii wins in this case... |

One thing that I particularly enjoy about the PSN is that PS3 game companies seem more willing to host the game servers. Case in point: in Halo, your system is the server so if you time out, or the others time out, it fucks up your game. People leaving can kill the game and whatnot. Or in TF2, a friend of a friend likes to "final smash" where he sets up his XBOX as the server and then does some kinda reset that leaves everyone else in the match frozen for a couple of seconds. PS3? Either Valve or Sony hosts the TF2 servers. If there's lag, it's my fault, but at least it doesn't dick over the game. Inversely, if someone else is lagging, they have to deal with it, not me. And entering/leaving games is a hell of a lot easier. |
