Liar's Dice is a lot of fun, if you like the betting minigames. Also, the music in this game reminds me of 3:10 to Yuma. |

I don't like the minigames, as I suck at gambling in real life. Have you been working on the journal challenges? |

A little. I'll complete them if I'm doing something else or I'm on my way to somewhere and I happen to see one of the objectives. |

I've been doing them as often as possible, as I really want the Legend of the West outfit. Problem is I need access to Mexico now to get the rest. |

Ah, well I now have the job to go to Mexico but haven't done it yet. I'm worried about my ability to come back so I've been doing stranger jobs all over the place while I'm here. Off the top of my head, here's where I am with the journal challenges: Sharpshooting: Shoot 5 rabbits. Survival: Pick 6 Desert Sage. Hunting: Kill 5 wolves with your knife. Treasure Hunting: Find treasure using map. |

Sharpshooting's a fun one. You get things like kill 5 birds from a moving train later. Once you've killed the wolfs on hunting you've got to kill three bears with one shot, no idea where to find them yet so that ones on hold till I bump into one. |

I've been getting really used to the Springfield Rifle. Like it a lot. I'm sure there are better weapons later, but right now this one is the bee's knees. I mean, the best weapon I've been able to use so far was the gatling gun, but that was specific to one job. The lasso is a fun, niche weapon too. I lasso'd up some guy who started shooting at me, hogtied him, and laid him down on the train tracks. Then I looked at the map and saw that the train was on the other side of the map. Could have been terrific though. I just left the guy there and rode away. |

Up to the 3-bears-1-shot on sharpshooter. I'm in Mexico and haven't seen a bear yet. |

Also, I've bought the Springfield rifle. I prefer the Winchester Repeater. They're both two shot kills unless you get a head shot on most things, and the Winchester shoots faster and has bigger magazine. |

I tend to get one-shots with the Springfield. Also, the Springfield has a longer range and is more accurate. Although it is slow to use when you're ducking behind cover. He seems to stand out in the open for a full second rather than crouching back down. |

I was planning on using it for hunting, because it should be better at it with a higher damage/accuracy, and the slower rate of fire/ammo capacity won't matter. For combat though the repeater is just more practical. |

In Mexico you get a Bolt-Action Rifle. Has even higher damage, higher accuracy, higher range, but lower rate of fire. I've been using it for jobs where I'm mounted or in a vehicle. Use it to hit enemies that are really far away, on the edges of the map. Switch to a shotgun when they get closer. |

Nah, I like rate of fire too much too switch to bolt action. I might use it in long range fire fights, but not much else besides hunting. |

I prefer the higher damage weapons, regardless of the rate of fire. During gunfights where you're going from cover to cover against many enemies it seems better to pop up, fire one or two shots from a more powerful weapon and duck back down rather than pop up and unload a whole three to six shots from a revolver, exposed to fire the whole time. The bolt action may fire slower but it fires its one shot and allows me to get back behind cover faster than a faster gun would allow with the number of shots required. Plus, if the only thing you can see of the enemy is the top of their head or the side of a leg, that one shot dealing a lot more damage is more efficient than shooting the exposed area with a weaker gun and allowing them to fall down or jump back behind better cover while still alive. |

Bears are up north. Basically the furthest northern town, when you see snow, you're there. (Also, I'm hoping to get the game tomorrow.) (The game has been ordered, it should arrive in a week or less.) |

Don't know which way you're going with honor (but I have a guess, haha) but even when you're a 'good guy' in Mexico it can at best be described as morally gray. Seems to be the general course of the game as a whole, but you see it especially in Mexico. The 'good' or 'evil' spectrum seems to be more of a 'pragmatic' or 'haha-I'm-a-jerkass' spectrum. Good fun. |

I've got near max honour on this play through ![]() I'm gonna play though again taking all the jerkass decisions - did the same in GTA4. As for combat, I'm going for head shots every time so I don't need a powerful gun. Carbine bullets are one shot kill if they hit the head, just like rifle. Plus, I get to do some awesome cool stuff like killing five guys in one dead eye. You can't do that if you only have four bullets. |

I got the 'Long Arm of John Marston' achievement last night for killing 500 people with longarms. Wasn't following that closely, but now I'm going to switch over to using pistols and revolvers to get that corresponding achievement. |
