Anyone get the most recent DLC, 'Arrival'? I didn't know it existed until a few days ago when my friend was talking about it. Supposedly bridges the gap between 2 and 3. Haven't gotten it yet myself. |

Bought and beat 'Arrival'. Twas fantastic. Spoilers below: Batarians arrested a top Alliance scientist and Admiral Hackett sends you on a solo mission (none of your team are with you in this DLC) to infiltrate and rescue her. Skip ahead a bit here: you infiltrate the prison, rescue the scientist, escape the prison, and fly back to a secret Alliance base built on a massive asteroid. The Alliance found a Reaper artifact on the asteroid and have been studying it. The artifact, named Object Rho, has been sending off pulses of energy. The scientists figured out that the pulses were getting closer together and the artifact was reacting to its proximity to the Reaper invasion force. Based on the speed in which the pulses are getting closer together the scientists figured out when the Reaper invasion was going to happen. When Shepard arrives at the base that time is a little over two days. The scientists believe that the Reapers will use the mass relay in this star system to travel throughout the galaxy. With the invasion only two days away the plan is to slam the asteroid base into the mass relay, thus buying civilization some time. Unfortunately, as mass relays are home to some of the most powerful energy forces in the galaxy, barring large stars, destroying one would likely create a supernova-esque explosion. Alas, that seems like the only solution. Shepard tells the scientists to begin the process and what-do-you-know? - everyone on the base has been indoctrinated by the Reapers because of proximity to Object Rho. Doctor So-and-So who you rescued from prison at the start of the DLC sedates you so that you cannot stop the glory of the coming of the Reapers. You then wake up with the countdown clock at about an hour and a half. Note that at this point the countdown clock is accurate. You have the amount of time on the clock to complete the DLC. If you don't complete the DLC in this time the Reapers come and you get a game over. I didn't have any trouble with the time though. So you fight your way out of the med bay and eventually reach the control room where you start up the thrusters and aim the base at the mass relay. At this point you can either try to warn the over-300,000 Batarian residents of this star system that you are going to blow it up and that they should try to escape before you do so (paragon) or you can try to flag the Normandy down for a pickup (renegade). I chose the paragon option because this was my paragon save file. It turns out though that this decision is meaningless. Base communications are down. Doctor So-and-So decides that she can't let you go through with your plan. She locks herself inside the engine control room and begins overheating the mass effect core. So now you have to fight your way around the perimeter rooms that surround the engine control room to manually lower the cooling MacGuffins to prevent her from destroying the asteroid before it reaches the mass relay. Eventually you fight your way around (note: if you have it, bring the heavy weapon Arc Projector. There are a lot of enemies and you don't have any allies to help you. The Arc Projector's bouncing from enemy to enemy helps you when things get tense) and blast a way into the control room. Doctor So-and-So, indoctrinated as she is, begins crying that you've ruined everything and that she'll never get to see the Reapers. She pulls out a grenade and blows herself up. You now fight through a few more rooms of enemies. Eventually you reach the outside of the base/surface of the asteroid, where the communications tower is. At this point you have only a few minutes before the asteroid hits the mass relay, another real-time countdown for you to fight against. There are only a dozen or so enemies here, in addition to a YMIR Mech. Fight through those and you can reach the communications tower where you flag the Normandy for a rescue. A hologram of Harbinger shows up and tells you that you and your species are of monumental littleness and you fight against the inevitable, et cetera, et cetera. You tell Harbinger to fuck off and you hop on the Normandy for a dramatic escape. The Normandy gets to the relay seconds before the asteroid hits. The asteroid breaks the relay in half and releases the energy contained in its core. Cue the supernova-esque explosion mentioned before. Admiral Hackett debriefs you on the mission. The Batarians might go to war with the Alliance. They're a little peeved about the destruction of the relay, their colonies, and the loss of over 300,000 lives. More paragon/neutral/renegade responses here. Hackett says he'll delay hearings on the matter as long as possible, ie. you can still do stuff in Mass Effect 2 but I bet the hearings on this are at the start of Mass Effect 3. At this point the Reapers are probably inside the galactic disc but are going to have to travel to the next nearest mass relay before their invasion can truly begin, which may take months or years. So there you have it. |

Oh yeah, Mass Effect 2, one of the greatest sequels to a game ever. I may have to check out the dlc, and I'm actually kind of excited about Mass Effect 3. |

Never read reviews of it. I enjoyed it. I'd put the order of ME2 DLC's in descending order of preference as: 1 - Shadow Broker 2 - Arrival 3 - Overlord 4 - Firewalker And there's a decent gap between Arrival and Overlord. Never really got into Overlord. Firewalker is just vehicle missions, which I was never really into in either game (RIP Mako). |

i hated the combination of extremely long vehicle sections and lack of frequent autosaves in ME1 |

The vehicle sections in the main storyline of ME1 I thought was ok, but driving around the planets looking for stuff (aka resources and the same 3-5 or so buildings) was really annoying. Also once I found out that the RB button shot a missile/huge shot it got much easier. |
