I am not in a hurry to get married -Rani Mukherjee September 23rd, 2009 - 10:52 am ICT by sampurn - RANI MUKERJEE tells JYOTHI VENKATESH Would you say that you are staging your come back as an actor with Dil Bole Hadippa? My last film was Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic directed by Kunal Kohli for Yashraj Films in which Saif Ali Khan was my leading man. I do not think that nine months is a long period to come back in films. I did not take up any offer because they were not substantial enough for me. How did you prepare to get in to the skin of the character of Veer in Dil Bole Hadippa? Though I used to be stiff after wearing my beard for the role of Veer, I picked up my brother Raja’s style of dancing in both the songs which required Veer to dance. I had to compete with all the boy dancers at the back who danced with a lot of vibrant energy. It was very difficult to match their style of dancing especially since I am a petite girl. Did you make it a point to learn cricket and be well conversant with the game? Yes. It took me almost six months to learn the game of cricket. To get into the skin of my character in Dil Bole Hadippa, I had to learn the rules of the game and put my heart and soul into the game when I played it. In fact, I was injured in a lot of places all over my body. I cannot even mention the parts of my anatomy where I was injured because it will sound vulgar. I shed a lot of my weight to get into the mode of an athlete too. I enjoyed working in the film because it is happy and vibrant film. In what way has your knowledge of cricket improved after working in Dil Bole Hadippa? After working in a film like Dil Bole Hadippa, now I can say that I can enjoy watching even England play with Australia. Earlier I used to enjoy watching cricket only when India played with West Indies or Pakistan How did you work on the looks for both your characters in Dil Bole Hadippa? My part as Veer required me to look like a real batsman. The fact that I had slimmed down for the film helped Manish style Veera in Dil Bole Hadippa. The production team sent the picture of Harbhajan Singh to my stylist to style me as Veer looking at his picture. Harbhajan told me that he was thrilled to know that he inspired my look. How would you describe Anurag Singh who has directed the film Dil Bole Hadippa? Anurag did not look like he was directing a film for the first time. He would never say no to one more take if Shahid or I asked for it. You can be a very closed as a newcomer director but he was not though it was his first film. The best thing about Anurag is that he is an easy going and patient director. Anurag used to pray for us at every religious place that he went to while the shooting was on. What is wrong with doing crying roles since you have always walked away with accolades for such roles? The problem that I have always faced as an actress doing intense and serious roles is that people always used to come to me with similar roles almost to the point of slotting me with a set image. The kind of roles that I was being offered were not the ones which would have added to me as an actress but to the producers who were offering me such roles and hence steadfastly said no to all the offers and stuck just to one film- Dil Bole Hadippa. How practical are you when it comes to success and failure? I am quite pragmatic, when I have to take success as well as failure. Look here. Success and failure is not in my hands. A film failing does not mean that I am a failure as an actor. On the contrary, if a film of mine fails, it automatically makes me even stronger and stretches me beyond a point. Failure is also important for an actor because only if you are crushed will you be able to come up. How would you evaluate your growth as far as your career is concerned from the time that you had made your debut as an actress with Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat till Dil Bole Hadippa? I confess that over the years I have really grown richer as an actress right from the time I had made my debut with Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat. Can you elucidate? Fortunately for me, I have grown because I got an opportunity to work with not only great actors but also great directors. In any case, experience can get you only richer. Whether it was Kamal Haasan in Hey Raam or Amitabh Bachchan in Black or for that matter Shah Rukh Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Chalte Chalte, I was always amazed to look at the wide range of their enormous talent and made it a point to learn from them. I should say that it has been an incredibly rich career. Undoubtedly I have become a better actress after working with them than what I was when I had started out.” How do you react to the media linking you with Aditya Chopra? I am very upset with the media for spreading rumors about my marriage. Every time a film of mine is about to be released, I am married off by the media. Thanks to my great family, which is my great support system, I am able to tackle such rumors, which is not easy otherwise. How important is marriage to you? I concede that marriage is very important in every girl’s life, including that of mine, but the rumors make me look like a retarded girl and set out to test my intelligence. I am a very levelheaded girl. I respect my privacy and would not like the media to push me to the point of testing me to that extent by keeping on running me down. I am not in a tearing hurry to get married. |

Film times and brief film reviews Film times are good from Thursday, Sept. 24, through Friday, Oct 2 **** stars DIL BOLE HADIPPA (THE HEART SAYS BRAVO)—Feisty Punjabi village belle Veera (Rani Mukherji) longs to play cricket, a game that's just for boys. English ace Rohan (Shahid Kapoor) arrives to train the locals, and she dons turban and beard to become star batter Veer. Making peace between India and Pakistan, AND challenging women's oppression is a heady agenda for a musical romance, but Bollywood films have always been about nation building. Veera hotly demands to know why Goddesses are revered, but ordinary women are slapped down. Underdog sports movies always demand a suspension of disbelief, but Rani bites off, chews and spits out her double role like a piece of sweet sugar cane. She and Shahid are both prickly and adorable together, although the film never asks if he is attracted to Veer, as well as Veera. There's a lot of cricket, but first time director Anurag Singh dazzles with this year's best Bollywood film so far.--LB |

Rani has an action flick on her agenda TNN 24 September 2009, 01:31am IST PUNE: Hundreds of cheering fans welcomed actress Rani Mukerji at a newly-opened multiplex in Fatima Nagar on Wednesday. The actor was in the city to promote her latest film that has her portraying the characters of a Punjabi girl and a youth all at the same time. Addressing the media, Mukerji said, "I believe the film offers a paisa-vasool' experience to the audience which I think is very essential to establish an emotional connect with the audience. I think we need to change with time and reinvent ourselves which is what I tried to do," she said. Mukerji plays a Punjabi girl in the film who pretends to be a Punjabi youth to get into the men's cricket team. The film has Shahid Kapur playing the male lead. "Shahid and I would crack jokes very often on the sets. We are very similar people and we have the same kind of focus towards our respective careers," she said. Speaking of the film, Mukerji said that while she did not have to do any research on how to play a Punjabi youth complete with a turban, the game of cricket did require some practice. "It was a game I have never played before so it took be about six months to learn how to play it. Interestingly, no one has commented on my cricketing skills so I assume I look effortless as a cricketer," she grinned. Mukerji now wants to do an action flick since she believes that the preparation for the movie would involve learning a new craft. "I'm dying to do a film that has me doing some action and I would jump at any such opportunity offered to me," she said. So was the outbreak of the H1N1 flu a worry before she came to the city? "I did not think of the H1N1 flu till I saw people wearing masks in the city. So I can safely say that I did not think of it," she smiled. She also said that she believed in focusing on one film at a time and so had not signed any more films. "Today, publicity and promotion of a film is very important. I give my 100 per cent to a film and I plan to continue doing that," she concluded. |

'I've always been religious' Soumyadipta Banerjee / DNAWednesday, September 23, 2009 23:59 IST Email Mumbai: She was shooting abroad last year, but this time around Rani Mukerji promised herself that come hail or storm, she would not miss her family's Durga puja (under the aegis of The North Bombay Sarbajanin Durga Puja Charitable Trust, in association with DNA) at Santa Cruz. DNA Rani Mukerji -- who has vowed to be present for her family's Durga puja this year -- says she prides herself on her domestic skills and never-say-die attitudeThe evenings (from October 24-27), like every year, will be marked for cultural programmes at a makeshift stage near the puja. "This is the time I enjoy the most. I am not going to miss it this time around for sure," Rani adds, who will be taking center stage in the family function. "I have always been a religious person and for me. Durga puja is an occasion to meet my extended family. On the second day of the puja we offer pushpanjali (flowers to the deity) and then settle down for a sumptuous Bengali bhog." The actor says that she still believes she is a typical "middle-class Bengali girl" who prides herself on doing the household chores perfectly. "Believe it or not, I am a very good maid at home. I can wash dishes better than anybody else and can mop the floor too. The little Bengali middle-class girl is very much alive in me," she says, adding that is the reason why she doesn't get depressed ever. "Bengali middle-class girls are firebrands. They are always prepared to fight rather than cow down. I think I have those qualities. So, don't go by the rumours about my depression. Depression just doesn't go with my personality at all." Rani knows that she is perhaps the only actor around who doesn't have a website or a blog of her own. "I know that I am not present on the net at all. I have been toying with the idea for so many years now. But I am scared about the fact that I will be asked to clarify every rumour that surfaces about me. That would be such a waste! I don't want to tell everybody whether I had a good day at work or I am suffering from a knee injury. I want a boundary around myself. But yes, I am toying with the idea of having a website on my own," she answers. And a biography of her own is still very much on the cards. "Yes, that is also an option but that would also mean that I will have to allow somebody a peek into my life. It's a question of how much I can give to get what I want. I need to find a balance." If others blog and update their websites, Rani says that she uses up that time for classical dancing (Odissi). "My guru is always upset with me because I devote very little time for practice. He always keeps on complaining that I don't dance as well. I have promised him that I will put in more time for my dance lessons." Copyright permission mandatory to republish this article. The Queen comes calling Posted: Thursday , Sep 24, 2009 at 0353 hrs As Veera Kaur a.k.a Veer Pratap Singh landed in Pune, it was without her trademark willow bat or her bright Patiala shalwars. Dressed in a simple black dress, with minimal make-up and straight hair, Rani was the epitome of calm and quite unlike her boisterous screen persona. “It took me six months to learn to play cricket well enough to portray my role onscreen. When I started out, I did not even know the basics of the game. But at the end of shooting, I could play like a pro,” says the vibrant Rani, surrounded by a posse of media persons at the newly-opened Fame Multiplex in Fatima Nagar. “I dressed in those bright outfits as Veera Kaur, since all Punjabi women are so full of life. And in this film, I got to play both a pretty girl and a young Sikh lad, all agog about playing cricket. I truly had the best of both worlds,” says the 31-year-old actress, who looks not a year older than 25, in her new, chic avatar. When asked what was more challenging for her, playing a boy or a cricketer, in Dil Bole Hadippa, she says, “It’s amazing how nobody has homed onto the fact that I’ve played cricket like a pro, in the film. I mean, critics are commenting on everything in the film, except my cricket. I guess it means that my cricket shots appear natural and effortless and I take that as a compliment.” Produced by the Yash Raj Films (YRF) banner, the Rani Mukherjee-Shahid Kapoor starrer has been directed by Anurag Singh and tells the story of a young woman, who pretends to be a man, in order to join an all-male cricket team. Speaking of her long association with the YRF banner, Rani says in all the films she has done with the production company, she was given something challenging to do. “I’ve always wanted to play such roles as those in Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and with YRF, I’ve got the opportunity to play a fairy in Thoda Pyar, Thoda Magic. And in Hadippa, I’ve played a man!! Now, where else would I get a chance to do such roles?” she demands. Asserting that Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan have a special place in her life, the leading lady says she loves to romance SRK, Bobby Deol and Shahid Kapoor on screen. “Bobby is a real darling and it’s great to work with him. Of course, Shahrukh and Aamir are my all-time favourite male co-stars too,” adds the erstwhile queen of the marquee. “I look for an emotional connect with the audience in all the films I do and want to keep re-inventing myself. Now, the one role I’m really looking forward to is an action-oriented one. I’ve done drama and romance and comedy, now, it’s time for some ‘action’!” declares Rani. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/the-quee...alling/520937/2 |

Aamir taught me how to wear a moustache Though her promotional tour to the city left her hard-pressed for time, Rani Mukerji took time out to visit relatives some days back and even gifted a red dhakai jamdani for the Pujas! AMRITA ROYCHOUDHURY Times News Network It was work that brought Rani Mukerji to the city when Pujas were just a knock away. But what few know is that the actor had flown down to her hometown just days ahead of her promotional visit. It was then that she mingled with friends and family and exchanged Puja gifts. Her mashi, Debasree, gifted a red dhakai jamdani to Rani. “We ate outside and also gorged on mishti doi and sweets. I knew that when she will come for the promotions of Dil Bole Hadippa! again, she will have very little time to spare,” said Debasree, who got two saris from Rani’s family — one peach and another with a red border. With the Puja courtesy calls over, it was time for Rani to just focus on work when she visited a multiplex last week. But it was a good one-hour wait before she finally arrived. With the Pujas just around the corner, everyone expected to see this Bengali beauty in a sari, but she sprung a ‘short’ surprise instead. Ask her about the reaction she got from her family after they watched her latest big screen outing, and she replied, “My family is always biased towards me. I got positive reviews from my dad, mom, Rajaa, Jyoti and Jyoti’s parents. My niece, Mayesha, is holding a special screening and inviting her entire school for the third time.” Talking about her looks in the film, which is inspired from Bhajji’s, she said, “Harbhajan’s is the most available picture of a cricketer on the Net. My director, Anurag Singh, sent me his pictures for reference.” She agreed that being cast with a younger actor made her a bit apprehensive initially. “We (Shahid and I) weren’t too sure about how we would look till we delivered our first shot. After that, we looked at each other and said, ‘Wow, we look good together’. Shahid was apprehensive himself. Especially after Kismet Konnection, he wasn’t sure how that jodi went down with the audience,” said the actor, who described herself as quite a comedienne in real life. “Comedy comes easily to me and it was fun playing a man for the first time,” giggled Rani, adding, “Everytime I turned myself into Veer, Shahid was disappointed as he missed his heroine. And each time he saw me as Veera, his face used to light up.” But why did she once say that she even looks younger than Shahid? Is there a complex working? Or is she competing with a Deepika or a Sonam? “None,” was the answer. “I try to put my heart and soul into any role that I decide to play. The toned look in the film was for that,” said Rani. Commenting on how she groomed herself for a cricketer’s role, she said, “Aamir taught me how to wear a moustache. He told me to grin each time I plan to wear it. This saves me from the pain when the glue sticks to my skin. Shah Rukh taught me how to play cricket. He is a sportsman himself and used to be a wicket-keeper.” Then the obvious question was why she was not seen in a Bengali film after Biyer Phool? “At that time, I was a chhoto meye, baba bollo tai kore nilam. Now, it’s different. If I get a good role, I’ll do it. I have spoken to Aparna (Sen) and Ritu (Rituparno Ghosh).” And will she at all consider being the brand ambassador of the Indian women’s cricket team? “Right now, I have too much on my platter. But I will surely consider it if I get a chance,” she signed off. |

Bollywood Comes to Yuma By Darin Fenger, The Sun, Yuma, Ariz. Sep. 23--Every four to six weeks, a local movie theater is magically transported to India for an evening of that country's increasingly popular -- and always colorful -- movies coming out of Bollywood. The movies are brought to town by the India Association of Yuma. The group works to bring provide culture from the homeland for fellow Indians, as well as a general public that's interested in India's art and customs. "These movies are open to everybody. I would say about 40 percent of people who come aren't Indian," said Vinod Mohindra, the association member who created the film series. "We have many regulars who show up for every movie. There is a lot of interest, but not everyone in the public knows the movies are here." The next showing is Thursday at 7 p.m. The movies are brought in from a distributor in Los Angeles and are shown at Main St. Cinemas, 111 S. Main St. Thursday's movie is "Dil Bole Hadippa" or "My Heart Says Hurrah." The movie tells the story of a fellow who returns to India to recruit good players for his father's cricket team in England. Mohindra started the series last April, and 21 movies have been shown so far. Average attendance has ranged between 70 and 100 people at each showing. "It is important for us that we are getting current entertainment from the homeland," he said. "At the same time we have the chance to get together and socialize a little." Prior to the film series, members of the Indian community in Yuma would trade movies on VCR tapes and host movie parties in members' homes. "But no matter what kind of home theater equipment you have, a real movie theater is a real movie theater. So it is very good to see a movie at the theater." Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids. Tickets bought just a few days prior to the showing or at the door cost $11 for adults and $9 for children. People wanting to RSVP or to be notified about future movies can reach Mohindra by e-mail at vmohindra@usa.net. In addition to the movie, Indian snacks are often available for sale. Movies from Bollywood, as India's film industry is called, have earned a growing popularity with audiences in the United States. The movies are known for a certain style, which is defined by bright colors, dancing, music and lively plots. "Bollywood is now the No. 1 movie producer in the world. They now produce more films than Hollywood. They also do a lot of background for Hollywood," Mohindra said. "The movies are high quality, too. If it wasn't for the language, you would not be able to tell the difference (from Hollywood). There are high-quality story lines, too. Once in awhile you get a dud or a highly hyped movie, though." ----- To see more of The Sun or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.yumasun.com/. Copyright © 2009, The Sun, Yuma, Ariz. After Ghajini, it's Mozhi http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/44426.html i heard that Boney Kapoor will be the producer, and he is making Radha Mohan to wait for until Wanted gets released, which did already so i think Radha Mohan will be working on this film with Rani mukherjee, or Kareena Kapoor, or Asin. And im not sure about the actor. |

Rani Mukherjee: Old is gold Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 10:37 Posted Image She was once the queen of Bollywood. The rare combination of beauty, charm and immense acting talent made sure that she remained unchallenged for a long time . However, the bad run of her few recent films put her in danger . But now, she is out of danger. We are talking about Rani Mukherjee. Buzz up!You can run , you can hide but you can’t escape Rani’s charm and talent. Her splendid performance in her latest release Dil Bole Hadippa has not only won the hearts of the film lovers but also the praises of her critics. Dil Bole Hadippadidn’t have a great opening but audiences just love the film, especially her performance. The box-office collection of the film mounted during the opening weekend and the good word of mouth is expected to take the film far. Rani worked hard for the film. She looks ravishing in the new-toned-body. She rightly said that she looks younger than her co-star Shahid Kapoor, having shed a few kilos. Now, younger actresses have to pull up their shocks because the Rani of Bollywood is back with a bang. Rani surely deserves praises, and above all a big hit. Old is gold! |

Metting Rani Mukherjee Sandhya Iyer Rani Mukherjee’s ’all-eggs-in-one-basket film’ Dil Bole Hadippa may have got a mixed response but the actress herself is confident that the media will eventually hail it as a hit. “ The film got some good reviews and some bad. But I’m sure it will be considered a success…it already is, lekin media thoda time le rahee hai to say it. I think by next week things will be clear and that is when my ‘dil’ will say ‘hadiipa’,” she quipped to the media. Having lost oodles of wight and looking ravishing in a black outfit, the actress was thrilled to attend a press meet at Fame Adlabs, Pune – which had predominantly female journos. “This is such a good break from having men around. And such good-looking journalists in Pune…I never knew…I must tell my colleagues in Mumbai about this,” she said, sharpening her PR skills some more. Be sure to tell Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, we shot a repartee, only to have her smiling some more. The shiny, revolving stool the actress was sitting on was making her uncomfortable, though she spun around it like a little girl, playing to the gallery – much like what she’s been doing in all her films lately. Another comfortable chair was brought in and the Bong actress finally settled down for a cosy tete-a tete. Dil Bole Hadippa! released with Wanted – two high profile films pitted against each other and yet there was no acrimony between the two leading stars – Salman and Rani. This is a far cry from the ugly tussle that happened when films like Om Shanti Om and Saawariya clashed. So does she believe this bonhomie between her and Salman will set a new precedence, we ask? “You know, I’ve done so many films with Salman – most of which didn’t do well. We’ve been friends for a long time and when we heard out films were going to clash, we said to each other, ‘Yeh kya ho raha hai’ Also, we know that actors don’t decide the release dates, so we were very normal about it. And out films are of different genres. Even earlier, you had Welcome and Taare Zameen Par which worked. There was no question of any rivalry, because we have so much love and respect for each other,” she said. Coming to her latest film, though she plays a cricket player, she doesn’t don the sporty look that female players had in Chak D India! o Bend It Like Beckham, isn’t it? “I think I had a pretty unkempt look which is why Shahid (Kapoor) cals me ‘julli-pulli’ Otherwise there were just the colourful pajamas that I wore. And anyway, what can I do, I’m naturally beautiful,” she said, smiling ear to ear. The most difficult part of the film for Rani was learning cricket, as she knew nothing of the game, She spent six long months learning every aspect of it, so as to appear perfect. Hence she’s a little puzzled that he media and the reviews haven’t mentioned her cricketing abilities at all. “I read a few reviews and no one has said anything about how I played cricket in the film. I gather I did it so effortlessly, that it didn’t comes across as anything special,” she reasoned. The actress who is happy to play to the gallery with flamboyant, ‘different’ characters, says she’d like to take up an action film if someone were to offer it. All the same she denies reports that she’s doing Ashutosh Gowariker’s next opposite Abhishek Bachchan. “I’d like to clear the air about that. I’ve not been approached for any such film. But yes, if Ashu bhaiyya offers me his film, I would love to do it. Right now, I think he’s too busy with What’s Your Rashee? Ashu bhaiyya is someone I’ve known for a long time. I danced at his marriage as a little girl,” she said. For now, of course, the Queen is waiting to see if she can reclaim her throne with ‘Hadippa’ |

BO: Wanted drops after holiday, Baabarr falls victim, WYR test for actresses Thursday, September 24, 2009 Last week's Baabarr fell victim to its fate at the box office with collections not even making past 1 crore. The film never even could get started high enough to drop. Other recently released films like Aagey Se Right have witnessed similar fortunes, though better than Baabarr. The Salman Khan starrer Wanted had a good show Monday and Tuesday over Eid holiday, with pickups in multiplexes on Monday and Tuesday to the tune of 30%, after having collected under expectation 15-16 crores over the opening weekend due to weak performance at multiplexes. At the end of the week, he film did not draw universal appreciation or Ghajini type matching collections but it fared better than a string of previous duds featuring the actor. Its backdrop of the character 'Radhey' and its songs like 'Tose Pyar' gave it enough resonance in Hindi circuits this week, helping secure advantage in middle India over its rival Dil Bole Hadipaa. But after a good Monday and Tuesday coming off the extended holiday, Wanted's collections dropped on Wednesday and the advance bookings and screenings for 2nd weekend are also looking at some noticeable cuts. The film's patronage is restricted due to certain content and misogynastic tropes, which is stopping a wider allowance. The film has fared poorly overseas, grossing reportedly between $93k-$217k in USA its opening weekend (American Estimate: $93k, Indian Promoter Eros claims: $217k). Its performance in single screens continues to be above average to good for the most part. Nonetheless, in order for the delayed 50+ crore action sfx film to break even, less recovery from satellite/music rights, it needs theatrical share of about 40 crores (around 70 crores net) to break even. But that is not going to be easy because screening volumes for 2nd week in India have been cut by 50%+ from too many high grossing theaters. Satyam Cinema in Chennai for example will be holding only 2 screenings of Wanted from this weekend onwards. Coming up is an important test. 'What's Your Rashee' starring Priyanka Chopra in 12 roles will be a novel test for her and Harman Baweja as well as for audiences willing to patronize such new themed films at the box office. The advance booking has opened on the tune of about 15% on moderate volumes, indicating the opening may be ho hum on Friday. The movie could pick up but if it fails to score, it will help lend dent to the feminist calls for producing more movies around actresses in focus. As Dil Bole Hadippa tried the same and failed at the box office. The star here is Priyanka Chopra but with the rare exception of a Sridevi, Hema Malini and Rekha (Khoobsurat 1980), actresses so far haven't really been able to take the lead and successfully pull it off at the box office over the last 15 years. The two steadiest movies of the year had been the medium/low budget fares, Shahid Kapoor's Kaminey and Life Partner featuring Govinda. Govinda will be back in comedy routine with David Dhawan with Do Knot Disturb on October 2. But he will be seen in a dramatic light in Mani Ratnam's Raavan helping the 'hero' (Vikram) try to free Aishwarya Rai from the arms of low caste 'villain' Abhishek Bachchan coming up in a few months. Usually record opening collections for Hindi films are recorded by films which release during the Diwali-Christmas season from October-December. So starting next month, October is packed with big releases in the form of Karan Johar's Wake Up Sid, Do Knot Disturb, Aladin, All the Best, and Blue on Diwali which will see Akshay Kumar return to screen in a action-thriller opposite Katrina Kaif with major appearance by Australian sensation Kylie Minogue. |

Shahid Kapoor To Take Break For ‘Mausam’ Last Updated: 2009-09-24T17:45 Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor who is on cloud nine after his back- to -back blockbuster hits, ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ is reportedly to take break for some time. The actor is not taking break for vacations but to prepare himself for his father’s directorial debut, ‘Mausam’. According to sources, the actor wants to concentrate on his father, Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial venture. Shahid Kapoor will not take any acting assignments till July 2010. The shooting of the film is going to hit the floors in Janurary 2010. ‘Mausam’ is a romantic movie which will be produced by ‘Religare Vistaar Entertainment’. A source close to the film confirmed the news and said, “Though there is still some time before the shooting starts, Shahid will begin preparing for the film long before January 2010. He has been urging his father to direct a film for many years. In fact, if Shahid had his way, his debut would’ve been with his father’s film. But Pankaj likes to work at his own pace and only with those he’s comfortable with. They’ve found the right producer now.” “The romantic film’s screenplay is written by Pankaj Kapur, spreads over 10 years,” the source added The source revealed that the director is looking for a fresh female face for the film. “The girl has to be fresh-faced, innocent, virginal and has to have a never-seen-before quality,” the source informed. |

'I've always been religious' Soumyadipta Banerjee / DNAWednesday, September 23, 2009 Mumbai: She was shooting abroad last year, but this time around Rani Mukerji promised herself that come hail or storm, she would not miss her family's Durga puja (under the aegis of The North Bombay Sarbajanin Durga Puja Charitable Trust, in association with DNA) at Santa Cruz. I have promised him that I will put in more time for my dance lessons." |

Rani Mukherjee Lata Khubchandani Interviews Rani Mukherjee You’ve lost a lot of weight. Yes, this film required me to have a toned body in order to look like a boy. And you learnt cricket too. I went through extensive training for about six months and you’ll see how good I am. Who did you train with? This great coach, Anjali Pandharkar, who used to be a former player in the Indian team. Was having to learn cricket daunting? That was actually the most exciting reason why I signed the film. Me playing a boy and me playing cricket...these were the two things that got me hooked to the script. Films where I get to learn something new are exciting. How difficult was it? It was difficult physically. I had to look athletic and toned to be a player. Then the whole process of gluing the beard to my face each day and living with it. That was tough! How was it working with the new director Anurag Singh? Anurag is very funny but he’d decided to be serious throughout the making of the film. I knew him before so it used to amuse me. And Shahid? As an actor, I think he’s at his best, he’s matured and was amazing. Also, the love and respect we share added to our comfort levels. We heard your were unhappy with the shooting etc.... They were rumours. How happy are you with the film? I’m very happy with my role and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing it. From not being able to hold a bat to hitting sixes; the discussions on the look for my character which today people call me and say is “so cute”. Will the film surprise us? See, you’re going to watch a film called Dil Bole Hadippa so you know what you’re getting into. It’s a fun film. You’ll smile, you’ll laugh, you’ll move with the characters. |

Rani speaks out! MALLIKA MULHERKAR , TNN 25 September 2009, 12:00am IST With a petite frame and a million watt smile, Rani Mukherjee knows to charm her audience in real as well as reel life. Her recent release might not have rocked the box-office, but she comes up with that million watt smile of hers. It is easy to see that she is happy. Ask her about her disappearing act before her present release, and pat comes the reply, “We actors are like vagabonds. We accustom ourselves to the surroundings, and go so deep that we need time to come out. People feel it’s so simple to make a movie. I like giving my best to a movie I work in. I want my work to speak volumes, and for that I have to give my it my 100 per cent. That is why I was away from the scene.” While others in the industry describe her as one of the most versatile actresses, Rani wants to surprise everyone every time. “I like giving my audience their paisa vasooli. I want to do an action film which will get my adrenaline high, do something I have never done before. I want to do a real Indian martial art film. We have a martial art culture down south and even Punjabi martial art is so interesting. Nobody ever shows that. There are some TV shows where they came with such fighting styles. They really intrigue me,” she says. What makes her do soft romantic comedies in general? “I am a feel good movie freak. You’ll see me more in romantic comedies. But now, I want to push myself for more difficult roles. For instance, it was pretty challenging to play a boy. I went through rigorous training to get my act together. And the funniest part is none of the critics have spoken about it,” says she. In other words, she has a disappointment in her heart. But, that does not show. |

Film stars celebrate Durga Puja Linah Baliga / DNA Friday, September 25, 2009 Mumbai: The Bengali film stars in Mumbai jointly worshipped the deity of Durga at Balkanji Bari in Santa cruz West on Thursday. Organised by the North Bombay Sarbhajanin Durga Puja Charitable Trust (NBSDPCT), the puja was attended by Bollywood actresses Kajol, Rani Mukherjee and their families. Huge marquees were set up and decorated traditionally to beckon the devotees this year. The set was designed by Amit Pal and was graced by a 13-feet tall Durga idol. The film stars treat this puja as a family affair. Yesteryear actor Moushumi Chatterjee has been a part of the celebrations for the past 30 years. "This isn't just a Mukherjee's puja for celebrities. It's for the working class. We do our utmost to bring all communities together. I request the new generation to be humble and inclusive of all," said Chatterjee. The actor said that she has been waking up early, at the crack of dawn for doing preparations for the Navratri festival. "We take a bath at 3 in the morning and cook to make a 'bhog' offering. On Mahasthami, which is day after tomorrow, this idol will come to life. We chant our mantras and the idol looks for real," she adds. Debu Mukherjee, secretary of the trust added, "This puja is a gharelu (domestic) puja. Kajol and Rani grew up here. So we don't think they are celebrities. It's like a house party for them." |

Ask Sachin and Dhoni to rate me…Rani Posted on 25 September 2009. Just a day after DIL BOLE HADIPPA hit the theatres; gorgeous Rani Mukherji breezed through Kolkata on a promotional tour. The actor gets candid with our correspondent. You have almost taken over a year to come up with something so different-playing a male and a female in the same film… Actually this film -DIL BOLE HADIPPA, demanded a lot of my time to prepare for the characters especially that of the cricketer I am playing. I had to learn to play cricket…and if you have already seen the film you should have realized that the film demanded me to be a very good batsman; I didn’t want people to come out of the theatres and say that I didn’t play the game realistically. So it took me about six months training and started to shoot after that. The shoot took about seven months. How do you rate yourself as a cricketer? You have to ask Sachin (Tendulkar) and Dhoni about that; ask them to rate me (smiles). Do you like cricket? Before doing this film…no. But now that I am into it I have realized that it’s not just a man’s but a lady’s game as well…there are certain technicalities that’s more important than the steps. I had a great time playing the game. Was it just cricket or something else that appealed to you about this film? I think the sheer fact that I get to play a boy in the film and to play cricket is something that was very very challenging for me. How was the chemistry between Veer Pratap Singh and Sherlyn Chopra on screen? I think it’s great. If you have seen the film, Veer is always after Sherlyn’s life…this character Veer and the character played by Sherlyn always crosses each other’s life. It was fun actually. In the film we see Rakhi Sawant trying to woo you. How’s working with her? It was lovely to work with Rakhi. She is an extremely sweet girl and very professional. The first time you saw Shahid and yourself together on screen, you were like ‘Wow’. But did you have any apprehensions before? No it was not from my side. But with the KISMAT KONNECTION combination not working for Shahid, he was not very sure. But the first day we gave the take and saw ourselves on the monitor, both of us said ‘Wow, we think we are looking great!’ How did Shahid help you to improve on both the characters? In order to make your performance look good, you need the person opposite you to be really good. And Shahid is showing his strength as an actor with each film. He is a brilliant actor. He complimented all the scenes I did. Of the two characters Veer and Veera, which one was more difficult and why? I think playing both the characters in one film itself is difficult. On one hand, Veera had to look glamorous, while Veer was a cricketer with beard and moustache. Shooting for long hours under the sun with the itching beards is definitely not easy! What’s the reaction of your family? Who are they liking more-Veer or Veera? This is a really difficult question because my family is always bias to my films. This time too their reaction is positive. In fact, my niece has called her entire school for a trial show in Mumbai this Saturday…this is the third time she is seeing the film. You said that you look younger than Shahid in the film. You lost weight, wore a bikini top…all these to compete with the younger heroines? I put my heart into the film I do. This film required me to look gorgeous as well as look like a cricketer and have sporty look. I am too professional in these matters. Which heroine from the younger generation do you like the most? There are so many-I like Priyanka (Chopra), Deepika (Padukone) and Anouska (Sharma) very much. Given a chance, will you be the brand ambassador of women’s cricket team of India? Right now I have too much in the plate, but I will definitely consider it. |

Rani isn't in Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey :( All the same she denies reports that she’s doing Ashutosh Gowariker’s next opposite Abhishek Bachchan. I danced at his marriage as a little girl,” she said. http://www.naachgaana.com/2009/09/24/i-jus...eet/#more-40671 |

Rani bole ‘Hadippa’ September 25th, 2009 http://www.tongueonfire.com/?p=496 Last week I managed to watch Chopra’s latest film on the first day itself at a Cineworld outlet. Trust me; I have never seen so many Indians in London together than I saw the other day at the theatre. Hands filled with packets of pop corn, Pepsi, nachos and hot dogs, people looked bright with enthusiasm as they entered the movie hall. One of the best things about a Yash Chopra film is the amount of colour and drama involved in the script that spices up the entire story. Suddenly when you feel that all is going well in the movie, there is a twist and even if you know that there will be a happy ending, you still sit straight on your chairs, munching pop corn and concentrating hard on the story. Well that is truly the bollywood ishtyle. Even though “Dil Bole Hadippa” couldn’t fetch for itself some great reviews, I still enjoyed the movie to my heart’s content. Not so much for the script as it was for Rani Mukherjee’s performance. While sitting in the movie hall and watching Rani in the movie, my mind raced back to her first ever performance in a film. Her first film “raja ki aayegi baraat” was a complete disaster at the box office. In fact critics had completely written her off saying her voice wasn’t up to the mark, her acting skills weren’t too great and so on. But her performance opposite Aamir Khan in “Ghulaam” proved that she is here to stay. The bollywood industry in India is highly driven by the “hot” factor as compared to “performance” factor. So if we look at it critically, a lot of actresses are able to get a name for them because they are ready to flaunt their skin in the skimpiest of clothes possible. Taking Rakhi Swawnt for example, I don’t see any acting skill in her but still people like her, or should I say, find her “hot”. No matter how much anyone criticises, the entire “Rakhi ka Swyamwar” drama was a hit in India with TRP ratings soaring high. It is the same with many more top actresses who continue to get roles because of their overrated sex appeal. And this is not only true in the case of actresses; it is true for actors as well. There is always a debate about who the better actor is – Shahrukh or Aamir? I mean the answer is quite clear; one is a superstar while the other is a serious and versatile actor. Why is Ajay Devgan so out of the league when he has delivered some of the best performances? In fact I was very impressed to see Shahid’s performance in Dil Bole Hadippa. He has fine tuned his acting skills and is definitely here to stay for a very long time. But coming back to the focus of my article, Rani Mukherjee’s performance is beyond any praise. She was brilliant and brought life to the film, just like Kareena in Jab We Met? But I do hold a criticism against Rani in this movie. After a great performance in the entire movie and just minutes after proving that she doesn’t care about the “hot” tag of the bollywood industry, she came up with a dance number in the end that was nothing but some cheap skin show. Was it really required? Or was it a way to attract viewers? Maybe it was a way to push her career to a new platform. The pressure of being labelled as “hot” is what might have forced her to resort to the skin show. But trust me Rani, you don’t need this. Your acting skills speak for themselves. As for the hot tag, it is for the non-actors. |

‘Shahid was good fun’ : Rani Mukherjee 22 September 2009 With Dil Bole Hadippa! out in theatres, Rani speaks about her co-star Shahid and also clears up some controversies about the film Tell us the reason for the glow on your face and your new svelte figure? I think it’s all because of the movie. I did a lot of yoga and weight training as I play a cricketer in the movie. It was very important that I look like a cricketer as it forms a major part of the movie. And obviously you do not want a sardar boy running with things jiggling on his body. So, I toned myself down to fit into the role of the movie. And the glow on my face is due to the amazing journey I had through this film. I trained with Payal Gidwani who helped me with yoga and Satyajit Chaurasia. You are the only co-star who hasn’t got linked to Shahid, why is that? Shahid is lovely; a complete delight to work with. He has grown as an actor step-by-step. He was good fun because we got along really well. If we have not been linked yet, then do it now, what is the harm? We heard that you are being wooed by Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra in the movie? There is nothing like that, nobody is wooing me. It’s complete rubbish. How is Rakhi Sawant as a co-star? She is a darling, because she is very professional, very hard-working and it was lovely to work with her. Is it true that you were not happy with Anurag Singh’s direction? Absolutely not! It’s very bad when people start talking about my director like this. My director is the captain of the ship and he is a very important person in the entire unit. It’s his first movie; I urge the audience to give him blessings because he has made a great film and is a very sweet boy. I feel really bad for him because he ends up asking us ‘why are these rumours being spread about me’? Did you insist that Aditya Chopra direct a few portions of the movie? Never. This is really bad, this is a dirty rumour. Who is your favourite cricketer? What would you do if you were a real life cricketer? Sachin Tendulkar. If I were a real life cricketer then I wouldn’t let India lose even one single match. Shahid in Kaminey or Dil Bole Hadippa? In Dil Bole Hadippa! All time favourite YashRaj movie: I just love Chandni starring Rishi Kapoor, Sridevi and Vinod Khanna |

Love, Sanjana
