Dil Bole Hadippa is a light entertainer with all formula factors (minus action) needed for a commercial film to the masses. It has 2 easily connected tracks. The first is the Lagaan & Chak De India track where the hero trying to bring success to Indian soil. The other is love angle, especially with an NRI to a Punjabi girl.

Veera (Rani Mukharji), the heroine of the film carry a dream to play for India and she believe that she is the world's greatest batsman (she hope she can open an innings with Sachin for India, one day). Her dream is not without base where she has proven record that she can challenge and score six sixes in an over. Every year there is a friendship match between India and Pakistan on the eve of Independence Day to get the Ammaan cup. Anupam Kher play the role of Rohan (Shahid Kapoor)'s father who carry the dream of winning the trophy for India but Indian team could only manage to repeat the failures. Desperate father calls his son who is a leading star in county cricket. Veera now decide to join the team as Veer Prathap Singh where she was denied entry as Veera. Rohan and Veera fall in love each other but Rohan have no idea that Veera is Veer. Watch the movie to know more of the masala flick.

Dil Bole Hadippa is a feel good movie and will be in the liking of the masses. The story is predictable from the beginning but the climax was bit different. It do not belong to the league of 'Chak De India' or 'Lagaan' or for that matter the 'Pardes' or 'DDLJ', but surely it is a good entertainer . The story was good and the director did manage to make an impression with the film. The dialogues however missed the power required in the climax. Screen play could have been better. The extended climax didn't do wonders but only give a surprise. Though the message was there all the way, the presentation otherwise was not focusing on it and when the speech was delivered in climax it only added into the length of the film. Despite this later adventure the film was entertaining all the way.

Shahid Kapoor well played his role keeping his best for the selected moments. DIL Bole Hadippa belongs to Rani Mukherji all the way. Rani simply rocks, and mind you, we don't expect nothing less than excellence from her; right? Anupam Kher did his job convincingly.

Cinematography is ok but fall short of excellence. Editing is not up to standards.

Songs of the film and its picturisation is a major plus for the film. The feel good factor is very much working in those attractive songs. They are bound to play on top of the charts.

Overall, Dil Bole Hadippa is a typical Yash Raj movie which many of us may like. Unless you have high reservations, this light entertainer is bound to entertain you. Go for it.

If you have been waiting for Dil Bole Hadippa you will surely not be dissapointed. The film starts out with Veera Kaur (Rani Mukherjee), a hardcore typical Punjabi kudi who is completely obsessed with cricket. She's so confident of her abilities that she boldly claims that she can hit six sixes in a row, even when a pro pitcher takes her up on the bet. Veera also works alongside Shanno (Rakhi Sawant) and others in a dance troupe that performs regularly. Of course, while they perform, she's backstage playing cricket with the kids, which is extremely endearing.

Story starts like this Rohan Kapoor (Shahid Kapoor) and his father Vikram Kapoor (Anupam Kher). Rohan is an accomplished cricket player in England who has lived there for many many years. Vikram somehow convinces Rohan to come to India and be by his side.

Dil Bole Hadippa! Vikram's close childhood friend, Liyaqat Ali Khan (Dilip Tahil) is from Lahore, Pakistan. To foster peace between the two nations, the friends have set up an annual Peace Cup. Vikram asks Rohan to captain the Amritsar team and lead them to victory.

When Rohan comes across Veera for the first time, her adorably bad English and her defensive patriotism catch him completely off guard. She's most definitely like no one he's met before. Veera finds out that the Amritsar cricket team is holding tryouts for selection. She gets extremely excited and runs off to become the town's new batting star. Unfortunately, when she goes to the tryout, the security guards and the rest of the men in line scoff at the notion that a woman could play cricket with them. Rani is heartbroken.

Rani realizes that she can dress up as a man and possibly fool the cricketers into letting her onto the team! Rani freaks out when she sees that the same foreign jerk who annoyed her, Rohan, is the captain. She stumbles and lies and tells him her name is Veer Pratap Singh. Veer succeeds in impressing Rohan and is accepted into the team.

After a lot of fun-filled moments between Rohan, Veera and Veer Pratap Singh, its time for the final cricket match.

We would recommend Dil Bole Hadippa as a Good Movie of Rani Mukherji after a long time. She is definitely back and it one of the most powerful comeback and Shahid after the success of Kaminey is Rocking again in the film.

Following the phenomenal success of New York, Yash Raj Films returns with the much anticipated 'Dil Bole Hadippa'. With many expectations and questions tied to the film. Will Yash Raj`s winning streak continue after the success of New York? Will Rani Mukherjee be able to deliver an equally stellar performance as Veer and Veera? Is the Rani and Shahid Jodi`s chemistry quotient high? The plethora of questions are answered with a resounding-Yes! Dil Bole Hadippa is a highly enjoyable, light-hearted family film with a theme that connects with one and all-Cricket.

The film does give one a sense of déjà vu with the essence of a typical Yash Raj Film where you are taken back to the days of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Veer Zaara and many other Yash Raj classics. Dil Bole Hadippa is a light hearted romantic comedy which touches on serious issues in our society such as gender biases and inequality existent in society, but does so in a very light-hearted manner.

Veera (Rani Mukherjee) lives in Amritsar with her Uncle where they coordinate for an Art/Dance show to make a decent living. Despite having a 'Nautanki' show where you have Shanno (Rakhi Sawant) stealing the hearts of all the men, Veera dreams about playing cricket in the big leagues with Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In short Veera is a small town girl with big dreams and she eats, breaths and sleeps 'CRICKET'.

Rohan (Shahid Kapoor) lives with his mom Yamini (Poonam Dhillon) in England. He`s an all rounder for English County Team. Rohan is Indian at heart but is a foreigner outwardly. Due to unforeseen circumstance Rohan parents are separated but the bond between the father and son continues. Rohan comes back to India to help his dad Chaudhry Vikramjeet Singh (Anupam Kher) who has dream to win the Aman Cup (Peace Cup) but has been on a losing streak for the past 8 yrs. Rohan takes up the challenge to make winners out of the 'Indian Tigers'. Sheer circumstances turn Veera into Veer to break the barrier to fulfilling and living a dream and what follows is hilarious, touching and moving all in one breath.

Will Veera be able to pull the double role 'Veer' convincingly without being caught?

Will Rohan be successful in fulfilling his dad's dream?

Will Veera finally achieve her dream of being a cricketer?

Anurag Singh makes a confident directorial debut with Dil Bole Hadippa. From the first frame till the climax the director definitely delivers a promising debut venture. The emotional sequences are well executed and the comedic scenes are absolutely hilarious reflective of sincerity and immense maturity.

The film could have been crisper in terms of editing and scripting. The film has its share of faults which make you wonder such as Why Shahid Kapoor who plays an NRI from England didn’t have a British accent? Rani’s speech where she is trying to convey a message to the crowd is not as compelling as it could have been. Furthermore, the film has a lot of resemblance with previous Yash Raj Films and may leave a segment of the audiences looking for something hatke a tad discontented.

The film works because of the equation between Shahid and Rani. The two wonderfully complement each other and their love story is pinned not as a conventional candy floss tale but the story is told in a delicate manner. After the success of Kaminey, Shahid`s portrayal as Rohan introduces a new age romantic hero.

Rani fits the roles of Veera and Veer to the T! The body language and the right accent required to play a 'Bindaas' Sardarji is challenging to say the least but Rani pulls the character off with such ease, it is a stellar performance from the actress and should definitely win her many hearts and accolades. Rani as Veer makes you fall in love with the character so much so that you find yourself forgetting at times that it is actually Veera playing Veer.

The supporting cast: Rakhi Sawant, Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, Poonam Dhillon, Sherlyn Chopra are first rate and add a freshness to the film. The music of the film by Pritam brings the earthy feeling of Punjab which is incorporated well with the story of the film. Ishq Hi Rab Hai and Discowale Kisko being the pick of the lot.

The film should prove to be lucky for the Yash Raj Films banner. The film will be facing fierce competition at the box-office from the Salman Khan starrer, Wanted. Who emerges as the winner will be upto the audiences’ verdict. Dil Bole Hadippa is a simple, inspiring tale of hope which makes one feel joyful and cherry and will your heart go Hadippa!

Rani plays good senior to her Pepsi co-star
Prashant Singh
New Delhi, September 18, 2009

Rani Mukherji's weight loss seems to have made her chirpier. Maybe her bubbliness of her character in her much-awaited next film, Dil Bole Hadippa, has rubbed off her in real life. But Delhi also got to see the actor's diva attitude when she came with co-star Shahid Kapur to promote the film on Wednesday.

Rani surprised everybody with her blunt replies. Whether it was to snub eager journalists or praise Shahid, she didn't hold herself back on any subject.

And as the questions got more probing, she silenced a journalist by offering to share her mobile number so that they could chat up with later.

She played a perfect senior to Shahid, who had starred with Rani in a Pepsi ad when he was all of 19. Rani kept egging on the media entourage to tell Shahid how good he looked in the film.

"When you work with a senior and talented actor, you learn a lot," said Shahid. "It's a film produced by a reputed banner. I always wanted to play a cricketer. I needed to come out with a light film after Kaminey," he added.

Rani, on her part, showed her big heart, like her Punjabi character, declaring that she wanted Salman Khan's Wanted also to become a hit. Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan also helped her in Dil Bole Hadippa. "I was shooting a song with Rakhi (Sawant) before I had the moustache on and Aamir gave me tips on how I should put it on with a little smile so that it doesn't hurt," Rani said.

Well, she did not have to make an effort to smile that evening, for she certainly was the rani of hearts.

Link me with Rani Mukerji, says Shahid Kapur

Updated on Friday, September 18, 2009, 09:03 IST

Shahid Kapoor has been having a particularly good year with ‘Kaminey’ making waves at the BO and playing lead opposite Rani Mukerji, who is making a comeback of sorts. In an exclusive interview with Shashank Chouhan of Spicezee.com, Shahid narrates his experience of Dil Bole Hadippa and how he tried to make stammering not sound funny.

b>Shashank: Tell us about your role in Dil Bole Hadippa.

Shahid: I play Rohan, a cricketer who plays for a County in England. Rohan lives in UK with his mother while his dad lives in Punjab. His dad has a local cricket team that’s been performing very badly since sometime. So, I come to Punjab to play for my dad and to make sure that his team gets its past glory back.

Shashank:How was it working with Rani Mukherjee? She is making a comeback with you.

Shahid: Firstly, I don’t think Rani ever went anywhere to have to make a comeback!

Working with Rani was awesome. Considering that I had done an ad with her when I was a nobody and Rani had already become this star after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, it was great to work with her as her hero! Rani is such a talented actress and she dances so well…I had a lot of fun.

Shashank: Has recession affected your remuneration? There are reports that you are charging 15 crore per project now?

Shahid: Yes I have also heard these rumors…. It’s interesting to pick up the paper everyday and read some strange things about oneself …

Shashank: You have played a double role in Kaminey for the first time. How tough was acting two characters in the same film?

Shahid: Charlie and Guddu complement each other. Both are incomplete without each other. Between themselves they pretty much cover the entire gamut of emotions that a human mind normally experiences and feels.

Both the roles had their own unique challenges. Charlie’s physique, for one, was very different from my personal appearance. Vishal and I were keen to do something radically different with Charlie’s look, and we wanted audiences to see the character and say – “Wow, is that really Shahid Kapoor?? Never seen him like this before!” It took me nearly a year to change the look of my body. Plus, Charlie also has a lisp!

With Guddu, who stammers in the film, we didn’t want this to end up looking like a caricature in any way. Stammering traditionally in Hindi films is usually done to amuse people. We were very clear that we did not want that to happen. Vishal is very particular about not making fun of people’s physical deformities. So we met up with ENT specialists and did thorough research on the subject of both stammering and lisping.

Shashank: Tell us about your upcoming ventures.

Shahid: Yash Raj Film’s Dil Bole Haddippa releases on 18th of September. Post that, UTV’s Chance Pe Dance should release around November or December. Meanwhile I am currently shooting Yashraj’s second film, directed by Parmeet Sethi. Once that’s done I start shooting with my dad somewhere around December. By then Paathshala will also release.

Shashank: There is much curiosity on whether you are single and ready to mingle or not.

Shahid: Yes, I believe there is a lot of curiosity!

Shashank: While there are so many rumours of you and Priyanka, there are almost none about you and Rani. Does that surprise you?

Shahid: Yes it’s been amusing me and Rani both, how there is no link up between the two of us in the press…specially since I get linked up with every single heroine of mine… kuch karna padega!

Shashank: From acting in commercials to being the lead opposite Rani Muerjee- what has been the journey like when you look back?

Shahid: Very fulfilling and I feel very fortunate for all that I have got.

Shashank: How do you maintain your physique and do you change it a lot as per demands of films?

Shahid: Yes, my body’s look always depends on the demand of the role. For Kaminey I needed to have a lean body of a street fighter and I took a year to get that shape. For Chance Pe Dance I have an 8 pack and for the film that I am shooting currently I am required to look like a lean 22 year old. So my training depends completely on the demand of the director. But I have been a lot into fitness and it’s a part of my daily routine, something I can’t do without.

Shahid Kapur romances Rani Mukerji all over again
Story By: Businessofcinema.com Team updated on: Sep 18, 2009

MUMBAI: Shahid Kapur is back to where he started when he first faced the arc lights. He was then 18 years old, still trying to come to terms that he was going to do a Pepsi commercial with the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai stars - Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherji. Shot by Prahlad Kakkar and choreographed by Farah Khan, Shahid woos Rani in that commercial just as he is doing the same in Dil Bole Hadippa.

Kakkar tells Businessofcinema.com, "My casting director Amita Sehgal had found this thin little boy and she had to really convince me to take Shahid for the role. On the day of the shoot, as there were so many people coming to see the stars shoot late at night, Shahid was not allowed to enter the shooting premises by the security guards."

Shahid confirmed, "For over an hour and a half I kept convincing the security guard to let me in. But he was sure that I was not part of the shoot and refused to budge from his stance."

Farah Khan, who choreographed Shahid's steps found the actor hiding in his vanity van, inspite of repeated calls for him to report to the set. Farah said, "When I stormed into his vanity van, I saw Shahid sitting nervously with a 28 size pair of jeans as they were a size too big for him. Every time he would stand up, the jeans would fall and pool around his ankles. It was late at night and it took some time for them to get the correct size and so big stars like SRK, Kajol and Rani were made to wait for this little debutant who we later nicknamed as Ladoo Singh because of his cheeks."

It is a full circle now as Shahid romances Rani on celluloid for Yash Chopra’s Dil Bole Hadippa.

Rani Mukherjee & Me...x
Bobby Friction | 01:18 UK time, Friday, 18 September 2009

At the beginning of the week I had the fortune to host a press conference for Rani Mukherjee who was on a flying visit to London to promote her new movie 'Dil Bole Hadippa'. I got to spend twenty mins alone with her in her hotel room to 'vibe' ourselves ready for the press conference and found her down to earth and very funny. The press conference was a shambolic success as she refused to answer any question directly, and spent the whole time taking the 'mick' out of me (and my green jeans!). It was however very funny and I was congratulated afterwards for getting some fun and personality out of the notoriously 'cold' actress in an interview situation. I thought she was funny, witty and very, very sexy...(inna a platonic bollywood kind of way..)

Rani desperate to make Hadippa a hit
Press Trust of India
Thursday, September 17, 2009 (New Delhi)

Badly in need of a hit after a string of flops, actress Rani Mukherji is leaving no stone unturned to promote her latest film Dil Bole Hadippa.

The actress who faced flak from film critics after her last film Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic failed to create any magic at the box, gave her last hit in 2005 with Bunty Aur Babli .

After which she delivered box office duds like Ta Ra Rum Pum, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Saawariya.

But with Dil Bole Hadippa which releases tomorrow, Rani is determined to churn out a hit and has been on a whirlwind promotional tour to Toronto, London, Mumbai and Delhi.

At an event in the capital yesterday, Shahid, who is still basking in the glory of his successful venture Kaminey, seemed more than happy to talk about his Vishal Bardwaj's hit but it did not go down too well with Rani.

The 31-year-old actress made no qualms about making it clear to Shahid that they were at the event to exclusively promote Dil Bole Hadippa.

If Shahid talked about Kaminey or anything apart from the Yashraj's film, Rani would shout Hadippa giving a wake-up call to the actor.

"Everytime I am too excited my heart goes Hadippa. I can't stop myself from shouting the name," the actress explained.

The film is about a village girl, who disguises herself as a man to get selected in a cricket team.

Dil bole Rani

Neel K Menon

If the Reality TV vocabulary is anything to go by, Rani Mukerji is right now in the "danger zone". She is wavering between an "over-the-hill" actor tag and an impend ing marriage. And in the Bollywood rulebook, the latter also translates into career harakiri. But of course, nobody knows it better than the actress herself. So even in the midst of her ambitious Dil Bole Hadippa's release, Rani is doggedly denying her marriage rumours. "I think they have been trying to marry me off for the last three years and they are just not able to fix a date. But just to clear the air, there is no marriage and there is none happening in the future also," she tells me in a reproving note.

If statistics matter, Rani's career graph has been on a downhill since 2006. All her six big releases fell flat at the box office and the rumour mills were busy getting her married to Aditya Chopra. That her one-time loyalists Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan chose to act with young and fresh heroines didn't help her case either. Her fairy act in her last outing, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic still remains a standing joke amongst cinegoers. Then Rani went into hibernation.

It's been a year and one look at the promos of Dil Bole Hadippa, you know Rani's worked her guts out to play the dual roles of Veera and Veer Pratap Singh. "I have been working really hard on this movie. Before the shooting started, I had to go through this extensive training on cricket. Then I wanted to tone up my body to look like an athlete.

In the process I started enjoying the weight loss and the toning bit," she enthuses. So you get to see a fantastically toned Rani in a never-before avatar -- bikini tops and hot pants and gyrating in a shower. But it's her wide-eyed Sardarji act that's been widely discussed. How did she prepare herself for the role? "I think acting comes naturally to me so I don't need to prepare myself for any role. I only worked on my cricket, as I didn't know how to hold a bat or walk with the pads. As for my character, I picked up certain things from the people whom I remember. I had many Sardar friends in school," she avers.

So has she mastered cricket now? "Oh god no! she protests, "I think, I can just about hit the ball with my bat as I didn't want to make a fool of myself."

Then there is the matter of her sizzling chem istry with Shahid Kapur. I tell her that I am mpressed with her dancing skills; she's matched Kapur at every step! "Thank you.

I have always loved dancing but trust me, it was no mean task to dance with him,"

she chuckles. I wonder whether she remembers the Pepsi commercial chuckles. I wonder whether she members the Pepsi commercial hat they did together? " Of course, I was around 17 then and I remem ber him being in awe of me. But I was also relatively new trying to get things right," she says. And yes, she thinks they look great yes, she thinks they look great together and tells me that she's get ting good feedback for her look add ing, "Having Shahid in the film, makes it very fresh and contempo rary. He is looking so good that every time he would come on the set, I used to tell him "Oh my God, Shahid you are looking so handsome!" looking so handsome!" So what's the secret of her new toned look? "I did a lot of power yoga, cardio and a lot of weight training to tone up my body. I was also required to avoid my favourite macher-jhol (fish curry) and mishti (sweets). But after that I got into a balanced diet mode. I realised that the food you must eat is the one that is good for a balanced diet mode. I realised that the food you must eat is the one that is good for you," she offers.

Any fond memories of DBH? "We were shooting the song where I was dressed up as the Sardarji and coincidentally Aamir was shooting an ad at Yash Raj Films while SRK was there for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and both of them were quiet taken in by my look. Aamir came and helped me put my moustache. Aamir and SRK Food Fish made by her mom are two very special people in my life and I was happy to have them on the set on my first day of shoot," offers Rani.

Heard her young Sardarji act even made her popular on the sets. She agrees laughingly, "Our unit members used to be very friendly with me when I was Veer, but when I turned to Veera, they will go back to their respectful self. Even Shahid found it more relaxing when I turned into Veer as he felt I am just another guy. I really enjoyed being a boy. It's a character very close to my heart."

We switch off from DBH for a while. It's been a decade of characters, has there been times when she just wanted to give it all up? "No way,"

she sounds shocked, I feel I can go another 17 years from here. It has been a great journey because I worked with great people, lovely directors, producers and great co-actors."

I wonder about her childhood movie inspirations, did she always want to be an actress? "I used to be in awe of my aunt Debashree Roy (Bengali actress). I used to go see her in the studios and when I entered her makeup room, I would feel that this is a fantasy world. And of course, I watched a lot of Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit movies. They hugely influenced me. I don't think anybody can replace them," she states adding, "Today I see my niece is in awe of me.

When I am getting ready for work, I see her watching me."

As we wind up, I ask her, so what's your status message today? "Hadippa (Hurrah), my heart just says hadippa. I'm keeping my fingers crossed."

WANTED or DIL BOLE HADIPPA - What does the buzz state?

September 18, 2009

A month before the much awaited 3 way clash on Diwali, when BLUE, ALL THE BEST and MAIN AURR MRS. KHANNA will all release on the same day, there is another clash waiting to happen. Today, WANTED will come face to face with DIL BOLE HADIPPA.

- WANTED has Salman Khan. DIL BOLE HADIPPA has a much refined and improved Rani Mukherjee with the 'kameena' of the season Shahid Kapoor.

- WANTED is an out and out action film. DIL BOLE HADIPPA is about celebration, romance and sports.

- Salman has left no stone unturned to make WANTED visible at every nook and corner of the country. Rani Mukherjee has travelled all the way to Toronto to premier her film in the 'firang land'.

- WANTED took some time to reach the finishing line. DIL BOLE HADIPPA too didn't quite meet the original schedule and has seen a delayed release.

Frankly, it's difficult to choose between the two films when they hit the screens this Friday.

As a movie enthusiast, you want both the films to be good, both the films to open well, both the films to work over a long period of time as well. You also want Salman Khan to regain his lost market with back to back flops like YUUVRAAJ and GOD TUSSI GREAT HO (discounting break-even runners like HEROES and HELLO where he was in a special appearance).

On the other hand you want something similar for Rani Mukerjee too who would soon want to forget debacles that went by the name of THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC and LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG (while discounting SAAWARIYA). Moreover, you also want Shahid Kapoor to further push his way into the top league with yet another big success.

Really, if at all there was a game of favourites, both films would get equal marks.

DBH and Wanted give Bollywood a ray of hope
Friday, September 18, 2009, 11:22 [IST]

Dark clouds, which kept hovering over had to go and they are all set to go this week to welcome bright sunshine day on Friday. Yes, after three consecutive disastrous weeks, here comes a ray of hope with two big films releasing on this Friday. Both the flicks have potential to impress the critics. And even if they don’t, there is nothing that can stop audience to witness for themselves the position of the films. Let’s have a look over these two bigges we are raving about, and seewhat makes them worth giving a shot!

Dil Bole Hadippa!: Yash Raj Banner’s, latest star Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee in a ‘Sikh’ and never seen before super-sexy attire. Ain’t these elements enough to get millions of hearts out there? Yes, Dil Bole Hadippa! indeed comes across as a complete entertainer. Many comparisons have been made with Yash Raj’s former creation Chak De! India, due to sports element, but that gives Dil Bole Hadippa! an edge over the other film releasing this week. Another interesting fact about this film is that it also serves, as a re-launch vehicle of Anurag Singh who’s Raqeeb did not really work wonders at the box-office. So, how the captain of the ship fares this time with YRF’s backing remains to be seen. Surely Dil Bole Hadippa will be interesting to watch.

Wanted: Salman Khan is indeed the USP of Wanted. However, another strong reason to venture in this film is choreographer turned director Prabhu Deva. Wanted is an action-thriller and has all the elements in place to woo the audience to the theatres. Vigorous promotions and a huge hype have already marketed this film in the minds of people. Salman in never seen before energetic avatar has created buzz among his fans. So, this one again has got loads of potential to create magic.

I suggest girls try their hand at cricket: Rani Mukerji (Interview)

September 18th, 2009 - 2:18 pm ICT by IANS - By Robin Bansal

New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) She was not a cricket fanatic but after preparing for her role in the just released “Dil Bole Hadippa!”, Rani Mukerji has become a huge fan of the game. She not only wishes to go and watch it in the stadium, but also suggests that more girls should try their hand at the sport.

“It’s a great sport to play… people say it’s a gentleman’s game but it is a ladies’ game too because it is a lot of fun. I would in fact tell a lot of girls to try their hand in cricket,” Rani told IANS.

“I would also love to go and see a game now in the stadium because watching it there is much more exciting than watching it on TV. Now that I know the game, it’s become pretty interesting for me to watch. Now I know there are so many ways to get out in the game other than what I knew of just a run out or a catch out.

“I wasn’t into cricket at all. I would rarely watch a match if it was a very interesting one as I wasn’t really educated in the game. When you don’t know much about the game, you can’t enjoy it,” Rani said.

She dons the garb of a Sikh in the romantic comedy to highlight a woman’s aspirations for cricket. Playing the part involved “rigorous training sessions” for Rani.

“I trained for six months in cricket and tried to learn it to the best of my ability because it was important for my character to know the game very well. I didn’t even know how to hold the bat correctly. So for me, to start from there to hit the shot was satisfying.

“I wanted to start shooting for the film after I had trained for the game. I took training from a lady called Anjali who has been a cricketer for the Indian women’s team and has played in the world cup also,” she said.

Produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films, “Dil Bole Hadippa!” has been directed by debutant Anurag Singh. The movie was premiered at the 34th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) recently.

It also stars Shahid Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil and item girls Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra.

The 31-year-old Rani also underwent a strict “weight training and yoga” regime to “tone” up her body for the character in tandem with her cricket lessons.

“I started losing weight because I wanted to look like a cricketer in the movie - very athletic and very thin. I really worked hard to change the structure of my body. I did a lot of yoga and weight training.

“It took me around eight months to tone up my body and after that I took weight training to tone specific part of my body. So it took me about a year in total to prepare myself,” she explained.

Rani was last seen in cameos in “Luck By Chance” (2009) and “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” (2008), after a full-length role in “Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic” (2008).

Asked what was keeping the actress busy all this while, she said: “The only thing that was keeping me busy was this film and the rest of the time I was spending with my niece Mysha. That’s been my life pretty much since last year.”

Rani’s future projects include a voiceover for animated movie “Koochie Koochie Hota Hai”.

Shahid Kapoor wants link up with Rani
Friday, September 18, 2009, 11:36 [IST]
By Raymond Ronamai

What is cooking between Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee [^]? Nothing. Shahid has been linked with his co-stars from Amrita Rao to Vidya Balan to Priyanka Chopra , so, he is surprised with the indifferent attitude of the rumourmongers this time. He just can't believe that he has not been linked to Rani, his co-star in Dil Bole Hadippa.

Shahid said that both he and Rani are amused with the fact that the media has not linked them in spite of their on-screen romance. Meanwhile, he had fun working with her. He said that it was great to play her hero, considering that he acted with her in an ad years ago when she was already a big star.

Besides Dil Bole Hadippa, produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Anurag Singh, Shahid has a string of films on hand. Chance De Dance with Genelia D'Souza is scheduled for release in November and then Paathshala will follow. He is currently shooting for another Yash Raj film directed by Parmeet Sethi and then he will take up his father's film.

Watch out for more from Shahid. It's just the beginning!

Rani Mukerjee uncensored
Posted on 18 September 2009.

NEW DELHI: Rani Mukerjee was in a not-so-serious mood ahead of the release of her much awaited film Dil Bole Hadippa. After a long hiatus, Rani will be seen playing a Rani Mukerjee Punjabi kudi and an aspiring Sikh cricketer from Punjab. The dazzling diva from tinsel town reveals all about her role in the film, on tips from SRK and Aamir, her new relationship status and more…

Hadippa for Rani!

After a long break, Rani will soon be seen in a new avatar in Dil Bole Hadippa that is releasing today. The actress, who was in the capital on Wednesday with her co-star Shahid Kapur, is eagerly waiting for her film to hit the big screen and just cannot stop screaming hadippa! Although Salman Khan’s Wanted will also release today, Rani has no doubts that his film will be a success. “Salman is a very dear friend of mine and I am looking forward to watch his film and he should see mine,” says the actress.

Hadippa in Toronto!

The film, which recently premiered at the Toronto Film Festival has already put Rani on a high and she is now hoping to get an equally good response back home. “It has been an amazing start. I am overwhelmed to see the film being premiered at an international film festival. I got such an amazing response that I felt as if I am watching it in a Delhi theatre.”
Easy AdSense by Unreal
Rani gets tips from SRK, Aamir

Talking about playing a Sikh in the film, Rani reveals that it was SRK who gave her tips on cricket for her role. “Shah Rukh gave me several tips on cricket for my character in the movie,” Rani said. “Aamir helped me with the moustache…I was shooting a song with Rakhi and he told me how I should put it with a little smile so that it doesn’t hurt,” she added.

Rani’s uncensored avatar

Rani seemed to be in no mood for serious-talk. When asked about her and Shahid’s alleged link-ups with their respective co-stars, Rani jokingly announced that she is linking herself up with Shahid this time. A blushing Shahid candidly agreed to her and left the audience giggling.

We hope the actress’ new look in her film will be as exciting as her uncensored antics.

‘Wanted’, ‘…Hadippa!’ bring audiences back to theatres

September 18th, 2009 - 10:42 pm ICT by IANS -

New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) After a month’s lull, courtesy the lean Ramzan period, multiplexes were abuzz again Friday with two big starrers “Dil Bole Hadippa!” and “Wanted” drawing people to the theatres and doing good business.
“Both movies have done good business with an average opening of around 60 percent.
In fact, ‘Wanted’ is a must watch for Salman (Khan) fans. The movies will pick up gradually, specially since it’s an extended weekend with Eid on Monday,” Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, told IANS.

“We have kept a 55-45 ratio for both the movies across all our properties as both have the potential for a smooth shelf life,” he added.

A source from PVR Cinemas said: “‘Dil Bole Hadippa!’ and ‘Wanted’ both have brought us relief after Ramzan. While the former is good in multiplexes, the latter is very good in single-screens. We’ve had an approximate 50 percent occupancy till now and we are expecting good business, courtesy the long weekend.”

Produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films, “Dil Bole Hadippa!” has been directed by debutant Anurag Singh. It stars Rani Mukerji, Shahid Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil and item girls Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra.

Salman-starrer “Wanted” has been distributed by Sahara One Motion Pictures and Surinder Kapoor. Produced by Boney Kapoor, it is dancer-choreographer Prabhudheva’s first Hindi movie as a director. It stars Ayesha Takia Azmi in the lead.

“Reports for both movies have been quite encouraging. We’ve kept 10 shows each for both the movies and are expecting a good business in the coming week. It will pick up over the weekend,” said Munish Sharma, general manager (marketing), Satyam Cineplex.

Amit Awasthi, manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas at Noida, is, however, disappointed with the initial business.

“Opening for both the movies has been average only around 50 percent… none of the shows for either has been houseful since the morning despite having 22 shows for ‘…Hadippa!’ and 14 shows for ‘Wanted’ across all our eight screens,” said Awasthi.

“But ‘Wanted’ is better than ‘…Hadippa!’ and we are hoping the movies will pick up momentum over the long weekend. They will also have a good run of almost two weeks,” he added.

Said Amit Shah, chief manager (programming) of DLF DT cinemas: ” ‘Dil Bole Hadippa!’ has done an average business of 45 percent vis-a-vis ‘Wanted’ that has brought in only 30 percent despite having close to 10 shows each for both the movies. We are, however, hoping the business to pull up Friday evening onwards as there are three holidays coming up.”

The multiplexes are confident that both the movies will maintain a “healthy” run on the big screen despite Ashutosh Gowariker’s “What’s Your Raashee?” releasing Sep 25.

“‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ and ‘Wanted’ won’t get affected despite ‘What’s Your Rashee?,” said Raizada.

“‘…Raashee?’ is a long movie spanning around three-and-half hours so we won’t be able to organise that many shows for it. We’ll have to fill in the space with others and considering the other two are already A-listers, they’ll have a smooth stretch,” he added.

Rani has has been my inspiration: Rakhi Sawant
By Websmaster, 15 September 2009, Filmicafe.com

Did you see the trailer?
Yes, indeed. I saw my song. It’s beautiful.

What were the reactions?
Yes, the reactions were really good. My friends went to watch Love Aaj Kal and they saw our trailer and they liked it. They said Rakhi, you are there in it but only your few glimpses could be seen. So I said yes, because I am special and if you want see me in the full role you will have to watch the movie in the theatre to see me.

Your experience while shooting.
It was really good. First of all, I’ll tell you how I got this film. One fine day Anurag just called me and said that he would like to sign me for a YRF movie. I just could not believe my ears. Then I met him and he told me about my character. I was so excited to get an YRF film to do. I used to get butterflies in my stomach till the time we actually started shooting. I just couldn’t believe that I will be sharing screen space with Rani, who has been my inspiration. I still remember the day we started shooting and everybody was there for the Mahurat-SRK, Gauri and Yashji. I was just dumbstruck.

Your experience with director Anurag Singh.
I have worked with so many big directors, but Anurag is just so good. He is very soft spoken and he makes us understand so nicely what we need to do. He is too much into detailing. He will give you the details about everything right from the costume to the eye shadow, everything. He has directed the movie so well that we didn’t feel we are doing a movie. With this film I have also got a chance to show my acting skills.

What is your character all about?
I am playing a character called Shanno Amritsari who is a very arrogant female and thinks no end of herself. She is very proud of her dance and talent. I play a dancer in the Nautanki Group Of Punjab. I am sure everyone will like it.

Tell us about Rani Mukherjee as a boy and Rani Mukherjee as a girl.
It was beautiful. She is a great actress and I just could gather enough of courage to act in front of her. When she came on the set in the get up of a boy, I just could not recognize her and she started fooling around with me and I seriously thought for once that a boy is trying to flirt with me. And then when I realized it was Rani Mukherjee I laughed my heart out.

Sherlyn says that you are an entertainer off the set as well, what do you
have to say about Sherlyn?

She is a very good actress and a very good human being. She has got a beautiful figure and a lovely face. She is very humble and if she said that for me, I definitely like it. We were always laughing, having fun on the set. Our rooms were just next to each other. We got along really well and had a good bonding. I wish she gets more films and she has done good work in the film.

Your experience with Shahid Kapoor.
Although this is my first movie with him. I know him since a long time. I used to go for gymming where he also used to come. I can still remember the most memorable incident that happened with me on the sets of Hadippa. I was doing a song in the nautanki and just got myself entangled in a wire which connected to the huge lights placed on the sets. The light was just about to land on my head and suddenly Shahid held the lights and prevented it from landing on my head. He shouted at the people around for such carelessness and said that I would have been dead had it fallen on my head. So I felt nice that he took my side in spite of being such a big star.

Your experience with Rani Mukherjee.
Rani is so nice. I just wish her loads of luck and happiness. I still remember that when Anurag narrated the story to Rani and told her that Shanno’s character is being played by myself, she was happy to know that fact. I still remember that we used to share the tiffin that used to come from her house and that only shows that she is so down to earth in spite of being such a great actress.

Tell us about the song Bhangra Bistar.
I just love this song. It is picturised on me and Rani. I am looking very hot and sexy in the song. I am sure people will love the song and it will be a super hit.

Who would you choose from Shahid, Anurag and Rani if they were on Rakhi Ka Swayamvar?
Shahid, Anurag and Rani as a boy. She is looking stunning as a boy. If given the liberty, I will put the varmala on all three of them.

Your experience working with YRF.
It was amazing. I didn’t come to know when did the movie start and when did it end. It was so smooth. Everything was so systematic. No hassles, lodging, costumes, eating - everything was made available. Everything was so well coordinated. I was feeling like a queen. I pray that I get to do more roles in YRF movies and keep getting associated with the banner again and again.

When does your heart say Hadippa?

When I see Rani Mukherjee.

What should the audience expect from the film?
I am confident that the audience and my fans will definitely love the film. This is my first film as an actress. They should watch this film because it is totally different from any other story. This is the debut of Anurag who has come up with a different subject. Rani is playing a boy, a different character and Shahid is playing a different character. Pritam has given outstanding music. I am sure the film will be a very big hit!

Can Rani regain her tinsel throne?

By

Bindu Rai on Saturday, September 19, 2009

Rani Mukherjee does not mince her words. The Bollywood star has a bone to pick with the media and she's ready to face the challenge without falling back on the used and abused celebrity crutch no A-lister can do without: a dedicated publicist.

The actress, who wowed critics and audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this week during the premiere of Dil Bole Hadippa (playing in UAE cinemas), found her film promotional events hijacked by questions about a secret marriage to filmmaker and heir to the Yash Raj Films production empire, Aditya Chopra.

Mukherjee, of course, rubbishes the claims and blames her aversion to public relations firms resulting in this dramatic turn of events.

"I am not the kind of person who enjoys being fussed over by strangers or handing over the reins of my life to one individual who represents me to the world," the 31-year-old tells Emirates Business over a crackling phone line.

However, even the bad connection cannot soften her words or disguise the passion, when she adds: "I'm a self-made woman who has always made my own decisions from the time I entered the film industry 13 years ago. So, now that I'm famous, why should I suddenly stop making these decisions and allow someone else to communicate my words? This person could even have his or her own agenda and twist my words."

Yet, the flip side to Mukherjee's media blackout are the rumours that brandish her as a homewrecker second time around – the first was five years ago over an alleged affair with actor Govinda. The actress, of course, insists she is innocent and states this is the price she must pay for sticking to her conviction.

"The only reason I'm answering queries now is because I feel the need to clarify things to my fans and filmmakers who are now hesitant about approaching me with scripts, lest these rumours have a grain of truth in them," comes her response.

This is a hard line to swallow considering she is the same actress who bagged India's National Award, the country's highest honour, for her stunning portrayal of a deaf and blind woman in 2005's Black.

Ask her, and she admits this is a burden for her to carry. But even before a hint of vulnerability seeps through, the fiery Mukherjee returns to form, saying: "Even so, I still refuse to become a PR-generated star and join the same movement that has allowed this new batch of wannabes into Bollywood who don't even possess the qualifications to justify their presence there."

No matter how miffed Mukherjee may be feeling towards the media, even she cannot deny the power it wields in a film's overall marketing plan.

"Of course. When Ghulam released in 1998, all we had was a handful of print media and three TV channels promoting the film to the masses. These days, its hundreds of print and electronic media personnel vying for our attention, be it from entertainment, music, news or even sports.

"Once the interviews are over, the actors are then herded off to reality shows on TV to generate even more publicity," she says.

"A lot of this movement has to do with the boom of new media and the lack of time, causing the audience to watch limited TV and only sticking to one or two stations that they enjoy. If we want to catch them, we need to be everywhere."

Is this why Mukherjee is so eager to tour the international festival circuit, tapping into a global audience that has suddenly tuned into Bollywood post films such as Slumdog Millionaire?

"If we are talking about Dil Bole Hadippa in Toronto, then I think its appeal to the Indian diaspora in Canada is way larger than the international audience," she states. "Bollywood has gone global and that is now visible with a larger Indian presence at international film festivals, along with a wider distribution network of our films in cinemas abroad. Having said that, my new film is a typical Bollywood potboiler and would not really appeal to those who don't appreciate Indian kitsch."

Dil Bole Hadippa sees Mukherjee play a village belle who's also a cricket fanatic. When she realises women are unable to enrol in the sport on a state level, she disguises herself as a Sikh boy and joins the team, under the captainship of Shahid Kapur. Producer Yash Raj Films is shrewdly marketing this cricketcentric film four days prior to the ICC Championship Trophy that kicks off in South Africa.

"We are not just tapping into the cricket frenzy because it's the news of the hour," comes the pat reply. "Cricket is an integral part of the film."

The actress admits she was clueless about the sport before the film and had to train for six months before she was able to effectively hold the bat and score runs.

"This is such a bright and funny film, that cricket fan or not, you will still enjoy it for its entertainment value," she says, adding: "I know I did; after my spate of weepy dramas over the past few years, this is a welcome relief."

Brand Power

With a career spanning 13 years with India's top production houses, Rani Mukherjee should be ranked as highly as Bollywood greats Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor in terms of brand power.

However, while Bachchan demands up to Rs50 million (Dh3.8m) for a single endorsement deal and Kapoor has all the A-list brands in her kitty (including Pepsi, Airtel communications and Head and Shoulders shampoo), the Mukherjee name refuses to create a flutter among India's corporates. This appears surprising considering the actress has appeared in India's Filmfare magazine's Top 10 Power List from 2005, for three years consecutively.

By 2007, Mukherjee was the highest female brand ambassador in Bollywood, paying Rs13m in taxes from endorsements alone. At the time she had Nestlé's Munch chocolates, Fanta cola, Titan Raga watches, Good Knight mosquito repellent, Chevrolet Aveo and Dabur Amla hair oil to lend her name to. Today, she's down to three.

Mukherjee calls her lack of endorsements a personal choice, saying: "I currently endorse three brands and this is because I have no time to take on more work.

"I get offers every other day, but as a celebrity it is important my public profile is not tarnished. Because of this, I choose brands that have credibility in the market."

Currently, it seems only Dabur, Titan and Good Knight have retained that credibility.

Critics are linking this power outage to her advancing age, which allegedly resulted in the actress losing out her Fanta deal to the much younger Genelia D'Souza earlier this year.

However, industry analysts predict Mukherjee has the power to turnaround her affairs depending on the box office outcome of her current Dil Bole Hadippa. Only time will tell.

Movie Review
Dil Bole Hadippa! (2009)

September 19, 2009
Cross-Dressing to Go to Bat for India and for Love, Too

By RACHEL SALTZ
Published: September 19, 2009

What’s a girl to do when she’s a world-class cricket batter, but the men won’t let her try out for the team? Slap on a mustache and a beard and go for it, of course. In “Dil Bole Hadippa!” (“My Heart Goes Hooray!”), Veera (Rani Mukherjee) becomes Veer to play on her local team, which just happens to represent India in a yearly match against Pakistan.
More About This Movie

Directed by Anurag Singh, “Dil” takes place in a colorful Punjab, with amber waves of grain and sassy local girls who chomp on sugar cane. It’s a fantasy of the Indian heartland, a perfect setting for splashy musical numbers and an appropriate one for a film that itself is fantasy: part sports tale, part nationalist love story, part feminist comedy.

As a sports movie “Dil” lacks the focus and excitement of “Lagaan” (another cricket flick) or “Chak de India” (about a female field hockey team). It works better as romance. Rohan (Shahid Kapoor), the coach who’s returned from London, falls for the local girl Veera, in the process rejecting Westernized Soniya. (She dresses like many recent Bollywood heroines, but in an old-fashioned twist, her sexy get-ups — she wears short shorts, a halter and a Burberry scarf to watch a cricket practice — are part of what make her the wrong girl.)

While Mr. Singh plays Veera’s drag more for laughs than for any sexual tension it might produce (Rohan never feels drawn to Veer, as he might in a Shakespeare play), Ms. Mukherjee seems to be having the time of her life as Veer/Veera.

“Dil” might seem formulaic at times. But as often happens in Bollywood, stars easily trump formula. Ms. Mukherjee’s enthusiasm is catchy, and when Veera delivers a feminist speech at the end, she’s moving, too.

DIL BOLE HADIPPA!

Opened on Friday nationwide.

Directed by Anurag Singh; written by Jaya-Aparajita; director of photography, Sudeep Chatterjee; edited by Ritesh Soni; music by Pritam; choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant, Chinni Prakash and Rekha Prakash; production designer, Sukant Panigrahy; produced by Aditya Chopra; released by Yash Raj Films. In Hindi, with English subtitles. Running time: 2 hours 20 minutes. This film is not rated.

WITH: Shahid Kapoor (Rohan Singh), Rani Mukherjee (Veera Kaur), Anupam Kher (Vikramjit Singh), Dalip Tahil (Liyaqat Ali Khan), Rakhi Sawant (Shanno Amritsari), Sherlyn Chopra (Soniya) and Vrajesh Hirjee (Chamkila).

Rani ka Dil Bole Hadippa

Rani Mukerji is back this week after over a year with Dil Bole Hadippa. The sparkling actress who has done a wonderful job in the film, talks about her new body and glamorous image and her expectations from the film.

Posted Image

On her new look and toned body

When you tone your body, you feel confident about flaunting your body and wearing certain clothes. It’s not that I haven’t shown off my midriff or my legs before but I worked on acquiring an athletic body and wanted to show it off.

My character Veera has very limited scope to come in different avatars and even Veer is covered from top to bottom. It was the team’s idea to flaunt my body in the music video because I had worked so hard on it. The movie didn’t give me the scope to show off how hard I worked. The music video where we have taken some liberties, gave me the opportunity to show off. It wasn’t on the agenda initially; I just went with the flow during the making of Hadippa. Working out for an athletic body, putting on a beard and playing cricket well were equally difficult but you need to go through the grind if you want to reap the benefits.

Being an Indian actress you have to be glamourous also and people have got a chance to see a new side of me.

On the response to her new look

People have been extremely kind. I have got wonderful and wondrous compliments from a lot of people I have met and even on the internet. I worked very hard so it feels good.

On her expectations from the film and being a regular feature in YRF productions

I only want my audience to like my work. If they enjoy my work in the film, I have won my battle.

This film is for my fans who like to see me doing comedy and being happy. It’s a big compliment to be called a resident Yash Raj heroine but I want to do roles that are worth my while. YRF has offered me great roles that allow me to push my boundaries as an actress.
