Cooking with Stella a big hit at Toronto film fest September 17th, 2009 - 3:45 pm ICT by IANS - By Gurmukh Singh Toronto, Sep 17 (IANS) There were more white Canadians in the audience than non-whites when Dilip Mehtas directorial debut Cooking with Stella premiered to a full house at the Toronto International Film Festival. There was not a moment without laughter as this light comedy revolving around the family of a Canadian diplomat Maya (Lisa Ray), her husband Michael (Don McKellar) and their cook Stella (Seema Biswas) and nanny Tannu (Shriya Saran) unfolded on the big screen Wednesday. Turning in an outstanding performance, Seema personifies duplicity in this feature film directed by acclaimed filmmaker Deepa Mehtas brother. A cunning old hand at the high commission, she has perfected the art of manipulating her non-suspecting foreign employers. Pretending to be a devout Christian, who prays to Mother Mary every day, Stella begins her manipulation games even before the new diplomat family has settled on the compound of the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi. She steals cash and small jewellery, inflates grocery and laundry bills, steals duty-free items as Maya is busy with her new job and Michael tries to be a caring house husband in charge of his little son. The audience had a good laugh when Stellas husband is shown enjoying whisky stolen from the diplomat family. When Michael decides to learn Indian cooking from Stella and offers her additional money per lesson, Stella continues with her cunning game preferring dakshina (alms) to extra money. When young Tannu joins as a nanny, Stella tries to bribe her to collude with her. But the honest nanny slowly starts exposing the wily old cook who even enacts the drama of her own kidnapping for ransom. The unsuspecting diplomat family pays $40,000 for her release. But Stellas game is exposed when Tannu finds the money in her home. Seema, who also featured in Deepas Oscar nominated Water, said: I am very happy to be associated with this film and my role. It is wonderful to work with Dilip and Deepa. Cooking with Stella was shot at the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi. It is the first such film shot on a diplomatic place. We sent the script to the high commission and the government in Ottawa. So the film was basically shot on Canadian soil, Dilip, who co-wrote the screenplay with his sister Deepa, said amid laughter. Donna Glezakos, who was one of hundreds of white Canadians in the audience, said: It is a typically Indian movie and I love the comical role of Stella played to perfection. Laura Mitchell, another white Canadian, said: After Dil Bole Hadippa, this is my second Indian movie. It is very funny. The topic was not heavy unlike so many films in the festival. Biswas has played her role superbly. But Rani (Mukerji) was great (in Dil Bole Hadippa. |

Shahid Kapoor taking too much risk? Tuesday, September 15, 2009 The final countdown for the release of Dil Bole Hadippa has begun and the attention has fallen on Shahid Kapoor again. He has begun the year on a good note with his first release Kaminey turning a huge hit. But has he taken too much risk by choosing to act with Rani Mukherjee? Buzz up!Having acted with girls younger than him in his previous films, it is not sure if the audience will accept Shahid-Rani pair in their latest outing because Rani looks way older than Shahid. It looks like Shahid took a calculated risk, as Rani is still a big name though she has being going through a rough phase of late. Moreover, Shahid has a string of releases this year Kaminey (released), Dil Bole Hadippa and Chance Pe Dance. His other films Paathshala and Milenge Milenge could hit the theatres anytime, as they are also in the post production phase. Shahid had expressed his fear for overexposure recently. But what if all the films work out at the box office? Life is just a game of luck. What say Shahid? |

Torontos Dil Bole Hadippa IndiaGlitz [Thursday, September 17, 2009] Dil Bole Hadippa had gracefully walked the Red Carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival, for its World Premiere on 13th Sept. The movies debut director Anurag Singh and its leading lady Rani Mukherji had been there to promote the movie. The foreign audience were spell bound when a team of colourful Bhangra dancers, organised by the Yash Raj Films, broke into Punjabi jig to add more liveliness to the promotion. According to reports, Dil Bole Hadippa was enjoyed by nearly 2000 people on its first day of screening. The movies screening turned out to be a treat especially for the Indians there for their response was overwhelming. Feeling quite elated, Rani said, "It was an honour to have the film shown to such a lovely and receptive audience. The people in Toronto are lovely and all my anxiety disappeared after seeing the response." Rani became the apple of peoples eye there when she turned out in a stunning rich pink off shoulder gown; fluttering her smoking eyes Rani graciously gave wide smiles to all. We really hope the same excitement flies down here once Dil Bole Hadippa releases! |

Dil Bole Hadippa! Shak interviews Rani Mukherji Thursday, 17 September 2009 Whether you've always been curious about all this song and dance palaver or you're already an impassioned Bollywood fan, then hopefully our new series of Bollywood podcasts and interviews will soon be your number one stop for the latest Bollywood film releases and where you'll come to hear the stars. If you know nothing about Bollywood but have certain stereotypes in mind, you might be surprised to learn that these days, there's less running across fields and dancing around trees, and sometimes you actually see kissing! Dil Bole Hadippa! - a typically silly title but perfectly summarizing the aura of this colourful, vibrant, happy and fun family movie. Is it still a man's, man's man's world? Of course it is. That's why a fesity Punjabi girl (played by husky voiced and multi-talented, Rani Mukherji) has to put on a (very convincing) stick-on moustache and beard and dress up as a Sikh man, to pursue her dreams of playing Cricket in India's big league. Her (his?!) romantic interest in the movie is played by Shahid Kapur - notoriously one of the best dancers in the industry. Which is a good thing since the soundtrack to DBH! is ear-catchingly brilliant. Rani came to town on Monday 14th September and gave us hungry broadcasters an open and pleasant press conference. Shame I was fasting so couldn't tuck into all the food and drink they had on offer. This is the perfect place to introduce our first interview. Click below to hear my full conversation with the stupidly sexy Rani Mukherji and look at a couple of promos from the movie. Feedback is always welcome, hope you enjoy it! |

Interview : Rani Mukherjee The last couple of years haven't been that great for Rani Mukherjee. But the petite actress is all set to bounce back with her forthcoming release, DIL BOLE HADIPPA. Rani Mukherjee in conversation with our Correspondent. It's more than a year that your last film THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC released. Yes, I was taking my time. Some projects came my way but I thought of choosing my films. Now DIL BOLE HADIPPA is releasing and I will be back in the theatres once again. (Smiles) It has been a bit of an extended wait for my fans but I am back now. In fact, all your last few films have been under the Yash Raj banner. Is this again a very planned move? You can say so but at the same time I am also waiting for good offers. If someone comes with a good offer I will definitely consider that. I think Yash Raj is a great banner to work with. I have already done quite a few films with Yash Raj and they come up with some wonderful stories. Right from TA RA RUM PUM, THODA PYAAR to DIL BOLE HADIPPA, everything has been so different. I am really excited about DIL BOLE HADIPPA because it's a very different kind of film from what I have done so far. "I am rather looking younger than Shahid." In fact you play both Veer and Veera in this film. Was that difficult? (Laughs) It was actually a culmination of too many things. It was fun, exciting and challenging... at the same time quite a lot of hard work went into it. I am really looking forward to how the audiences accept me in the get-up of a Sardar. This is something that I haven't done before. But your co-star Shahid is a bit younger to you. How do you think the audience is going to accept that? Well, Shahid is a great co-star, very hardworking and focused. He is looking great in the film ... in fact we both are looking great and I am happy with the way the film has shaped up. As far as the age goes, I had to work a lot on my body...undergo a fitness regime and I feel I am rather looking younger than Shahid. Apparently, you had to work a lot on your body to get into the skin of the character? Indeed I had to work for months and shed a lot. I am a complete foodie so that was a bit hard... but I used to take the fitness regime very seriously. It was hectic but that's fine with me if the role demands so. I used to wake early in the morning and then train for two-three hours. The film is also set against the backdrop of cricket... (Smiles). That was another great experience. I had to almost train for six months to get an almost complete grasp over the game. I needed to look like a professional cricketer, how they exactly hold the bat and even understand the technicalities of the game. But I enjoyed every bit of it. Okay...so are you happy with the way your career has shaped up? I am perfectly okay with that. I have done some really good films. But of late there hasn't been too much success at the box office? At times it happens and I can't do much about that. There was a time when everyone wanted me to see in serious roles, which had a lot of meat. I did and got successful. Then somehow a few didn't work and then they wanted to see me in a light role when I did THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC and then it didn't work... so now I am doing what I feel I will do best. CHECK OUT: Toronto Bole... Hadippa!!! At the same time controversies too don't seem to elude you... (Pauses). This is something that is really very disturbing. It has affected me a lot. I really don't understand the reason behind it. Over the last couple of years some or the other news keeps out about my marriage. It has seriously affected my career because now the directors think twice before offering me a film...they feel that if she is going to get married in a while, it will affect the film. So how do you tackle them? Marriage is just one of the rumours. I am completely clueless and helpless. I hope they stop somewhere. My only focus is my films and that is where my interest lies. So the best thing to do is to just ignore them. What else can I do? I have been fortunate to work with some of the best actors and directors in my career so far... but rumours do really upset me. |

Rani wants audience to watch Wanted for Salman Updated on Thursday, September 17, 2009, 16:53 IST New Delhi: Rani Mukerji, who will be seen in `Dil Bole Hadippa` after a long hiatus, seems to be enjoying the promotional extravaganza surrounding the release of the film. With her newly-attained well-toned body, the light eyed Mukerji is already garnering all the attention. In a candid chit-chat with Ankita Shukla and Bhavna Khullar of Spicezee.com, Rani talked about her comeback vehicle `Dil Bole Hadippa`, her novel experience of playing a Sardar boy and her co-star Shahid Kapur. Excerpts: Q. Tell us something about Dil Bole Hadippa. Rani: Dil Bole Hadippa is a very special film. I, Shahid and our director Anurag Singh have created the film with a lot of love. Its a family entertainer and will be a complete paisa vasool. Q. Salman Khans Wanted will also be releasing on the same day. What do you have to say about that? Rani: You know I would like to tell the audience to please go to theatres and see Wanted, because Salman is a friend. I want both the films to work and Im sure there is an audience for all the films. Q. How do you feel about the kind of reception Hadippa got at Toronto Film Fest? Rani: Toronto was unbelievable and overwhelming. Though I was not expecting it, because its a different atmosphere there, and they dont really accept commercial films. But it felt like watching a film at a Delhi theatre. This kind of reception on an international level makes me worry less about the response it would get here. I wish Toronto rubs in everywhere. Q. How hard was it for you to learn Punjabi for this one? Rani: Well, Ive always been surrounded by my Punjabi friends, and Ive also had to deal with Punjabi people in almost all of my films. So, its nothing new for me. Q. Which character of yours would you prefer, Veer or Veera? Rani: Well, playing Veer was very challenging for me as it`s something that I have not done before. To play a man is so different, something completely new for me. I enjoyed it a lot more than playing Veera because Veeras character is something normal and regular. If I had to choose between the two, I would choose Veer for I really enjoyed being a boy in Hadippa. This is a character which I am going to remember forever. Q. There were reports that Aamir and Shah Rukh used to be there to help you on the sets of the film. Is that true? Rani: Yes, Aamir and Shah Rukh did help me on the sets. Aamir helped me so much with the moustache. You know, I was shooting for a scene with Rakhi (Sawant), and Aamir kept guiding me about how to get the moustache glued properly. And Shah Rukh helped me a lot with the cricket part of it. He taught me a lot about the game. Q. How was it working with Shahid? Rani: It was a pleasure. Shahid is extremely hard working and dedicated, I believe that is what is going to take him a long way. He is really an asset to the film. Shahid has added a contemporary and fresh feel to Hadippa. Q. You seem to be really fond of that word Hadippa, right? Rani: Yes, both Shahid and I are in the Hadippa mode and whenever were happy, we scream it out loudly. It feels great |

Dil Bole Hadippa! is a very audience friendly film: Shahid Kapoor Shahid Kapoor talks about Dil Bole Hadippa!, working with Rani Mukherji twice over, and why the audience should go and watch this movie Shahid, do you feel tired promoting the film extensively almost everywhere? Yes, I am feeling little bit tired but I am good. In all your past films, your name was linked invariably with all the actresses of your film but this has not happened with Dil Bole Hadippa!. No one has linked your name with Rani Mukherji, you must be feeling happy? I am really feeling very happy that my name has not been linked this time. I have no idea how it happened this time around but I am very happy about it. It is a very refreshing change and I think media got bored this time. Well, its not essential ingredient of stardom. Any married star is not able to lead a happy life because of such things but these things do happen may be no one knows about my personal life for the past couple of years but I have got used to it. I will go mad if I were to try analyzing the reasons. Did you manage to the break the ice with Rani on the first day of the shoot? On the first day of our shoot she was in the get-up of Veer and I could not recognize her. I asked my people around that where is Rani as her shot was ready and it was then that they informed me that Rani is there in the getup of a Sardar. But it was all very comfortable with her and there was no any problem, somehow we both got along really well. It was good fun actually acting with Veer and Veera, the two characters that Rani plays in the film. It was laugh riot especially with Veer; it was all good fun on the sets. Who do you like most - Veer or Veera? If I were to say Veer then I will be thrashed. I would say Veera. How were you able to manage acting with the same person in two different roles? Well, that was not much of a problem with me since I was aware of the scenes so I knew before hand that with whom will be shooting with. But hats off to Rani, there was so much of effort put from her side in both the characters. It was very challenging playing a male Sardar and then putting all those fake beards, but I think she was a big sport about all those things. She was all chilled out and relaxed and that really eased things out. Your last film Kaminey was a very intense film while Dil Bole Hadippa looks a very chilled out film, would you consider this film as a break? Yes, I think so and it actually makes me feel good. You really feel good after having acted in such films. DBH is a very audience friendly film and entertaining at the same time. I think I have different facets to me as a person. As an actor I always think of doing challenging roles but at the same time I am also of the opinion that one should also do films, which has this quotient of entertainment in them and has dollops of fun to it. Its definitely a refreshing change for me and I hope it has value for money for the audiences as well. Its important for an actor that he should not take himself seriously all the time. Its very important to do all kind of films and roles. Every film that I do cannot be a Kaminey for me, every role that I do cannot be as exciting as a Kaminey. If I get an opportunity to do such a film even once in a year, I will consider myself very fortunate and I consider myself very lucky as an actor that I get to do so much of variety. The agenda is to do all kind of films, which includes entertainers and out of the box films, which push me as an actor and surprise the audience. I think what we tend to do as actor beyond a point is that we tend to start analyzing too much as to what the audience wants to see us do. I think the audience only want to see good films and want to see characters that are portrayed honestly. Will it be right to say that you taken a step towards superstardom? I dont know and I can only hope so. I dont want to think about it. I just hope that people like my films and appreciate my work. You know I always said this before the release of Kaminey that I hope I develop a personal relationship with my audience and they see my film once and think that if Shahid has done this film then there must have been a reason behind signing the film. I only hope that I am able to build that relationship with my audience and thats the most important thing to me at this phase of my career. I think that beyond this its only a tag, God forbid that if my next two-three films were to fail at the box office then I will be called a flop actor and if those films were to run at the box office then they will start calling me something else. You should not take these things too seriously. You also went to Salmans show Dus Ka Dum to promote Dil Bole Hadippa, were there any awkwardness between both of you considering the fact that you both are not best of friends? I think its a professional thing, the producer of my film Dil Bole Hadippa asked me in the beginning if I would be comfortable going to Salmans show for the promotion of Dil Bole Hadippa and I told them that as I professional if you need my services to promote my film on any show I am always ready. I was made to feel very comfortable there; I did not feel out of the place. It went well I think. I lost to Rani in the first round itself so I was relegated to a corner watching her play the game. Salman Bhai and Rani have known each other for so many years and so there association is much longer, I dont know Salman Bhai too well. But Rani was really sweet and tried her best to make me comfortable on the sets. Why should people go and watch this film? Well there are so many reasons; I think that after a long gap I am in front of the audience with an out and out entertaining film in a commercial format. Rani and myself are working in a film for the first time. Pritam has composed the music for this film and he happens to be my favourite music director, it was Pritam only who had given music for Jab We Met and Kismat Konnection. I am playing a cricketer for the first time. So yes there are many reasons for audience to go and watch the film. Do you think that a trend has started that film plots woven around sports are sure shot success formula? No, I dont think so that you can ever define that what stories are going to work for the audience because by the time you make a film around such subjects and till the time it is released in theatres, its already two years gone and then the trends have changed by that time. One should never try following trends. Secondly as far as Dil Bole Hadippa is concerned there is a misconception that its a cricket-based film. There is cricket in the film but it acts only as the backdrop but essentially its more of an entertaining film with a love story in it. I think Chak De India was an out and out Hockey based film. The backdrop of the film demanded cricket and I dont think so that its intelligent to follow trends. How much did you enjoy your role in the film? Actually my role in this film is a bit serious also. The character has got two facets - when he is not on the field then he a regular guy who believes in fun and other normal things but when he is on field then its all about work for him. Apart from that there has always been a dilemma inside me from the very beginning that on one side I have grown up watching Hindi films and wanted to be a hero who does all types of typical things but again there is another side to me which I have inherited from my father and that is of doing performance driven films. Dil Bole Hadippa is a mixture of both for me. The most challenging thing for me was to show my audience that I can play cricket convincingly and look more like a professional cricketer. Working with Rani was an experience. I remember seeing Black and wondering that how could Rani have done it. There are lot many intense and emotional scenes with her in the film and to work with her was a challenge. I thoroughly enjoyed my role. Lastly did you miss the presence of any heroine in the film? I always used to tell Rani that there is no heroine in the film. I was always very curious and eager to know that how will Rani play Veers character because you know it can go wrong also. Its actually a very difficult space to understand, so I was very curious to know as to how will she play this role. Its not that I am looking to play a woman in any of my forthcoming films; I think the portions between Veer and me are the most entertaining portions in the film. It was almost like working with two different actors. Thanks a lot. |

Lots on the platter Medha Shri, TNN 18 September 2009, 12:00am IST Print Email Discuss Bookmark/Share Save Comment Text Size: | Shonali Nagrani was the first one to get eliminated from Khatron Ke Khiladi Level 2, but a lil birdie told us that she is going to come back with BACK WITH A BANG? We are told that Shonali will get a wildcard entry to the show. When we caught up with the stunt babe, she said, Watch out for the episodes. I dont know whether all of us who got eliminated will fight for an entry or not. Lets see who gets to go in. Shonali refused to divulge any more details about the show, but she did tell us how all the girls who participated on the show have got a lot of bruises and cuts. Everyone has bruises on their body. In fact Jesse has got bruises that might be permanent, she said. Shonali whos to visit the city next month also told us that shes landed herself a role in Vikram Bhatts Rutba. Shes cast against Rajneesh Duggal of 1920 fame. And thats not all, Shonali, who has anchored several cricket tournaments is also doing a cameo in Dil Bole Hadippa. Interestingly, Shonali plays herself in the Rani Mukerji and Shahid Kapoor starrer. Shonali confirmed saying, Im playing Shonali Nagrani, the cricket commentator, in the movie. It was fun working with two great young actors. Rani is absolutely fab in the movie and Shahid of course, is charming. |

On a hat-trick Shahid Kapoor takes a complete U-turn from his recent dark act with the light-hearted entertainer Dil Bole Hadippa! Your careers going great enough for you to literally exclaim Hadippa! How would you define life at this stage? Before Kaminey happened, it was more like a will he-wont he situation. People were posing questions like Is he taking him too seriously? Why doesnt he establish himself in the space that people like him in? Now, there is a certain sense of achievement. My father saw the film and he thought I credibly played two different characters; its a huge thing for my father to say that. There were lot of calls and messages from established people in the industry appreciating my performance. And of course, theres nothing more than junta reaction. When I walk into a theatre and people greet back in Charlies lingo, its a great feeling. How would you decode the great feeling? Well, there is happiness and fear. Happiness for the fact that something has been liked so much. As for fear, I hope to get more roles like this; a Kaminey doesnt happen to an actor every day. Not just your performance, but even your experimentation with your cute looks has got everyone gushing. Whats the secret behind your sex-appeal? (Blushes) I dont know, I really dont know. I guess its running with the horses. On a more serious note, how do you manage to conceal your lover-boy image (which most believe is inborn) to do justice to the characters you are playing? Its nice for other people to say that I am too good looking to find it difficult to play characters that are not out-and-out sweet. Honestly, I dont think I am that good looking ki main usske baare mein kuch kar hi nahin sakta. People have usually seen me in a well-groomed avatar and thats why the notion. I am particular about my looks when I am working because thats part of my job as an actor. But you should see me when I am home; I can be pretty chhalla. Are you worried that with Dil Bole Hadippa! coming close to your double-role feat, audiences may find it difficult to accept you in a completely different role, that of a county cricketer hailing from UK? Yes, the two films have come close to each other and so, until a point, I made a conscious effort to not promote Dil Bole Hadippa! I wanted to give people sometime to disassociate themselves from my previous film. But then, with the strike happening and release dates getting jam-packed, it hasnt been entirely in my control. However, I think it would have been disastrous if a film similar to Kaminey came right after it. Because nothing can live up to what people have liked already. So there is a Dil Bole Hadippa! And then there is Chance Pe Dance followed by Parmeet Sethis film and of course, dads movie. Thankfully, they all have me in different roles. Dil Bole Hadippa! celebrates the vibrant colours of Punjab. Being a Punjabi yourself, how was the experience shooting for the film? It was great fun shooting across Punjab, especially Chandigarh. I really like the cleanliness and town planning. Apart from that, I was put up at the same hotel where I stayed during the making of Jab We Met. In fact, even many of the locations where we shot were the same. So yes, there was lot of nostalgia. With Dil Bole Hadippa!, you now have an association with one of the most prestigious production banners in the industry - Yash Raj Films. Do you think you have arrived in the A-league? This is one question that is being raised across spaces. If you ask me, I dont know. I am just happy that my films are doing well; I have done different movies and they have worked. I am 28, I have worked for five years and I can choose the films that I want to do. People walk into theatres to see movies of which I am a part. At this point, I dont want to take on any more pressure. Facing the floodlights Over a year after Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, Rani Mukerji is back with what she calls one of her most enjoyable roles - a feisty small-town girl with dreams Three years after she thrilled audiences with her spunky act in Bunty Aur Babli, Rani Mukerji is once again playing a spirited small-town girl in her latest, Dil Bole Hadippa! (DBH). For many, the vibrant backdrop of Punjab and the ambitious nature of the lead characters in both the films bear a striking resemblance. Surprisingly, Rani is not completely dismissive of the similarities. Clearing the air, she says, The only comparisons that one can draw between Veera, my character in DBH and Babli is that they both are from Punjab and aspire to make it big. And honestly, I connect a lot to these characters. I have travelled a lot across North India and met so many cousins who dreamt of migrating to big cities to make it big. If in any way I can inspire them to dream through my characters, I feel happy; for only if they dream can they achieve it. Talking about inspiration, one wonders what triggered off the fitness regime responsible for the actress new-found toned and ultra-glamorous avatar. Surprisingly, it wasnt the urge to jump onto the size-zero bandwagon but a character requirement that translated into a personal and professional boon. And no, it wasnt about ensuring an hour-glass figure for the Punjabi kudi Veera. In the film I am in the guise of a male athlete, a cricketer-Veer. I planned the weight-loss keeping in mind his athletic appeal. At no point in time did I want the audiences to comment Arre, woh dekho, that little jiggling thing as I ran across the pitch. After losing inches via yoga and following it up with weight training, a correct diet was the next thing. And like they say, when it rains, it pours. Around the time she started working on Veers fitness requirements, she also started practising for the cricket prowess that required an athletes diet. Having aimed for an athletes physique, isnt she glad that everyones sitting up and taking notice of her ultra-slim and glamorous makeover? I did not foresee myself in a glamorous music video. The thing about fitness is that once your system is cleansed and all those clothes you have wanted to wear for a while begin to fit, you begin to enjoy the whole process. So after wrapping up the shoot, when everyone suggested that we do the Hadippa Remix to flaunt my new, toned self to the world, I thought Why not? To match steps with Shahid Kapoor, one of the best dancers in the industry, and come up with chemistry that leaves little scope for critics must have been a feat. On being probed, she says, Shahid was most happy that he was getting to work with an actor who knows how to dance. He kept on saying, Thank god, thank god I too had great fun dancing with him. As far as chemistry is concerned, I think it is an actors job to complement her co-actor. Theres nothing wrong in trying to look as good as your co-star. With her co-star having two hits to his credit, one would assume that it is Rani, who is pinning on the film to make her box-office comeback. However, for someone who has handled the highs and lows with equal calm, Rani dismisses the fact that the DBHs success at the box-office could be a solitary factor in affecting her popularity in the industry. Be that as may be, in times when stars are jumping on the media bandwagon via endorsements, reality television and anything else that comes by, one wonders what has prompted the actress to not just stay away from the media limelight, but also limit the number of films she has been signing in recent years. While admitting the fact that she is a rather private person and prefers to occupy air-time and newsreels only when it comes to her work, she doesnt think much of her signing exclusive scripts. There are lots of actors who work on one film, which is what I am doing. I dont know why I am singled out, she says. Referring to rumours that part of the reason is a conscious decision to only work with Yash Raj Films, Rani retorts, Many of my recent films have been with the banner but that is no reason to believe that I am not open to working with anyone else. As and when I get interesting scripts, I am definitely going to pick them; I have done Paheli, Black and Saawariya. But I cannot just sign projects with other producers to prove some people wrong. Interestingly, there are newcomers who have signed more than one consecutive project with Yash Raj Films as well as other production houses. But no one has been labelling their choices as exclusive; perhaps in my case, it has been a long association. |

'F'imply Shahid! Shahid Rani say Hadippa!Shahid Kapur and Rani Mukerjee at a press conference in Delhi. After the success of Jab We Met and Kaminey, it's Dil Bole Hadippa for Shahid Kapur. The actor, along with his co-star Rani Mukerjee was at the Odeon Big Cinemas in the Capital on Wednesday for the promotion of his upcoming flick. We caught up with the dashing Kapur for a tte--tte and got him talking about his new release, his onscreen chemistry with Rani and on playing a cricketer. Sporty Shahid "Hadippa is a family entertainer and I loved being a part of this film. I have been a cricket fan ever since I was a kid and thought that playing a cricketer would be a great idea. I was also curious about the character Veeru and how Rani would play it," says Shahid. Gaga over Rani! The hunk, who had girls drooling all over him at the press meet, was all praises for his co-star Rani in Dil Bole Hadippa. "Working with Rani was absolutely fabulous. Despite speculations about our onscreen chemistry, I feel lucky to have worked with an actor of her caliber. Sometimes, when you do unexpected things, it surprises people in a positive way," says the actor who is working for the first time with Yash Raj Films. The overjoyed Kapur "Kaminey was an out-of-the-box film and certainly one of the most challenging roles I have played in my career so far. I am overjoyed with the success of the film. As an actor, I believe, if you have a few roles that people remember you for, you have accomplished your goal. Now, the challenge that lies ahead of me is to improve my work. If in future, I get a role that surpasses my performance in Kaminey, I would definitely try my best to do it." On Rani as Veeru "The most entertaining scenes in Dil Bole Hadippa are between me and Veeru. If I had to choose from a funny perspective, it would be Veeru but from a romantic perspective, it would definitely be Rani," asserts the Kaminey star. The laughter challenge Shahid left no stone unturned to entertain the audience with his wit and humour. When asked about which role he enjoyed playing the most - Charlie, Guddu or Rohan, the actor diligently said, "I don't like to choose between my characters. I like all the characters I have played so farbut if I had to choosecan it be Veeru?" Adding some spice to the conversation, the actor joked, "I felt like Guddu working in the film. Rani was very much like Charlie." Shake it Shahid! After answering all the queries about the film, Shahid shook a leg with his female fans on the title song from Hadippa and enthralled the audience. We hope the Bollywood heartthrob has more reasons to celebrate after the film releases. |

Sherlyn Chopra on Dil Bole Hadippa bharatstudent Q. Reactions to the trailer? Ans. I did see it. The trailer looked very interesting. I really want this film to release soon so that I can watch the entire film in the theater soon. It gives very positive and energetic vibes. I love feel good films. Q. Experience of working on Dil Bole Hadippa. Ans. It was really good, I enjoyed very much and there was so much to learn from Anurag, Rani, Shahid and not just acting but how to be a professional and how to be a good human being. It was a memorable experience. Q. Any Memorable Experience? Ans. When we were shooting in Chandigarh, I remember hurting myself on the forehead. It was swollen and I didn't know how I will face the camera again after the incident. And when I broke this news to everyone, they came to see me in my room-The Director, Director of Photography and Anupamji to know what happened. Q. Your experience with Rani Mukherjee. Ans. What can I say about Rani. She is just like Guruji. I initially was dumbstruck, what should I call her, Rani, Rani mam, Raniji? Then I mustered a little courage and said "Hi Raniji." She was so chilled out and didn't make me feel that she was Rani Mukherjee, the actress. She behaved just like a fellow actor who was enjoying. She used to take keen interest in my acting, in my close up shots. She would keep advising, Sheryln you could do better. And that used to get me motivated. I felt nice that someone believed that I can do better than what I am doing. Q. Your experience with Shahid Kapoor. Ans. It was good. I did my first scene with him. I was feeling shy and embarrassed because before that we didn't interact with each other. Usually people say hi! or hello! but my first dialogue to him was "Hey Sexy". That was funny. Whenever I used to see his bare body, I used to compare his waistline with mine and see who is fitter. Q . Your experience with Rakhi Sawant. Ans. She is very entertaining. I didn't know that she was a funny person. I thought she just pretends to be interesting but when I met her I just couldn't be serious, I had to burst out laughing just listening to her. It was a fabulous rendezvous. It was very gracious of her to come up and break the ice and say "Hi, I am Rakhi Sawant." I choose to believe we are friends and I am glad we have somebody like Rakhi in the industry. She is a thorough mood elevator. Q. Your experience with director Anurag Singh. Ans. I would call him a man of vision. He was very clear about how he wanted to project Sonia. On day 1, I went to meet him in YRF. He told me what he wanted to see Soniya as. She is a supermodel, the way she talks, the way she walks and all. He told me the entire biography of Soniya. It felt very easy to give the audition for this character and he was at the monitor and said you are very close to Soniya but you need some polishing. And the rest you will be able to see it on the big screen. Q. Your experience working with Yash Raj Films. Ans. It was too good to be true for me - for somebody who does not have a good start in Bollywood. It would be a distinct dream to work with YRF. I never thought I would get a call from YRF for a role of a supermodel and when I got a call I thought, this is a God sent call and not my effort. So I took it as God's blessing. Q. Tell us about the music of Dil Bole Hadippa. Ans. I have been a part of a group song "Discowale Khisko". I think it is undoubtedly a chartbuster. As soon as the song begins, it makes you dance. It is very peppy. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a #1 song. Q. Is that your favorite track? Ans. Yes, because you can't wait to dance as soon as the song begins, it is very energetic. You would want to jump and sing. I am sure it will become your favorite track as well. Q. Your experience working with Manish Malhotra. Ans. I will be forever grateful to him for what he has done for me in the film-he has given me a make over, the look, the style, and the accessory, everything from head to toe. He also gave me make up tips to look fresh on screen. I would thank him deeply for making me look so good in the film and a supermodel which I am not. Q. Tell us about your character Sonia. Ans. I play a character called Sonia, a UK based super model. Everything about her is high profile. She just loves fashion, accessories etc and she is a very trendy and glamorous babe. She is smitten by an Indian cricketer - Shahid. Q. Do you relate to the character? Ans. Yes, I do. I love fashion, I love expensive clothes. I love out of the box fashion. Q. What motivated you to be on Dil Bole Hadippa? Ans. Many reasons, what should I tell you. YRF, because it has Rani, because it has Shahid, because I had to play a supermodel, because it had Manish Malhotra as the designer... I think every actor would like to add at least one YRF film in his profile. I completed that dream. I hope I get to be associated with YRF always. Q. Any message to the audience. Ans. If you love feel good films, if you want to see Rani as a Sardar boy, if you want to see me in ultra glam looks, if you want to see Rakhi's dance and Shahid's acting, so I suggest you watch DBH. It's a very entertaining film and I am sure you would not regret watching it. I am sure your heart will definitely say Hadippa! after watching it. Q .When does your heart say Hadippa? Ans. When I get good offers, when I do good work and good photo shoots, when the outcomes are just next to excellent. |

Dil Bole Hadippa! Shak interviews Rani Mukherji Thursday, 17 September 2009 Whether you've always been curious about all this song and dance palaver or you're already an impassioned Bollywood fan, hopefully our new series of Bollywood podcasts and interviews will soon be your number one stop for the latest Bollywood film releases and where you'll come to hear the stars. Exactly what you want on the weekend of one of the most celebrated festivals of the Asian calendar - Eid! Feedback is always welcome, hope you enjoy it! http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertai...ji-1788439.html |

Rani, Salman to fight at the box office By: Bollywood Mantra Staff on 17th September 2009 Both Rani Mukherjee and Salman Khan are in an urgent need of a hit. Salman did not taste success for a long time as well as Rani. Salmans last film Yuvraaj was badly beaten at the box office. Rani too failed to deliver hit for four years. Her last hit was Bunty Aur Babli way back in 2005. Rani gradually stepped down with the failure of Ta Ra Rum Pum, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Saawariya. Both Salman Khan and Rani Mukherjee are best pals and both are badly in need of a single hit. The release dates of their respective films collided and their films are set to release on 18th September. Rani and Salman are leaving no stone unturned to promote their film and both have shed immense sweat to impress their audience with their style and acting. Both the films are of different genres, Ranis Dil Bole Hadippa is a colorful and full of entertainment while Salmans Wanted speaks about revenge and has lots of action sequences. Well, time will tell, whether Salman becomes the box office king or Rani becomes the queen. |

Rani Mukherjee waiting for box office result of Dil Bole Hadippa by Rajiv Dutta Rani Mukherjee is now looking for the box office result of Dil Bole Hadippa where she acts opposite Shahid Kapur. In the film Rani Mukherjee is wearing bikini but she is refusing the truth and said that she had just wore a bikini top with salwar. She said that, people want to see you in certain ways when your body is toned up' and there is no harm trying out sexy dresses. Rani Mukerjee acts as a Sikh cricketer and Shah Rukh Khan gave her cricketing tips, Aamir Khan helped her with wearing a moustache. "Shah Rukh gave me a lot of tips on cricket and I was very happy to have him give me tips for my character in the movie," Rani said. "Aamir helped me with the moustache... I was shooting a song with Rakhi (Sawant) before I had the moustache on and he gave me tips on how I should put it with a little smile so that it doesn't hurt," Rani added. Rani Mukherjee has to put on a (very convincing) stick-on moustache and beard and dress up as a Sikh man, to pursue her dreams of playing Cricket in India's big league. Her romantic interest in the movie is played by Shahid Kapur - notoriously one of the best dancers in the industry. Rani Mukherjee was in the capital with her Dil Bole Hadippa! co-star Shahid Kapoor at the Big Cinemas Odeon to promote the movie. Produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films, it is directed by debutant Anurag Singh. |

Dil Bole Hadippa: Highlights Thursday, September 17, 2009 Dil Bole Hadippa means Heart Goes Hurrah! Will someone check Rani Mukherjees blood pressure? She must be pretty nervous at the moment. Yes, she was no doubt the queen of Bollywood a few years ago but the story is not the same anymore. The failure of her last few releases has put pressure on her like the tone of bricks on her shoulders. Luckily, she has a good company in Shahid Kapoor, who is on the verge of turning a superstar. The highlight of Dil Bole Hadippa is no doubt Rani Mukherjee. The story of the film revolves around her. It is all about a village girl whose dream is to play cricket in the big league. To make her dream come true, she disguises as a man and put on a turban and beard, as girls dont play cricket. Her brilliant performance on the field earns herself a place in a team captained by Shahid. It may be recalled that the Sikh community protested against Ranis avatar, as she didnt put on the right turban. Rani badly needs a hit at the moment, and Dil Bole Hadippa could be her saviour. Besides failing to taste success for a couple of years, the presence of young actresses like Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Asin Thottumkal, Genelia DSouza and others has threatened her place in Bollywood. Many feel that her loyalty to Yash Raj Films has caused the downfall in her career. She has got a chance to prove the critics wrong through Dil Bole Hadippa. It looks like she has given her best to this film. She looks ravishing after shedding lots of weight. She claims that she looks younger than Shahid though she is older than him by three years. Her bikini show is one of the highlights of the film. Lead actor Shahid also has his share of pressure. All eyes will be on him following the success streak in Jab We Met and Kaminey. He will be looking forward to the success of Dil Bole Hadippa, as it can turn him into a superstar. Another highlight of the film is the skin show from Sherlyn Chopra and Rakhi Sawant, who are known for their bold attitude. The Yash Raj Films, which was known for its clean family entertainers, has decided to take on glamour. It invited the wrath of the moral police. The Censor Board has issued a U/A certificate to the film for Sherlyn's hot outfits and Rakhi Sawant's raunchy dance number. Dil Bole Hadippa is produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films banner and directed by Anurag Singh. It is releasing tomorrow, 18th September. Will the Heart Go Hurrah? Watch out! |

Rani's sexy in her bikini TNN 18 September 2009 Believe it or not, but the whole bikini top n skimpy shorts avatar in short flaunting Rani Mukerjis hot new bod wasnt her idea. Not even Rani Mukherji the producer or director had anything to do with it. After she realised how much she had toned up (to play a male cricketer in Dil Bole Hadippa!), Rani just happened to discuss this idea with her designer friend Manish Malhotra. And from there on it was Manishs game plan, after all, hes transformed many a Bollywood girl in to glam queens. He suggested that it would be a pity to waste such a well-toned body by not showing it off. Thats how the idea of a special song was born. And is she looking hot? Talk about her shapely success, and Rani says, Believe me, I didnt starve at all. I love my food, especially rice and sweets. There was no way I was giving up all that. So, I just worked out harder and was occasionally allowed my cheat meals of rice, sweets, etc. And Im happy. All gain, no sacrifice. Imagine our Bong tigress on a ghaas-phoos diet? Thats not fair to such a beauty, na? |

'Hadippa...' Rani desperate to make it a hit New Delhi, Sep 17 (PTI) Badly in need of a hit after a string of flops, actress Rani Mukherji is leaving no stone unturned to promote her latest film 'Dil Bole Hadippa'. The actress who faced flak from film critics after her last film 'Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic' failed to create any magic at the box, gave her last hit in 2005 with 'Bunty Aur Babli. After which she delivered box office duds like 'Ta Ra Rum Pum', 'Laaga Chunari Mein Daag' and 'Saawariya'. But with 'Dil Bole Hadippa' which releases tomorrow, Rani is determined to churn out a hit and has been on a whirlwind promotional tour to Toronto, London, Mumbai and Delhi. |

In a village where girls don't play cricket, Veera has to put on a turban and beard and become a man to fulfill her dreams. Her brilliance on the field earns her a place in Rohan's team. Music : Dil Bole Hadippa movie is based on fun and entertainment of love and romance. As a lyricist of Dil Bole Hadippa, Jaideep Sahni has also tried to put some great rhythmic tune. Discowale Khisko is the first song of Dil Bole Hadippa music. The song is the most important of the movie which has taken maximum time. It is meaningful song on rhythmic lyrics. The song establishes Desi music rather than Disco. Ishq Hi Rab Hai is the next song. The song begins with slow-paced background music but soon it appears with vocal tune music. It is mix-up of Punjabi song and music. It is cultural song of Punjab. Music is very sweet but not vocal. Bhangra Bistar is also a Punjabi Bhangra song. It begins with echo music which is in background. It is a situational song of Punjabi culture. In the song, there is appearance of Rakhi Sawant after Rakhi Ka Swayamvar TV serial. Gym Shim is rap song which establishes also Desi music. There are English words in the song but music is fully dedicated to Desi, Punjabi Bhangra. It is rap song in spite of, there is all about Punjabi Bhangra music. Hadippa (Remix) song of Dil Bole Hadippa music is situational song. The song establishes the meaning of Hadippa. There is many times appearance of Hadippa word. Music of the song is also tuning on Punjabi Bhangra. Hadippa is last song, it is original song of Hadippa (Remix). Music is similar in both songs. Yes, there is slow-motion music in original. It also establishes the meaning of Hadippa. Rani denies wearing Bikini : Even though Rani Mukherjee's great toned figure is inviting much attention, she denies wearing a bikini in this movie. Rani says Bikini is a very strong word. I have just worn a bikini top with salwar. When you lose weight and tone your body, people wants to dress you up in a different way and there is no harm in trying that. According to the actress she is wearing a bikini top but not a two piece bikini. Rani is no doubt looking very very hot and sensuous in this movie as well. Rani explains her ultra glam new look and says In the film, I could not take liberties because the glam look would not go well with the character I play. Box Office: This year on September 18th 2009, Salman Khan, Ayesha Takia's - Wanted and Yash Raj Banner's Shahid Kapoor - Rani Mukherji's Dil Bole Hadippa will clash for the box office supremacy. The Ramadan week usually fails to provide a healthy box office collection. But this year, with both these movies hitting the theatres on the same dates, movie pundits think that the movies have gathered enough buzz to pull the audiences to the theatr After the success of Jab We Met and Kaminey, Shahid has cemented his place as a versatile actor in the film industry and public expectations are running high. Everyone is again hoping for a good performance from him. Rani Mukherji would be seen in a new avatar, also sporting a bikini, but Yash Raj's Banner itself is capable to pull the crowd to the theatres. Rating Scale: 6.5/10. http://www.indiatarget.com/cgi-bin/slide_shows.cgi?1580:1 |

Box Office: Advance booking report for Wanted, Dil Bole Hadippa Thursday, September 17, 2009 The two major 'biggies', the much hyped Salman Khan starrer Wanted and the Yash Raj's Rani Mukherji-Shahid Kapoor starrer Dil Bole Hadippa are both set to open to surprisingly subpar and weak initials despite a heavy promotional drive by both films and 4 star reviews from trade sections. Though for the fans, it should be worth noting that the opening for the Shahid Kapoor (in a relatively satellite role) feature in Dil Bole Hadippa has the edge over the Salman Khan starrer Wanted. However DBH is not going to be another Kaminey or Vivah or even Jab We Met for Shahid Kapoor as it's not being billed as 'his' film, nor will it likely be a significant grosser for Yash Raj likely as the opening for DBH is set to be around 40% which is belowaverage/average. Wanted on the other hand looks surprisingly weak with opening in some theates in Calcutta looking to be as low as 12-15%, on average it appears to open at around 25-35%. Wanted has a slight edge in largely southern centers like Madras but even in south, the advance is well under expectations, and the number of screenings being allocated are also modest in volume, thus limiting the potential grosser amount for the film's opening week. Which is interesting as Wanted is a remake of Telugu hit Pokhiri which until recently was the biggest hit of Telugu cinema. It had been billed as this year's Ghajini in some sections of the trade which is certainly not the case in terms of the opening. So if the film ultimately doesn't generate major steam soon, it will be a setback for Salman Khan's hopes of once again belonging to top echelon level stars at the Indian box office at the age 43. The top echelon right now seems to be Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Shahrukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and possibly John Abraham. To be fair, Wanted being billed as 'mass' film may yet pick up if the early street reports are good. But the subpar opening doesn't bode too well for it and especially for DBH, the Yash Raj film as they pride themselves in convincing the viewers right from the getgo with well researched and planned promos in harnessing that critical 1st-weekend-grosses from the multiplexes. Case in point, their Ta Ra Rum Pum which too underperformed, but had a very high opening weekend in April, 2007. The reports for What's Your Rashee releasing next week, starring Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja are encouraging in the early going. |
