Fascinated by female gangsters

Rani Mukherjee has regained her spunk after playing a feisty journalist in No One Killed Jessica. The actor recently graced the launch of author Hussain Zaidi's ‘Mafia Queens Of Mumbai', a collection of non-fiction short stories based on female gangsters in the city. Palpably fascinated with the subject, Rani says, “It's interesting to read stories which are real and know what happens in the heart of our city. We get the opportunity to understand what the underbelly is all about.”

Zaidi said that Rani fit the bill when it came to portraying onscreen two of the women from his collection — Jinabai Daruwali and Gangubai. He opined: “Rani has been around for a decade or so, and for Jinabai and Gangubai, we need a seasoned actor who can carry off that role with aplomb. Rani has that maturity.”

Ask Rani if she would like to be a female gangster, and she laughs, “One aspect that has always intrigued me is to know what made them into gangsters because at the end of the day, they are women.”

'Why Rani won't go virtual'

Her close friends Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and even Aamir Khan have been active on the net-world but Rani Mukerji has decided to stay away from it.

Rani says, "I feel that once I'm out there, it is my responsibility to connect with my fans on a daily basis and it's very difficult to do that especially when one is shooting. I don't like the idea that I can go missing for a while and then pop-up and write a couple of lines and then vanish again. Fans write every single day and they all expect a reply but sometimes, that too is difficult and I don't want to upset any of my fans. So, it's best that I stay off it and hope to entertain them through my films."

Sonam leaves Masaba teary eyed

Way before anyone knew, TOI.com was the first to reveal that Sonam would be wearing a Masaba at Cannes (Article Dated May 10, 2011 Vintage fashion for Sonam at Cannes!).

Masaba too had kept the news under wraps then. All Masaba had told TOI was, "Sonam's gonna steal the show no matter who she wears. Sonam doesn't need to play it safe. She can carry a major experimental look."

As per our news, Sonam did wear a lovely silk polka dotted sari at Cannes in black and white designed by good friend Masaba Gupta.

An ecstatic Masaba said, "So finally I can say it! Having a teary eyed moment right now! No one can pull off a Masaba sari at Cannes except for Sonam Kapoor! Big moment for me & I love Rhea Kapoor for having the faith in my work for a global event. The girls made my day!"

Describing the sari, Masaba added, "Its a lovely polka dotted silk sari with a shirt inspired blouse."

Sharing views on Indian actors choosing international designers the budding designer said, "We are way too much in awe of the west! We have to show some faith in our veterans for eg Anamika Khanna. I am really sad that Rani won't be at Cannes. She and Sabya make for a flawless designer-muse duo."

Unable to dissect her appreciation for muse and childhood friend Sonam's classic style statement Masaba said, "Excuse my language but sonam has F****** killed every star that there is in Jean Paul Gaultier couture! Watta look."

Masaba has not let the appreciation coming her way at an early stage in her career go to her head. She earnestly admits, "I am getting major mixed reviews for Sonam's look at Cannes! But I'm really happy. Criticism is always welcome it'll only make me better."

Be the beautiful Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2009 Couture gown in white with white Ferragamo peep-toe heels, Chopard stud earrings that Sonam chose for red carpet, the sexy blue Vivienne Westwood she wore backstage or the retro Masaba sari that she pulled off with utmost grace and style (no tacky cleavage show there at all like her contemporaries prefer by wearing those bikini blouses on saris)...Sonam looked every bit a style icon.

Did she beat Ash when it came to looking beautiful? Not really but did she beat Ash at displaying that innate sense of fashion? Of course she did.

Miss India Kanishtha to replace Rani Mukherjee at Cannes

New Delhi, May 17 (PTI) Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee who was set to walk the Cannes red carpet this year, has been replaced by Miss India Kanishtha Dhankar.

Rani was supposed to make an appearance on the French Riviera alongwith designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee and filmmaker Karan Johar, but has bowed out as her father is unwell.

Now Dhankar will be walking the red carpet for Chivas in Indian ethnic wear.

"Kanishtha''s dress in red or nude gold will remind of the 60''s princesses. She will be wearing accessories from my personal jewellery line. I am not much of a fashionista so I will be wearing a bandhgala," said Sabyasachi.

Rani was supposed to wear a Sabyasachi sari.

"I had designed the outfit for her, everything was ready. I feel sad that Rani will not be able to make it, but I am more concerned about her father," said the designer.

Dhankar, who is the first Miss India going to Cannes, said she had no idea that she would be lucky enough to attend the prestigious film fest this year.

"I am very nervous but excited at the same time. I had many plans for this year but not even in my wildest dreams had I thought that I will be walking the Cannes red carpet. I feel lucky and blessed," she said.

The 22-year-old Mumbai girl, who is preparing for her Miss World pageant, said, "The global exposure I will get through this is definitely a plus point for my upcoming pageant. It will help me get the crown back."
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had worn a Sabyasachi creation at the premiere of ''Raavan'' at Cannes last year and the designer is surprised at the opportunity to physically present at the fest this time.

"I feel stupid, I don''t even know whether I deserve this or not. But it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am glad that I got it. It''s like my own personal fairytale," he said.

'Vishal Bharadwaj's film on Monika Bedi'

The filmmaker has bought rights of the book which revolves around the women who have had a brush with the underworld.

Filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj along with Rani Mukherjee was present for the launch of a non-fiction book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai', based on women gangsters of the Mumbai underworld, by noted crime journalist Hussain Zaidi few days back.

Rani and Vishal were the special guests who unveiled the book for the renowned author whose previous work includes the much acclaimed 'Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts' which was later made into a film by Anurag Kashyap.

While Rani expressed interest in acting in the cinematic adaptation of the book stating, ""I would love to play a mafia queen in a gangster film which will hopefully be an adaptation of this book. I've never played such a character and this seems to be the perfect opportunity."

Vishal Bharadwaj is said to have bought the rights of the book.

While author Hussain Zaidi did reveal that the rights of the book have already been bought for its film and tv series adaptation, he didn't divulge further details.

Monica Bedi happens to be one of the 13 women who have been mentioned by Zaidi in his book.

When we probed if Monica would be seen in the film, Zaidi clarified, "Casting will be the director's prerogative. Monica Bedi has denied the passage I have written about her life story in the book. Although, I will stand by what I have written about her and everyone else. There are barely any creative liberties that I have taken. All the names are real and accounts factual."

Vishal Bharadwaj's take on the book will be definitely interesting and if Monica Bedi plays herself, nothing like it!

BACHCHAN JR RUBS IT IN

The actor arrived at Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat sporting a Mumbai Indian’s jersey to celebrate KJo’s 39th birthday

Mumbai Indians thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders in a pulsating eliminator at Wankhede on Wednesday. Meanwhile, KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan and his buddies, putting up a brave front, tried to get into the celebratory spirit to bring in KJo’s 39th birthday. But things became a little tough to handle when Abhishek Bachchan walked in to the party wearing a Mumbai Indians team jersey. Bachchan Jr arrived around one in the morning; well over an hour after Harbhajan Singh hit the unforgettable six over midwicket, clinching the match.
“Abhishek ne yeh kya pehna hai?” soon became the topic of discussion. After all, it was shocking to see someone walk into SRK’s house wearing a Mumbai Indians team jersey, when he was still reeling from the shock of having been knocked out of the IPL for the fourth consecutive time.
SRK, known to be a rather emotional man, had even skipped the match on Wednesday, preferring to watch it from the confines of his home instead. How did he take this salt rubbing on his wounds? “SRK seemed to be taking it all rather sportingly. After all, he was the host of the party. Also, SRK is a very charming man. Toh uske chehre pe toh kuch nahi dikha. There were a lot of guests at the party - Preity Zinta, Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, Zarina Mehta, Ronnie Screwvalla, Mehr Jessia, Maheep and Sanjay Kapoor, Bhavna Pandey, Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan,” informed an eyewitness.
Apart from sporting a controversial jersey, Abhishek also raised eyebrows when he greeted Rani Mukerji and Priyanka Chopra.
One may recall, that problems started between Abhishek and Priyanka, after she won the Best Actress Award for Fashion. The actor’s mother, Jaya Bachchan, had then declared that Aishwarya should have been the owner of the title for her performance in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar.
The Abhishek-Rani cold war dates back to his wedding with Aishwarya Rai. The successful onscreen couple Rani and Abhishek were also romantically linked by the media and it was suspected that the two would ultimately tie the knot. Recently, Abhishek extended the olive branch by calling Rani “His best co-star ever.” The conversation between them at the party just proved that everything was indeed alright.

Rani Pink

Posted Image

Rani Mukerji is on a high. It was evident at the Screen Chatroom that was held at Express Towers in Mumbai on Friday as the actress, once tagged “reclusive” by the media, revealed a new side. Still basking in the success of No One Killed Jessica (NOKJ), she was in a joyful mood, appeared confident and kept the audiences hooked with her wit and humour. She was sporting Jodhpur-styled hot pink pants with a floral peasant top and minimal make-up.

Mukerji, who is currently taking a break after the first schedule of Reema Kagti’s untitled next film with Aamir Khan, was effusive about her co-actor. “I started my career with Aamir in Ghulam. I was so much in awe of him then and found it so hard to romance him. Over the years, we have become good friends. But even today it is his sincerity and dedication that has remained constant,” she said.

It isn’t just Aamir who the actress is best friends with. The other two from the Khan trio — Shah Rukh and Salman belong to her coterie of friends. While she termed Shah Rukh as an “inspiration”, Salman was tagged the “eternal rockstar” by her. “It is easier to be friends with your male co-stars because you are collaborating with them and not competing,” she said. The 33-year-old actress also reserved her praise for the younger breed of actors — Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma.

Mukerji has an enviable body of work behind her — from Ghulam, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Black, Hum Tum and Saathiya. She is an actress loved by the masses. But she believes, it is her role in NOKJ that will open fresh doors in Hindi cinema. “Ten years ago, one couldn’t have imagined a girl abusing on screen. But times have changed now,” she said. According to her, even the audience expectation from the female lead has undergone a change — for better. “Audiences love to watch women in power. Nobody wants to see a bechari on screen.”

When asked if she was expecting awards for her NOKJ performance, she candidly responded. “In my heart, I feel I deserve it. But then, it is in the hands of the jury and audiences,” said the actress, who termed herself a “spontaneous” actor. She owed her success to her hard work and audience acceptance. “Every day of my life is a struggle to prove a point to my audiences and fans that I can live up to their expectations.”

This struggle is not all. Looking good on screen is as important as being a good actor. “When the audience look at you on screen, they want you to look good. That’s how we become pin-up stars. After that you need to take that interest to another level with your acting abilities,” she explained.

The constant media scrutiny does put the actress in a spot of bother. “You can’t even repeat your clothes because photographers are constantly following you wherever you go,” she said, imitating anchors on news channels. What really troubles the actor is speculation about her marriage. “Everyone has been at it for almost five years. Initially, I humoured it but later it started affecting my work because some people actually thought I was getting married and wouldn’t give me work,” she said. “A certain amount of gossip is fine, but one really needs to draw a line, or at least validate the gossip.”

Mumbai Rani Mukerji was the epitome of confidence and candour at the Screen Chat Room held recently. High on the success of No One Killed Jessica, she opened up on her landmark films, working with the Khan triumvirate and maintaining exclusivity as a star.

She is the quintessential girl-next-door who sets our hearts aflutter with her cheerful disposition and acting prowess. So quite expectedly, when we learnt that Rani Mukerji would be visiting the Screen office, there was a palpable buzz all around. Dressed in a light blue floral top teamed with fuchsia pink harem pants and wedges, the actress was confidence personified.

Like a gilt-edged entertainer, she kept us glued to our seats for an hour and a half with her wit and candour. And yet the minutes just flew by. While she remained tight-lipped about Reema Kagti’s as-yet untitled project—wherein she will be seen as Aamir Khan’s wife—saying that she will talk about the film close to its release, she was all praises for the Khan triumvirate—Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman— with whom she has given memorable hits.

The star, earlier termed reclusive, also viewed the increasing paparazzi culture as a “necessary evil” that has compelled her to be more approachable. But she still values her privacy above all else. Rani, who has been a part of the Hindi film industry since 15 years, also said that despite the success of No One... it will take some time for viewers to accept women-oriented films as we have a box-office-oriented industry. The light-eyed beauty spoke about personal equation with stars and industry trends with great intelligence.

She also came across as the caring daughter, who strikes a balance between her professional and personal life, as she spoke fondly about her 80-year-old father, who is currently under the weather.

Reema Kagti’s as-yet untitled film is your fourth movie with Aamir Khan. How does it feel to work with him again?
I am really looking forward to it. Aamir has always been somebody who I have looked up to — as a kid, I watched Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and like others, I was bitten by the Aamir Khan bug. He was so cute in that film that I would dream of romancing him. I would put myself in Juhi Chawla’s shoes and fantasise about singing and dancing with him. Later, when I was 16-17, I actually shared screen space with Aamir in Ghulam, which for me was unbelievable.

I remember when we were filming the song Aankhon se toone yeh kya keh diya, each time I had to give a shot, I would look down at Aamir’s shoes. He would then pull up my chin and say, ‘Look into my eyes, you are supposed to look at me in a romantic way.’ Today we share a great friendship. But now when I am acting opposite him in Reema’s film, I need to constantly remind myself that I am acting opposite Aamir, the huge star, not just a friend of more than 10 years. I respect him and the stardom that he has achieved with sheer hard work.

You also worked with Shah Rukh Khan early on in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Yes, I fell in love with him when I watched Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. And then I found myself working with him in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. When Shah Rukh and I were shooting for the song Tujhe yaad na meri aayi in Scotland, the scene demanded that he kiss me on my cheek. Whenever he would come near me, I would move away subconsciously. It happened many times and finally he gave up! But, both SRK and Aamir never made me realise that I am a newcomer. I learnt a lot from them.

What about Salman Khan?
Salman is absolutely adorable. I really love him as he is always himself. I only laugh when I am with him, he is so entertaining. He is a rockstar. When he comes on screen, not only the common man but we actors also clap and whistle for him and say, ‘Star aa gaya’. He is so good looking. When he passes by, you actually stop to turn and look at him. When I saw the promos of Dabangg, I called him and both of us went completely mad. He is a cult figure. Just as the South has Rajinikanth, we have Salman!

Were newcomers star-struck by you in turn?
Of course! When I was acting opposite Shahid Kapoor in Dil Bole Hadippa, he kept on saying, ‘Oh my god I am working with Rani Mukerji’. I told him that he should not be awestruck as I had to romance him in the film!

How easy is it for actors to be friends?
It is easy to be friends with your male co-actors because there is no competition the way it is with female co-stars, where because of the same gender factor, you always want to be better than the other.

Do you subscribe to the notion that two male actors can get along but two female actors cannot?
I think I have been fortunate enough to work with great female co-stars. When I read about cat-fights in the media, I wonder if they really happen as I personally have not experienced such things. I have done five films with Preity Zinta. For the world, we were pitted against each other but it was not like that. We were and are good friends.

Do you think that cinema is evolving now?
I think cinema evolves with every generation. With No One Killed Jessica, people have started accepting a heroine who is like a man. But five years ago they may not have accepted this film. Similarly, when Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna released, there was a lot of hue and cry about the infidelity shown in the film and people said that it was against Indian morality. But if it had released today, people would have been okay with it.

How have things changed after No One...?
After this film, everyone came to know that I could abuse really well and with conviction (laughs).

So which is your favourite abuse?
It definitely has to be the G word that we saw in the first promo. It aroused curiosity about the film. The line comes in the flight sequence where my co-passenger talks derogatorily about the Kargil war and the Indian jawans. He actually deserved a slap but I guess I slapped him with my language.

With the success of No One..., do you think that people are now accepting women-centric films?
Women-centric films have always been a part of Indian cinema right from the 1940s. There were later movies like Bandini and Sujata. But the problem is that we have a very box-office oriented industry. Till the time audiences don’t come in large numbers to watch women-oriented films, I don’t think such movies can be made on larger scales. Good openings are necessary and once that happens, more films on women might be made on bigger scale.

Coming to your performances, especially in No One..., do you believe in method acting?
Fortunately or unfortunately, I don’t believe in method acting. For some actors it works as they prepare for a role. For me, acting has always been spontaneous. But when there is a physicality involved, I prepare for the role accordingly. For instance, when I played a differently-abled girl in Black, I did train in sign language for seven to eight months to play the role convincingly. I also had to be awkward in terms of the way I had to walk and talk, as visually-impaired people are not aware about how they look.

Have you attended workshops for any of your films?
No, never. I might just start laughing if I had to attend one, as I simply can’t act without a camera. I have a special friendship with the camera. But I do script readings with my co-stars where we work on the language, diction and tone. We have to do that as the Hindi that we speak here in Mumbai is colloquial and we have to get into the skin of different characters.

What do you think about media interactions? And the paparazzi culture?
Today actors have become more open with the media. But this has posed a problem for actors like me because if I don’t do that, then I end up being called reclusive. So now I have changed myself and am easily approachable.

As for the paparazzi culture, it has become a necessary evil in my profession. But if we see it in a liberal way then I guess this is the requirement as people need to see their stars off-guard so that they can criticise them. After all, who doesn’t like to gossip? The paparazzi knows exactly what the audience wants to see. People like to comment on how we look or what we wear and say, “Dekho, kaise dikhti hai without make-up.” The paparazzi offers what they know sells.

Do you also blame the media for making celebs fashion-conscious?
(Laughs) Yes, because we cannot wear any dress more than once! Even if we repeat our footwear, they point out “Arre dekho, woh chappal phir se pehni hai! Even our accessories are noticed! So whenever we are travelling, we make it a point to concentrate on our clothes. It’s also great fun to watch some actors getting dolled up just before a flight is about to land because photographers are always waiting outside to click their snaps. So a star’s budget for outfits today is higher than that for their food or alcohol!

What is your take on gossip?
Gossip is fun. But the media needs to draw a line and understand that they should verify the information and not just feature what is being told to them. This is happening because there is so much competition among the media that everyone wants to break the news first. A few years ago while I was shooting for a film, I suddenly saw television channels stating that I was getting married. How can they carry something like that without verifying it with me? Though I didn’t take it too seriously at first, when the rumours continued they started affecting me professionally.

What is better for an actor — being in touch with fans through social networking sites or staying exclusive?
On a social networking site fans are directly in touch with stars. If there is a rumour, then stars can log on to their websites or Twitter and clarify things. That’s good. But on the flip side, there is no mystery about the star any more.

Earlier if there was some news people would speculate and get curious. In my case, I think being exclusive is great. There should be a certain mystery about the star. But I do get in touch with people on the Internet when I’m promoting a film. I don’t have any Facebook or Twitter accounts as I wouldn’t want to keep people constantly updated about my personal activities. I want my privacy.

Which have been your landmark films?
The important movies of my career include Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat since it was my first film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Ghulam as they were my first super- hits with big stars. Hey! Ram made a lot of directors realise that I can go de-glam as well. Then there were Saathiya, Hum Tum, Yuva, Chalte Chalte, Veer-Zaara, Bunty Aur Babli, Black, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and No One Killed Jessica.

Why do you think Paheli didn’t do well?
That’s a good question for which I don’t have any answer! If we actors could analyse that then all our movies would have been hits! It all depends on the audience. I still remember Taare Zameen Par and Welcome released on the same day and both of them did exceedingly well. The audience accepted and enjoyed both the movies that were completely diverse. Sometimes they reject the film and the genre outright. When a film flops, even a great performance goes unnoticed.

Do you think that glamour works more than the performance for an actress?
Every male who goes to see a film wants to feel good while looking at the heroine on screen so she had better have a good body. Similarly when girls watch movies, they want to feel that the hero is larger-than- life. So being glamorous is an important aspect of being a star. But yes, over a period of time, you have to prove your acting prowess too. So every actor goes through the phase of first looking good to finally being evaluated by what he or she brings to the table in terms of acting abilities.

Do you believe that heroes have a longer shelf-life than heroines?Absolutely. You can have 40-year-old actors romance a 20-year-old girl. But the audience will accept a Rekha opposite a Shahid only if the story is believable.

What is your take on item numbers?
I love item numbers — they are so entertaining! I feel there should be item numbers in all the films. I will be doing an item number soon, but I don’t know for which film! (Laughs).

Rani Mukherjee: If south has Rajnikanth, we have Salman

June 4, 2011 06:35:06 PM IST

Rani Mukherjee has finally shed her recluse image. Now, post the success of her last film, the actress is more forthcoming to media interactions and also loves to go beyond political correctness at times.

Now, at the crossroads of a new dawn in her career, Rani Mukherjee is kicked about working in films that are bigger in concepts than budgets. Though she might be doing a film opposite Aamir in Reema Kagti's next, but Rani chooses to keep mum on that topic. According to her, "I will only speak about my film with Aamir once it nears the release date. Till then I am not going to utter a word about it."

Talking about her co-actors so far, Rani cannot stop herself from going gaga over Salman Khan. According to Rani, "He is a cult figure. Just as south has Rajnikanth, we have Salman Khan. He is so adorable and good looking; I would say he is the real rockstar."

Rani is lately being credited with bringing the feminist movement back to bollywood. Talking about women-centric films, Rani adds, "The audiences are gradually warming up to women centric films and unless they come out in huge numbers to watch such films, they cannot be made on a large scale. I think with time it will happen."

With Rani getting more media savvy by the day, hope she does not go back being the pretty recluse again.

Julia lobbies for change
Hollywood star wants to improve cooking conditions in rural India

Julia Roberts will return to India. This time around, she’s not shooting for a film. Instead, the Hollywood A-lister will address a serious health issue concerning women in rural areas who still use conventional cook stoves.
Roberts has become the face of an international nongovernmental organisation that seeks to educate people on why they should cut down on the use of conventional cooking methods. We hear the NGO intends to champion their course across South Asia. So, logistics are being worked out for Julia to travel to this part of the globe for about 10 days.
It is also learnt that Oprah Winfrey and Hillary Clinton are supporting the drive and that the NGO will also rope in Bollywood stars to spread the word effectively.
A trusted source reveals, “India stayed on in Julia’s mind even after she completed shooting for her 2010 release Eat Pray Love. She has told everyone how badly she wants to go back to India. It was even discussed that she had embraced Hinduism. So, India has left quite an impression on her heart and as soon as she heard that this cause
would enable her to tour the country, she was even more excited. Because of the films that she has done as well as her philanthropy, she is very well known here. It makes complete sense for her to push for the cause in India.
The source adds, “The only deterrent is the language constraint and since the cause is aimed at rural India and the South Asian belt, faces that will have an instant connect with the masses are needed. We hear Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji along with several others will be approached to be a part of this drive.
Aamir and Hillary know each other and have met before at a previous event and during FIFA’s 1 Goal campaign. Other names will be announced later.”

Ex-flames Salman, Aishwarya on Reddys' guest list

The current buzz in tinsel town surrounds the high profile marriage ceremony going to be held on June 10 in Hyderabad. Reportedly, many B-town stars will be attending the lavish wedding of Mallika Reddy, daughter of socialites Pinky and Sanjay Reddy.

Interestingly, ex-flames Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are also on Reddys’ guest list and it is anticipated that the duo will come face to face at the bash.

Post their splitsville, Ash and Sallu have tried their best to avoid bumping into each other.

So, will the marriage ceremony of entrepreneur GV Krishna’s granddaughter Mallika Reddy and Siddarth Reddy, son of Shyam Prasad, bring back the ex-lovers together this Friday?

Well, let’s wait and watch!

Invitees for the starry wedding bash
Besides Salman and Aishwarya, the other eminent stars invited for the bash include Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Rani Mukherjee.

Special accommodation and transportation arrangements have been done for these VIPs, informs a source.

Taking about the arrangements, a source revealed, “The top floors of all the hotels have been made inaccessible for people without access cards. The suites of all the hotels have been booked for guests with as many as eight layers of security beginning from the airport.

“Two chartered aircrafts have been kept on standby for special guests; it’s not part of the fleets that are carrying guests from Mumbai and Delhi. Salman, Aamir and Shah Rukh are supposed to arrive at different hours, so there’s a special flight for them as well as staff who’ll wait on them.”

Shahrukh to enact a skit at the function
Scuttlebutt has it that the ‘Ra.One’ superhero Shahrukh Khan will be seen enacting a small skit at the function.

And as per the sources, bride Mallika Reddy and bridegroom Siddhart Reddy will also be a part of Shahrukh’s play.

Reddys woo Bollywood's A-list celebrities

With A-lister actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan on the confirmed guest list, the wedding of industrialist GV Krishna’s granddaughter, Mallika Reddy to Siddharth Reddy, scion of a Hyderbad based infrastructure company, just got bigger. It is also learned that that most of the industrial captains in Mumbai as well as actor and actresses like Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Rani Mukerji are being specially flown in for the wedding, which is scheduled to be held this Friday (June 10) in Hyderabad.

The best part of the wedding has been its invites for special guests. “The wedding invites have a special gift with each of them. They special invitees have either received a solitaire ring or a Satya Paul or Sabyasachi saree with the invite—an exquisitely carved image of Lord Venkateswara with sweets in a specially designed box,”says a source.

All the top hotels of Hyderabad city have been put under immense security after the word got out that the three Khans have been invited for the wedding. “The top floors of all the hotels have been made inaccessible for people without access cards. The suites of all the hotels have been booked for guests with as many as eight layers of security beginning from the airport,” the source adds.

A special air-taxi service has been arranged for the three Khans and the Bachchans. “Two chartered aircrafts have been kept on standby for special guests; it’s not part of the fleets that are carrying guests from Mumbai and Delhi. Salman, Aamir and Shah Rukh are supposed to arrive at different hours, so there’s a special flight for them as well as staff who’ll wait on them,” says the source adding that Shah Rukh might perform a ‘small skit’ with the bride and the groom.

SRK DANCED TO SALMAN’S TUNE

He did a ‘Dhinka Chika’ at the Reddy wedding on Friday, and also made a grand entrance to the music of ‘Main Hoon Don’

Those looking forward to seeing Shah Rukh Khan dance to chartbusters from his films at GVK Reddy’s granddaughter Mallika Reddy’s wedding to Siddharth Reddy in Hyderabad on Friday were in for a big surprise. Says our source, “He entered to “Main Hoon Don”, but then he noticed that Amitabh Bachchan was also there. So, he apologised to Bachchan jokingly, saying he shouldn’t have entered like that since the ‘original’ Don (Bachchan) was already there.” And then, he announced an original item made “By the Reddys, for the Reddys, from “Ready” and grooved to Salman Khan’s hit track “Dhinka Chika”. Sallu of course, wasn’t there! SRK even put his shades on his back collar like Salman does in the song.
The source said, “When he performed, everyone went mad. He performed to a medley of his songs, but it was his “Dhinka Chika” stint that had everyone talking. He wasn’t uncomfortable, he is a true performer. In fact, Mallika’s mother Pinky had even asked SRK for a discount for performing at the wedding, but he politely refused.”
Besides this, SRK also performed to “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” with Rani Mukerji. SRK’s act ended in “Om Shanti Om”, style with him dancing with all his leading ladies – Rani, Anushka, Priyanka and, even Ranveer.
>> KYA ITEM HAI!
Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh flew to Hyderabad together to dance at this sangeet ceremony. But spotting shutterbugs at the airport, they took an alternate exit. But the shutterbugs got them, and the duo tried not to be clicked together. But at the sangeet, the master of ceremonies Vivek Oberoi announced that Anushka and Ranveer are “the hottest, dynamic & most happening couple in B-wood right now.” Oops!

Is Rani the item girl in HOUSEFULL 2 - The real status

Though there were talks of Rani Mukherjee doing an item number in HOUSEFULL 2, it has turned out to be a hoax call.

"After the success of NO ONE KILLED JESSICA, rumours were flying thick that Sajid Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala were very keen to bring Rani on board for a specially designed item number in HOUSEFULL 2," informs a source, "It would have been special because in her decade long career so far, Rani has done only one item number for a film where she is not a lead actress. That was for 'Kaali Nagin' opposite Aamir Khan in MANN."

What would have made this item number further special is Rani being in the same film as Akshay. Though confirmation is yet awaited on whether Akshay and other boys (John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh, Shreyas Talpade) would feature in the item song, it seems like a tempting preposition, especially after 'Dhanno' (Jacqueline, Akshay, Arjun, Riteish).

"It would have been a casting coup, albeit for just a few minutes, had Akshay and Rani come together. Can you believe it that though Akshay has practically worked with actresses across generation, Rani is the only one who has never been paired opposite him," quips a prominent film-maker. Sajid Khan too doesn't help the cause by stating that no one has been finalised yet for the item number.

CHECK OUT: Akshay plugged Shreyas into HOUSEFULL 2

"What you are hearing is plain speculation," says Sajid from London where he is currently shooting the film, "This is a very big item number and I would be shooting it at Mumbai in the month of September."

Tell him about the rumours making the rounds around Rani being the chosen one and Sajid says, "I was myself very surprised to read that. We have neither approached nor finalised anyone. I don't have a wish-list either. How can I do that when I don't have a recorded song?"

Looks like Akshay Kumar would have to wait for much longer before Rani Mukherji ends up sharing a frame with him on the big screen.

Take me back Vishal, says Rani

Now that Vidya Balan has been left out of the Ishqiya sequel, the female lead in Vishal Bhardwaj's next venture is up for grabs. And the first one to pitch in for the same, seems to be Rani Mukerji, the actress who earlier had refused to work with Bhardwaj in Ekta Kapoor produced Dayaan.
According to sources, Rani has been sending feelers to Bhardwaj of late. She wants to be a part of Dedh Ishqiya (yes, the sequel has now been officially titled) and mend bridges with the filmmaker. She had earlier refused to work with him in Dayaan since she did not want to be cast opposite Emraan Hashmi and that too in a role of a witch.
Interestingly, Rani and Vidya had never bonded too well. On December 22, Mumbai Mirror reported how Rani had pulled a few strings to be the centre of attention during the No One Killed Jessica publicity campaign.
However, it's not the cold war between her and Vidya that made Rani go the extra mile to try for a role in Dedh Ishqiya. "Rani doesn't want to burn bridges with Vishal. She likes her work and wants to work with him soon," informed a source.
Mansi Maroo of Shemaroo, the producers of the sequel said noncommittally, "We are still working on the script." Bhardwaj remained unavailable for comment.
However Rani’s oficial spokesperson said, “Till date Rani has never sent out feelers to any filmmaker. Coming from a film lineage, she knows and firmly believes that if she suits a role, the maker would leave no stone unturned to cast her. She has not sent any feelers to Vishal either but yes she would definitely love to work with him.”

Kangna Ranaut to star in Ishqiya sequel?

The buzz is gaining ground that Kangna Ranaut might just takeover from Vidya Balan as the heroine of the Ishqiya sequel, Dedh Ishqiya. Arshad Warsi, one of the male leads in the series, has confirmed that Kangna just has to finish the formalities of signing the dotted line.

Director Abhishek Chaubey has already said the sequel will have two heroines, and he wants Madhuri Dixit as one of the female leads. Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi return as the heroes. If the rumour is indeed true, Kangna has beaten hollow Rani Mukerji's desperate attempts to get into the Ishqiya sequel.

No sooner was it announced that Vidya is no longer a part of the sequel, than reports suggested that Rani had started campaigning to get the role.

Karishma or Rani for 'Heroine'?
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, July 06, 2011]

Aishwarya Rai may not be doing 'Heroine' any more but that hasnt closed all options for Madhur Bhandarkar and UTV. They must just have other alternatives round the corner with other big names like Priyanka Chopra, Karisma Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee being thrown around.

Priyanka was the next obvious choice but she has already denied being approached for the film. Given her earlier association with Madhur in 'Fashion', she would have been just the right candidate. But currently there are other big names like Karisma and Rani popping up. Hottest of them all is of course Karisma as she has already announced her big screen comeback with Vikram Bhatt's 'Dangerous Ishq'.

Says a film enthusiast, "I would want to see Karisma come back with 'Heroine'. After all she is the most experienced of all. If she wouldn't have retired, no one other than her, not even Aishwarya could have performed the role better. She belongs to the first family of

Bollywood, the Kapoors, and unlike Aishwarya or other established heroines, she understands the industry best."

Meanwhile there are also whispers around Rani Mukherjee being a possible candidate as well. "She may not be as charismatic as the rest but senior actresses mein aur choice bhi kahan hain. Preity Zinta is just not happening while someone like Urmila Matondkar was never so successful to deserve a title role like this," says an industry veteran.

Given the fact that Aishwarya won't be returning for at least a year and a half, Kareena unavailable for next one year and audience rooting for the film to be made, Madhur may just be left with the choice of choosing between Priyanka, Karisma and Rani.

======================

When writer of the "Heroine" does not think Rani is hot then there is no chance she will be approched :

==========================

Heroine cannot be pulled off by a pregnant

Just a day after Madhur Bhandarkar wrote a detailed blog about the shelving of his ambitious project Heroine following Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's pregnancy, the writer of the film Anuraadha Tewari express her views on the matter which seems to have been blown out of proportion. Here is what she has posted on her social networking profiles.

I think this one has to be the non debate of the century. I mean I can't believe it's become about gender discrimination – my first reaction was huh??

This is the VISUAL medium. Unlike any other profession, this is work where writers and directors 'visualize' things and break their backs trying to make it all real or believable or both. Am not even harping on glamour, am just saying believable. The character in 'Heroine' (since I have written it) CANNOT be pulled off by someone pregnant. It is as SIMPLE as that. Forget the physical strain and emotional stress and all that jazz, we can keep debating that ad nauseum . . . it simply does NOT fit into THIS role. This is a strictly adult film with mature content (no it's not porn). It's just bold in the visual and mature in what it's depicting.

Of course, people have gone on about it without knowing ANYTHING about the script. But surely knowing the kind of cinema the Director is known for, I can assure you it is NOT nice, even for an informed audience member like me to see a pregnant woman drink and smoke and snort coke and sleep with various people. I would cringe, seriously I would! Much like if I knew Malaika Arora was pregnant while doing Munni Badnaam (not before and after), or Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct . Or Hema Malini in Sholay as Basanti or Kareena Kapoor in We Are Family while the other actress in both the Films (Jaya and Kajol) was pregnant – cause it didn't get in the way of their roles . . . simple.

It is about creative liberty and NOT about desirability in Motherhood that it's suddenly been turned into. OF COURSE Malaika is hot even now, post motherhood. Most Hollywood actresses are! What's sex appeal got to do with Motherhood anyways??? Rani isn't considered hot without being married or a mother, Malaika is hot with both . . . so??? Am just amazed that we have such short attention spans that anything that is said in a high pitch with authority becomes the truth . . . I mean really!!!

As for the contentious pregnancy clause... well, I am personally all for it. Because it's a CLAUSE not a LAW! No one is saying that there should be a law stating that no actress can ever be a Mother. It is a clause that may be needed in a certain Film. I think that should be left to the Producers as well as the actress. Actors include clauses of their own (some of them would really kill you!) so why not one from the makers' side. The actress can REFUSE if she doesn't find it important or applicable or offensive or whatever. She has a Choice. But here is what the clause protects – not just the Producers' money but the hard work of an ENTIRE unit. People seem to be forgetting that altogether! Like in the case of 'Heroine' where because of the actress not fitting into the role anymore, the Film gets plugged and at least a 100 technicians find themselves jobless. All of us employed for the next 6 months (not writers but the others) are suddenly without work and NO MONEY!!! (Even writers are only paid about 50% before shoot). So the situation is not just responsible for the Makers. It is so for the ENTIRE unit – the true victims of the case.

Having said all of this, and in no mood to mud sling and as the only woman on the team I must state that I am quite CONVINCED that the intention of the Actress was NOT to be unfair or dishonest. I personally think (and have said so earlier) she was genuinely warm and receptive and TRULY CARED for the script. However, my sense is that she was caught in a personal situation – a very tricky one at that and perhaps hoped that it would all work out in the end, especially, since I have no doubts on her dedication and sincerity to the Film. My feeling is that it sort of got baldy handled from the announcement onwards. Even after that things could have been sorted from both ends and, knowing the Director, if sorted amicably, there is no DOUBT in my head that he would have waited for her to return.

What saddened and intensely angered me were the planted stories thereafter (I must congratulate the PR though . . . it's a great job done, seriously!) to try and fudge and confuse the issue and getting gender into it. But am over that now... past the anger and past the frustration of watching 4 months of hard work, sleepless nights and missing life for a script DESIGNED for someone to go down the drain overnight. Knowing that my market value itself will suffer because of a shelved project . . . I am done with that and moved on and let go.

In this business, and otherwise, the only thing one can be is being true to one's craft and retain one's integrity and keep up the passion no matter what. Hopefully we have all done that and now let go knowing the Universe will do the right thing... do the needful. Like it always does :)
