Yoga can give you a youthful appeal
Nimisha Tiwari | Mar 8, 2011, 12.00am IST

Peace within: Yoga brings harmony into your mind and body
After a long day at work, don't you yearn to be agile and playful like a child. For those of you who feel that age is catching up, here's some good news - yoga can effectively bring about longlasting 'feel good' effect.

Actress Rani Mukerji is a firm believer of yoga and practices it regularly. She says, "Yoga is by far the best thing you can do for your body and mind. Since it massages your internal organs, it gives a youthful glow to the skin. It's little wonder why men and women who practice yoga look about 10 years younger."

Swami Ramdev Baba, who's been preaching yoga as a way of life believes that yoga can keep the body free of diseases. Interestingly, yoga has swept across the globe like never before. The US Army has introduced yoga for the first time in its physical fitness regimen. The changes in its 'combat readiness test' are being made as part of an overhaul of its fitness programme in 30 years, it was recently reported. Their training has already included elements of yoga and benefits of rest among other workouts.

Mickey Mehta feels that in the modern day world, the traditional practice of yoga can still integrate and harmonise different aspects of us humans. He preaches that with yoga comes balance, health and energy to our mind, body and spirit. He also follows various types of yoga, which helps one beat stress and unwind completely. To Bharat Thakur, yoga is the way ahead. He says, "Yoga can be initiated early in life. So that the benefits can last long."

Rani plays hard to get after last film's success
Priyanka Srivastava, Sonali Joshi and Shaikh Zaid | Mail Today | March 7, 2011 | Updated 11:12

No one Killed Jessica might have been a hit, but Rani Mukerji is still in no mood to sign films left, right and centre. She has also slimmed down a lot, but has been making it clear to all that she doesn't want to sign several films in one go.

In the past, Rani signed some films which did not fair well at the box office, nor give any push to her career. This is the reason why she has reportedly become very choosy these days.

A source says: "Rani has given very clear instructions to her staff that she would not take roles only for the sake of it. She has been reading scripts far more seriously and is very picky about what her character would be." Rani has just signed the yet untitled film directed by Reema Kagti, which also stars Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, solely because of her role, which is scripted well.

Rani was keen on working with Aamir after a gap of several years. They last appeared together in the film Mangal Pandey. So, Rani was eager to be seen again with Mr. Perfectionist. Besides this, her staff is tactfully turning down offers that come her way. She doesn't want to offend filmmakers, but at this point, Rani is clear that she will not sign films only for the sake of friendship.

We women are kickass: Rani
Meena Iyer, TNN | Mar 8, 2011, 12.00am IST

2011 (at least the first three months) belong to Meera Gety, the spitfire, will-stop-at-nothing scribe from No One Killed Jessica; a role beautifully embodied by Rani Mukerji. This made her the ideal candidate to edit TOI's International Women's Day issue.

The dynamic actress says that playing the part and adding her own vibe to it, came naturally to her because, "the screen character of the go-getting journalist is in a way synonymous to the modern Indian woman who doesn't shy away from getting what she wants, no matter how she does it.''

She adds, "I just felt this is how the character should have been, without of course getting into the cuss words... because that is cinematic liberty. However what is important here is that the behaviour of Meera is unapologetically done. And, it is sheer coincidence that she is shown as a journalist. Honestly Meera could be anyone. She could be a doctor, a lawyer or an editor.''

But for the light-eyed actress, the real achievers are not just the ones who are out there in the world. She salutes the spirit of every housewife in India, "I feel people like us, with our achievements, still have the liberty to take a break from the routine matters like running a home. I don't think we will be able to do what the average Indian homemaker does on a regular basis. I consider them super women. Honestly, for me that is the most attractive quality in today's modern woman. In every sphere, be it journalists, pilots, police officers, corporate heads or actresses, all of us are trying to achieve something. We stop at nothing."

She feels there are no limitations for women, "We aren't satisfied. We feel satisfied when we have our children and take that break to nurture our kids and physically gain strength. But even that is just a temporary break. Soon we are back on our feet.We women are just kick ass! We are super!''

Asked whether it is necessary to have one day a year earmarked to celebrate the spirit of womanhood, Rani says, "It should not be restricted to one particular day. But it doesn't hurt if it is scheduled as March 8, which is also my birth month. So for me it is an extra special month. I don't think we have a men's day marked out and that makes me happy! Like I keep saying, women are special.''

Rani's take on going under the knife
"I know of many actors who go under the knife to alter their looks. But personally, I am against that. God has made us all different and special. It's best to work around it.

As they say, sab ko sab kuch nahi milta. This holds good in everyone's case. But then, if surgery can help one boost their confidence and it's a must-do, then to each her own. I am not here to pass judgement on their personal choices. However, in my case, I have my parents to thank. I have great genes."

Partying has become a liability for Rani
"I've never really been a party person. I started working at the age of 17 and didn't get to party at an age when everyone else is. I didn't even realise when my 20s got over. It's just been the last 3-4 years that I took a break and started taking things a little easy.

But still, partying has not really happened. I can't get myself to get ready for a party! You have to be flawless when you go for one! God forbid if you wear chappals at one or repeat a set of earrings! (laughs) Partying has become a liability because now, you have to dress up for people who're watching you. I prefer staying at home with my niece and nephew, they entertain me. And if I go out, it's for dinner with friends and family."

Rani's Mr perfect
"I have always been in awe of the women in my family, who have been very strong, independent and open-minded. My nani was very keen on seeing one of her daughters as an actress. And she didn't give up until one of them (Debashree Roy) actually became a renowned actress. My nani has been a very inspiring woman. My mom too is very talented. She has sung songs with Mohammed Rafi on the stage. And she has been a wonderful mother to me and my brother."

What Rani wants in a man...
A man who respects my parents.
A chilled out guy, who doesn't take things too seriously.
Someone who matches my wavelength.
I would be attracted to a man who understands me.
He should be sexually active (laughs).

Rani's take on Hollywood movies
"As for women playing strong roles in Hollywood movies? Well there are so many, but a few come immediately to mind. There's Meryl Streep who I loved in Mamma Mia. She was simply amazing in that.

And Titanic happens to be an all-time favourite for the way it was made and Kate Winslet who was great in it. And Erin Brokovich for playing such a strong true-life character. She was married, had three kids and in addition to that, she was able to achieve something so great."

Cinema’s Ms Dependables

Love them, adore them and bank on them. On Women’s Day, trade pundits list three female actors who can carry a film firmly on their light shoulders

Priyanka Chopra
She is one actor who is trying to balance experimental cinema with commercial entertainers. PC’s risky outings like
What’s Your Raashee and 7 Khoon Maaf may have not set the cash registers ringing, but her acting prowess has won her critical acclaim. “Priyanka has taken the most risks as far as women-led movies are concer-ned and proven her mettle despite their fate,” says trade analyst and critic, Joginder Tuteja. The actor, 28, won a national award for Fashion and charges Rs.5 crore per movie, as per industry sources.

Rani Mukerji
With movies like Black and No One Killed Jessica (NOKJ), Rani, 32, has proven that she can carry a film on her shoulders. Many were trying to write her off, but her outing as a fiesty journalist in NOKJ has resurrected Rani’s career and reaffirmed her status in the industry. “Even if her films fail, Rani manages to get accolades and that is what is important to be bankable,”says film critic Rajeev Masand. Rani charges above Rs.3.5 crore per movie, as per industry insiders. She has also signed Reema Kagti’s much-anticipated film opposite Aamir Khan.

Vidya balan
Vidya, 33, has defied Bollywood’s two stereotypes - that a film needs a strong male lead to succeed, and if it does have one, the heroine goes unnoticed. Vidya, however, carried Ishqiya on her shoulders and got a tremendous response for Paa, despite Big B’s presence. The actor’s plane-Jane act in No One Killed Jessica won her critical plaudits. “Vidya is an actor you can depend on,” says trade analyst Amod Mehra. She reportedly charges Rs.3 crore per film.

I have an Indian woman's body: Rani

...says Rani Mukerji, who has never been fitter or looked better than she does in her 30s

My exercise regime
I am regular with my exercises. Yoga is something that I just cannot do without these days. I believe everyone, should get into yoga. While exercising, I do chin ups and avoid weights.

My problem areas
I have a typically Indian woman's body (laughs). You know what I mean we just tend to store fat at all the wrong places and it shows.
Indian women are a little on the heavier side, especially on the lower half of our bodies.

My strengths
I believe that God has made us all special in his own way. It's best to work around what we have. I am against going under the knife. Nowadays, it's difficult to say if a woman or man's body is God-given or doctor-given. But then, to each his own.

My diet
I am a true blue Bong! Bengali cuisine is full of flavours. It is rich, tasteful and is steeped in high calories. Good food means a lot to us. My brother and I have been brought up on a completely Bengali diet with aalu sheddho baat, ghee bhaat, luchi aalur dom.

Most of our food is deep-fried, carbohydrate-rich or is sweet. After my father's heart attack our diet at home underwent a change. My mother began with changing the oil, the cooking medium, then slowly the diet became healthier. We should be careful of what we eat and shouldn't overindulge.

My IDOLS
Most people these days really take very good care of their bodies and have great bodies. Here are the few names I can think of now...

Ideal celeb body (male): Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan
I believe Hrithik has a faboulous body and he takes good care of it. And Shah Rukh Khan has a very fit and lean body I have seen him since years and he is still the same and that is truly faboulous.

Ideal celeb body (female): Shilpa Shetty and Bipasha Basu
I think Shilpa Shetty has a great body, one of the best in the industry. Bipasha also has a fab body.

'Aamir', 'NOKJ' director Rajkumar Gupta's next two projects
By Taran Adarsh, March 8, 2011 - 09:12 IST
Rajkumar Gupta, the director of AAMIR and NO ONE KILLED JESSICA, is not resting on past laurels. Instead of taking time on his next project, Gupta has decided to make two films, one after the other. The first one is called GHANCHAKKAR and the second, RAPCHIK. GHANCHAKKAR will be his third collaboration with UTV.

What's GHANCHAKKAR all about? "It's a black comedy. This one's completely different from what I've attempted so far," the talented director says. Is the humor on the lines of JAANE BHI DO YAARO? "That's a classic and I shouldn't even think of comparing my film with it. But I would love it if my film also has a similar recall value. The film will be real, yet will have humor woven in the narrative," he adds.

The casting of GHANCHAKKAR is still to be finalized. As for RAPCHIK, the director will move on to that project once he completes the filming of GHANCHAKKAR.

Rani Mukerji: Healthwise and happy
Riddhima Seal | March 9, 2011 | Updated 00:00 IST

The actress says a healthy lifestyle is key to her superb energy levels.

In a career spanning over a decade, Rani Mukerji has worked with some of the finest names in the industry. Having handled serious and glamorous roles with equal élan, she has been hailed as one of the finest actors of her times. The queen of hearts who is now gathering critical acclaim for her role in the latest outing No One Killed Jessica, says adopting a healthy lifestyle has helped her emerge a more contented and happy person.

From bubbly to the svelte, the one thing that has always shown through is your fabulous energy level. The key to your high spirits?
Good health is key to my existence. I firmly believe in the saying health is wealth. If you have health on your side, everything else falls into place. That's exactly how it has worked for me. If I don't feel healthy and happy from within, I can never be on top of myself. I have always been an extremely cheerful and positive person and this is because I've always maintained good health.

When you say good health, what all does it entail?
Essentially, adopting a good lifestyle with a fair amount of discipline-eating healthy, working out religiously, sleeping well, taking time off to unwind and keeping stress at bay. It's about looking and feeling good from within, about being physically and mentally fit, the importance of which I continue to realise with every passing day. It's a prerequisite to be able to do my work well and lead a balanced life.

So, was pursuing the cause of good health more of a professional requirement?
Although I've always been enthusiastic about health, honestly speaking, I wasn't the fittest of people during my early days. I've always been a foodie and although I wasn't exactly feeding on junk, I would pick unhealthy foods at random. I would exercise on and off but there was acute lack of commitment. But when you are in your 20s, you can get away with a lot of things without having to put in much effort. Even crash diets work because your body is able to handle a lot more. But as you age, you start caring more about your body. Beyond a point it's not about shedding the extra kilos, it's about leading a healthy life. My dad's illness was some kind of an eye-opener for me and I realised I just had to take care of my health. Of course, my profession also requires me to look great all the time. That was definitely a factor but not the determining factor. But honestly, once you get on to a fitness regime and start enjoying it, you become a fitness freak for life. You just need to begin somewhere.

And what does your typical workout regime look like?
Since I'm a person who tends to put on weight at the drop of a hat, it was extremely important to be able to devise a workout regimen suiting my requirements and stick to it. I now alternate between cardio exercises for 45 minutes, weight training for 30 minutes and yoga which essentially includes several sets of surya namaskars. I usually work out early in the morning for at least an hour and a half healthy, working out religiously, sleeping well, taking time off to unwind and keeping stress at bay. It's about looking and feeling good from within, about being physically and mentally fit, the importance of which I continue to realise with every passing day. It's a prerequisite to be able to do my work well and lead a balanced life.

I usually work out early in the morning for at least an hour and a half in my home gym. Two-three days of the week, my workout extends up to two and a half hours depending on what is scheduled for the day. When I was essentially focussed on losing the inches around my waist before Dil Bole Hadippa, I followed a more gruelling workout schedule, but right now, I am mostly focussed on maintaining my weight and staying in shape. Picking the right foods and sticking to them diligently also figured high on my list of priorities. However, since I've been working out for quite a while now, yoga works best for me. (She trains with yoga expert Payal Gidwani Tiwari). Besides upping my stamina levels and increasing flexibility, it has done wonders to the way my skin looks and feels. And ever since I've taken up yoga, I also tend to feel more content from within.

And that translates into your much talked about smile…
I believe in three essential principles when it comes to leading a good life: eating right, sound sleep and a hearty laugh. I believe in eating right as getting the right amount of nutrition through everyday foods has a great bearing on the way one looks and feels. I haven't ever given up on anything, I've just brought more discipline to the table: cut bad carbs, opted for healthy fats, chose proteins wisely and included loads of veggies and fruits in my everyday diet. Having said that, it's also important to leave space for occasional cravings. This apart, I always ensure I get my full six to eight hours of sleep every night. On days, when I haven't slept enough, I invariably wake up feeling cranky and continue to feel lazy through the day. On such days, I make sure I catch up on a power nap at some point in the day. It works wonders in upping one's energy levels.

And yes, I like to smile, I'm essentially a happy person. I actually laugh my way through stressful situations, I take things a little less seriously than I should and all these things help me stay and feel younger at heart. My mantra for instant happiness: an unwinding session with my family.

A guide to the sizzling Sarees of Rani Mukherjee

rani mukherjee in gold-sareeRani Mukherjee, Bollywoods Bong star is mostly seen dressed in Sarees. Not only she sports this Indian look in award nights but she looks extremely comfortable and chic, being in the skin of the quintessential Indian woman. In sarees, though she endorses many designers, but it is Sabyasachi Mukherjees creation that she prefers wearing the most.
Rani Mukherjees take on Sarees

Rani seems to have a fetish for the color red. Be it a gorgeous heavy polka dotted saree with golden gota patti (border) on the pallu that she wore at Shilpa Shettys wedding reception or a simple saree in net fabric, it is the color red that is dominant in her choice.

She was once spotted in a translucent saree, which made her look sizzling, more because of the color red and the revealing silver crystals laced doris at the back of the blouse. The poise to carry a see-through net saree as well as a heavy designer silk saree is always seen in Rani. At the launch of Dance Premier League, Rani was seen wearing a golden saree with red velvet patti (border) with golden embroidery on the pallu, which clearly reveals in some form or the other, the color red is present in her attire. She looked gorgeous in this Manish Malhotra design.

Rani loves to wear net and tissue sarees as she has been witnessed most of the times wearing sarees of this variety. Among other kinds, she prefer chiffons and at special occasions silks. However, during the Durga Puja she is mostly seen wearing the Handloom Cotton Sarees of Kolkata or the heavy silks of Southern India. A great sense of mixing her saree wardrobe gives this Bong beauty a mix of a girl-next door as well as a diva look.
Rani Mukherjees take on Accessories

Rani surely knows what to wear with what kind of saree to get the appropriate simple yet diva look. She knows how to strike the right balance in sarees and its accessories. She likes wearing simple round banjara earrings with dark royal blue sarees, which are elegantly laced with rusty shades brocade and golden botis.

She has also been spotted wearing a chunky pearl necklace suiting pink sequins work done on chiffon saree at a certain occasion, which she paired it with a silk sequined halter blouse. Rani usually prefers big bangle earrings to small tops.

She is hardly seen carrying purses, but the lady didnt lag behind in matching polka dotted red saree, she wore at Shilpa Shettys reception, with a sleek golden clutch. Rani loves to wear halter neck and noodle strapped blouses, which gives the diva look with see-through chiffons and net sarees.

Whatever, the saree type is, whatever the color is, this lady knows how to capture the hearts of millions of fans with her effortless yet dazzling Indian stylization in nothing other than Indias Na

Rani Mukherjis secret revealed
Published: Friday, Mar 11, 2011, 13:29 IST
By Aakanksha Naval-Shetye | Place: Mumbai |

While actress Rani Mukherji may be known for her acting talent, not many are aware that shes an equally amazing cook too. And not just cooking, insiders insist that when it comes to running a house, Mukherjis just at as much ease in the kitchen, as she is while facing the camera. When asked, good friend and choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant confirms that Mukherji is indeed an excellent cook.

She bakes the yummiest cakes in the world! says Vaibhavi. Apparently, the actress loves to bake cakes for her friends for their special occasions. Our celebrations are incomplete without indulging in cakes baked by Mukherji. She makes any occasion extra-special with them, adds Merchant, who lovingly calls Mukherji, Miss Sunshine!.

Meanwhile, Mukherjis back in the reckoning after a commendable performance in No One Killed Jessica, earlier this year. Now the actress is gearing to get into the shoes of her next character in the Aamir Khan-starrer that will be directed by Reema Kagti.

And though she is tight-lipped about revealing anything about her role in the film thats being touted to be a murder mystery, what shes not hiding is her excitement about sharing screen space once again with one of her favourite co-stars, Khan.

According to a source, Rani and Aamir not only looked good together on-screen, they also became good friends after their film Ghulam. The two have been in touch with each other ever since and share a great comfort level on the sets too.

Yoga serves as a tonic for life
...says Rani Mukerji on her ways to unwind

My Personal De-Stress Mantra is...
to workout and do yoga. I dont meditate because when I meditate, all my worries come flooding back to my mind. Doing too much of cardio-workout is not good, therefore I do a mix of cardio and yoga. For me, yoga serves as a tonic for life.
In my leisure time...
I rarely get any leisure time because of my busy schedule. But whenever I do, I like to watch television. Because I love dance, I really love watching dance reality shows. Besides, this I love to spend time with my niece and nephew.
A cook or a foodie?
Im a total foodie. I love to eat Bengali food. I love to eat french fries and often often crave for them. Because of their unhealthy qualities, when I do eat them, I compensate the damage by exercising harder the next day.
My hobbies are...
Im a trained dancer and I love dancing. I also love watching movies. Titanic is my all-time favourite movie. I love movies, with strong women characters like Julia Roberts in Erin Brokovich and Meryl Streep in Mama Mia.
Chilling at home or a party animal?
I started working at the age of 17, which is ideally the age to party and so never really got into the habit of it. Im not much of a party person, Im quite lazy in that manner. I like going out with my friends sometimes. But basically, I love chilling out at home.
Tips to de-stress...
Exercising doesnt only keep one physically fit but also helps to de-stress. Yoga is one thing I would like to recommend to everytime. Spend time with your family and friends, and stay happy.
As told to LA

Ive been labelled a recluse: Rani Mukerji
Published: Friday, Mar 18, 2011, 10:19 IST
By Soumyadipta Banerjee | Place: Mumbai | Agency: DNA
Rani Mukerji

The charges against her are numerous from running the show at film-maker Aditya Chopras office to interfering in her directors work at the editing table.

While listing out the many negative stories attributed to her, actress Rani Mukerji, sitting at her cosy bungalow in Juhu, gestures for us to shut up.

These rumours usually come from people who have never interacted with me. They have never known me and they have never bothered to know me. There are so many people who come to me and say Oh! You are like this and we have heard so many things about you. I tell them that I know who all are doing it and I cant be bothered by them, she says.

When all her contemporary heroines especially Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are known to have aggressive publicity machineries in the industry, Mukerjis silence sticks out like a sore thumb.

I know that these days you have to be in circulation, even if you dont have a movie release, admits Mukerji adding, But somehow I have never bothered to have a personal publicity machinery. So, I have been labelled as a recluse now.And when something gets circulated against me, its too late for a clarification and the damage is done. I have given up clarifying to people, theres just no point in that, she says.

There are times when I get to know whos behind a particular rumour, and how it was done. But I decide against doing anything because they are the ones who will suffer in the end and not me. I dont hold any grudge against anybody, she adds.

Mukerji is gearing up for celebrations as her birthday is coming near (31 March). She hints that she is going on a holiday to celebrate her birthday with people close to her after spending some time with her family. We wonder, if its Aditya Chopra?

Of course, I wouldnt tell you with whom and where. I know that there are a lot of things that people want to know from me, but now is not the time to say anything, she trails off.

Rani Mukherjee to be the onscreen partner of Prithviraj

March 19th, 2011

Bong hottie Rani is all set to romance South Indian hotbod Prithviraj in Sachin Kundalkars untitled Hindi movie. Coincidentally, this would be Sachins debut movie in Bollywood. He is known mostly for his Marathi movies.

Prithviraj is the latest addition of South Indian heroes and heroines trying their hand in Bollywood, the last one being Asin. Prithviraj essayed the role of Ashs husband in the Tamil Raavan. Rani, whose last released movie, was No one killed Jessica by Raj Kumar Gupta, co-starring Vidya Balan, in January 2011. The movie did moderately at the box office.

For the moment, Prithviraj is waiting for his movie Urumi to release in March of this year; on the 31st. Bollywood is most certainly awaiting this movie as they expect Prithviraj and Sachin to bring in freshness with their new film.

Rani has proved her mettle time and again with movies like Ghulam, Black and Veer Zaara. At one time, she was the numero uno amongst the actresses in Bollywood. Her close competitor was Preity Zinta. Now its left for Prithviraj to prove his worth in Bollywood, all the more because of his pairing with a powerhouse performer like Rani Mukerji.

Rani Mukerjis success fundas
Published: Thursday, Mar 24, 2011, 13:59 IST | Updated: Thursday, Mar 24, 2011, 14:02 IST

Actress Rani Mukerji is on a high, thanks to the success of her last release, No One Killed Jessica. She was also seen on television where she was judging a dance reality show and the actor doesnt rule out taking on a bigger TV assignment soon.

I am open to TV offers now but it has to suit my like and dislikes. I have only gone for assignments that I felt were suitable for me in films too. And yes, I think I am looking forward to some more action on TV soon, she says.

Mukerji admits that TV as a medium has come as a fresh career option for film actors and she too is open to the medium. I have very fond memories from the reality show that I judged. It was a great experience for me. I think that these days TV offers plenty of scope and, more importantly, it satisfies ones creative urges too, she says.

Though there are adulations pouring in, Mukerji says that she has learnt to take everything with a pinch of salt. She adds that she gives her 100% to every role of hers, but at the same time rues that an actors efforts get noticed only when the film clicks at the box office.

I had put in the same effort in all my other films. But they got noticed during NOKJ because it was a success. Trust me I worked equally hard for a Dil Bole Hadippa too, she says.

Mukerji admits that it is difficult for an actor to guess the audience reaction at the box office. You can never gauge what is going to click and what is not. Everybody makes a film aiming to hit the marquee at the box office. Dil Bole... and Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic were also superbly made. But yes... NOKJ will stay in everybodys minds more because the audience liked it. But as an artist, every film for me is the same and it has the same amount of emotions attached to it, she concludes.

Would these actresses be this bold again?
Last updated on: March 24, 2011 12:12 IST

Rani Mukerji in Hey Ram

Mukerji's a committed actress with no qualms about on-screen passion, scorching up the screen on many an occasion with many a lucky leading man. However, in Kamal Haasan's unfavourably reviewed film on the life of a man who wants to kill Gandhi, audiences were shocked to see her and the veteran filmmaker-actor sharing kisses.

There is even a moment when the legend bites Rani's derriere. She might be a solid actress, but her discomfort seemed visible here.

Rani's To-Do List: Have her characters accomplished them all?

Rani Mukherjee is one of those phenomenal actresses who has played every character and age imaginable. Through it all she possesses a sense of timelessness that makes her perfect for every role she plays.

On her thirty-third birthday she looks back on her accomplishments and regrets with a smile. From her experiences she compiled a list of ten things a girl must do in her twenties to make the most of life. This list is comprehensive and daunting, including everything from skydiving to losing your virginity.

If not in her own life, on screen she's experienced it all. Let's see how much of this list her characters have fulfilled...

10.Do something physically adventurous
This one is easy. Whether it's running from the cops in Bunty Aur Babli or playing a fierce game of cricket in Dil Bole Hadipa, Rani's one tough, active lady.

9. Be at the top of your game
Hm... by the time Rani was 30, had been a wife, a heroine, a mistress, and a sister. She had over thirty different true loves. That says it all.

8. Go on a all-girl/boy vacation
This was a tricky one. Possibly the only one she hasn't fulfilled on screen. Can someone prove me wrong?

7. Know yourself
The most shining example of this is Rani's role in Black. One of her most serious performances, Rani's character not only gets to know and understand the world around her, but her place in it, as well. As a student, Rani's character goes from blackness and confusion into the light, and in the end becomes a teacher, herself.

6. Do volunteer work
This one came to me almost immediately because it is from one of my favorite movies. Suhani in Saathiya is a medical student and it is on a volunteer trip to a seaside town that Suhani and Aditya (Vivek Oberoi) first confess their love. Perhaps he was attracted to Suhani's intelligence and humanitarian work...

5. Have a healthy relationship with your parents
Well, Mehndi obviously would not be my first choice. But in Mujhse Dosti Karoge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai she had great relationships with her parents or parent in KKHH. Another great relationship, though a bit different, was in Baabul because her in-laws truly treated her like their own daughter. However, the best example I can think of is Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. Rani's character Badki has a such a devotion to her family that she must becomes a prostitute to support them. In the end, however, the family faces reality and accepts her for her sacrifice.

4. Have a bank balance
Rani's characters have accomplished this one without a doubt. In Hum Tum, Rhea becomes a fashion designer with her own Parisian boutique. She's living with her mother, so you know she's saving that money! While Vimmi in Bunty Aur Babli probably does not have a legitimate bank account, the criminal duo fell into some major cash scamming wealthy business tycoons.

3. Have your heart broken
Let's face it, when Rani Mukherjee sets her sights on a man, she usually gets him. But there are a few exceptions. In Saawariya, her character as a prostitute falls for Raj. Unfortunately Raj already has a true love and Gulabji must remain alone, but a friend to all. In her role as Rhea, her heart is well and truly broken in Hum Tum by Saif's Karan. As Priya in Chalte Chalte, she gets her heart broken by her husband's jealousy and anger. But in true Bollywood style both of these are only momentary and is just the beginning of a romantic conclusion and happy endings.

2. Fall truly, deeply, madly in love
To reiterate what I said about Number 3, Rani gets her man. There are few movies where Rani's character does not fall in love. I think she's got this one covered.

1. Lose your virginity
Rani's final requirement for turning thirty is a little surprising for a star who is known for keeping a proper public image. However, she's got a point and Rani's roles are no stranger to sex. In fact she has played a prostitute in at least three different movies: Mangal Pandey, Saawariya, and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. She's had more than her share of kissing scenes from Hey Ram to Bunty Aur Babli to Hum Tum. My favorite scene, however, that fulfills number one is the scene in Paheli that culminates in a loud thunderstorm on the roof the haveli.

Good list, Rani. It seems to have gotten the Bollywood beauty pretty far. While all of these things make for a good film, they seem to make an even better life.

Happy 33rd Birthday Rani!

I have no problems with Rani: Abhishek

Actor Abhishek Bachchan, 36, dismisses rumours that he and actor Rani Mukerji, 33, have had a falling out. I have absolutely no problems with Rani, says Abhishek, who was in the Capital recently.

Rani, however, has a different story to tell. Asked recently about her equation with the actor,
she said, The truth is that if a person (Abhishek) chooses not to invite you to his wedding, you realise where you stand with the person, referring to the fact that she was not invited for his wedding to actor Aishwarya Rai in 2007.

Asked about her statement, Abhishek says, Rani has been a wonderful friend and a great co-star. As for rumours that they avoid each other Abhishekat public events, he says, She has been most warm and congenial with me whenever we have met, he says.

Having done films such as Yuva and Bunty Aur Babli together in the past, the two were once considered a hit jodi. But, they havent worked together since 2007. If we get a script, I would love to work with her.

In town to promote his upcoming film Game, the actor is optimistic despite his previous flops. We all have our share of success and failure, you have to take it in your stride and improve.

I felt honoured says actress Rani Mukherji on meeting Pervez Musharraf

Actress Rani Mukerji still clearly remembers the day April 16, 2005 when she shook hands with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the then-Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. She was the only Bollywood star to greet Musharraf at Delhis Ashoka Hotel. Rani was included in the dinner because she was at that point of time Begum Sehba Musharrafs favourite actor after her act as a Pakistani human rights activist in Veer Zaara.

It was like a dream come true for me. I had a wonderful time. To just be part of such an event made me feel that, yes, Ive done something to achieve this. All the biggest dignitaries from both sides of the border were so cultured and down-to-earth. When I was invited I was disbelieving and overjoyed, says Rani adding that the knee-jerk reaction of Musharraf at that time was to invite her to Pakistan.

I guess Black and Veer-Zaara (both were released before the visit) made a tremendous impact across the border. I felt completely honoured to be part of the guest list. All the Pakistani delegates were really sweet. They were taking pictures of me. The Foreign Minister (K Natwar Singh at the time) introduced me to everybody. He was so sweet. He said hes a fan of one of my ads too, says Mukerji.

When the FM introduced me to his Pakistani counterpart (Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri), he insisted that I be invited to Pakistan. They said theyd love to have me in their country any time I want to go. President Musharraf and all the other delegates said Im very popular in Pakistan. The way they spoke and the kind of people they seem to be, I feel peace is around the corner. Lets join hands at least in sports, cinema and other cultural events, says Mukerji.

Rani still has very high praises of the Prime Minister as a host. Manmohan Singh struck me as a wonderful diplomat and a perfect host I cant help wondering about how far my destiny has brought me. I felt so proud to represent the film industry for such an important occasion, she ends.
