Bappa brings Vidya Balan-Rani Mukherjee closer Published: Wednesday, Sep 22, 2010, 12:45 IST Bollywood history is replete with examples of cat-fights. So, it wasnt surprising to hear that two of ourtop stars, Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji too shared cold vibes on the sets of their new movie together, No One Killed Jessica. Both the actresses who are otherwise known to be extremely fun-loving and outgoing, reportedly were hardly friendly with each other. However, the latest on them may just prove the reports wrong. A source close to both the stars insists that both of them are actually quite pally. They are doing a very sensitive film, so obviously the atmosphere on the sets cannot be very light. Well, there seems to be more truth in this than rumours of their catty attitude towards each other since, Vidya recently even attended the Ganesh puja held at Ranis residence. A source reveals that the two Ganesh-bhakts bonded quite well too. Vidya spent close to two hours at Ranis place, mingling with her family. They even had lunch together and on the menu was lots of girlie talk, the source said. Last we heard, the two were exchanging friendly banter about making shopping plans together! Another insider also says, Both are very fond of each other and more than that, they have immense respect for each other as actors. So, all those waiting for some real action, there are certainly no claws coming out here Well, for now atleast. |

================================== Salman-Aamir to walk the ramp Monday, October 4, 2010, 17:40 [IST] By: Upala KBR, Mid-Day After getting an all-guy gang of fellow actors to walk at his Being Human show last year, Salman Khan has now requested his leading ladies, among a few other actresses to scorch the catwalk this time. The all-girl brigade will walk the ramp at a fashion showing hosted by Salman Khan and his sister Alvira Agnihotri at the LFW on October 9. The proceeds from the show will go to Salman's NGO, Being Human. Buzz up! The success of last year's show (see box) is seen as reason enough to sign on to be a part of the charity event, and ergo, be in the man's good books. Alvira and Salman have sent out personal invites to Khan's leading ladies and they have responded almost instantly. Here's what you can expect... THE THEME: Changing fashion trends over time as showcased by outfits that symbolise various eras. CONFIRMED: Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Asin, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji. IN TALKS: With Sushmita Sen, Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone and Ameesha Patel. PATCH-WORK: > "Though Katrina and Salman are no longer together, she continues to be friends with Baby (Alvira) and Bhai (Salman). They asked her and she immediately agreed." > Priyanka, who also had issues with her Mujhse Shaadi Karoge co-star will be specially flying down from the UK for a day to walk the ramp for him. > Bipasha patched up with the actor during an awards event held earlier this year. "They are good buddies now," reveals our source. > Bebo is doing the show despite reports of her not getting along with Khan during the shooting of Main Aurr Mrs Khanna. Khan's Dabangg heroine Sonakshi Sinha hasn't been confirmed as yet. Also Malaika Arora Khan, Salman sis-in-law and the Munni of the moment won't be walking the ramp with him. Says the source, "The show will feature only Bhai's leading ladies, so Baby and he haven't even asked Malaika." There will be no showstopper. The girls will walk with Salman and Aamir for the grand finale. The ensembles have been designed for free and will be auctioned off later. The Kapoor sisters -- Karisma and Kareena -- will walk together. Salman and Aamir will be the only guys walking with the gals. Manish Malhotra will design the only two Indian outfits -- for Lolo and Rani. The rest have been sourced or designed by stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania. Though invited, Shilpa Shetty can't attend because she will be in London attending a family event. LAST YEAR In 2009, Salman put together an all-male cast for the Being Human Fashion Show. The men who walked the ramp included Ajay Devgn, Aamir Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Govinda. It was the first time Aamir modelled for a show and took to the ramp. This year as well, the actor will be present to show support to his friend, Salman. |

Rani Mukerji, Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan: Bonhomie in Style Posted on Thursday, October 07, 2010 (EST) Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri and Rani Mukerji bonded in great style at the HDIL India couture week 2010 opening party on October 5. Photo Credit: Sawf News Rani, 32, ditched her jumpsuits for the night as she stepped out in cyan one shoulder dress. Her draped, above knee length dress had a brooched cut-out drop shoulder. She accessorized with Rene Caovilla Swarovski snake sandals, sparkling silver clutch, dazzling hoop earrings, cuff in her left arm and a circular ring on her right hand ring finger. Her long hair, styled straight, cascaded down her back. She wore plum lip gloss, blue eye shadow and clumpy eyelashes. Shah Rukh looked dapper and his cheerful self dressed in black pants, chocolate dress shirt and wet look tousled hair. Gauri looked a stunner in a strapless red asymmetrical dress, red clutch and studded cross strap sandals. While Rani has become a regular at fashion shows lately, Shah Rukh is usually hard pressed for time. It was a lucky night, if not for Rani, then the photogs who got to snap the couple with her. |

No Khan can shake up Rani & SRK TNN, Oct 8, 2010, 12.00am IST So what if the Rani Mukerji is spotted hobnobbing with the two Khans Aamir and Salman who make up B-town's most-talked about new camp. About Aamir she's always said, "He is my guru." And although her screen pairing with Sallu didn't turn too many heads, she called Sallu, "The ultimate rockstar." So where does that leave SRK? Well, apparently, he's her friend, mentor and guide. Now that sums it all up, huh? With so many camp shifts happening in B-town (what with stars showing changing loyalties), everyone wondered where Queen Bee would land up. After all, she was the only one who atleast seemed to be the favourite of all the Khans. Recently, at an event SRK and Rani met warmly, in fact, nothing seemed to have changed between the old buddies. They chatted, posed for the photogs, and that's not all. zoOm's Planet Bollywood team captured the chivalrous Khan as he walked Rani to her car, held the door till she stepped in and waved as she sped away. Looks like no other Khan can shake up this dosti. It's the true 'We Are Family' kinds, hai na? |

Bipasha Basu takes John Abraham to celebrate Durga puja with her family Published: Wednesday, Oct 13, 2010, 15:07 IST By Soumyadipta Banerjee | Place: Mumbai | Agency: DNA John Abraham and Bipasha Basu In her own words, actress Bipasha Basu took actor-beau John Abraham to her hometown in Kolkata seven years ago, when they were just a year-old in their relationship. The star couple are once again Kolkata- bound for some family time with Bipashas parents, sisters Bidisha and Vijayeta, and her extended family for Durga puja. The actor this time is looking forward to it for more than one reason. Its my mothers birthday on Nabami (October 16), and Im planning to give her a surprise. Im also dying to see my niece (Bidishas three-year-old daughter), who Ive not seen for a long time. Yes, it is going to be one big family reunion, says Bipasha. Last time when I went with John it was pandemonium. The only thing that she misses about not celebrating Durga puja in Mumbai is not being able to spend time with her friend and actor Rani Mukerji at the Durga puja held by her family (organised by the North Bombay Sarbojonin Durga Puja Charitable Trust and supported by DNA). Attending the family puja organised by the Mukerji clan is a tradition that Ive followed even when I was a model. It used to be the closest to my house. Its around this time that I became friends with Rani and got close to the family. I have some fondest memories of the Durga puja there, after I moved to Mumbai. I am a regular there, and it has always kept me in touch with my roots, she says. |

What Rani really wants... Draped in a striking white and red saree, with a red bindi adorning her forehead, Rani Mukherji was the embodiment of poise and grace. She chatted with members of her family about the smooth-flowing of procedures at the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja that she has supported for several years now and wilfully let her fans lock her with their camera lenses. But something definitely was amiss about the actor who is otherwise known to be a bundle of energy. In between snatches of conversation with her closest family members and friends, Rani reveals to IBNLive her most sincere wish this Durga Puja. She says, My dad (veteran director Ram Mukherjee) is really sick and he has stayed behind at home. So, I am not in a very festive mood. I am sad and if there was one wish that the Goddess could grant me, it would be that my dads suffering and pain is relieved. While the Mukherjee familys Durga Puja is in its 63rd year, the Bollywood actor admits that a lot has changed over the years, especially since she became a household name after becoming an actor. She reminisces, Back in those days as a child, I remember our puja to be much more intimate. It has become so commercial these days. It feels strange. Since I am in films, I have to get used to the idea that there would be a lot of people around me. She adds, Our puja has taken a huge leap. It has become grander with the passing years. Rani recalls her favourite moments of her childhood during Durga Puja. She says, My cousins and I used to dance to Rabindranath Tagores songs. We used to have so much fun. Once again, this Puja, Rani chose to drape herself in a saree designed by Sabyasachi (one of her favourite designers). Ask her what the red and white colour of her ensemble means to her and she quickly replies, If you want to know the real significance of these colours, ask my mother. But to me, it symbolises Devi Durgas power, courage and strength. Every Bengali woman like me would like to emulate the Goddesss virtues. http://ibnlive.in.com/news/what-rani-really-wants/132994-8-66.html |

Sallus 8 muses through the ages By Tanya Banon in New Delhi THE LEADING divas of Bollywood sashayed down the runway for Salman Khans Being Human show at the HDIL Couture Week. Last year, Salman put together an all- male crew. This year, it was all about the glamour girls. Fashion through the ages was the theme of the show and a bevy of beauties walked down the runway decked in outfits designed by Manish Malhotra. Each sequence was introduced with an audio- visual that depicted the particular period along with dances reminiscent of that specific time like tap dance sequences and qawwalis. Preity Zinta opened the sequence in a black knee- length dress, representing the flirtatious 1920s. Next in line was Katrina Kaif in a long red gown representing the elegance of the 1930s. Rani Mukerji did full justice to the 1940s, looking beautiful in a black and white lehenga . Dusky diva Bipasha Basu wore a black gown with a fashionable thigh high slit representing the glamour of the 1950s. Karisma Kapoor was a tough act to follow in her red sari, bouffant and thumka s of the hip 1960s. Sushmita Sens sultry good looks complimented by an orange coloured kaftan and a sequinned mini skirt paid the perfect tribute to divas like Zeenat Aman from the 1970s. Priyanka Chopra sashayed down the runway in a baby- doll dress looking like the quintessential 1980s tease. Kareena Kapoors sultry allblack jacket and suit ensemble concluded the show with a tribute to the multifaceted woman of the 1990s. |

Durga Puja 2010 here is fascinating Rani Mukherjee Posted by admin on 15 October 2010, 6:53 am With the beginning of Durga Puja 2010, Bengalis rejoice as it is a real important time for them. Rani Mukherjee, the queen of Bollywood, in a chat shared what she feels about the celebrations in Mumbai and the fact that The North Bombay Durga Puja Samiti, a non-profit organisation, which was established by her grandfather Shasadhar Mukherjee of the Bombay Talkies fame, has completed 63 years of Navratri celebrations. How do you feel right now? RM:It feels great to be here at this time. It is amazing to see that the trust has completed 63 years. The celebrations have just grown bigger. The festivity is grander than before. One must be here to see how beautiful it is. The pandal is amazing. Is there any difference between celebrations in Kolkata & Mumbai? RM: No, there is no difference at all. The last five days of Navratri are the major days of celebrations for us. How come you are a part of the festivities this time? RM: Just the way I always am. Do you miss being in Kolkata during these festivities? RM: No, I have always been in Mumbai for Durga Puja as my family is here. But, here the celebrations are wonderful. The city is definitely doing justice to the festival. The pandal and the place, both are beautiful. It looks like mini-Kolkata. Any message for our readers? RM: Please come here and get the blessings of Maa Durga. Do take part in the celebrations and enjoy. by Shwetha Kannan About the North Bombay Durga Puja Samiti The North Bombay Durga Puja Samiti is a Mumbai based non-profit organisation, involved in various charitable causes. The trust was founded in 1948 by Shasadhar Mukherjee of Bombay Talkies, J. M. Bhadra and other family members and like-minded people of the Santacruz area. |

Rani Mukerji dazzles visitors at the first day of her Durga Puja Published: Friday, Oct 15, 2010, 11:10 IST The crowd gathered was expecting actor Rani Mukerji to make a brief appearance but she made a pretty good show on the first day of the Durga puja organised by her family at Santacruz. Durga puja is family time for me. It brings back all my childhood memories. It is such a good feeling to see all my family members rejoice under one roof, says the actor who was looking dapper in a white saree with a red and black border. According to Rani, Durga puja is a time when everybody should join together and celebrate, regardless of faith or religion. I am personally inviting everybody to attend the puja. The doors are open for all. In fact, I urge everybody to make time and come at least once during prasad time (distributed free of cost to devotees who come and visit the puja). We cook a delicious Khuchudi (a Bengali version of the Khichdi) and tomato chutney (a sweet tomato Bengali dessert). It is a must-have for everybody, says the actor. According to the puja organisers, the evening programme saw a host of B-town celebs troop down for a dekko. Musician Bappa Lahiri, film-maker Ayan Mukerji of Wake Up Sid fameand the like turned up. Overall it was a superb show and we all loved it, says Debu Mukerji, one of the organisers of the The North Bombay Sarbajanin Durga Puja Charitable Trust and DNA Durgotsav 2010. Rani stayed at the puja for three hours and welcomed every guest of the family who had come down to attend the puja. Apart from Rani, her mother and brother Raja Mukerji were also constantly by her side. For todays puja, we will have Pritam performing with his band. We are very happy with the love that Mumbaikars have showered on our puja and I want to wish all of them a very happy festive season on behalf of the entire Mukerji family, Debu adds. |

Rani at Durga Puja celebrations By: Shaheen Parkar Rani and family kept their date with tradition despite the family patriarch being in the hospital Despite a personal crisis, Rani Mukerji along with her mother Krishna and brother Raaja did not break away from the family's age-old tradition of personally serving food to the thousands who throng to the Durga Puja celebrations organised by the Mukerjis. The star's father Ram Mukerji is unwell. A heart patient, he has a nurse attending to him 24/7, as he is mostly bedridden. In the past, he has also been hospitalised. Rani Mukerji with mother Krishna and brother Raaja and (inset) Ram Mukerji During the puja week, he suffered from a cold and flu. As a result, the family could not take any chances. Says Raaja, "He was still extremely keen to visit the pandal. We did take him for a very short while on one of the days." The Mukerjis attended the celebrations of the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee at Santa Cruz. Every year the family including Rani serves food during the bhog. Family custom "This has been the family custom for years," says Rajaa who is in the midst of the production of his first Hindi film Life Isse Gala Laga Le, a youthcentric film about the various pressures in life. Written and directed by Yogesh Pagare, it features Adhyayan Suman, Divya Dutta, Rahul Dev, Anita Hasanandani, Aushima Sawhney, Himani Shivpuri and newbie Vaibhavi Upadhyay. Rani's brother had earlier directed the Bengali film, Bidhata Lekha. Like sis, like bro! Taking Rani's example who lost oodles of weight through yoga, Raaja Mukerji too has shed the kilos. "The difference is noticeable as people are noticing it. I must have knocked off at least 10 kilos. I have been doing yoga besides controlled eating. I have also turned vegetarian. As my wife Jyoti is also a vegetarian I, too, decided for health reasons." |

A blast on the last day for Rani Mukerji Published: Tuesday, Oct 19, 2010, 11:02 IST By Soumyadipta Banerjee | Place: Mumbai | Agency: DNA Posted Image Rani Mukerji Actor Rani Mukerji was at her jovial best on the last day of the Durga Puja, on Sunday, as she danced and played with sindoor (a tradition at the Durga Puja) with her family that also included her aunt and National Award winning actor from Bengal, Deboshree Roy. Rani looking ravishing in a white and gold saree danced and sang along with the crowd on the last day of her family Durga Puja (The North Bombay Sarbajanin Durga Puja Charitable Trust, supported by DNA). Its been a wonderful puja this year. I thank all the people of Mumbai who have taken time out to visit our puja. Its been a roller-coaster ride for the whole family and I cant say how much we are grateful to all the devotees. Its really been a wonderful feeling to feel the love that everybody has showered upon us. I feel next time the puja will become even more bigger and better, says Rani. |

Past perfect Remember the Pujas of your childhood? Counting the pandals you have seen, wearing new clothes, and being happy and carefree? Here are some celebrities who recall their childhood memories of Durga Puja RANI MUKERJI actress I could write several weighty tomes about my Durga Puja memories! Our barir pujo (house puja) in Mumbai will enter its 63rd year this time. As children, we used to follow the rigorous puja routine getting up early in the morning, assembling in front of the deity for pushpanjali, looking after the guests and doing numerous other chores. We used to have soirees at home during the Pujas and one of my most memorable experiences was participating in the dance drama that we children put up. The preparations for the dance drama, based on Tagores works, began at least a month in advance. My aunt used to choreograph our act while my mother used to design our costumes. Thanks to those programmes, when people ask me about Tagores works now, I never draw a blank! As children, all the little things gave us such tremendous joy getting new clothes or taking part in paribeshan (serving food). I remember we were mostly asked to serve the bhajas and mishtis to our guests. Visarjan (immersion) was another exciting affair. We would go dancing barefoot all the way from Santa Cruz to Juhu beach. I would love to be part of this procession now, but my family members do not allow me to go beyond a few steps anymore. |

‘Puja is the time for lip-smacking food’ Posted Image Rani Mukherji at a Durga Puja Pandal. Rani Mukerji plans to indulge herself with delicacies during her family’s puja celebrations. After all the self-restraint, Rani Mukerji lets go on the occasion of Durga Puja or pujo, as the actress fondly calls it. Rani loves having the khichdi, bhaja— brinjal and potato fry, pulav made with paneer, payesh —kheer and chochori—a spinach during the five-day long festival. “I look forward to the festival throughout the year as it's during the puja that I get to eat this kind of food,” says the actress with a huge smile. As for her favourite food, it is the khichdi. “The taste of the khichdi is different through the year,” adds the actress. Rani has faint memories of her childhood days, when her cousins and she used to dance to Rabindranath Tagore’s songs during the Puja. The family's Durga Puja celebrations used to be a small affair and Bollywood stars occasionally visited the family. At times the stars even stayed over and performed at the evening cultural events, says the actress. With the years gone by, the celebration has got bigger and commercial. “But for me it is still the most important festival as it is the time when my cousins and friends get together. At the puja celebrations we have the sindoor khela while we are preparing for maa to leave, that's celebrated exactly like Holi and we play with colours. We burst crackers while proceeding for the immersions like Diwali. And like the Eid milap, the family comes together for the bhog. It's a culmination of all the festivals. That's why it is so special for me,” says the actress. |

A tale of two sisters Published: Friday, Oct 29, 2010, 14:28 IST By Soumyadipta Banerjee | Place: Mumbai | Agency: DNA Rani Mukerji Actress Kajol could not attend Rani Mukerjis Durga puja, but Rani is still ecstatic with the new addition in the family. It is not true that both of them (Rani and Kajol) share cold vibes. They share a very normal relationship. They are not too close but they are on talking terms and wish each other on family functions, says a friend close to Rani. This years Durga puja has brought in a lot of good news, said Rani, referring to the birth of Kajols son, Yug. Last year, Kajol was seen serving prasad to Rani during the bhog at the Durga puja. The puja was jointly set up by the Mukerjis during 1947. Our fathers (Ranis and Kajols) had established the Durga puja as a strictly family affair. At that point one needed a pass to get inside the mandalam. All the actors used to come on their own and perform at the cultural functions on all the four days of the Durga puja, she said. Mukerji said that she feels bad about the fact that a strictly family affair has now become commercial. The mahol was different in those days when we used to come and perform at our puja (shes referring to her brothers and cousin Kajol). Now it has turned into a commercial affair with artists being paid to perform, sponsors et al. I still long for something that I have left behind, she said. Sources also say that a lot of calls were made to Kajols house congratulating her on the birth of her son. Most of the calls, sources say, went to her mother Tanuja. Ranis family is very much in touch with Kajols mom, Tanuja and she took the congratulatory calls on behalf of her daughter, says the source. |

A dose of charity November 15, 2010 2:15:34 AM Ramola Bachchan, JJ Valaya and some artists came forward to support the cause through a campaign titled Because I am a girl, led by Plan India Not many of us would know that the master of couture JJ Valaya is a wonderful photographer too and surprisingly the designer is now coming forward with his photography works to let the people know about his hidden talent. But this is all for the cause of girl child in India that the designer agreed to display one of his photography work at an exhibition and offer it for an auction organised by Plan India. Though there is so much said and done on the cause of girl child in India, the famous people in Delhi are still trying their best to divert the attention of people towards the cause and lend their bit. Recently Ramola Bachchan, JJ Valaya and some artists came forward to support the cause through a campaign titled Because I am a girl, led by Plan India. An exhibition was launched to initiate the campaign and showcased art works by renowned artists like S H Raza, Seema Kohli, Akbar Padamsee among others. We have vowed to make every possible effort to save and protect each and every girl in the world. We will fight for their rights and therefore we have organised this exhibition that will be followed by an auction on the 19th of this month. The exhibition will also have some precious ornaments and jewel stones. The art works, photography work by Valaya and gemstones will be on sale at the auction. People like Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and ambassador of Italy will be the part of the gala event at Italian Embassy, said Bhagyashri Dengle, executive director of Plan India. The launch of the campaign was attended by Ramola and Seema Kohli and Ramola was the one who was speaking the most at the occasion. Girl education should become a strict law everywhere in the world as girls are much more capable of handling things and thus should be given appropriate awareness and knowledge, she said and Seema just agreed with her. Women are pioneering all the fields and have proved their mettle in different sectors like media, defense, politics, cinema to name a few. Thus their survival is must and very important. Moreover women are the creators of families and should be treated with respect and love, said Seema. |

Rani Mukherjee Gives 'Mother Teresa Memorial International Award' to Dalai Lama We love when Bollywood focuses on charity work and Rani Mukherjee did just that on Thursday as she handed the coveted award to the Dalai Lama in honor of his work to promote human rights in Tiber and elsewhere, as well as inter-religious dialogue. This is not the first time the Dalai Lama rubs elbows with Hollywood or Bollywood celebrities. Earlier in January, Richard Gere's spirituality took him to India where he prayed with fellow Buddhists alongside the Tibetan spiritual leader. Posted Image Posted Image |

Rani teams up with Aamir again Prithwish Ganguly, TNN, Nov 23, 2010, 12.00am IST Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji are back five years after they shared little screen space in that box office dud Mangal Pandey and 12 years since their blockbuster Ghulam. Several attempts to get the two superstars on board all these years had been made, but failed. Now the long wait comes to an end with Rani teaming up with Aamir for Reema Kagti's forthcoming film in which he plays a cop. The sizzling 3 Idiots jodi of Aamir-Kareena is also making a comeback in this film. Rani's inclusion is interesting. Bollywood was under the impression that the actress, who was delivering back-to-back hits with Shah Rukh Khan, would never be able to land an Aamir (SRK's biggest industry competitor) movie again. But strangely, Rani is not so chummy with SRK anymore because she is thick with his foe Salman Khan! Reema's film is being co-produced by Aamir, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and Rani and Kareena have been confirmed to play major and equally significant roles opposite Aamir in this untitled suspense thriller. Pre-production work is on in full swing and the film's scheduled to go on the floors for principal photography in March 2011. Producer Ritesh of Excel Entertainment confirms the news saying, "It's going to be exciting to see Aamir, Kareena and Rani coming together for the first time on screen." |
