Sabrina to appear in ‘Jessica’ film SUBHASH K JHA TIMES NEWS NETWORK Sabrina Lal, the doughty sister of slain model Jessica Lal, will make an appearance in the film No One Killed Jessica that Rajkumar Gupta is currently directing. Sabrina, who was hugely active in getting justice for her deceased sister, has lately shown more than a passing interest in the bio-pic. She’s also impressed by the director’s earlier film Aamir. According to sources, the reel Sabrina, Vidya Balan, plans to meet the real Sabrina very shortly. In the meanwhile, Gupta has been re-constructing the Jessica case that shook Delhi with paintstaking authenticity. The director has publicly said he wouldn’t want his film to be a dry bio-pic but a racy thriller based on facts. It was during one of the brain-storming sessions between the director and the actress that the idea of the real Sabrina Lal making an appearance at the end of the film came up. The idea was immediately carried forward. Apparently Sabrina has agreed to make a guest appearance in No One Killed Jessica but the news is being kept under wraps. |

RANI: NO MORE MUMMY ROLES HR HOLES idahimyhazelnutties! What’sup with you? Dunno why everyone is rejoicing the teaser of a rain that made its presence felt in the city the other night. If it did at all, thatis. Frankly,it didn’t even wet the parapet outside my French windows if you ask me.Anyway, before I go on and on about the weather woes, let me get straight to the gossip that’s been flooding my ears since the crack of dawn. Here goes… Let me start off this morning with some gup on Rani Mukherji.More so since it’s been quite a while since someone heard about her. Khair, I’m informed that a director recently contacted her for his next movie, saying he really wanted to work with her.And now that he has a suitable part, he didn’t think a second time before contacting her. But when Ms Mukherji learnt about the role, she declined. Kyun? Kyunki the kirdaar was of a mother to a nunder-10-year-old kid, says my informer. Taken aback, the nirdeshak is said to have reasoned that he had seen some of her movies and since she played a mom main them, he felt she’d do complete justice to the character in his film too. Bas, aur kya?Rani sahiba got upset with the argument and declared that she wanted to change her image. Apparently, she told the filmmaker that she’d be keen to work with him if he offered her a younger role in another subject, but she had enough of motherly roles and wants to stop doing them, lest she’s offered only mummy roles. Now, I don’t mind Ms Mukherji taking this stand, but I hope it applies to Aditya Chopra also.Or shouldn’t I ask? |

Rani losses her phone! TNN, Jun 4, 2010, 12.00am IST This Bong beauty is quite a rare sight these days, but guess where we spotted Rani Mukerji? At the special screening of Raajneeti. Looking lovelier than ever before, she socialised with her friends and did some sweet talk with the media — spreading her 1,000 watt energy all the way. Well, the focus of her evening was the woes of her phone. Sounding frustrated, she told us how her favourite phone slipped from her nimble fingers into water, and with that she lost her connect with the rest of the filmi duniya. Now, we’re wondering what the forever elusive Queen Bee is lamenting about, we doubt if she really cares about being a social bee anyways. And she can keep the media folks at bay too. So if anyone out there is feeling disconnected with Rani... you know what to vent out on. Even if it’s just an excuse. |

RANI’S LOSS, DEEPIKA’S GAIN DEEPIKA’S Gakey wakey my chocochip cookies! I know you’re feeling like lazing a while longer under your cool sheets, thanks to the cloudy aasmaan…But it’s time to rise forth and shine for here I am, with some garma garam gup that everyone in tinsel town is shup- W ping about. Readondahlings... Forstarters,a jasoos from Juhu has just dropped in to tell me that it’s not only some industry folks who have been at the receiving end of attitude from Rani Mukherji. Seems even those in the advertising and corporate world are wondering why the abhinetri is flying high considering that her recent films have bitten the dust. My khabru claims thatrecently Queen M was offered to be the brand ambassador of a naamcheen product. But she wasn’t too pleased with the money they said they would pay her,I’m informed.Apparently, she told them that she would re-consider their offer only if they were willing to cough up Rs 2.5 crore for ayear’s contract. Bas, aur kya?The brand custodians merely excused themselves saying they’d discuss her feein their board meeting and revert to her.Seems better sense prevailed, for they approached Deepika Padukone next. Pata hai kya? My informer says that the brandwallahs con- firmed Deepika for slightly less- er remuneration, but are extremely pleased with the fact that the younger actress is alot more popular and visible than Queen M. Now, that’s what I call a better deal. Wotsay ‘ Rani Sahiba’? |

Manisha finally ties the knot By 9 in the morning, Saturday, the main entrance of Gokarna Forest Resort was already surrounded by Nepali paparazzi. With DSLR camera on their hands, it seemed like the photographers who were at the resort were there to appear for a final examination. Their assignment was to get the best shot of the bride and groom and if they managed to capture images of some of Bollywood´s who´s who, they would pass out with flying colors. While our Nepali bride and Bollywood´s heroine Manisha Koirala was getting ready for her “D-Day”, lensmen outside the Gorkarna Forest Resort were getting restless. On the other hand, for a bride who stayed at the resort since last Friday, the wait must have seemed endless. Though her knight in shining armor - businessman Samrat Dahal - was supposed to be by her side by 9 in the morning, she had to wait for almost two hours. The paparazzis outside the resort were struggling to get themselves in for the wedding shoot without much success. However, the uninvited guests refused to give up. Finally at 10:45, a black Mercedes decked up with flowers showed up and the music band came to action. Cameras took their position immediately and all lenses tuned their focus toward hero of the ceremony Samrat Dahal. “Look, who´s there?” One whispered. “Wow! It´s Jackie Shroff,” the other replied. “Vivek Mushran is still so cute.” Someone from the crowd said while the other quickly added, “The BAD MAN, Gulshan Grover looks so dangerous.” Meanwhile, Deepti Nawal, a prominent character-artiste of Bollywood maintained her own space in the crowd. Because, all cameras were panned on Jackie Shroff, he suddenly felt insecure and security personnel had to use force to push away the uninvited guests, the lensmen. When Manisha´s bride, dressed in traditional Nepali bridal finally arrived, she finally heaved a sigh of relief. The smile that Samrat´s arrival flashed on her face lasted throughout the ceremony. Finally, dad Prakash Koirala followed the wedding rituals and handed over his adorable daughter´s hand to Samrat Dahal, who then took away the bride in the decked up Mercedes Benz. Sadly, actress Rani Mukherjee missed being a part of Swayamvar as she reportedly landed in Kathmandu late Saturday evening. The wedding reception was scheduled for Saturday at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza on Saturday where both Nepal and Bollywood´s who´s who had been invited. http://www.myrepublica.com/portal/index.ph...s&news_id=20073 |

A Touch of Romance If Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s attempt was to transport all visitors to his store into another time and era, he succeeded magnificently. At the launch of his flagship store—Sabyasachi—on Wednesday evening in Mumbai’s art district Kala Ghoda, a violinist, playing Edith Piaf’s La Vie En Rose greeted all who entered. With a vague smell of roses in the air and antique clocks, photographs and prints jostling each other on the unplastered walls, the shop reflected Mukhejee’s lifetime dedication to finding beauty equally in cobwebs and chiffon. “I’m very happy with how the store looks,” the designer acknowledges. “The attempt was to reflect the style of my clothing. There’s a lot of colour, but it’s all muted down with age.” It’s taken the Kolkata native a long time to come up with his Mumbai store. He’s had the space on rent for many months, but managed to put everything together only once the fervent activities of his other commitments were done with, most notably his styling for Raavan. “I was supposed to launch this store three months ago, but there was so much else to do. And this week, we had to put in 92 hours of non-stop work to get it ready in time for the launch.” Given the preparation that went into it, the launch was surprisingly low-key, with only actress and longtime-muse Rani Mukherji as the biggest celebrity guest. But then, the designer is not exactly well-known for his society wining-and-dining ways. Register NowFashionandYou.com/Re The store’s décor is inspired by Parisian romance. Mukherjee explains as he walks us through the shop, “The reason the whole world celebrates Paris is because the Parisian’s celebrate themselves. The best way we could achieve the kind of vintage romance that Paris is known for, was by using pieces from our own history. Which is why I was very particular about each piece that went up here—I’ve sourced photographs and prints from all over the place.” All the items have come from Mukherjee’s own collection of antiques, from the vintage Nawabi chandelier positioned over the cashier’s desk, to the black and white photographs of newly-weds from another era. “Someday you might walk in and find your grandparents in one of the photographs,” he says. Every last detail of the retail space has been supervised by Mukherjee himself to ensure that shopping there is a complete experience in itself. There are comfortable couches, chairs and chaise lounges strewn around the store, including the two trial rooms. Customised consultations will be available at all times. Apart from the clothes—both womenswear and menswear—even the designer’s intricately designed shoes and jewellery will be available on sale. But if you fancy some of the vintage china ware or classic Raja Ravi Varma prints, you’ll have to keep dreaming. “All you can do is drool,” laughs the designer. The designer will next move on to launching his flagship store in Kolkata, which he informs us has a mango tree growing right in the middle and which is due in another two months’ time. “The pressure is on now. The Mumbai store has turned out so beautifully, that I’ll now have to think of a way to surpass it. If my Kolkata clients walk into this place and see that it’s better done, then I’ll be rogered.” |

Rani Mukerji Charms at Sabyasachi Store Launch Posted on Thursday, July 01, 2010 (EST) July 01, 2010, (Sawf News) - Rani Mukerji made a rare public appearance at the inauguration of Sabyasachi Mukherjee's flagship store at Kala Ghoda in South Mumbai Wednesday evening, June 30. Rani, 32, a long time fan of the designer, strolled in wearing an olive green drop waist silk jumpsuit with spaghetti straps, gathered sweetheart neckline and folded cuffs. She accessorized with slim tan leather belt and matching tough sandals. Photo Credit: Sawf News Her waist length lustrous hair, styled in loose waves, framed her face. Pink lips, smoky eyes and French nails rounded her radiant looks. Rani is currently filming for No One Killed Jessica with co-star Vidya Balan. Sabyasachi is the costume designer for the two. Talking about his styling for the film, Rani said, "The look he's given me is far removed from his signature touch." The designer had earlier styled Vidya Balan in Paa. With this UTV film Rani has forayed out of the Yash Raj Banner after a spate of box office failures. Her last film with YRF was Dil Bole Hadippa (2008) with co-star Shahid Kapoor. |

Rani ki manmani When asked to pose in front of Sabyasachi’s bridal collection, Rani Mukerji refused to comply Vickey Lalwani Posted On Saturday, July 03, 2010 at 02:13:35 AM Much has been written about Rani Mukerji’s secret love affair with Aditya Chopra; not with her consent of course, since the actress has categorically wanted to keep the matter strictly under wraps. Obviously, the actress has lashed out at the press often for writing on this matter. And recently, some photographers got the short end of the stick from Rani; her anger was quite uncalled for. On Wednesday evening, at the launch of designer Sabyasachi’s new showroom, everything was running smoothly. Members of the glitterati indulged in tête-à-têtes with each other and Rani stood at various spots to be clicked by the photographers present. According to a source present, Rani was herself posing in front of different backgrounds, while the photographers clicked away, until she realised she was standing in front of Sabyasachi’s prime bridal collection. All of a sudden, she ordered all the photographers to stop clicking. Sabyasachi When the photographers asked her for a reason, she said, “Bridal outfits ko peechhe rakhkar photo nikaloge, toh again the media will do two plus two, jump to conclusions and write unnecessary things about me. Yeh likhenge, woh likhenge, jhanjhat nahin chahiye.” When the photographers tried explaining to her that the bridal collection was indeed making for a beautiful picture, she refused to comply. In fact, she was angry with them for even arguing about this. Come on, Rani! Where’s the need for you to jump to conclusions? There’s more to you than Adi. Your fans love you for who you are. |

Article 13 Jul 2010 The Telegraph - T2 After the 2008 sleeper success Aamir, Aamir, director director Raj Kumar Gupta gets gets into into “tricky terrain” with No One One Killed Killed Jessica… How has the two-day experience of shooting in Calcutta been? Although the real story of Jessica Lal does not have a significant Calcutta connection on the surface, I decided to shoot a small but important portion of the film in the city because I felt that only Calcutta could mirror and complement the poignancy of the situation that Vidya Balan’s character finds herself in. The only time I shot in Calcutta earlier was for portions of Black Friday when I was assisting Anurag Kashyap. After that, I always knew that I would come back to the city to shoot a film of mine. As a city, Calcutta has so much character. Whether it is the heritage houses of north Calcutta, the picturesque trams, the busy cacophonous streets or the Maidan, there is a constant buzz juxtaposed with an ethereal, almost surreal, feel that you will find nowhere else. During these two days, we have shot in quite a few places and I am extremely satisfied with the Calcutta leg of the shoot. How has the whole experience of shooting the film been? Whenever one is working on a film based on real life events, there is always the pressure of staying true to the facts, but making it interesting enough for an audience. It’s a very tricky terrain. Also, the story of Jessica Lal is so heartrending and poignant that it has emotionally drained a lot out of the people involved. It’s not easy filming a story like this because everyone involved is constantly thinking, ‘What if the same thing had happened to me?’ However, at the same time, I would like to say that No One Killed Jessica is not really a biopic, but a thriller based on a real-life incident. The research done for the film must have been immense… yes, we did do a lot of research that involved reading up extensively on the case and meeting up with some of the people involved. Also the verdict came in the middle of the shooting, so there has been a constant buzz about this case, which in turn, has helped the film. What works for No One Killed Jessica is that almost every Indian knows and has keenly followed the case over the last couple of years. How has it been working with Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji? I really don’t need to tell the world how mature, professional and talented both Rani and Vidya are. They each have lots of films behind them while I have just one film behind me. They both brought something special to No One Killed Jessica. Today, when I look back at the film, I can’t think of anyone else in these roles. After the non-starry, smallbudget Aamir, does having two Bollywood stars in your second film put pressure on you? Not at all. Vidya and Rani are superb actors first, Bollywood superstars later. We were never made to feel that we were shooting with big stars. They were both accommodating and adjusting. Looking back, what do you think worked for Aamir? The fact that we had made an honest film. We had no stars, a limited budget and very less publicity, but Aamir reinstated my faith in the fact that a good film will always invariably find its place under the sun. |

Article rank 13 Jul 2010 The Telegraph - T2 PriyankaRoy LAST WEEKEND SAW A SURPRISE VISITOR TO CALCUTTA WHO RODE ON TRAMS AND SOAKED IN THE MAIDAN AIR. FOR VIDYA BALAN, THOUGH, IT WAS LIKE COMING HOME Under the scorching Saturday midday sun, a bespectacled young woman, one bag in hand and the other slung carelessly across a shoulder, walks down a busy New Market bylane. No one gives her a second glance. She looks up at the building looming large in front, squinting against the blazing sun overhead and brushes aside a wisp of hair gone astray from her carefully tied ponytail. Still no one looks at her. It is only when she stops a motorcyclist impromptu, asking for “directions”, that the bylane starts buzzing. “ Arre, yeh toh Vidya Balan ki tarah dikhti hai!” screams the motorcyclist to his friend riding pillion. Looking up at the aforementioned building, the swelling crowd spots a camera. The buzz gets louder, but the crew nonchalantly go about their business. A perfect shot is canned. Posted Image Picture by Sanjoy Chattopadhyaya Vidya on the Maidan greens. Five years after Parineeta, Vidya Balan was in Calcutta last weekend to shoot for No One Killed Jessica, a film based on the Jessica Lal murder case that rocked the country a few years ago. After shooting significant portions of the film at a Ballygunge house on Friday, the action shifted to Dum Dum airport and a tram at Park Circus on Saturday morning. But with her no-makeup, bespectacled look, Vidya — playing a character based on the murdered model’s resilient sister Sabrina — went virtually unnoticed. “We have worked hard in making Vidya look very real in the film. She could be just another 20something woman walking on the streets of Calcutta,” revealed a crew member. The New Market portion over, the action shifted to the sprawling Maidan stretch, along Red Road. The swelter kept Vidya firmly parked in her air-conditioned SUV while the crew hastily set up the cameras. But director Raj Kumar Gupta looked a worried man. “ Jaldi karo. The light is fading,” he bellowed. After an hour-long wait, Vidya emerged from her car and got into a taxi. “We will now shoot Vidya going around the busy Calcutta roads. The cacophony on the roads mirrors the inner turmoil that her character feels,” Gupta tells t2. As the taxi zoomed off with Vidya and the cinematographer, Gupta followed in another. “This is the last leg of the film. Just one more shot needs to be canned,” smiled the crew member as he assembled a group of soccer-playing kids on the Maidan. As the group of 10-12year-olds enthusiastically ran about, many members of the crew eagerly joined in to kick some ball! Half-an-hour later, Vidya and Gupta retur n and immediately walk into the next shot. As Gupta calls out “lights-camera-action”, the kids start playing football as a pensive Vidya, sitting on a concrete bench, looks on. A minute is all it takes for the shot to be canned. Realising that the film is over, the crew exchange high-fives. Vidya enthusiastically joins in. “It’s always a good feeling to wrap up a film. No One Killed Jessica is a special film and shooting the last bit in Calcutta makes it even more special,” smiled Vidya. No One Killed Jessica is slated to release on December 10. Also spotted at the shoot: Aladin director Sujoy Ghosh who had dropped in to discuss “business” with “good friend” Vidya. Vidya reportedly stars in Sujoy’s next in which she is the sole character! If things fall into place, shooting starts in September in Calcutta. |

Rani Mukerji Curvilicious Cute at Peepli Live Music Launch Posted on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 (EST) July 13, 2010, (Sawf News) - Rani Mukerji blended style and comfort in a beige jumpsuit at Peepli Live music launch at Blue Frog in Lower Parel, Mumbai on Tuesday evening, July 13. We don't know if Rani is romantically involved with Aditya Chopra, but we sure know she loves jumpsuits, enough to wear them on two back to back public appearances. She earlier rocked the outfit, which even had a similar color tone, at Sabyasachi Mukherjee's flagship store inauguration on June 30. One reason jumpsuits work well for Rani is because she isn't size zero. We are sure there are others. She accessorized with silver metallic tote, two tone green cross strap heels with wide wraparound ankle straps, and a chunky black strap watch on her left hand. Her shoulder draping hair, styled in loose waves, framed her face. Cinnamon lipstick, bronze eye shadow and thick kohl liner accentuated her gorgeous looks. Rani hasn't been careful in her strides, and we are not being philosophical - her left big toe was bandaged! Rani comes out for Aamir The much talked about music launch of Aamir Khan’s next production saw the star make a rare public appearance Kunal.M.Shah Posted On Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 03:00:55 AM The recent music launch of Peepli Live was buzzing with the crème-de-la-crème of Bollywood but all heads turned when Rani walked through the door. With her freshly crimped hair and a beige dress to compliment her figure, the kohl-eyed Bong-shell had all eyes turn to her in no time. While the launch saw most of the 3 Idiots team members, including Raju Hirani, Sharman Joshi, Ashutosh Gowariker and Prasoon Joshi, Rani was occasionally seen hobnobbing with Karan Johar and Kiran Rao. But most importantly, for the entire 20 minutes that Rani was present at the launch, she spent most of the night chatting with close friend Aamir, who would lend his chivalrous arm to her every now and then and listen patiently to what she was saying. Who says Rani Mukerji is a recluse? Her shocking appearance at the music launch proves otherwise. Though she turned up just before the event got over, it was a pleasant surprise for those who believe that she shies away from making such public appearances. For one, the actress likes to socialise. Plus, she’s fond of music. A source present there said, “Rani came just a few minutes before the event got over. Aamir gave her a low-down on what all happened and was overheard asking her why she was late. Rani replied that she was stuck in the traffic and was apologetic about being late. Rani was seen chilling with Karan Johar also who is extremely close to her and both of them left together from the party.” Calling Rani an extrovert, a source close to the actress said, “Rani has never cut off ties with anybody as reported by the media. She doesn’t attend all events but she is known to make an exception for Aamir because they happen to be very thick.” As for her friendship with Aamir, Rani has always made it a point to be present at each and every event that he organises. Ever since she worked with him in Ghulam, she has been one of Aamir’s closest friends and he too has remained in touch with her over the years. The source added, “Be it Aamir’s Diwali party or his birthday bash, Rani makes sure to be with him if she is in town. She is also among the few trusted friends of Aamir who makes it a point to show his films and his first trials to her for critique. The close friendship between the two has rarely been public though.” Not after this music launch. Rani doesn’t attend all events but she is known to make an exception for Aamir because they happen to be very thick |

All set to go Aroma Sah and Rahul Sabharwal, Hindustan Times New Delhi, July 16, 2010 Designer Tarun Tahiliani says he’s all set to do his own Bridal Exposition and is not taking part in the Delhi Couture Week, as originally planned. Just that permission issues have forced him to shift the venue from luxury tents outside the venue — DLF Emporio — to inside the premises. “I’m hundred per cent doing my own Bridal Exposition during July 22-25 and not participating in the Couture Week. Because of permission issues, I have simply shifted my exposition inside the Emporio,” he told HT City, in light of rumours that he may not hold his own event. Tarun TahilianiThe same was confirmed by Sunil Sethi, President, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), who is organising the Pearl Delhi Couture Week from July 20-25. “Tarun is holding his own exposition and we wish him luck. There is no question of officially including anyone else in the Delhi Couture Week at this stage. Our shows are all planned,” said Sethi. Meanwhile, Bollywood seems to rule again when it comes to lending glamour to the couture week. While actresses Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan are set to grace the front row to cheer for designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Lara Dutta is going to walk the ramp for designer Rina Dhaka. “Rani and Vidya are my friends and I’ve invited them as guests. They are not walking the ramp because actresses’ job is to act and models’ job, to walk the ramp,” says Sabyasachi, who is showing in Delhi after five years. Dhaka is ecstatic about bringing in Lara Dutta as her show-stopper. “Lara walked the ramp for me way back in 1998, too, when she wasn’t even Miss India. Her beauty is awe-inspiring,” she says. Lara says, “I’m excited about walking for Rina. She’s a dear friend and one of the first designers I walked the ramp for.” Designer Rakesh Agarvwal will have Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez walking for him. “I saw her on a magazine cover and thought she looked fab. What I’ve designed for Jacqueline is completely sexy,” he says. While designer Manish Malhotra says he’s not bringing any celeb show-stopper, Sunil Sethi said, “We are determined to not let celebrities take away from the fact that the real stars of the couture week are the clothes.” The Couture Week shall see 12 designers showcasing their collection at the Grand Hotel, while designer Rohit Bal has chosen to do an off-site show at Delhi’s Aman Hotel. |

Baby one more time Soumyadipta Banerjee / DNA Sunday, July 18, 2010 12:42 IST Mumbai: The hushed rumours that had begun when Rani Mukerji was seen hand-in-hand with Karan Johar and Aamir Khan at a recent eventseems to be coming true. Sources say that Karan Johar is in talks with Aamir Khan to cast Rani Mukerji opposite him. You may also want to see Sources also add that the talks are in the initial stages and just the ideas are being tossed about right now. Aamir and Rani were seen in the movie Ghulam which was a big box office success. However, the last film Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005) was a box office failure. “Rani was very eager to work with Karan and she had been discussing about a project for a long time now. But Aamir was very busy with 3 Idiots and hence didn’t have the time to discuss anything. Now, he is free from acting assignments for the time being and hence they can discuss projects,” says a source. Rani Mukherjee had earlier told DNA that she thought that Karan Johar was the most talented director among the“younger crop of filmmakers”, “Working with Karan is a dream because you know that you don’t have to do anything. Karan has got everything chalked out in his mind. You don’t have to bother about whether the film will turn out to be a good film or a bad film. When it’s Karan, the film has to be very, very good,” she had said when her last film Dil Bole Hadippa was releasing. The 32-year-old actor has worked in several Karan Johar films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and others. “Rani is very eager to work with Karan. She thinks that it’s Karan who can breathe life into her career. That is why she is pushing Karan so much to cast her. Karan is not averse to the idea also. Only that, he needs a concrete subject that can do justice to the two actors. More than Rani, the idea of working with Aamir is what is exciting Karan at the moment. Let’s see, if Karan makes an announcement about it,” the source adds. |
