The A to Z of 2009
Instep takes a quick look at the year that was 2009 as we welcome the New Year…

By Amar Ayaz, Amina Baig and Maheen Sabeeh

A for ‘Aik Alif’

‘Aik Alif’ brought Noori back in the spotlight with the great Saeein Zahoor. It remains the best collaboration of the year with Saeein’s deep vocals, Ali Noor on a musical quest and Ali Hamza singing words of hope. At a time when Pakistan is going through constant mayhem, ‘Aik Alif’ sends the right message: Look within. And we all did. Bravo!

B for Bollywood dance classes

Love it or hate it, danceable Bollywood music has the most straitlaced of people secretly bobbing their heads to tunes like ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ and wondering if they could pull those moves better than Shahid and Rani. With Hasan Rizvi of Bodybeat Dance Studio at Shapes, and Joshinder Chaggar’s Bollywood dance workouts, everybody who has had the good sense to join has become marvelously toned while getting their ‘Bebo’ on.

A novel idea

Rani Mukerji to work with filmmaker Deepa Mehta in the screen adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children

SUBHASH K JHA

Last month, Rani Mukerji had a secret, productive and extremely encouraging meeting with author Salman Rushdie and director Deepa Mehta in Toronto. Rushdie and Mehta are coming together for a screen adaptation of the former’s celebrated Booker-winning novel Midnight’s Children. According to reliable sources, Rani met the author and the filmmaker for a good two hours and is now part of the screen adaptation. The buzz is Rushdie took a great fancy to her.
Deepa is evasive about confirming Rani’s presence in Midnight’s Children. She says, “Yes, Salman Rushdie and I met her informally in Toronto, but nothing has been finalised.”
However, reliable sources insist Rani is part of the coveted project which already has Shabana Azmi, Seema Biswas and Nandita Das in its cast.
Hinting at the possibility of working with Rani, Deepa says, “I don’t know about Rani’s current box-office status but I have always wanted to work with her. I saw her work in Hey Ram, Black, Bunty Aur Babli and Veer-Zaara and loved it. She is among the best talent in India today. Whether it is Preity Zinta (Heaven On Earth), Shabana Azmi (Fire) or Seema Biswas (Water), I have always enjoyed working with strong, female actors.”
Rani too is on the lookout for a challenge that will take her beyond the roles she has done in Hindi cinema so far. Interestingly, she has never worked with a female director in her entire career. She came close to working with Mira Nair in The Namesake. She lost the prized role to Tabu because she didn’t want to play Abhishek Bachchan’s mother. Later, Abhishek too opted out of the project.

I'd love to work with Amitabh, Shahrukh: Deepa Mehta

New Delhi, Jan 5 : After having worked with Aamir Khan in '1942: earth', John Abraham in 'Water' and Preity Zinta in 'Heaven on Earth', noted NRI filmmaker Deepa Mehta said she now want to work with Superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan and the debonair Saif Ali Khan.

''I would love to work with Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan. They are all incredible actors,'' Mehta told reporters here on the sidelines of the Pravasi Film Festival being organised at the India Habitat Centre.

The Canada-based Indian filmmaker, who was here in connection with the screening of her film 'Earth' at the Pravasi film festival, said she had the fortune of working with stars like Aamir Khan, John Abraham
and Preity Zinta.

''I loved working with Preity, John and Aamir, all of whom are brilliant actors,'' she said.

On reports that she was planning a film with the charming Rani Mukherjee and Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan, the filmmaker, whose directorial venture 'Water' won a nomination in the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars a couple of years ago, said, ''I have met Rani and Salman. We have discussed a few ideas.

However, nothing has been finalised as yet.''
Lauding the holding of the Pravasi film festival, Mehta said, ''such film festivals are welcome as they help to provide a platform for many a talented filmmaker from the Indian diaspora.'' In reply to a question, Mehta said she looked forward to begin work on 'Komagata Maru', the film based on the Japanese ship hired by Malaysia-based wealthy Sikh Gurdit Singh to take 376 Indians from Hong Kong to Canada in 1914 to challenge its racist laws.

The Indians were not allowed to disembark in Vancouver and forcibly sent back to India where many were shot on arrival in Calcutta, as it was then called.

The film will recount the journey of Indians who wanted a better life in Canada, but were denied entry by the racist government of that time.

''We will be making 'Komagata Maaru' in 2013 with Akshay Kumar in the lead. Since the incident has its 100th anniversary in 2014, the financiers felt it appropriate to release the film in the same year,'' Mehta said.

To be produced jointly by Hamilton-Mehta Productions Inc in association with Akshay's home production Hariom Entertainment, Komagata Maaru would be filmed in Canada and around the world.

Mongrel Media will distribute it in Canada.

Mehta said a major part of the finance for the film came from the Canadian government.

Asked for the reason for her choosing to make films on 'dark' subjects, the filmmaker said,'' it is not right to say that I make films only on dark subjects. I have also made a light entertainer like 'Bollywood Hollywood'.

Actually, I do not like the idea of making a film on subjects which I know much about. Rather, I want to make films about subjects that I have not treaded. That way, I ensure that through the making of the film, I also grow as a filmmaker.''

LIFE AFTER YRF

Looks like alarm bells are ringing in Rani’s mind as she angles for projects outside the Yash Raj banner

MEENA IYER

Trade sources say that Rani Mukerji has been sending feelers to filmmakers outside of Yash Raj Films, her personal relationship with the company notwithstanding. The actress who did her last three films, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and Dil Bole Hadippa with YRF, is now looking to break fresh ground with outside producers.
It is confirmed that Rani will be seen in an important role in UTV Spotboy’s No One Killed Jessica. Vidya Balan will play a role based on Sabrina Lall, Jessica’s sister, while Rani will reportedly essay the role of a journalist who was instrumental in having this sensitive case re-opened. Directed by Rajkumar Gupta, who directed Aamir, the film will go on the floors mid-February.
The reason why Rani apparently greenlighted this project is because she was thrilled with the aspect of doing a thriller. And, No One Killed Jessica, is a fast-paced flick set in the hub of political power, New Delhi.
Sources from the production company are hesitant to talk about the plot, but insiders say that Rani was excited when they told her that this film offers ample scope for the two lead actresses who, in their relentless pursuit for justice, mobilise the entire nation.
Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV says, “When you have actors like Rani and Vidya by your side, the joy of creating characters that can shake the audience and leave an impact is immense.’’

A Person from UTV said that rani signed the film

Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee in No One Killed Jessica Click here to add this article to My Clips

Rani Mukherjee Till yesterday, she was the queen bee of the Box-Office. A few unfortunate Fridays and she was almost out of the rat race. Not just that, she also got slotted as an 'exclusive' YRF heroine. No prizes for guessing that we are referring to the one and original Rani Mukherjee, who now seems all set to be back with a bang.

Even though her last few of releases didn't quite work at the BO, Rani seems ready for a comeback and has signed up for an important role in UTV Spotboy's No One Killed Jessica, which also stars Vidya Balan, and is directed by Rajkumar 'Aamir' Gupta. The film, which has its music composed by the Amit Trivedi, is expected to go on the floors in February. Talking about the film, Vikas Bahl, Chief Creative Officer, UTV Motion Pictures said, "It's our pleasure to announce that Rani along with Vidya has also agreed to be a part of a story we really want to tell. When you have actors like Rani and Vidya by your side, the joy of creating characters that can shake the audience and leave an impact for time to come is immense. No One killed Jessica is one of our very cherished projects and it has scaled up to the level it deserved to, thanks to Rani and Vidya becoming a part of it."

For starters, No One Killed Jessica is a fast paced thriller set in the hub of political power, New Delhi. It is the story of two women and their relentless pursuit of justice that mobilizes an entire nation to prove that in democracy there is no greater power than the power of the people. It'll definitely be interesting to see Rani and Vidya in the same frame that too in a film dealing with such a serious subject.

New Kid On the Block: Siddharth Kher
Buzz up!

It's easy to like 24-year-old Siddharth Kher (not related to Anupam Kher).

One of the four promising debutantes in Teen Patti is a fair, light-eyed, brown-haired boy with a tall and lean frame with oodles of boyish charm. Get to know the model-turned-actor as he tells SBO about himself, how he got the film and his Bollywood aspirations.

The Bombay boy is a student of Holy Family High School in Andheri East and St. Andrews College. He says, "I started modelling soon after college but migrated to New Zealand with my parents. I signed up with an agency there and did some shoots. While I was there, I got a lot of calls from Bombay. So I came back in spite of parents' apprehensions because I wanted to work in Bombay and be an international model. I took part in Grasim's and Gladrags. I did a dozen commercials, two music videos, print campaigns for Pantaloons, Levi's, Tommy Hilfiger, Wrangler, the Seagram's tour and walked the ramp for practically every other designer. I launched Star One and also a perfume for Azarro. I soon realized that becoming an international model was not easy. This was in 2007. I decided that if nothing concrete came up by the end of the year, I would go back to New Zealand."

About bagging Teen Patti, he says, "My Dad read an article in the paper about the casting of the film. So, I tried to reach Ambika Hinduja through some sources but didn't manage. I thought it was a very far-fetched to dream of becoming an actor in Bombay without connections or 'knowing people' but I tried. I even went for an airline interview and they rejected me, which was hard to digest. Strangely, a friend of mine introduced me to Ambika Hinduja and I auditioned and got the role. This has been my weird journey so far."

Co-incidentally, his character's name is Siddharth. "Siddharth is from a middle-class family but he doesn't like his middle-class values and life. He wants a bigger life and wants to get rich quick. He is just friends with Aparna, played by Shraddha Kapoor and is the lead singer of the college band. He then gets involved in the game and loves it because he can be who he wants to be and fulfill his dreams. But he also realizes that all of it comes at a price," says Sid.

Siddharth has signed a three-film contract with Ambika Hinduja's Serendipity Films. "I would love to work with Imtiaz Ali and Anurag Kashyap while Rani and Kajol would be my favourite actresses to work with. I haven't got any concrete offers and I am currently concentrating on promoting Teen Patti but I would love to be part of films that belong to the New Wave of Indian Cinema," signs off the new Kher on the Block.

Meet student-turned-gambler Siddharth Kher in Teen Patti on 26 February 2010.

The industry is full of hypocrisy: Rani Mukerji
Anna M.M. Vetticad

January 30, 2010

Actor Rani MukerjiThat's Rani Mukerji's take on why so few girls from film families join the industry. Rani makes a rare appearance this week on Headlines Today's weekly interview show Star Trek. In an exclusive chat with the channel's Entertainment Editor Anna M.M. Vetticad, Rani discusses the continuing perception - both among the public and within her industry - that she's confining herself to films from the Yash Raj banner.

Snapshots from Star Trek with Rani Mukerji

'Film families don't encourage girls to join films'
'I don't want to work for only Yash Raj'
'Every actor wants to work with Yash Raj'
'I've never left a producer in the lurch'
'People I haven't worked with spread rumours about me'

'I don't make friends with any motive'
'If Karan has a role for me he will cast me'

She also hits out at industry colleagues who spread such rumours about her. But that's not all. Rani goes back in time to her debut and her classmates' and friends' reaction when they saw her first film. They laughed. She also sticks firmly to her conviction that the tide will turn in her favour once again if even a single one of her films is a hit.

Catch Rani Mukerji on Star Trek with Anna M.M. Vetticad on Sunday, January 31, at 7 p.m. on Headlines Today

Onir wants a Bongshell for his next film Afia
By: Subhash K Jha Date: 2010-02-03 Place: Mumbai

Onir's concern for socio-sexual politics continues to grow. He's all set to shoot a film called Afia about the sperm-donation mafia. It's the story of a 40-plus Bengali woman whose biological clock is ticking away and needs to have a baby urgently.

Though he isn't talking about it, Onir is apparently in discussion with Rani Mukerji, Bipasha Basu and Nandita Das for the main part.

Age factor
The director needs a Bengali actress of a certain age and stature. But some of the names he has approached are unwilling to play a 40-year old woman. The interesting thing is that Onir was supposed to make Afia with Kalki Koechlin. But has now dropped her from the project. Protests Onir, "I was making a film called Afia with Kalki. But that was different story. Then I came across interesting facts about sperm donation and I wanted to make a film on that instead."

Onir's research has shown acute irregularities in the procedure of clinical motherhood. "The whole system of donating sperms in our country is murky. Do you know women are legally allowed to have sex with sperm donors if they choose to do so? I found the idea appalling. My film is about a woman who insists on tracking down her sperm donor although there's a secrecy clause binding both parties in this sensitive transaction. "Onir shoots Afia in Kolkata next month.

Research done

The director adds, "I discovered the option that the donor could be the father in law/ brother in law. The very thought is incestuous. Some clinics offer the possibility of actually having sex with the donor, terming it as natural. The husband has the option to be present. My research team and writers first found out facts from the net. We then visited a few sperm banks in Mumbai. But they did not allow us to click pics. But we spoke to people who availed of the facilities."

Role of the dice

Rajkumar Gupta is unable to convince a star to play Jessica Lal, as Vidya and Rani have landed the meaty roles in No One Killed Jessica

SUBHASH K JHA

The original plan of casting a big star in the central role of Jessica Lal, the assassinated model from Delhi, in No One Killed Jessica has fallen through. With Vidya Balan playing Jessica’s sister Sabrina Lal and Rani Mukerji cast as an investigative journalist on the lines of Barkha Dutt, the chances of finding an established female actor to play the relatively smaller part of Jessica has faded. For lack of choice, the director and his producers UTV have decided to cast a complete newcomer as Jessica. Says a source, “Once Rani and Vidya were cast, established actresses who were approached guessed they’d have very little to do especially as the character gets murdered in the early part of the story. Now they’ve no choice but to cast a newcomer.” Director Rajkumar Gupta confirms these developments. “We’re looking at casting a new girl as Jessica. We feel the impact of the crime on the audiences’ mind would be far greater if the actress playing Jessica is an unknown face. We’re looking at a theatre actor for Jessica’s role and for the other smaller roles.” Adds Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV, “Apart from Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan, all the other characters in the film form the supporting cast. They are good actors but not known faces.”

The Saree seduction: Sexy actresses get traditional in songs
February 13th, 2010 - 10:38 pm ICT by sampurn -

February 13, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Bollywood babes have been showing off their well-shaped curves and sexy legs from their cocktail dresses, skirts and tops but it is only sari our desi wear that makes these girls look super sexy and desirable. Every time these ladies step-out in lovely designer saris, heads are bound to turn on their fashion statements.

Glam Doll Kat

Mostly seen in western clothes, when this Brit Babe donned a saree for the very first time, it had to be a Manish Malhotra creation. Glittering in a black saree with red border in the song “Teri Ore’ from movie “Singh is King’ Kat looked hotter than ever before. Kat swaying in a pink saree made many men’s heart beat faster, as never before had Katrina looked so graceful and lovable.

Vivacious Kareena

No one has forgotten Bebo darling getting wet in rains and happily singing “Bhagey re mann’ with sexily draped red floral print saree with balloon sleeved blue blouse on her that made men go weak in their knees. This beautiful saree was Rocky S’s piece of work.

Desi girl Priyanka

Priyanka looked smoking hot in sparkling georgette saree and halter blouse in rocking “Desi girl’ song. Her sans-ornament look went very well with a saree, which was later adopted by many stylish young women. She again donned orange and pink shaded saree for melodious “Jao na’ and Maharashtrian saree in playful “Raat ke Dhaai “songs that made her look totally graceful. Every time this desi girl has slipped into a saree she has redefined sensuality.

Traditional and modern

In contrast to most artisans, Sarah Bai from Kutch, Gujarat, and Baul Das from Bankura district (known for the endearing shape of its terracotta horse), near the famous terracotta temple of Vishnupur, West Bengal, find their traditional pottery still has takers. Painted terracotta ware is a speciality of Sarah's village. “But transporting fragile pottery poses a problem,” she points out.

Apart from traditional craftsmen like these, others are drawn to the versatility and beauty of terracotta. Tapan Saha, a new age artisan who studied painting in Santiniketan creates stunning jewellery with inlay work, in terracotta. “Actors Aparna Sen and Rani Mukherjee are among my customers,” he says proudly.

Organisations such as “Khamir” in Kutch and “Kumbham” in Kerala help in the resurgence of the potter community. “Kumbham” promotes terracotta in architecture and “our cooking utensils are microwave friendly” state the organisers. “Pottery is not designated as “handicrafts” by the Government. The Government also concentrates on that which is mass produced for export and pottery cannot always fall in that category,” according to a member of CCI. “There are many problems when it comes to improving the lot of potters that have to do with their socio-economic conditions.”

The demand for terracotta ware is constant when it is part of ritual, such as the magnificent horses for Lord Ayyanar in the villages of Tamil Nadu, and other votive figures. Utility objects have a future, especially if they are eco-friendly, such as the “daily dumps” for composting kitchen waste. Terracotta jewellery is a trend but who knows how long this will last? Many potters do not want their children to enter their profession. In the urban areas with the construction of high rise buildings, there is hardly any space left for artisans to fire their ware. But committed potters and craft promoters sustain their crusade in carrying forth a tradition that came with the dawn of civilisation. They are not willing to give up this fight in which the stakes are high. After all, it has to do with the Earth itself.

Love With the Wind

Bollywood romance has ferried plenty of gossip and ideal love stories. We have seen couples come and split; on Valentine’s Day today, Anurita Rathore lists some of those that could have lasted

By Anurita Rathore
Posted On Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 04:12:36 AM

♦ Katrina Kaif-Salman Khan

Hers is the face of innocence. His, unfortunately, one of a violent lover. Yet, Salman and Katrina started off as a couple men and women loved to envy. Two very good looking people, very much in love, their recipe was perfect until... . Salman’s ways have been tough and they made life tough for Katrina too. Not that she ever mentioned it, but her silence spoke up. Salman and Shah Rukh’s fight on her birthday in July 2008 was an obvious ugly blotch on their romance. Akshay, then Ranbir, were names that crept up along side hers; Salman too had names - Lara, Claudia and Asin - written along side his. Upfront and straight, none can question Katrina on her relationship status. With Salman, none would dare to. Two stunners, not together, too bad.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
♦ Deepika Padukone- Ranbir Kapoor

She was every guy’s dream and many girls’ envy. Explains the charm that Ranbir has had on girls across. They held hands at public dos; he maintained his ‘I am loyal in my relationships’ stand and Deepika confessed to being sure of him. So what if the Kapoor parents reportedly didn’t like her? That never came in the way for the so-much-in-love couple, until that is, Katrina came by. Growing friendship between Ranbir-Katrina during the making of Rajneeti is speculated as being the reason for the distance and eventual break-up. Now, rumours abound with ‘Deepika found comfort with the suave and sexy Farhan Akhtar’ while filming Karthik Calling Karthik. Two hearts broke, but, many were restored. :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
♦ Priyanka Chopra-Harman Baweja

Some years ago, everyone wanted to know who the successful and lovely Priyanka Chopra was dating. There was a mystery surrounding Harman Baweja. Some termed him Hrithik-like, others felt Bollywood didn’t need another lookalike. Of the three films Harman did, Love Story 2050 and What’s Your Rashee with ladylove Priyanka met sorry fate at the box office and the third, Victory with Amrita Rao, didn’t make him victorious either. Sob sob and their love story drifted towards ill-fate and growing differences. Priyanka stayed reticent, Harman too didn’t open mouth, while people kept up with the guess work. On-off, nobody ever got to know their relationship status, too bad the couple isn’t on all Facebook lists.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
♦ Preity Zinta- Ness Wadia

They were THE society couple found not just at social and film functions, hand in hand for that perfect photo shot, but also holidaying together. Almost everyone found her dimpled smile complementing his. Preity and Ness went on to be co-owners of IPL cricket team Kings XI Punjab, and all this while they were still a couple. Her friendliness, often misconstrued by many, with cricketer Yuvraj Singh isn’t quite the cause for their parting. It’s been common knowledge that Preity and Ness’s mom Maureen didn’t see eye to eye; Maureen was known to have been very terse with her comments about Preity. No one knows the reason for the split, yet everyone has a version to offer. Meanwhile, Preity nursed her broken heart by being away from the country only to be here when work demanded. And yes, Preity-Ness romance may be over but their IPL business is surely on. Strange are the ways of the heart.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
♦ Kareena Kapoor-Shahid Kapur

They were quite the ideal couple, while they were. He seemed besotted by her, albeit non-demonstrative, while she blushed everytime she looked at him. Bollywood gossip didn’t have negatives to feed on this love story. Not for a long time at least. Kareena even turned vegetarian “not just because Shahid is vegetarian but also to keep my weight in check”. The couple parted ways in 2007 and while none washed dirty linen in public, it was believed Kareena walked out on Shahid after his growing proximity with his Kismet Konnection co-star Vidya Balan. And the world thought Kareena switched to Saif Ali Khan too soon. Ah, when things have to go wrong!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
♦ Rani Mukherji- Abhishek Bachchan

At one point, everyone thought Rani Mukherji would be Rani Bachchan one day. Abhishek and she shared great
camaraderie and romance in their films together. They played couple in many a film - Yuva, Hum Tum, Bunty aur Babli, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. People compared them to the Amitabh-Jaya jodi, at least and literally from the look of it, and mummy Jaya was pretty vocal in her affections for the then reigning Bollywood ki rani. Society magazines flashed pictures of Jaya and Rani enjoying laughs at social dos. The Big Connection? Yeah, may be. But beta Abhishek’s world had someone else coming in. Miss World Aishwarya Rai walked in to take the coveted position of Bachchan bahu and Rani’s world crumbled. Later, even her career did.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
♦ Rekha-Amitabh Bachchan

Can’t help but list this love story in the Could-Have-Beens. While love stories come and go, sparks between this couple continued to fly. At least that’s how the world viewed it. So what if they ignored each other at award functions throughout, Rekha never missed a chance to suggest a nameless ‘forever love’ every time she gave interviews. Unfortunately, for her, that he was married to Jaya Bhaduri when they fell in love! Yeh kahaan aa gaye hum... why are we talking of this very old love story now? Well, Amitabh Bachchan never goes out of fashion. And news. Neither does the ‘timeless beauty’ Rekha.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
♦ Raveena Tandon- Akshay Kumar

He’s been the forever casanova of Bollywood. And we haven’t found a replacement. While Akshay has a pretty wife in Twinkle to boast of, his list of girlfriends hasn’t been less envious either. Pooja Batra, Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty, he had some beautiful women to court. But it was Raveena with whom his engagement was announced...
Tu cheez badi hain mast mast he sang for her, a song the nation crooned for her. And suddenly, the dashing and good looking couple of Bollywood split. After a long walk up the hilltop, this came as a shocker. Akshay’s philandering ways was the rumoured cause. Raveena went into depression, later termed it a phase “thankfully over”. Sigh oh sigh, not all love stories turn fairy tales.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
♦ Soha Ali-Siddharth

They’re both the we-keep-to-ourselves kind. She comes from a royal background and he’s been the Telugu filmon ka prince before he landed in Bollywood for Omprakash Mehra’s Rang de Basanti. Soha and Siddharth’s love story bloomed there; however, his earlier divorce apparently didn’t help matters look up at the Pataudi household. They parted, again, none spoke a word. Recently we heard Soha SMSed Siddharth after she found his performance
brilliant in Striker. Now, maybe there’s hope.

NO SISTER ACT

Vidya Balan, who plays S a b r i n a Lall's character in
No One Killed Jessica, was to meet Sabrina, but director Rajkumar Gupta has decided against it. Apparently Gupta is disinclined to let Vidya pick up Sabrina's mannerisms because he wants Vidya to interpret the role in her own way. A source close to the film confirmed this. "Gupta felt that if Vidya met Sabrina, she might be her clone in front of the camera. He didn't want it that way." No One Killed Jessica, is based on model Jessica Lall's murder. Kareena was approached to play the slain model but she declined. Now a newcomer has been pencilled in to do the controversial role. Rani Mukerji is also a part of the film.

Rani shooting for No One Killed Jessica
TNN, 17 February 2010, 12:00am IST

The shooting of Rajkumar Gupta’s film, No One Killed Jessica, has started in Delhi.

The first day of the shooting was on Monday, at a Chattarpur farmhouse, and Rani Mukerji shot a twenty minute sequence. The rest of the actors playing the major characters joined her later. They will also shoot later in the week, at a TV channel’s studio, or construct a set.

The film is based on the murder of Delhi model Jessica Lall, and the title has been inspired by a Times of India headline.
