Real to reel

Bollywood has never wasted any time in claiming a real life incident as a prospective subject for a movie and the Jessica Lal murder case was no exception.

However, the cast has been as flexible as the witnesses in the real life case. Initially, it was reported that actress Kareena Kapoor had been approached to play one of the roles in the movie. But the latest is that actresses Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji might have been roped in by director Rajkumar Gupta, of Aamir fame, to play the pivotal roles in the flick. In fact, the director said that the idea for the film came to him from a Times Of India headline that said No One Killed Jessica.

All smoke, no fire
TNN 18 December 2009,

When personal lives of filmi folk begin to look like scenes out of a Bollywood potboiler, it is time to check the credits. More often than not, it

only turns out to be buzz ek pal....

Who got the cream?
B-town woke up to shock one morning in April 2008, when they heard that one of the steadiest couples in the city, Arbaaz and Malaika Arora Khan, were heading for splitsville.

Rumour mills went into an overdrive. The impending split was attributed to various developments. When news of their divorce spread, some said that it was to promote their Kannada flick Shaadi Ke Side Effects, which was about infidelity and had the couple playing the lead. The couple neither accepted or denied it. While Arbaaz was quoted as saying that it’s his personal life and he “would not like to discuss it in public,” Malaika said, “It is too personal. I would like to keep quiet on this.”

The couple also shot for a Pond’s ad, which said that the skincare product could bring a couple together. At the cream’s launch, when the couple exchanged rings at a mock re-marriage as strategy to promote the brand. Phew!

Thus ended another fuzzy-cum-buzzy saga in Bollywood, with the couple smiling from the sidelines.

Rumours flying high
When Papa Roshan decided to cast a phoren babe opposite Roshan Jr for his home production Kites, a juicy split story emerged from B-town. Though it was hard to believe that Hrithik had a change of heart, with his looks, ‘imminent’ signs of a possible split became apparent.

Stories emerged that the Latino actress was quite friendly with Duggu, who apparently was escorting her everywhere. The two share a passionate kiss in Kites, but Hrithik had originally kissed Barbara on the cheek! She was stunned and asked him if this is how he would kiss his wife in a similar situation. The actor saw his ‘folly’ and kissed her again on the lips. The rest, as they say, is history.

The message was loud and clear – the sultry Latino babe had wreaked havoc in the happily married couple’s life. Suzanne left the Roshan house and moved in with her parents. Her cold body language at Amrita Arora’s wedding was the final straw. We guess it was all a nazron ka dhokha.

Some weeks later, though, the couple was seen holding hands at a public event. The duo later got each other’s names tattooed on their forearms! Ah, did someone say all’s well that ends well?

Wedding-in-waiting

Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra have been ‘about to be married’ for two years now, and the rumours look like they’re nowhere near dying down. But the wedding also, it seems, is nowhere near happening.

On June 18, 2007, the actress and the producer-director were supposed to have gotten engaged at the Chopra house in Mumbai. But like all good stories, there’s an obstacle, apparently, in the path of the lovers – the disapproval of the boy’s family. Adi’s mom Pamela Chopra apparently has a fondness for her ex-bahu Payal, so she’s dead set against her raja beta taking the baraat to Rani’s house. It was also rumoured that Yash Chopra had said he’d disinherit his son if he married Rani.

We’ve heard reports periodically, with variations, about the marriage. Just that it never happens. “They keep linking me with a certain person. And they’ve been proclaiming that I’m getting married for the last three years. Every six months, they decide on a venue and a date. But the date keeps shifting, simply because it’s unsubstantiated. And the media keeps passing it on, like a relay race,” Rani told us in an interview not too long ago. Buzz yahaan mat roko, bhaiya – this Rani doesn’t have her raja yet!

Young and restless

Khalid Mohamed (Bollywood: Behind the Scenes)

18 December 2009

http://www.khaleejtimes.com/weekend/inside...on=weekend&col=

Quite unexpectedly, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, tanked last week. The poor ticket sales were blamed on the weak publicity
by the film’s producers, the Yash-raj banner.

The trade had believed that the producers would, in fact, go the whole nine yards to promote a film that had the successful writer (Jaideep Sahni) and director (Shimit Amin) team of Chak De! India. Plus, it showcased
Bollywood’s hottest property, Ranbir Kapoor.

So, why was Rocket Singh... accorded stepbrotherly treatment by Yashraj? The buzz is that producer Aditya Chopra was mega-confident about the film’s success, even describing the effort as the best product to have emerged from his banner in the last decade. It didn’t need promotion, he felt, and in any case Chopra Jr has always been contemptuous of the press, never ever interacting with them.

The publicity of the banner’s film had been left to a team of Public Relations staff, who are not exactly the model of courtesy. Neither photographs of the film were accessible at the press screening, nor did the staffers have a clue about the names of the gifted supporting actors.

The posters and hoardings of Rocket Singh... were also extremely misleading. They displayed a smiling Ranbir Kapoor breezing past an urban landscape atop a scooter, suggesting a comedy or at least a light-hearted entertainer. The movie was anything but that—it was a slow-paced 16-reeler which was as old-fashioned as it was sanctimonious. Sure the underlying message that honesty is the best policy is commendable but it’s the kind of message that is not only obvious but has also been hammered home especially in the black-and-white movies of the 1950s — particularly by Shree 420, a jewel from Ranbir’s legendary grandfather, Raj Kapoor.

The flopping of Rocket Singh... is more than likely to affect the equity of the Yashraj banner in the market. Of late, their films like Dil Bole Hadippa — a star vehicle for Rani Mukherjee — have fared disappointingly at the ticket windows.
One of the biggest disasters of recent years, Tashan, also came from the production house. Fortuitously, the production house is now venturing into producing television software, en masse, for channels. The TV onslaught of serials, reality and talk shows, is expected to commence from January 1. Good luck.

The trailers of the banner’s next feature film — Pyaar Impossible — are not too impressive, showing Yash Chopra’s younger son, Uday, in a leading role as a nerd who falls head over heels in love with Priyanka Chopra. Uday has played significant roles in the Chopra hits, Dhoom and its sequel, but has not yet established his position as a popular actor. The only roles he appears to be getting are thanks to the family. The film, incidentally, is directed by Jugal Hansraj, yesteryear’s child actor (Masoom) who has been striving to establish himself as a director. Bye bye, acting.

As for Ranbir Kapoor’s status after Rocket Singh..., mercifully, it remains as rock solid. He has affirmed himself as the finest young actor on the scene and if there’s any justice in film awards next year, he should be walking away with the Best Actor trophies for Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, one among the few hits of the year. Also, the word is out that he just may steal the show away from seasoned actors like Nana Patekar, Ajay Devgan and Manoj Bajpai in the upcoming Rajniti, a modern-day adaptation of the epic Mahabharat.

While Ranbir Kapoor wows viewers — his peformance has been lauded in Rocket Singh... even though the film hasn’t been, his break-up with Deepika Padukone may lead to the termination of the chemistry they shared, both on and off the screen. Deepika is not being considered as his heroine any more, though she has stated in print, “We are professional enough to keep our personal differences aside.”

Ask dad, Rishi Kapoor, about his son’s romances, and he immediately counters, “Listen, I have never advised him about which film to accept and which to reject. Similarly, I don’t tell him which girl to go out and not to go out with. It’s his life.”

Yet, it is no secret that both dad Rishi and mum Neetu Singh were apprehensive about Ranbir dating Deepika Padukone steadily. It was reported that Deepika had tattooed Ranbir’s initials on her back, immediately sparking rumours that they intended to marry shortly. That love story has come to an unhappy ending with their split.

On the other hand, life seems to be rocky for Rani Mukherjee, steady girlfriend of producer Aditya Chopra, too. Neither has he married her, contrary to rumours, and neither is she doing well as an actress. Rani is now being seen on TV shows, the refuge of artistes who are out of work. A pity because Rani Mukherjee is one helluva brilliant actress, and could do with a reversal of fortunes, like the Yashraj banner itself.

(The writer has been reviewing Bollywood ever since he was in diapers. He has also scripted three films and directed three including Fiza. Currently, he is working on his next film Rutba)

tube tattle - Replacement therapy

Sara Khan, the popular bahu Sadhna of Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai on Star Plus, has apparently been shown the door on the show, Dance Premiere League (DPL) on Sony. The actor was hosting the show since it started on October 9.
Khan was reportedly throwing tantrums and reporting late for the twice-a-week shoots at the RK Studios in Chembur.

Actor Rani Mukherji, who is the `Queen of DPL', reports for the shoots at 10 am sharp for an episode that starts rolling only close to noon. She hasn't given anyone any grief, but reportedly Khan did.
A source from the sets reveals that she had ego issues with almost everyone around, including the crew members on the show. "Sara often had issues with her dresses and the lines. She want ed the same number of lines as Hussain Kuwajerwala, her co host on the show. As a result, the producers and the channel decid ed to call it a day with her," says the source.

Not just that, Khan had stated that she `opted out' of the show because of health reasons, which wasn't the case.

When asked, Danish Khan of Sony, refused to comment on the matter. Lately, the actress had been reporting late consistently on the sets of her debut show, Bidaai too.

Sources reveal that only after being screamed at by producerdirector, Rajan Shahi, did she mend her ways and start reporting on time.

However, Khan's loss on the Sony show became Mona Singh's gain, who's clearly a favourite with the channel that first worked with her on Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. She eventually hosted several shows for Sony including two seasons of Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, before taking on DPL in its last leg.

Hmm, maybe that's what they call replacement therapy.

Mumbai: The V Shantaram annual film awards will be given away here on Monday where Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and the Malayalam actor Mohanlal are vying for the best actor award.

Legendary actress Sandhya, who was the heroine of V Shantaram's classics including Navrang, Do Ankhen Barah Hath and Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje, will be honoured at the function, Kiran Shantaram said.

The felicitation will commemorate the 50th Anniversary of V Shantaram's classic Navrang. Asha Bhosle, who lent her voice for the film, will also be felicitated at the function, he said.

Incidentally, Kiran Shantaram, now heading V Shantaram Foundation, made his debut as assistant director with Navrang.

Shah Rukh Khan (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi), Saif Ali Khan (Love Aaj Kal), John Abraham (New York), Mohanlal (Bhramaram, Malyalam), Prakash Raj (Kanchivaram, Tamil) and Upendra Limaye (Jogva, Marathi) have been nominated for best actorcategory.

The awards will be presented at a function here on Monday, he said.

Nominations for best actress include Rani Mukerji (Dil Bole Hadippa), Priyanka Chopra (Fashion), Pallavi Joshi (Rita, Marathi), Tamanna (Konchem Istam Konchem Kashtam, Tamil), Mamtha Mohandas (Passenger, Malayalam) and Shreya Reddy (Kanchivaram, Tamil), Shantaram said.

When V Shantaram was making the film Do Ankhen Barah Hath, he met with an accident and became blind for some time. During his blindness he started seeing colours and that's the genesis of Navrang.

This year's awards function proceeds will be given to 'Right To Vision', a division Wockhardt Foundation, who conduct free eye camps in 28 cities all over India, Shantaram said.

Starburst: Anandalok Puraskar

The Bolly shower on the night of December 3 was a real treat for star-struck Calcuttans. Rani Mukerji, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Asin and Irrfan Khan sashayed down the red carpet into a packed Science City auditorium even as Pritam and his band of boys made foot-tapping music. The audience — which comprised a number of Tolly faces — warmed to Rani’s 1,000 watt smile, Neil’s macho yet mellow appeal and Irrfan flaunting his Bengali-ness.

Rural backdrops, reality shows rocked small screen (Flashback 2009)

Soap operas crowded the small screen, but it was 'Balika Vadhu' and 'Bandini' - serials with a rural backdrop - that were the big hits. Reality shows like 'Sach Ka Saamna' and 'Rakhi Ka Swayamvar' also found many takers in 2009.

IANS picks 10 fiction and non-fiction shows that captivated audiences despite cricket matches.

1. 'Rakhi Ka Swayamvar' (NDTV Imagine) - Item girl Rakhi Sawant left the nation shocked when she decided to find a suitable life partner through the reality show. It brought unprecedented TRPs for the channel, but Rakhi failed to sustain her engagement to Toronto-based businessman Elesh Parujanwala, whom she found through the show.

2. 'Balika Vadhu' (Colors) - Set in rural Rajasthan, the family drama changed the face of Indian television in 2008 and continued to rule the charts this year with its gripping script. It deals with grave social issues like child marriage, perils of teen pregnancy and mismatched marriage.

3. 'Sach Ka Saamna' (STAR Plus) - The Indian version of popular American reality show 'The Moment of Truth', 'Sach Ka Saamna' hosted by Rajeev Khandelwal featured contestants who had to answer 21 questions, the authenticity of which was determined by a polygraph machine. Though the government expressed its ire against 'vulgarity' on the show, it hasn't stopped the channel from planning its second season.

4. 'Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo' (Zee TV) - Another top rated rural-based show 'Agle Janam...' revolves around the plight of a poor girl Laali who strives to help her family financially. But she is later sold off to a rich landlord by her parents. The show has proved to be a worthy replacement for the hugely popular soap 'Kasamh Se'.

5. 'Dance Premier League' (Sony)- This big ticket dance show not only brought actress Rani Mukerji to the small screen but also provided a platform to dancing teams from different zones across India. The show is nearing its finale.

6. 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' (STAR Plus)- Speaking volumes about Indian tradition and culture, the show narrates the story of love finding its way into arranged marriages and how two strangers bond and blossom together after entering matrimony. Lead characters Naitik and Akshara have become household names.

7. 'Bigg Boss 3' (Colors) - In its third season, 'Bigg Boss' promised to get bigger and it certainly did by roping in megastar Amitabh Bachchan to host it. The show started with a mix of 12 celebrities, including Rakhi Sawant's mother Jaya, Bhojpuri actor Kamaal Rashid Khan and Vindu Dara Singh. It provided ample drama.

8. 'Bandini' (NDTV Imagine) - Based in a Gujarat village, the Balaji Telefilms production, 'Bandini', is about a young girl Santu who is forced to marry a much older Dharam Raj, played by seasoned actor Ronit Roy. The show traces Santu's trials and tribulations while adjusting with the family and how love surfaces between her and her husband. The show is liked for its simplicity.

9. 'Dance India Dance' (Zee TV) - After the success of its first season this year, the dance show has already entered its second season. It has three popular choreographers, Terrence Lewis, Remo D'Souza and Geeta Kapoor, who train 18 contestants in dance forms like ballet, acrobatics, mid-air dancing, contemporary, Bollywood and hip-hop. Yesteryear superstar Mithun Chakraborty has joined the show as the grand master.

10. 'Bidaai' (STAR Plus) - This serial questions whether life is happier for fairer people. It is the parallel story of two sisters - Sadhna and Ragini and shows how their looks determine the quality of their lives.

Shows like 'Khatron Ke Khiladi 2', 'India's Got Talent', 'Uttaran' and 'Na Aana Iss Des Laado' on Colors, 'Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao' and 'Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa 3' on Sony, 'Aap Ki Kachehri' and 'Perfect Bride' on STAR Plus and 'Pavitra Rishta' on Zee TV also made for good entertainment this year.

RANI-SHAHID TOGETHER AGAIN?

Good morning my blueberry cheese cakes. The weather seems to act funny these days. Nip in the air in the evenings and warmish mornings. I can't get the weather right. Anyway, it's just a matter of few days. Then, I'm off for a vacation with Vijjy aboard his private jet to an island near the Bahamas. But while I'm there, I'm not going to deprive you guys of your daily dose of goss. Look, I'm at it even now.
So, I'm told by my faithful Sher Lock that two colleagues will be shooting together, once again. This time, thankfully, the duration of the shoot is just one afternoon. The two didn't even care to promote their last together, together.

The Miss in question is Rani Mukherji and the Mr is Shahid Kapoor. The two will be shooting today for the finale episode of the former's show, Dance Premier League at Chembur's RK Studios. The actress has already shot one portion of the finale with Irrfan and Yusuf Pathan yesterday. Wonder what'll happen when Rani and Shahid come face to face? Maybe sparks will fly or maybe they'll just behave themselves and no one digs old graves.
What say guys?

Cinema artistes felicitated with V. Shantaram award in Mumbai
From ANI

Mumbai, Dec 22: Various artists and technicians from the Indian film industry were felicitated with the prestigious V. Shantaram award here on Monday.

Actors, directors and technicians from Bollywood and the regional film industries became the recipients of the awards, instituted in the honour of legendary director, V. Shantaram.

Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali, who shot to fame with his film 'Jab We Met' and 'Love Aaj Kal', was awarded for his exemplary work.

"I think it's a huge thing to see V Shantaramji's and my name in the same plaque. So thanks a lot," said Ali.

Rani Mukherjee was also one of the recipients of the award. Rani got the award for her performance in the film 'Dil Bole Hadippa'.

"This feels great because getting an award, and V. Shantaram award, means a lot to me. Because we all know that we are the unfortunate ones who were not born in his era, didn't get an opportunity to work with him. But getting an award in his name, just to have his photograph on the award, and just to have his name, and to get an award... to be the recipient of the award, that means a lot to me," said Rani.

Legendary actress Sandhya, who acted in many of V Shantaram's films, was also felicitated at the awards function.

The V Shantaram awards provide a platform for films from all over the country to compete on the same stage, transcending language and regional barriers.

Rani prays for Yash Chopra

rani_mukherjee81Rani Mukerji is yet to find a film for herself after the disaster of Dil Bole Hadippa. However even this dark cloud seem to be turning out to be one with a bright silver lining as the actress has already picked up two awards for the performance in the film.

And each time she can’t stop thanking Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra enough for having the faith in her. “Yash Raj has been so kind. And now Yash uncle is completing fifty years in the industry I want to congratulate him and hope he keeps making movies.

I pray he and Yash Raj keeps making movies for 50000 more years!” says Rani. Well she does need to thank the company considering it has been keeping her company alive for last couple of years despite she not doing any other film. Out of the last six movies that she has been seen, five have been YRF projects!

2009 SPL: B'wood dazzlers of the year

Here's a list of beauties who left us breathless even off-screen

By Suranjana Nandi Dec 23, 2009

Looking good is an art. And looking good EVERY single time is a 'tough' form of art. In Bollywood, the superhot babes may sizzle on-screen but dampen every little flame off-screen. A very few women are capable of maintaining their glam quotient always. Here's our list of the Best Dressed Bolly Women of 2009. Take a look!

Posted Image

APPLAUSE!! APPLAUSE!! Rani Mukerji, Sridevi, Sushmita Sen, Asin and Vidya Balan

What appealed: Now here's why these stars have inspired us all tremendously this year - they have proved that with the correct amount of dedication and hard work nothing is impossible. Asin wore some disastrous clothes to every Ghajini event last year. But in 2009, we LIKED what we saw! Sridevi finally gave up her Indian bahu image. Not that we did not like the extremely beautiful Sri in sarees, but the trim legs we saw in her knee length ensembles, we liked better. Sush after being called everything from inconsistent to fat and bloated proved that she after all was the first one from India to rule the Universe! WOW! Rani Mukerji. WOW! She stayed underground last year. When she emerged, we fell in love with the girl all over again. And lastly, Vidya Balan. Now that's what we call 'happy' realisation. She realised what was best for her. And we were happy!

A slice of history

Legendary actress Sandhya, who acted in classics like Navrang, Do Aankhen Bara Hath and Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje was honoured at the annual V Shantaram awards. The felicitation commemorated the 50th anniversary of V Shantaram’s 1959 classic Navrang, a film about a poet who struggles to find a balance between the real world and the imaginary. Rani Mukerji is seen sharing a warm moment with Sandhya, who made a rare public appearance after several years.

2009 SPL: Most 'underrated' films of the year

Flicks that deserved much more

By Anand Vaishnav Dec 27, 2009

Some films work better when watched again on DVD. This year too had its share of flawed but watchable films that underperformed at the box-office but definitely deserve another look. Here's our pick. Take a look!

Dil Bole Hadippa:

Posted Image

Rani Mukerji's comeback attempt suffered from an illogical script that tried to pack in too many commercial ingredients. But it deserves a dekko for Rani's sincere performance and commendable makeover to stay in the game.

Vidya to play feisty Sabrina in movie on Jessica
Prashant Singh
New Delhi, December 27, 2009

Vidya Balan is set to experience a dash of reality. The actress is all set to play Sabrina Lall's character in director Rajkumar Gupta's next film, No One Killed Jessica. The UTV production is based on model Jessica Lall's murder.

"Vidya has been finalised because she fits the role perfectly. But I don't want to talk much about the casting as it leads to speculation. Right now, I can only confirm Vidya's presence but without going into the details," Gupta said.

Sabrina, on her part, is confident that Vidya will do a great job. In fact, she has already met Gupta to discuss the film and "found him to be a nice guy". Also, Sabrina is quite assured about the right interpretation of Jessica's case.

"Vidya is a beautiful girl and I have faith in the makers. People are generally worried about how Hindi films will portray real incidents but I am fine. Gupta and me discussed the film and Jessica's life for several days," Sabrina said.

Gupta will start shooting next February.

The Aamir director feels after finalising Vidya, it will be easier for him to cast others. "I will announce the other actors soon. We're working on it," he said.

In the meantime, the Ishqiya girl is getting ready for her first "biographical role". Reportedly, she wanted to play Sabrina the minute she heard about the role and takes it as a challenge.

She also plans to meet Sabrina shortly.

Jessica's sister said she is yet to get a call from the Paa actress, though.

Since Jessica's murder, Sabrina had fought to get her killers punished.

Gupta's film is "not completely based on Jessica's case", she said.

Vidya apart, No One Killed Jessica has been making a lot of news over its star cast. Initially, Kareena was approached to play the slain model but she reportedly turned down the role, stating that she "couldn't connect with the character". She has reportedly said she "can't do a bit part in an offbeat flick just to prove that she can act". A few days ago, Rani Mukerji's name started doing the rounds for Gupta's film. It was suggested that Rani will play a fiery journalist. Sources said UTV was negotiating with her on her fees.

Gupta made the critically acclaimed Aamir last year. He has been working on his next film for a long time. He said his movie was not about just Jessica's murder. "It is not a documentary, it is fiction," he added.

"I was struck by the headline of a newspaper, No One Killed Jessica after all the accused in the Jessica murder case were acquitted by a court judgement," he said.

Bachchan's was the 'paa' of all makeovers in 2009
PTISunday, December 27, 2009 14:40 IST Email

New Delhi: Talk of Bollywood makeovers in the year gone by and Amitabh Bachchan's Paa look beat everyone hands down.

Though Bachchan had little competition from 'sardars' Saif Ali Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, the Big B's act was appreciated by one and almost all.

Bachchan plays Auro, an intelligent, 13-year-old boy with an extremely rare genetic defect, Progeria, that causes accelerated ageing and thus physically, he looks five times older.

Christien Tinsley of Hollywood films like Nutty Professor-II and Memoirs Of A Geisha fame was roped in to make to create the Auro looks which required hours of makeup.

Progeria patients have no hair, and so the veins are prominent on their heads. The head grows much bigger than the torso and they have no eyebrows or eye lashes.

According to Bachchan, eight specially-designed clay prosthetics were stuck on his face. He could eat, drink and talk only when the pieces were displaced.

"Five hours to put it all on, two hours to take it off and six hours to work - at times more if we are behind schedule. Tough! But then whoever said film making was a luxury. Then for a sunrise shot you start getting ready from the previous night at about 11pm, sit through the entire night to be ready by 4-5am and then go on to work," the 67-year-old Big B wrote on his blog.

Bachchan also played a genie's role in Eros International's Aladdin, also starring Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Fernandes.

The year also saw Saif and Ranbir don the sardar look.

Saif's maiden production Love Aaj Kal opposite Deepika Padukone, however, ran into rough weather initially, the 'chhote nawab' apologised to Sikhs for a few sequences in the film that the community objected to. Ranbir also wears a turban in Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year.

Bollywood beauties too had their share of makeovers, with Rani Mukherjee taking the lead as the 'sardar' in Dil Bole Haddipa. The actress disguised herself as a Sikh boy to play the role of a cricket enthusiast opposite Shahid Kapoor, but the film failed to impress the audience.

Brazilian model Giselli Monteiro surprised with her convincing turn as a traditional Punjabi girl in Imtiaz Ali's Love Aaj Kal.

Actress Priyanka Chopra took the challenge of playing 12 characters corresponding to each zodiac sign in Ashutosh Gowarikar's What's Your Rashee?. Katrina Kaif too chucked her cute-girl image to play a 'rock-chick' role in multi-starrer Blue.

Earlier, Chandni Chowk to China, a mega-budget film produced by Warner Brothers and Rohan Sippy, saw Deepika with raised eyebrows and poker-straight fringed hair.

According to stylist Mallika Bhat, special effort was needed to give Deepika the Chinese look as she had a dusky complexion and big eyes.
