| Welcome to Pokemon Adventures! You are currently viewing the forum as a guest. If you're thinking of joining, I feel the need to note that this is a discussion forum, and not some kind of online Pokemon game (as awesome as that would be). We get tons of members getting this confused, and we certainly wouldn't want to waste your time if this place isn't what you were looking for. You might also find that the activity level is rather low around here. This is mostly due to lack of new members that stick around. I'm sure if we had a few more, all the many members would eventually come out of hiding. Why not sign up and stay for a while. Who knows? You may be surprised. Click here to join! |

Time for Postgame!

Since this seems to be active again, I figured it would be a good idea to go through here and clean up some of the info stickies here. What I found, was most of them were out of date. So, I'm just going to type up something new. First off, it should be noted that a Role Play (RP) is a more involved type of forum game. The basic rules of which involve telling the story of the character you sign up as from the character's point of view, and usually making the story up as you go based on the specific RP's plot. To clarify, this is not a game like the actual Pokemon games you could find on various Nintendo systems. You will be making forum posts to tell what your character is currently doing. Now that the basics are done, I should explain how the RP works. First, you'll need to sign up before you can do anything. In the Profile sub-forum, you will find a Registration Form for you to fill out. Copy it, and go post a new topic in the Profile sub-forum with your character's name in the title. Paste the form, and start filling it out. Once you're done with this simple step, you'll be able to start RPing! From here, you have a few options. I recommend checking out the PokeGear sub-forum for some info about some of the functions in this RP, and checking out the News Reports sticky on this forum to see if anything is happening in the main plot that you should know about. I am no longer going to require you to follow the main plot if you don't want to, but that is the main intent of this RP. Either way, it's up to you. You can also make your main RPing post on this forum. To do that, just make a new topic (the name should include your characters name, and the topic description should list your current location). From here, you'll want to type out your introductory post. This could be about your characters origins, and should introduce yourself in some way. You should also attempt to actually start doing something (such as starting your journey). It's up to you what you do, but these are some usual suggestions. And you're on your way! Now, I should probably answer a few questions I feel will commonly be asked (or have been asked several times): So, what does an RPG post look like? It depends. Different people will RP differently than others. Here are some examples. Scripting: Not the best choice, as it isn't very interesting. Andy: Hey, where do you get Pokeballs at? James: You can buy them at the Pokemart. Andy: Ok! [goes to Pokemart and buys Pokeballs] Andy: Sweet! Paragraph Form: A semi-hard way to do it. "Hey, where do you get Pokeballs at?" I asked. "You can buy them at the Pokemart," James replied. "Ok!" With that, I went to the Pokemart to buy Pokeballs. "Sweet!" I yelled when I got them. There are many other ways to make a post, but it's up to you how you do it. Say I'm in Kanto, but I want to go to Hoenn. How do I do that? Anytime you want to go somewhere else, you can either walk/Surf there, or you can take the boat from any port town to another for free. You'll have to spend at least a day on there (real time) before you land in port. I made up a new Pokemon/Attack/Ability/Item/etc.! How do I introduce it? Anything you make up, must be put somewhere, that way, anyone can use it, and you can remember it. New things related to Pokemon (this includes attacks and abilities) will go in the Pokedex post in the PokeGear. If there is anything else, we'll find a place for it. Note that you can't just make up random things that are overpowered. If you do, we will reject them. Make sure that if something has a very good effect, he has to have an equal or worse aftereffect. Do I have to follow the plot? I'm not going to require you to, but that is the idea. You won't have to follow the whole thing, but there will be some portions of the plot that you shouldn't be able to avoid. I'm not going into details about this, but I'll tell you what affects what when the time comes. How do you get money? Actually, money isn't something we keep track of. It would get really complicated if we tried. Instead, everyone has whatever amount of money they need their character to have at any given time. Essentially, this means you have an infinite amount of money. Try to be reasonable in your spending though. There's no way your character will be poor at one moment, and rich the next. How do HM's work? Everyone gets an TM Card for their PokeGear. The TM Card emits a beam to Pokemon that allow them to use the HM without needing to know the attack. This is helpful to not overfill your Pokemon's move set. You must input HM chips to use each HM. Can I catch legendaries? As of now, no. For plot reasons, you can only see them in the wild. No catching them allowed as of yet. Be patient. Someone else wants the legendary I want. Who gets it? Technically, there is more than one of each kind of legendary (well, in the RPG anyway). When the time comes that you can catch them, you will have to wait for certain events to happen where you can catch them. These will happen often, but make sure you are in the right place. Legendaries will appear in different places at different times. Be ready. Do I get anything for getting all of the badges? That's up to you. The main plot of this RP doesn't require badges to progress. Don't let this stop you from collecting them if you want. If you get all of the badges in one region, you can then enter the Elite 4 challenge in that region. Where am I suppose to go? I don't know what to do. You can basically go wherever you want. If you need ideas, just simply try going to collect badges, or maybe winning contests, or maybe just train and catch Pokemon. It's up to you. Make up your own personal plot. How do PokeGear cards and chips work? Most PokeGear cards will already come with your PokeGear as is. Each card will have a different effect, or open up new info to you. Any new info will show up in the PokeGear forums. You can also check what cards and chips are available there. PokeGear chips will be inserted into certain cards (for instance, the TM card). Chips tend to need to be bought or found in certain places. Each chip will alter a PokeGear card in some way (in the case of the TM card, each chip will allow you to use a different HM or way of teaching Pokemon attacks). PokeGear cards will sometimes upgrade to offer more features. Once you have a card, you do not need to buy the upgraded form, your cards will automatically upgrade. You may keep a list of the PokeGear cards and chips you have in your profile so you can keep track. They count as items after all. Is there any place where I could talk to people in other regions or in different locations without me having to travel there? You could use the Phone PokeGear card to talk to people in your posts, but that is only if you have met them before. In this case, they may respond to your topic (you may want to PM them to tell them that you are calling them). I want to form a traveling group with someone else. How do I do that? Well, first off, it only makes sense if you are both in the same location. All you have to do is just start posting in someone else's topic to form a group with them. If at any point you split up for an extended period, or at a far distance, you'll need to go back to your main RPing topic until you're near each other, and decide to group up again (or with someone else even). Take note, that you should be posting in your main RPing topic only if you are alone, or the leader of a group (meaning someone joined you). You can't be in two places at once doing two different things, now can you? Can I control other characters, even just a tiny bit? This is generally a practice that is frowned upon by a majority of the RPing community, so I would recommend you not do it. If the group you are in decides to allow this slightly, that is fine, but the general guidelines should be drawn by the members of the group before you even consider controlling someone else's character. If you really need to control a character, feel free to make up your own character (for instance a random person that happens to be there, your character's best friend/rival, etc.). What is "godmodding"? Godmodding is when you make it so your character can't lose. For instance, there is almost no possible way you could have every single attack miss you, and all of yours be critical hits. Another example includes your character getting from place to place at an abnormally fast rate without a good reason. Godmodding is just plain boring to read, and could also be considered cheating. Your character can win a lot, but you can't win at everything. You get more experience from losing anyway. I still don't understand... If none of the bits of info above helped you, you can post your questions in this topic. I'm someone will be able to answer them. Edited by gameguy888, Jan 29 2009, 02:30 AM.

Godmodding usually involves a person trying to "Win" a roleplay. They make their characters invincible, un-attackable, and all powerful. They can't lose, and their attacks never miss. Yeah. |

*Facepalm* A Role play is like a fanfic, only more interactive. You can put your character in there, and make it up as you go along. All the threads are on this board. |

That's basically up for you to determine. It makes little sense to get somewhere instantaneously without a very good reason. If you want to get somewhere quickly, your character could be running there. Still, making it an eventless trip is rather dull. Try to find a good balance I guess. If you really don't want to get somewhere quickly, just take your time. |

i just read a bit here and notice something with the term godmodding here. why has it been given a different meaning here? i always learned that what you describe here is called 'Powerplaying'. godmodding is taking control over someone else its character, which i hate very much. |
![]() own RP forum for general RPing and other fun stuff. | ![]() that way, you can see when i play something or not. would still recommend using Steam instead, it works WAY better. | |
